BD Review: 'Sorority Row' is Well Played

Now in theaters everywhere is Summit's Sorority Row, a 90's throwback movie that BC really enjoyed. "I know this won’t be a favorite among anyone, because it’s so by the numbers, but dammit, I miss this sort of “nothing special” slasher movie. So many of them nowadays are fixed on gimmicks, or 3D, or trying to outdo one of the other films - it’s nice to see one that’s simply a traditional slasher movie. It even has a nonsensical sequel setup, another tradition that’s been somewhat phased out. Well played." Click the title for the full review or write your own review and tell all of BD what YOU thought.

When five sorority girls inadvertently cause the murder of one of their sisters in a prank gone wrong, they agree to keep the matter to themselves and never speak of it again, so they can get on with their lives. This proves easier said than done, when after graduation a mysterious killer goes after the five of them and anyone who knows their secret...

Awesome sounds cool, ya me too i miss those old school slasher films, i am seeing this today & i hope it turns out as good as u say it is & as good as it looks on the trailers, plus the clips of some of the killings looks so sweet and slasher gory, i didn't read full review but i just hope the movie is fast paced & doesn't take too long to actually get to the killings.

Thats the problem with modern slashers today, they move too fast.

Do we really need throw-backs to the 90's? I kind of remember the 90's sucking for horror films.

I just saw Jennifers Body at TIFF & it was actually fantastic, it had really great cinematography, the acting was actually pretty great as well for this type of flick & the script was...written by an oscar winner, so ye it was pretty good to haha.& even though there weren't nearly enough, the kills were well staged & played the true 90's way(im an original dr.fucking seuss eh?). I wanna see Sorority Row but I feel like Ive seen the better(&hotter, holy fuck the megan fox amanda seyfried kiss was hot & long & they used tounge!!lol) chick horror flick already so ill prob just wait till dvd...DAYBREAKERS is what im seeing tomorrow...im kind of super fucking stoked for that.

So what you are saying GIDAN was Scream sucked? Scream resurrected the slasher genre which was dead for years. Its this decade where alot of the horror movies suck

So how many of these "the movie's not good but I still like it" reviews are you going to write? Why not just have someone with an actual opinion of the movie write the reviews?

Wow, Mr.Disgusting. How many times did you throw Rob Zombie under the bus in your review? I guess you're trying to please the retarded flash mob that frequents this site?

Archipelagos

That reviewer actually admitted to liking the Black Christmas remake. Oh dear.

narcissusween, Mr Disgusting DID NOT write this review. Ignorant much?!

BD if you miss the good old obiviously leaving room for a sequel, how could you not love the ending of Halloween 2? By the way I liked the film and could care less about all of the hate being thrown around, so don't bother. Looking forward to Sorority Row for some old fashioned fun, but have much more anticipation about Jennifer's Body.

milkman...Jennifers Body is the tits. & I agree I also kinda dug Halloween 2. Bloody Disgusting has a "hate on" for that flick & for Rob Zombie.

Archipelagos and anyone else who is as equally ignorant - there is no person in the world who is going to like/dislike the exact same movies as another person. So what if I liked Black Xmas? I also like The Exorcist, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, etc. So now does my opinion matter again? If you're going to judge someone based on their opinion of a single film, then you shouldn't bother reading reviews, because you're never going to find someone you agree with 100% of the time, except yourself. There are going to be people who hated Black Xmas that love this movie, and people who loved Black Xmas that hate this one. There's no rhyme or reason to any of it.

JGrayland

Milkman - key word was nonsensical.... don't want to spoil anything, but think like, Friday the 13th 6 or Halloween Resurrection.

Archipelagos

No need to be quite so defensive JGrayland, I wasn't exactly attacking you. I don't expect to have the same perspective as everyone, or the same tastes, that's completely unreasonable. You liked Black Christmas, I despised it, end of. Have a bit more confidence in your own tastes as your reasons for liking something will be completely as valid as mine for disliking it. Peace.

I just hope the same people who called The Final Destination "teeny bopper" aren't the same group of people who'll be going to see Jennifer's Body. If so, then that makes them look like idiots. I will not be seeing Jennifer's Body, not my type of flick at all and I really don't see why anyone over the age of sixteen would even consider watching it. Sorority Row may be very basic, but that's fine by me. As far as Black Christmas(2006), how can you HATE it? BC, like every other slasher out there, won't win any awards, but it was a pretty good slasher. The slower pace was really refreshing. Most modern slashers move too fast at the expense of losing character developement. I just wish slashers would go back to like they were in the 80's, when there was tension and suspense between each death. When you actually cared for the characters, when the deaths actually looked realistic and weren't made with CGI. I guess we'll never see those days again.

And I NEVER called Black Christmas '06 GOOD, I said it was good as far as being a SLASHER.

The huge fucking Jennifer's body Ad that covers the screen is fucking annoying even if it is a chick unzipping her top

Just got back from 'Sorority Row'. Its pretty good. Not great. The kills are fairly creative and the ending is a bit unexpected, though I found myself rooting for the killer seeing as the main characters were so unlikable. The worst part of the experience was having to sit through the trailer for the new Twilight movie before 'Sorority Row' started. I can't believe they got Michael Sheen in that piece of crap.

@ americangods: agree 100%! pretty cool, but not great. rolled my eyes at the twilight preview

The Black Christmas remake makes Zombieween 1 & 2 look like Scarface.

Seems odd that this site, along with others, ripped Halloween 2 to shreds because it broke the rules and established its own identity, while this film is praised for being mediocre & by-the-numbers. To each his own, I guess. Better to play it safe.

Pike
2:08am, September 12, 2009

OK, I'm sorry I overstated the case. I recall that you guys did cut H2 some slack, and I hope many people do get a kick out of this flick. Just seems that somebody who does not play by the rules takes a beating from horror fans, and people who do play it safe can count on a warmer welcome. But, as I say, to each his own.

JGrayland
4:39am, September 12, 2009

Pike, to each his own' is correct, but we didn't slam H2 for breaking rules... we 'slammed' it (i don't think saying its an improvement over the original and giving it 3 out of 5 is really a slam but whatever) because it had all of these ideas and did a lousy job executing them. i actually LIKED all the batshit stuff (horse, nightmares, etc), but felt that it never really paid off in the film. So if Sorority Row is a cheap but satisfying Big Mac, H2 is a really nice piece of steak that wasn't cooked properly.

tHE MOVIE WAS AWESOME AND THE KILLS WERE VERY CREATIVE
