Director in Talks For 'Poltergeist' Remake

With all of the fowl stories circulating on the web as of late, we've been working extra hard in confirming our news before posting. Although, even when we confirm a story, sometimes the parties involved still deny it (like Natalie Portman in SUSPIRIA). I don't blame 'em, because if the deal is yet to be signed, who is to say that the news hitting the web might not quirk the deal? This afternoon we learned that Vadim Perelman is in heavy talks to helm the remake of POLTERGEIST for MGM, which was (finally) officially announced here this month. Obviously, until a press release hits the web confirming the story, nothing is official. Personally, sticking the director of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG behind the lens of a horror film (an important one at that), sounds like the worst idea ever to me...

Why mess with such an awesome film? "Poltergeist" is one of the only horror films that still creeps the crap out of me. New ideas are a dead concept in Hollywood. *grumble*

This does not NEED to be remade. Go fuck yourself, Hollywood!

This is gonna be the one that finally kills the remake craze.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BOYCOTT THIS SHIT! How about we start a petition that we can send to the team behind the remake and all the signatures represent the people who won't want to see it? it's a start anyway...

"With all of the fowl stories circulating on the web as of late..." I thought the only fowl news as of late had to do with Troma's Poultrygeist. However, there has been a fair amount of foul news that had been grossly exaggerated or simply false.

Vadim Perelman? Really? I mean sure he has no experience in the genre, but House of Sand and Fog was such an awesome debut for him. He's got real potential.

Brilliant film the original, hope the remake is done well!!

Most remakes are pure shut; truer words have never been spoken. But, why not just avoid seeing these movies if they cause you so much dismay?

Fortunately, and Famously, this is one of those "cursed" films and we can hope the production will be so plagued they drop it.

KandyMan

the original film has that 'lightning in a bottle' magic about it and therefore this remake is pointless as theres nothing you can take from the original make better in a remake. the hitcher remake flopped hard because of the very same reasons. KM

Petitions never work. All of these remakes make money despite all of the bitching we fans do. If you want to stop the remakes, just don't see them. Don't keep throwing your money at them.

they need shot! y remake a GOOD classic horror/supernatural movie? who would star in it anyway everyone dies from them movies anyway bc of the poltergeist curse. there is noo way that this tupid ass remake will live up to the original even if they did get craig t nelson to reprise his role as stephen. anyone know what ever happened to that kid who played robbie in one an two?? i am soo signing it. never even seen house osf sand and fog so cant bitch bout the directer dude.

DEAR STUDIO EXECS...Don't remake this. We horror fans will not go see it. You are just going to embarrass yourselves. You aren't going to prove anyone wrong. And the HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG Director is NOT an inspired choice and it will NOT "elevate" this. You screwed up big time.

The original was writen by Steven Spielberg and directed by Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Tobe Hooper. The studio execs think they can improve upon this film do they? Have they ever heard the saying "you've got some big shoes to fill".

It sounds like the wrong director for such a high profile project. The producers on a Poltergeist movie wouldn't take the film out of the directors hands and subvert his vision, would they? Oh yeah, they would.

Let's face it folks, the new trnd is remakes. There is no such thing as curses so I doubt that is an issue. I agree with COLDBLOOD that these are enormous shoes to fill, I wish them the best of luck with this project anyway. Poltergeist is a classic and I have my reservations about it being remade, however, why complain about it? We all know we will go see it, especially the haters. How else will you be able to smear it?

coldblood took the words right out of my mouth! "you've got some big shoes to fill". don't try and beat the best, admit defeat and just make a shit straight to DVD sequel!

If it keeps horror in the theaters I'll take a remake over nothing at all. If it looks bad I'll skip it. Loved the original...but I have a feeling one of htese remakes is going to be really good. In the future...maybe not this one...:)
