First announced here on BD November 6th was the newly revived Howling franchise, which will kick off with The Howling Reborn. Today it was officially confirmed that Joe Nimziki will direct the pic from his own screenplay for indie producers Joel Kastelberg and Moonstone Entertainment's Etchie Strohl. The latest installment starts shooting in February for a Halloween release. Unfortunately, plot details are still under wraps. The original "Howling," directed by Joe Dante from a script by John Sayles, was released in 1981 and spawned six sequels. Dee Wallace-Stone starred as a news anchor stalked by a serial killer who turns out to be a werewolf.

The HOWLING sequels were all pretty awful, but I'm still excited to see someone trying to revive the franchise. With this and THE WOLFMAN, werewolves may actually escape the TWILIGHT craze with some of their diginity restored and intact.

When I first heard about this I was kind of excited, but some sites like Arrow in the Head have said that it looks to be a remake of the first film instead of a sequel. If that's true then I don't know if I'm looking forward to this.

Hmm... Dunno how I feel about this... Pretty sick of all the remakes lately. I already want to kill Michael Bay. I don't want to have to add another unoriginal, IP stealer to that list. My fingers ARE crossed, though. The Howling is one of my classic favorites. Here's hoping it will be done justice.

I don't know how I feel about this. I like the original, and I didn't know there were six sequels. I only knew of four, shows how much I followed this movie franchise lol. Oh well. It should be interesting to see how this pans out and I will keep an eye on this movie.

Hopefully they don't take everything from all the sequels and call it a remake... Look at how limited other horror remakes are.

All the Howling sequels were awful and this coud do with a reboot. The original is great so they have a good story to work with.

The sequels were fucking aweful. The original was a classic but there was just something about it I didn't really like. Never mind. This could be a suitable follow up and erase all those crappy sequels.

The Howling was and is AWESOME!!! The best werewolf movie of all time! As far as part 2,3,4,5,and 6, They all stunk! I remember when I was a kid lol, it gave me nightmares! I just hope they don't mess this one up!

I look at this as great news. Like previously stated werewolves are coming out now and now just from Twilight which makes me sick! Its a remake, sure and alot of people will complain but pretty much every type of movie has been made. Any movie that comes out now will suck because "its been done before". So doing the Howling remake is a great thing because it WILL stay true to the werewolf background and not be a silly Twilight Jacob Black jabroni.

I thought "The Howling" was decent. Never cared for the sequels. But I thought the best werewolf movie of the 80"s and one of the best ever was "American Werewolf in London". I thought the Howling copied alot from that, but when it's done the right way and that good everybody steals a little wether your a musician or director.

I love The Howling. Its one of my very favorite werewolf movies. My biggest fear with a "reborn" idea is that the movie will be full of crappy CG effects. Nothing ruins a good film faster...i.e. I am legend. The second I saw the CG "creatures" I was pulled out of the film. If your gonna do it, do it right. I want to BELIEVE what Im seeing.

P.S. I forgot to add.....The only thing I could nit-pick on The Howling was the ending. A "Shih-Tzu" werecaster was a mistake. lol
