Actually, FokisMoney and Zombie Hell, most people hate remakes because: 1.) Very rarely do you get a remake that is more groundbreaking and an impact the original was(Carpenter's The Thing comes to mind as one the did great). 2.) Point you two made stands, the orginals remain and are easy to find. So what if you can't relate to, say, the 80s cause you were too young to remember it? I can't relate to the 70s, but I love a lot of movies from then! 3.) And this is probably the most IMPORTANT ONE, cause it's leading to the death of original horror: With ALL the effort, more so NOW, spent on remakes that AREN'T needed(and I mean, don't contribute much to the horror genre), movie companies can ACTUALLY spend it on creating NEW horror icons for THIS generation. Remake all you like, Freddy's still an icon from the 80s, as is Jason. Michael Myers will always be more of a late 70s-80s horror figure as well. You can't say, "Oh, now they are OUR horror icons!". It doesn't work that way cause they originally impacted horror culture before now. Jigsaw is a modern horror icon. The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers is a modern horror icon. Frankly, there is a SHORTAGE of modern horror icons that are at the caliber of Freddy and Jason. THAT is a prime reason why focus should turn away from remakes and lock in on creating more original horror movies so, 20 years from now, when kids now are older, they can look back and be proud of the horror icons of THEIR generation, not of second-hand icons from before their generation.
