Update: MGM contacted to us to let us know that the film will go into production in early 2010, so the film just couldn't have been done in time for the November release. For those of you who would rather jump off a bridge than see a remake of Poltergeist, it appears MGM might have put things on hold. The studio pulled the film from its planned November 24, 2010 release and bumped it to an undetermined 2011. Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) was set to go behind the camera (BD; August 28, 2008). The film tells the story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White penned the current draft.
so is this really just them NOT doing a remake of it? have they even begun shooting or started pre-production? i was never a huge POLTERGEIST fan anyways so i have no vested interested in a remake or not.
when the heck will mgm release poughkeepsie tapes with the success of paranormal activity it looks like both poughkeepsie tapes and mandy lane should be coming since both of them are also long delayed titles
This is one of the worst things that I've ever heard. The first Poltergeist film has been near-and-dear to my heart since I was a TODDLER, dammit! I hope this remake gets derailed forever.
fceurich: Poughkeepsie Tapes was released in 2007....I remember seeing the trailer for it in the theater before The Mist. I just checked IMDB and sure enough, it says released in 2007.
ooohhhh....didn't realize we were talking about DVD release, sorry!
