Lionsgate announced today that they will now release The Haunting in Connecticut (trailer) in theaters on March 27th, a big move from its original June 19th date. Word on the street is that this is a pretty solid horror flick that stars Virginia Madsen of Candyman fame. Gold Circle films is already working on a sequel. After a family is forced to relocate for their son's health, they begin experiencing supernatural behavior in their new home, which turns out to be a former mortuary.

Honestly, it looks generic. Family moves into house...house has a shady past...a family member starts acting weird and trying to kill. You could easily think I'm talking about The Amityville Horror just from that description.

I don't know what it is, but I will go see any movie that involves a family moving into a haunted house. I watched the Discovery Channel doc on this story and it gave me a tiny scare. Hollywood hasn't given us a good ghost movie since like fucking POLTERGEIST. I'm holding out hope for this one.

This movie looks pretty creepy. Sure, the plot is basically a rip-off of The Amityville Horror and other similar ghost movies, but it still looks scary and interesting. At least now it won't have to compete with big summer blockbusters. Smart move on Lionsgate's part.

Ehh I have a neutral stance on this one so far. Regardless moving the release date to March should be a better business move. Plus it comes out two weeks after Last House on the Left so they won't be competing with each other very much.

The movie itself looks cool enough, but the fact a sequel is already in the works? BLECH! The idea this is based on a true story is what's really alluring, so without that, the sequel is already pointless. Oh well, the trailer already looks scarier than the Amityville Horror so I'll definitely be there.

I didn't know anything about this just because the title reminded me of "An American Haunting" which sucked, so I never clicked on any of the headlines, but I just watched the trailer and I'm pretty sure I'll go see it now. Looks pretty creepy I think.

Considering it's based off a true story, it's easy to dismiss the whole "family moves into a house with a dark past" thing. If you watched the other "A Haunting" episodes(which this one was the pilot episode), ALL the people move into houses with dark pasts. The difference is usually defined by how the ghosts haunt, how the people react, whether it's a ghost or a demon that's actually doing the haunting, the actual dark past that brought about the haunting and the means of studying the activity through outside researchers. I remember one part about the original broadcast where one of the researchers explored the basement staircase at night(which he wasn't suposed to do, seeing they all devised a plan to keep together and face everything as a group), and he sees the demon man in the basement, who hurls a giant fireball at him, scaring him so bad he left right after that and refused to return.

word here in L.A. is that it's one of the highest testing films in Lionsgate history...

Hopefully it's awesome enough to make up for the >>>>PG-13<<<< RATING. Yup, as much as this looked like a solid R-horror film, the MPAA gave it a PG-13 rating for some intense sequences of terror and disturbing images... Doesn't that suck?

Looks very promising, grew up with Amityville as the haunted house movie.I live in new england, do not remeber this story. What is the time frame?

For the MPAA rating, I am not sure if it is rated PG-13 or R, but either way I think if could pass for both, meaning it looks like either a strong PG-13 or a soft R. Anyway, I found out about this movie months ago and have been excited to see it since, especially two particular scene where the son wakes up with writing written into his body and the when the shower curtain wraps around the chick. As far as generic, I do agree that yes it has a plot that has been done before, but like somebody already mentioned, people do have different experiences with the supernatural, if you believe in it or not. That being said, the trailer made the film look awesome so all I can hope is that it won't turn into The Unborn where the best scenes were already shown in the trailer.

I remember hearing about the true story of this and reading some articles about it online and seeing the Discovery Channel documentary (oddly enough by the same name as this movie) and the entire story was pretty creepy and I thought it would be a good movie. I hope they do a good job with it. It looks good and with the move to March it should make more money that way.
