What a year, what a year. While everyone else includes DVDs in their best and worst lists, I solely focus on films that hit theaters. While compiling my lists, I couldn't believe how hard it was to pick ten films that I felt were worth even mentioning as "the best". While I barely succeeded, the worst list was much easier, which was pretty disappointing from my standpoint. That means this was a lousy year for horror and that the majority of horror films released were bad. Looking forward to 2009, I can't say I expect anything different next year, but one can only hope... beyond the break you can check out my list of the best horror films of 2008. Don't forget you can chime in with your own lists and thoughts below, or write your own reviews in our MoviePit.
"The creature feature is loaded with blood, guts, gore, the perfect anti-hero and a hilariously fun plot, which is played straight until the very end.. Wilkins delivers a simple, yet effective ‘80s creature feature that’s not only scary, but also a great time." Click here for the full review.
When this film got delayed again and again I started to think that there was something wrong. Typically when a film is shelved there's a reason. When I finally got a chance to see McLean's follow-up to WOLF CREEK I was blown away. I guess I can understand why the film wasn't given a major release, especially after the other giant croc pic, but it sucks that ROGUE took the fall. The film features a high level of suspense, beautiful camerawork and a giant croc that delivers exactly what it promises - total destruction. This movie is a gem that I will watch over and over again.
"REPO! is a special treat, a film that should have never been, the bastard child of a studio, something that is so distinct that you can barely begin to compare it to anything else. If you’re a fan of musicals, I GUARANTEE that this will become a cult classic in your collection, for everyone else this is a unique film that – whether it’s good or bad - will give you a new theatrical experience. And that’s something special in this day and age." Click here for the full review.
"Liongate’s TMMT is the first BOOK OF BLOOD to depart from the station in a long time and it’s refreshing to see that the film carries that bleak, yet romantic touch of Clive Barker all over it. MEAT TRAIN is guaranteed to make you squirm, scream and beg for more." Click here for the full review.
I have never had such a hard time writing a review in my life. I had seen [REC] almost exactly a year before I saw the remake from Sony Screen Gems. To my surprise QUARANTINE was nearly the exact same film. When I went to write my review, it literally felt like I was rewriting my review for [REC] and originally gave up. You might as well just read my review for the Spanish original. "[REC] has it all and is probably one of the best Spanish horror films in recent memory... I give it the B-D stamp of approval and smile at the fact that something extraordinary has finally come out of Filmax."
"While the film is sure to disappoint most horror fans, filmmaking connoisseurs will find solace in a piece of art that is left open to various interpretations. VINYAN is true to Welz’s vision and exactly what he promised to deliver, the only failure would be that it’s not for the majority – but isn’t that what makes a movie special?" Click here for the full review.
"CLOVERFIELD is one of those films you wish you could see for the very first time again because the impact will just never be the same on second viewing. I treasured the experience of getting to see this in the theater and it will forever leave a mark on me." Click here for the full review.
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is truly a masterpiece of filmmaking that is not only beautiful, but also grim and surreal. While most people (incorrectly) find this to be a coming-of-age love story between a boy and a vampire girl, the deeper meaning is what makes this such a grizzly hardcore adaptation. When the truth of the "girl" is uncovered, that's when the deep-seeded meaning shows itself... leaving you shaken and disturbed.
"MARTYRS is this year's INSIDE, both films are legendary in their own right... By the end of the film MARTYRS becomes immensely uncomfortable, and making it through the final 30 minutes is a tough task. The only negative thing about Laugier's film is that once you see it, you'll never be able to see it for the first time ever again..." Click here for the full review.
What a deal, what a deal! A whopping six films in one DVD collection that features four films that easily deserve to be in theaters, one that's just OK and one that should be burned and never seen again. But if you need a reason to pick this up, just check out CHRISTMAS TALE, from director Paco Plaza, co-director of [REC]. It's an incredible '80s throwback with fun characters and an '80s charm that makes it almost feel like it was actually made 20 years ago.
Honorable Mentions:
There were a few other films I really enjoyed this year, including the Spanish time travel thriller Timecrimes and the French sci-fi horror flick Eden Log (if you can sit back, relax and enjoy a slow burn). Another film I can't wait for everyone to see is Deadgirl, which I caught at the Toronto International Film Festival. Speaking of Film Festivals, everyone should check out the micorbudget Baghead, which I caught at Sundance last January. It's on DVD now from Sony Home Entertainment and is a close spoof of FRIDAY THE 13TH. It was nice to see so many independent films coming through in the end. Lastly, I have to give props to Lloyd Kaufman for giving is the distasteful Poultrygeist, a film that features some of the most disgusting images every to hit my TV (including a penis tip on the end of a mop). The one film I really wanted to include on my list but couldn't was Dance of the Dead. My list is reserved for theatrical releases or films I have seen in a theater, unfortunately DANCE went direct-to-DVD. The '80s zombie homage has infinite replay value and loads of gore, I will be revisiting it regularly in the coming years.
Cloverfield DESERVES to be on this list! The Strangers, as predictable as it was, did not deserve to be on the worst list though... it was a nice hard R movie. Entertaining, despite not being very original.
Thanks Jmac! Cloverfield was a great one time view. People like Sarcastos sit here and bash and it feels like they just are here to start trouble. If he likes Strangers so much, he should go write his own user review and tells us why - I'd love to see what his thoughts are on Cloverfield. I don't know why people didn't liek ROGUE, I thought it was pretty great for a film that played in like 2 theaters.
Oh, one other thing. It was HARD to find ten films that I thought were even worth putting in the top 10 that played IN THEATERS. If I included DVD releases it would have been much easier. Also note that last year I already used up [REC] and INSIDE.
good list (even though i haven't been lucky enough to see martyrs or midnight meat train or a few others) im glad to see the ruins on the list i thought that movie was great and i agree with cloverfield as well i dont understand why people bash it so much, i however also, even though yes it was predictable, enjoyed the strangers very much i thought it had a great atmosphere
Agreed, Mr. D...Cloverfield is definitely worth it the first time. The Ruins is also a very original, with so great shots. Despite other's feelings towards the list, I am sure it was hard to put together a list of the 10 best horror movies that actually had theatrical releases. Putting that aside, the list serves well. Good Job.
As long as let the right one in made this list then the list is for the most part correct i like seeing midnight meat train and cloverfield make it too
Wooo! I agree with you on Repo!, Ruins, Midnight Meat Train, Cloverfield, Quarantine, and 6 Films To Keep You Awake, but Repo! would be my number 1 choice (duh) because it completely changed my idea of a movie-going experience. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the other films on the list... yet!
of what i've seen:
splinter- creepy, but effective.
Midnight meat train- loved this, even the cheesy CGI.
Let the right one in- my heart melted. it really did. such a movie experience i have not had in a while. Even the orphanage and pan's labyrinth, while awesome, the experience wasn't as heart wrenched as this.
i'm really glad to see Rogue on here.. probably the most solid list i've seen yet with cloverfield and the ruins on here.. loved let the right one in and dying to see martyrs.. only one i don't agree with is quarantine.. awesome list!
The Ruins & Quarantine sucked.
QUARANTINE IS A SHOT FOR SHOT REMAKE OF [REC]. HOW IS IT THE 5TH BEST HORROR FILM OF THE YEAR!?!
And another thing, The Strangers was one of the best Horror films of the year. It was suspenseful, well produced & well performed. "It lacked suspense." = Bullshit.
Glad you put Cloverfield so high on your list. That was probably one of the craziest and scariest movies I've seen in the theater, because you never knew what was gonna happen and it felt so real. Not to mention the fact that I saw it on opening night with pretty much everyone from my town, and the experience was so fun.
Decent list but Quarantine was god awful. I could wait to get the hell out of the theatre. What a fucking waste of my time. It was like some tied the camera to a rope and swung it around their head while that chick from Dexter screamed none stop. What a disgrace to the handheld trend.
I have no interest in seeing Cloverfeild. Looks dumb. The Strangers, to me was not even that good. It was a movie that made you think "what if" but it wasn't all that great.
What I don't understand is how a lot of people will whine that no one makes movies like Halloween anymore, and when someone does, they whine that it wasn't original enough. That just goes to show that 75% of horror fans don't know what the fuck they want, and deserve whatever they get.
Big Bad Wolf just nailed it .....i just finished the 6 films to keep you awake and found them to be excellent ...i'm still waiting for another film to punch me in the gut the way "Inside" did maybe "Martyrs" will be the one .
For all of you who have not seen Cloverfield, skip this it contains SPOILERS.
Cloverfield? What the Hell is wrong with people? Cloverfield was one of the most disappointing films of the year. I will agree that it had some cool gory effects and those nasty little parasites were cool. That doesn't excuse the dopiet plot of the year. One jackass films his even dumber friend running around NY to save some girl that just broke his heart. The topper to this tripe: the ending where the camera guy gets munched. How did he not see some 20 story monster sneak up on him? A blind person would have taken shelter, and that's no joke. LAME!
Just because J.J. Abrams has his name on something, it is not required viewing.
The rest of the list isn't too bad. There are some films that I will definitely check out and hopefully enjoy.
There's a reason MMT got shuffled around; it's a wretched pile of shit. The kill sequences relied on a large abundance of fake and hokey CGI, the story went nowhere, and they throw in a very, very lame, left-field ending.
this is my favorite list out of them all! i love almost every movie on here. i just can't wait to see MARTYRS. PLEASE let them release it BEFORE the sure-to-be-watered down American remake comes out!!
Thanks for the insight on some of these films. There are a couple I really want to see now. The Ruins would not have made my list. I thought it was ok, but certainly not great to be in a top 10. The Strangers would be a top 5. BIG BAD WOLF did nail it. I like the Halloween comparison. That is exactly what I thought.
Black water > Rogue
My top 5 this year.... Inside, Rec, Let The Right One In, Cloverfield & The Cottage (loved this lil movie)
I didn't see Cthulhu, Martyrs, Eden Lake, Vinyan & Crimetimes....
It is funny how I read so many different Cloverfield Rules, Cloverfield sucks...Ruins blew, Ruins was original. Rogue was a piece of shit, Rogue was the best! People, everyone is going to have their own opinions. Just because someone liked a movie that you hated doesn't make them an idiot.
Great list. I'm glad to see Quarintine and Cloverfield made the list. Still haven't seen Repo or Let the right one in, I'll just wait for DVD release. but overall it was a good year for Horror. hopefully next years better.
i disagree with the people that loved MMT. The reason being that i was completely annoyed by it's betrayel of a real setting then completely going off the scales and the kills being so unbelieveable and unrealistic that the contrast killed the enjoyment. I prefer a movie to pick a side, rules that the world follows or unrealistic and anything goes, and stick to it.
I've seen Rogue, Quarantine, and The Ruins. I thought that all of them were really good. Rogue wasn't as great as the other two but was suspensful. The other two were just really great. I can't say anything else cause those were probably the only good 2008 movies I've seen. I think about 17. Not counting Untraceable. I want to see MMT and Cloverfield but figured I'll wait till they are cheaper at a vdeo store.
The Happening was a good movie. But oh well, you've been hating it since its release. I wouldn't even call it a horror movie anyway but *shrug* I agree with the rest of both your lists.
If they are both shot for shot remakes how can one suck and the other be awesome. THat's my logic I loved both. MY OPINION. I realized I used caps too.
I wasn't sure if you were talking to me or Mr.disgusting
Plus [Rec] was made in 2007 and won't be released in the U.S till 2009 if its ever released.
It's now 2009. Whoopdefricken doo. Hopefully the movies will be better. Please My Bloody Valentine.
Loved 'Midnight Meat Train'! Anything from Clive 'Hellraiser' Barker is going to scare you shitless! 'The Ruins', is very good also, it literally gets under your skin, plants living off and devouring those tourists, very well acted and how unique!
Props for including "Cloverfield" it really is a great film. Those 6 films to keep you awake are also really good "A Christmas Tale" could have been a lot of peoples favorite movie if it hit theaters.
Finally, someone with a half decent list.
I haven't seen quite a few on those list, but Quarrentine deserves to be there especially if you haven't seen Rec (rec is better but quarrentine is a very good movie), and cloverfield. two of my pics.
Kid Bosco, I do agree that Rec is better than QT, but for the most part the movies are identical, so it's kinda weird to me how you can say a movie sucked that's more or less the same movie in a different languag....weird.
I love everything on this list EXCEPT The Ruins, i hated that movie, didn't even finish it
Love to see MMT, QT, and Cloverfeild on this list.
Strangers was a great movie IMO, but thats just my opinion
Personally I found cloverfield to be a cheat, really did slusho have any impact? Jj's claims that Lost, heroes and cloverfield all exist in the same universe and are intertwined never played out did it(except for an episode of heroes where the characters are drinking slusho.). None of the viral marketing really was an issue in the film at all, jj said he wanted america to have an iconic monster that ranked up along with Godzilla, no dice there either. A few fleeting glimpises of a power rangers reject "monster" doesn't cut it. If you like a giant monster movie with very little actual giant monster check out zokar the invader or beleave it or not; asylums superior flick Monster, never thought I would use asylum and superior in the same sentence.
The Ruins didn't really impress me either, though it's not often someone ripps of off a 80's Doctor Who villian for big budget film,Krinoids anyone? Much better monster plant flicks were Blood Beach and Day of the Triffids, heck even Please don't eat my mother and both little shop of horrors were better.
how can quarantine suck while (rec) rocked? simple people with their simple minds. its all about the actors. its also about the director. one script, two different directors. even with a shot for shot remake, the direction is going to be different.
and also, didn't you like the signal? worst movie this year by far. and you would have to be a moron to claim the direction in quarrentine and acting was bad....it wasn't as good as recs, but not bad at all.
Mr. Disgusting, I have no choice but to disagree with some of your choices on the list, but I know that only carries weight in the sense that it tells you where our tastes disagree. And while I DO have a choice about whether or not to COMMENT on that disagreement, I'm choosing to comment.
My vehement disagreement comes in CLOVERFIELD, MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, THE RUINS and QUARANTINE.
First up, I felt QUARANTINE was a shame. It was a shame in the way it made me embarassed to be an American. Comparing it to REC, which is to me an amazing horror experience filled with strong performances and gut-wrenching moment after gut-wrenching moment ... there is NO comparison. From the opening moments, you can see the difference in the approach the Spanish filmmakers took versus the American version. I'm not even comparing the versions themselves, despite what it might sound like - I'm saying that the things that made REC good all vanish in QUARANTINE and to me that's what makes QUARANTINE a far-inferior film. Look at the way it portrays the firemen, first off - in REC, they're tough guys working tough ours doing a tough job. They're resolved and professional, even though they're clearly not all business. The American version, by contrast, portrays the firemen as idiots and louts - they're loud, boorish and constantly making sexual innuendo jokes that have no place in the movie - and really bring down the intelligence of the proceedings. "Hey, I'm in the shower - look at my penis!" That's the level of intellect on display in REC. Add to that the way certain scenes go - the scene where the plastic tarp is put on over the building and the policeman starts to panic, for instance. In the Spanish version, we get a tense moment where body-language and tone communicate much more than words. In the American version, we've got characters engaging in the typically-fake "movie panic" of yelling "SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" at eachother, not to mention some gross racial stereotypes that offended me as a viewer. Finally, REC knew when to use blood and gore effectively. QUARANTINE, on the other hand, is yet another American horror movie that mistakes juvenile gross-outs with terror. "Look, I smashed a rat, and beat a dog to death - isn't that scary?" No, that's just dumb. And it has no place in the movie.
MIDIGHT MEAT TRAIN I disagree with you because I felt like that movie went to Hell in the fastest time I've ever seen a movie go to Hell. What begins as an intriguing character study about a man seeing into himself how far he'll go to fulfill his artistic obsessions (a typically intelligent Barker theme), the story (and of course the movie that follows that story) bends reality to such an awkward left-angle that any sense of involvement in the proceedings goes out the window, with a sudden shift in tone that leaps into the movie being instead of an intelligent thriller a story of Highlander-style immortals, interdimensional beings, magical mutations and comic-book superpowers, and the film follows along right into Hell with Matrix-style slow-motion action scenes like something out of a RESIDENT EVIL movie. Maybe the silly story could have been salvaged by a more talented approach to the subject matter that might have put it into th league of CANDYMN or the only two worthwhile HELLRAISER films (1 and 2). Who knows?
CLOVERFIELD was a nausea-inducing flick that J.J.Abrahms (in typical fashion for him) looted of characterizaiton and replaced with snark and "cleverness" that becomes less clever because so many characters are talking exactly like eachother instead of like real people. It's something he does in all his work, and he gets away with it on tv because he's putting his stories into a fictional world of fantastical elements of spies and mysterious islands. In CLOVERFIELD, though, this lack of talent is laid bare because there's an attempt at "cinema verite" going on that shows how phony his work really proves to be when examined.
THE RUINS missed the central point of the novel - bad things happen to bad people and sometimes there's no way out. By bunking out on the ending like they did, the rest of the flick is rendered completely inert as the incredible tension of trying to make a few drops of water and some raisins last between four people gives way to loud screams of panic, and what's worse is the movie didn't even have the nerve to make the plant as intelligent and powerful (voice-mimicry throughout, the smell of apple pie) as the book, toning down the superpowers of the plant. Boo!
The rest of your picks were right on!
Correction in prior article: "Hey, look at my penis!" is the displayed intelligence in QUARANTINE. Basically, anywhere I say the movie is horribly juvenile and stupid, it's QUARANTINE I'm talking about there.

Spymunk's Burrow
I havent seen Vinyan but the other 4 films in your top 5 are dead on. I think Let The Right One In is probably in my top 3 favourite films this year...Its a film everyone should see.
I agree though theatrical horror this year sucked fucking hard.
Great list!!! I agree with everything you listed that I have seen (which is about 80% of it) now the rest I want to see more than ever!
Baghead was a riot!
Nobody was championing any book. What I was criticizing was that the people who bought the rights to that book and made a movie out of that book were the same kind of creatively-bankrupt Hollywood executives who panic at even the slightest bit of whimsy or creativity - like a plant with superpowers. I despise the way Hollywood executives are interested in fantastical stories - like a plant with superpowers - enough to buy them and try to get the money they can from fans of them ... but when it comes down to it, they'd sooner crap blood than let a plant have the ability to mimic voices or make artificial odors.
So I finally signed up primarily to give you kudos on the Rogue love. Wonderful stuff, poor thing got completely fucked over by the pure unfiltered shit that was Primeval. Ah well, what can you do?
I do disagree with the Midnight Meat Train nomination however. Another example of a movie getting completely hosed by the company housing it, but I was underwhelmed by it all. Not a bad film, just not what I'd call one of the best of 08.
good list, though i still haven't seen a few of the films on here (martyrs, repo, vinyan). i would've taken midnight meat train off and put eden lake in it's place though.
I think it's a solid list for what you had to work with. I was pleasently surprised with Rougue.
I agree with your choice of Cloverfield, but was really dissapointed with it. I felt like it could've been an awesome roller coaster ride if they hadn't ruined pure chaos by adding a plot about finding a girlfriend.
The Ruins was good, but wasn't as claustrophobic as it should've been.
I think Rogue has been underated in the past ,so am happy to see it made this list..I loved it.
Am really reallly looking forward to seeing Martyrs...if it's anything like "Inside",count me in..
This is a nice list, most movies now in theaters suck but there r those few decent movies, I learned not to b as judgemental and I will like more of the movies now.
Just finished up Cloverfield and.... It was awesome. Definitely my fave of 2008 so far.
1. Cloverfield.... 9/10 (freaked me out!)
2. QUARANTINE 9/10 (really good. On the same level as [Rec]
3. the ruins 8/10 (Farily original and creepy)
4. Untraceable 8/10 (Film that sparked my interest in horror)
5. Saw 5 8/10 (What can I saw I loved the first two, and this was so much better than 3,4)
6. Splinter 8/10 (surprising)
7. Rogue 7/10 (interesting but could have been a little less cheery at end)
8. Prom Night 6/10 (average teen slasher flick)
9. Breathing Room 6/10(not amazing but bearable)
10. Joy Ride 2 6/10 (I loved the first, this is just gorier. But it's all right)
Have worst list next.
Yes the worst list...
10. The Eye (inferior to Asian counterpart but bearable)
9. One Missed Call 6/10 (remake hell anyone?)
8. The Morgue 6/10 ( I liked it but it was just so bad.)
7. The Lodge 5/10 (No comment)
6. Pathology 5/10 (thought it would be cool...NOT)
5. All The Boys Love Mandy Lane 5/10 (somewhat cool but no...)
4. The Happening 4/10 (Nothing really happened)
3. Rest Stop 2 4/10 (How did this get produced?)
2. Shutter 3/10 (like having a 90 minute bowl removement)
1. Fear House 2/10 (awesome concept but delivered terribly)
THeir you have it.
I thought Cloverfield was alright. But i found a lot of it to be rediculous and the characters annoyed the hell out of me.
And i found the Ruins to be sort of meh.
Cloverfield? Really? No, no. Really. Be serious. C'mon. Dude, the only interesting parts were totally derivative of Aliens and, other than those 3mins, it was a gigantic mess! And hey, it's not a horror film, it's a love story against the backdrop of a monster movie. Correction: a boring, pussy-wiped, love story.
And speaking of love stories, I feel like you missed the boat on "Let the right one in". Yeah, the end is good, but mostly it's just moody and boring and, frankly, too much tail and not enough dog.
REC was superior to Quarantine in every way, I just wish it hadn't had the end ruined for me by the commercials for Quarantine.
Props to Spymunk for his awesome in-depth analysis, and subsequent tearing of a new one, of the remarkably talentless J.J. Abrams.
REPO!: THE GENETIC OPERA, THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN and TRICK r' TREAT (which was "finally" shown theatrically during ScreamFest Los Angeles) were my 2008 picks that will be collected onto DVD (when available)!
Im surprised Frontier didnt make it. though I have no idea what Cloverfield wld be like, I keep subconciously veering away from it, usually the kiss of death for any film I eventually do force myself to see. But Martyrs... He picked well!
Awsome, i loved rouge...very good...saw it twice in theatres and have watched it on dvd....
Great movie and im looking forward to watching repo and yes quarantine is cool....hmmm "[REC]" is kinda better but thats 2007....
I agree that most of those should make the list but how about Baby Blues, Trailer Park of Terror, Doomsday, Zombie Strippers, Machine Girl, Eden Lake and Joy Ride 2 on a B list. If you can find Baby Blues watch it for a hell of a movie.
The best of 2008, (I agree with darkamor) were Eden Lake, Trick N Treat, Parasomnia (what a dark movie really loved it, both was shown in Screamfest LA), Let the right one in. I liked Cloverfield, 100 Feet, Splinter. I think Midnight Meat Train could be better, the tale is awesome.
I think that Cloverfield deserves its spot in the top-10!That film made my heart race in a way Ive never felt before, you really get yourself into the minds of the people in the movie, and there is some scary shit goin' on. But I am wondering about Let the right one in though - maybe its my own fault, that I read the book first, and then saw the movie... Its really cool that a swedish movie made it to the top-10, swedish horrormovies are usually more of a laughing matter, and its cool that you liked it - even though it didnt make my dick hard. (Im swedish, I send no hate to swedish ppl, but we do suck at making good horror films)[Rec]was awesome, I didnt sleep much that night, just might be that I have a hatch to the addict at my house- God I love having a dog to protect me, and films doesnt seem to have that effect on me anymore, cuz I see so many horror movies - gj on that one!
CLoverfield and quarntine? What? Those were just over hyped hollywood'ized money makers. Decent to watch one time but I would hardly consider saying was some of the best of a year.
But then again I dont expect much from Mr D. Ive seen him bash uwe boll on the main page and then suck his cock when he got to do a interview with him, acts like a obnoxious kid scared to look at anyone at the indiana HH shows, and posts stupid stuff like the big news break on seven 2 and david fincher basically said the same thing he always says, and thats he isnt to interested......woopie fucking doo.
Pathetic list for the most part with a couple note worthy titles in there.
Glad to see you include "Dance of the Dead" on the list of honorable mentions. I had the pleasure of seeing it @ The Dead of Summer film fest last year and I thought it was fantastic...
you say it was tough to pick ten good films and you put the Strangers in the Ten worst...i usually rate your reviews but that was dumb..the last line in that movie made it, and it had that 80s schlocker feel to it I miss so bad. What about Frontier(s) by the way. Good to see Let the Right one in here though, should be number one, and should never be remade.
REC was awesome. Just watched midnight meat train now and was not in the same league! But pretty enjoyable. Cloverfield rocked as well, bit of a random top ten to me tho. Think i missed a trick on Let The Right One In. To be honest i thought it was rubbish
I want to be very honest and tell you what i feel deep down my guts....
I go to a theater called CINEMA DU PARC and they show all cult films ,experimental and independent import , so a few years ago i went to see a little french film called "IRREVERSIBLE" ...WOW !!
I knew that time that cinema has entered a shift that was like the title irreversible and movies will never be the same .....and now "MARTYRS" ...WOW !!!!!
This is a movies in a class apart the others , because its art and the level of intensity has no equal, its a step
beyond , its light years ahead of everything done to date in this univers , point blank ...final stop !
I want to expess that i feel we are entering a dimension never really explored to date in cinema in the sens that film like MARTYRS or IRREVERSIBLE are more art films and well directed actors and actresses with very big tallent and they are pushed to the limits of acting .
The shift i was talking about is in the step forward direction , daring to
go where no one dares to go and its deep deep down the hole ....not to forget that when you experience viewing a movie of that kind it leaves a deep imprint in you psyche and its no joke !!! Movies like this will stay with you for ever !!!!!
BE WARNED ITS VERY RAW AND SOME VIEWER MAY STAY WITH SEQUELS IN THE MIND !!!!
