Really enjoyable slasher film!

Gory kills, perfect bitches, and a tight script.

Lookinf forward for a sequel!

i made it thru 47 minutes of this crap then realized there were RERUNS of 'two and a half men' on tv..............'nuff said.

this movie i really liked. ill definitely put it in my dvd collection when the movie comes to dvd. its nothing special or original (which the director stated in an interview, so get over it people). here are positives and negatives of the movie
positives- very well done character development, setting in general, cool unique weapon used by the killer, most of the death scenes are unique, diverse characters, creepy settings at the right time, carrie fisher (princess Leia)is in it and acting was very good (for most girls)
negatives- same scare tactics throughout the movie, not that suspenseful until the end,and 2/3 of the movie seemed like a dark comedy rather than horror (but not a big deal)
these are my simple thoughts about the movie. it might be have lots cliches but its a good movie if u like the 90s or classic horror movie homages then ull like this movie.

If you like your horror films generic and by-the-numbers, Sorority row will more than suffice. As for everyone else, please reminisce about the nostalgic, fun treats the 80's slashers treated with and skip on this one. Sorority row is replete with cliches, unnecessary twists, and a recycled premise. It feels disposable and while harmless and entertaining, it certainly isn't worth the substantial amount of money, the price of a ticket is. This film isn't as atrocious or putrid as I make it out to be, but it's just so disposable and run-of-the-mill, that had all the ideas and deaths headed into a fresher concept with some better performances, this film would have been so much better. Wait for the home video format and save your money.

Linzierose why are you posting a 2/10 rating if you haven't even seen the movie? If you just want to ramble use the messageboard. And Audrina is in it for about 19 seconds so even if she is terrible it's hardly enough to ruin the movie.

Posted By: Linzierose at 7:20pm, September 24, 2009

Havent seen the movie but I have seen the trailer and previews and read some reviews on it. Not sure what it is goin to be like but I like these scream killer sort of movies so hopefully it was done right. The only thing that makes me nervous is Audrina is in it....Does that girl even know how to act??

Posted By: misslouisee at 4:21pm, September 24, 2009

It was good, slightly better than I was expecting! Some good scenes but I could have done with a bit less of the trashy teen party scenes.

Posted By: kryptonite_soul at 4:50am, September 24, 2009

i loved it i thought it was a load of fun, yes it was typical slasher and followed all of the slasher rules but to me that doesnt matter and isnt neccessarily a bad thing, on the whole loads of fun and couldnt ask for more.

Posted By: Mrs. Krueger at 10:39pm, September 23, 2009

it was okay, the ending disappointing. i could really use a killer with a better motive and connection to the characters. other than that, i was slightly reminded of jawbreaker at the beginning....

Posted By: capkronos at 9:38am, September 23, 2009

I hardly ever agree with the reviews on here and this is no exception. This film was watchable at best. I would have probably rated it a 5, except that terrible ending left an awful taste in my mouth.

what to say about this Remake, For most who know me Im not a huge fan of remakes and for that I will say it is no where near as good as the Original for this reason in 1983, this was a ground breaker for slasher flicks with that twist at the end. It was about revenge. And for that it will always remain # 1, however this remake wasnt terrible. I loved how they switched it up. The girls are hotter and the deaths are more unique. My question is, where is the revenge factor? It was completely taken out therefore her death was never avenged. They added characters to give you the illusion. But took the twist and added some cheesy conclusion. Owell I guess because it was entertaing. Briana Evigan has kinda grown on me since the Donnie Darko days. She did an awesome job, and was happy to see the lead go to her. All and all its Fair. Not horrible, not great. Different. Kinda took away from the whole point of the original, a Revenge killing spree to Advenge a death out of pain and hate. They changed it up. Still good.

I enjoyed it. I relate to Andy so much lol Im going for a 10 to bring it up. Im not picky about every small thing about a movie unless most people.

I was so looking forward to this movie but i wad extremely disappointed!

The story wasn't that great, there was no suspense, the kills were boring and the characters were dumb as shit except fir Cassidy and Ellie.

This movie had potential but had too many laughs, horrible pacing and score and was just boring but not the worst remake ever but is pretty bad...

The only reason i'm giving this a 4/10 is b/c Julian Morris and Matt Lanter are hot as hell(yes I'm gay)

Posted By: =AuTI_tAkahashi= at 6:41am, September 20, 2009

I literally cannot believe that this piece of fart got a high rating here.

I mean, this is a horror site so the least I expect are members who actually know what a great horror film looks like.

I'm not even gonna waste a minute of my life trying to describe how awful this movie was. Come 'on guys.

Remember how SCREAM revived horror 13 years ago??
Well, don't put it to waste.

Posted By: BroadwayBoi69 at 1:19am, September 20, 2009

I had a BLAST with this movie.
It was well shot.
The girls were hot...and so were the guys (I'm gay, sue me!)
The deaths were well done! =D
The characters, although bitchy, were fun and i ended up actually liking them. At first i found them annoying but i don't know when but at some point i began rooting for them. I especially loved Cassidy! She was badass!
For the first hour i was having a great time!
By why only an "okay" rating? The last half hour! Granted the first hour wasn't exactly intelligent, but it wasn't COMPLETELY dumb either. But the last half hour threw ALL intelligence out the window. The killer's reveal was dumb and too obvious and made no sense. Dumb moves were made by the characters nonstop.
Oh and where were teh suspense and scares? I wasn't scared once throughout the movie. There were too many jump scares...but here's the problem, jump scares don't scare me. I like cold unadulterated suspense (a la Halloween).
Plus there was one character change that was weird and wasn't handled well in the end. It looked cool and i let it go because i liked her, but again, it just was awkward.
If they would have fixed up that last half hour, i would have given this movie a higher rating. But as, it was an okay film and i had a ton of fun. Oh and the girls in this film are great actresses =D ...well most of them are. *Cough*Audrina*Cough*

Posted By: cjhorrorfan13 at 12:30am, September 20, 2009

I Really Loved This Movie.
it was a great time to watch and was like i know what you did last summer and scream mushed together with is great!
the killer was alright.
the costume was awesome!
the deaths were sick!
no chase scene :(
but ending gives up a set up for a sequel
so i really hope there will be a Sorority Row 2

Posted By: msamy at 11:38pm, September 19, 2009

This movie was better than I expected! It delieved on gore, sex, nudity, and damn funny lines (my fav being "What is this? The dry humpping olympics??") Haha! This movie didn't take itself too serious and the death scene with the bottle of alcohol was awesome- it should be great for AA :)Very entertaining!

Posted By: gina_spicoli at 12:11pm, September 19, 2009

good ol slasher.. but man idk if was cause i was stoned but the ending kinda confused me. overall i liked it and so will you!

Posted By: KingKyle007 at 10:55pm, September 18, 2009

jsut got back, soooooo good. I thought everyone delivered their character well (besides Caroline D'Amore (N)didnt like her), some VERY inventive deaths, good laughs to relieve you from all this tension and not cheesy or unneccessary at alll. thought the twist coulda been a little more twisted but still good. REALLY good movie, definetely one of the bests of the year along with F13, MBV:3D, and Orphan :D!!!!

Posted By: akazandr at 9:11pm, September 18, 2009

Cool kills in the movie. Also, the look of the film is good although the light whites became to bright at times. It's not that scary, but it's enjoyable. The movie is kind of what you'd probably expect.

Posted By: zombiefan09 at 7:15pm, September 17, 2009

I thought this was a really good horror/slasher film. As I watched this, I was reminded of the classic slasher films of the 80's and 90's! I loved the killer's outfit, it was really creepy and I loved the pimped out lug wrench that the killer uses. Rumer Willis did an awesome job as Ellie, and was the only girl I wanted to survive. At a party held at the Theta Pi house, Jessica, Cassidy, Ellie, Claire, Chugs and Megan play a prank on Megan's boyfriend, Garrett. When the prank goes too far, Megan ends up dead and the girls throw her body in an old mineshaft, and swear never to speak of it again.

Eight months later on graduation day, someone wearing a black hooded robe comes to kill off all the girls who knew one at a time. During the graduation party is when things really begin to cook. Could it be Megan coming back for revenge? Or someone who can't live with the secret anymore? I highly recommend SORORITY ROW!!!

Posted By: xln10 at 5:55pm, September 17, 2009

entertaining and humorous.

Posted By: MattSlash at 8:06pm, September 15, 2009

I thought Sorority Row though somewhat entertaining in a guilty pleasure type of way was too predictable, humorous with dry kills and no brains for its own good and is not nearly as good, creepy or thrilling as the original but I do admit it was more fun with hotter chicks as the leads and the acting was slightly better if about the same but they did play better bitches this time around. The killer this time was lame with a bada$$ weapon it didn't deserve and is a black hooded outfit the best disguise they could come up with, come on talk about unoriginality!!! Anyways they should of stuck with the original story and improve the kills and stuck with the creepy harlequin costume but they didn't. It was like a combination of The In Crowd, Black Christmas(remake), Very Bad Things, Prom Night(remake) and a little of IKWYDLS, but it was more of a dark comedy with a body count than a pure horror slasher flick if you ask me. Still though it was a better remake than Prom Night, Black Christmas and definitely Friday The 13th. The ending opens a door to a possible sequel but I say why bother because this one was just not that scary or worthy enough for a sequel and it makes me wonder if the people in the horror genre is even trying hard anymore to deliver a quality horror picture. If this makes alot of money they will probably go through with a sequel, that's just how they do it these days.

very entertaining and funny. the deaths are great, the pacing is perfect. much better than H2

Posted By: anthony1 at 3:38pm, September 14, 2009

very entertaining, fun, and funny slasher film. A good time at the movies!

Posted By: mortalkombatwhore at 7:09am, September 14, 2009

Thought the movie was fun!
Yes, the main character was annoying and wouldnt shut up, but most of the sisters are bearable.
The plot is stupid but still interesting.
Kills weren't original, but very well shot and paced and not so boring as other slasher films *cough cough SCREAM*

Not SCARY SCARY, but HEAPS OF FUN!

Posted By: spacedog at 9:22pm, September 13, 2009

This is not as good or as fun as you want it to be. I would not say it is awful but it really is being overrated! Could have gone straight to DVD.

Posted By: Jason4eva at 6:16pm, September 13, 2009

WOW! Think Jawbreaker meets Mean Girls meets Valentine meets I Know What You Did Last Summer & you got one hell of a fun flick! The girls were amazing especially Leah Pipes,Briana Evigan, & Rumer Willis and the best was Carrie Fisher!(lol) The killer's motive was very weak but this thing still rocked! The deaths(which were a whole hell of a lot more than i thought would be) were sometimes very orifinal and then sometimes just fun slasher deaths.Although they did have a trend. To the head! idk why but for some reason almost every one besides one is in the head. I can't believe it only made 5 million this weekend! come on people show this fun slasher some love! Can't wait for the dvd!

Worth a look

Posted By: Brandon371 at 5:24pm, September 13, 2009

Before I saw the movie, I wanted to read the script (I like to be spoiled sometimes). I have to admit, I hated the script, but I still wanted to see how the movie would be. It was great. The deaths were very original and gory, a great and good looking cast, and hilarious dialogue. I have to say, I was shocked to find out that it only made 5M this weekend, it definitly deserved to make more. I will be buying the DVD when it comes out.

Posted By: Screamer at 4:50pm, September 13, 2009

This was okay. I did like that they were all stupid bitches. It had some laughs and a couple jokes. Even though the end felt a little too 90s, I still enjoyed it. It was fun and meant to be nothing more. Oh and the beginning shot was awsome.

Posted By: B-DReview at 4:08pm, September 13, 2009

I went to see this movie on Friday, thinking it wouldn't be an amazing slasher film, and I was right. It was "okay," but not bad. I predicted the ending early because I knew the killer would be the most random person and I had originally thought that the killer would have seen the cell phone video after it getting sent to him.
As soon as the cell phone read 84 miles away, I said to my friend "It's on a bus and he is going to either come and save them or he is the one killing everyone."
This movie kept me entertained and ended with a twist or two. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5.

Posted By: groundgamer at 8:47am, September 13, 2009

What has horror come to? Really, this movie is like a full lengh Buffy film. It wasn't entertaining in the slightest. It was a big dissapointment, because I was expecting something really good here. But all you get is a bunch of Americans, running around with fake boobs and too much makeup. Sorority Row isn't a horror, it's a thriller at best. It's a corny, action, thriller flick with Charlies Angles type sequences. But, maybe I'm being a little harsh? I found the begining was entertaining, and some of the deaths were ok, but nothing special, and the whole idea is re cycled horror, that has been seen in so many other movies. There was a little mystery and suspense along the way, to keep you gripped, but nothing special. Rent it when released on DVD, because this trash isn't worth full money!

4/10

Posted By: unkordinated at 3:40am, September 13, 2009

I was entertained with the movie. I wish it had delved all the way into camp and had a more mean girls vibe the entire ride, but it was still good none the less. Also wish the gore had been amped up, but the kills were still entertaining and fairly bloody. Actors were all great, especially Leah Pipes and Rumer Willis. check this out.

Posted By: Gamerguy at 12:41am, September 13, 2009

Great Deaths, good acting, and a story we've seen before but will keep you guessing. I'm impressed, this movie does play Homage to the early 90's Slasher Flicks. As an avid follower of the genre, I go into horror movies skeptical, that it will be a failure. Hollywood forgot what it was like to scare someone and turned the Horror film into a gore film genre. I do miss the eighty's films where it was something totally new, directors would push the packet to deliver something we haven't seen. Sorority Row was everything you cold want in a slasher film. Hot girls, cool deaths, decent acting, and a bad ass Carrie Fisher. Watch out Summit Entertainment is becoming a force to be reckoned with...

Posted By: zooey at 11:24pm, September 12, 2009

I came into the theaters without high hopes and was sure I was going to be disappointed but I had a good time with it. It reminds of the old slasher movies from the eighties and hey it's not too badly acted either in fact if you can get over Rumer Willis's enormous chin you feel some sympathy for the girl. Great kills though, loved it when Audrina Patridge died-just that was worth watching the movie for. Midway through the movie I had already figured out who the killer was but what I wasn't so sure about was the motive but even that was believable b/c who doesn't hate the stupid bitches in sororities AND frats??? Worth seeing even though it is typical but hey what isn't these days?

it was funny, scary-ish, and just a good time. Very inventive deaths. Plus the girls were beyond hot.

Posted By: insanitormang at 5:59pm, September 12, 2009

Pretty decent flick. Cant say I wasnt pleased. Good for a date movie too. Good jump scares and good violence. Not very gory but still good.

Posted By: rcinvb at 5:28pm, September 12, 2009

I thought it started really good. Had some pretty decent kills. What ruined the movie for me was the many plot holes and really no sympathetic characters too care about! I will never understand how movies are made w/ plot holes. The reasoning the killer gave was lame as well. Totally knew who the killer was b/c of the blantant use of "1 feature".

Posted By: raiderkid67 at 4:06pm, September 12, 2009

fun movie. not really trying to over do itself. it was a good remake and throwback to 80s slashers. its always nice to get back to the basics.

Posted By: PromNight2008 at 12:52pm, September 12, 2009

Very fun, very entertaining slasher film. Great addition to the subgenre, and one of the best remakes. Caroline D'Amore was a pointless addition to the film, though. Her character should've been "back-spaced" right out of the script.

Posted By: derek1981 at 11:45am, September 12, 2009

very by the numbers..... ending kind of lame... but overall pretty good

Posted By: WalkingDeadGuy at 4:42am, September 12, 2009

Just got back from watching 'Sorority Row'. Fun movie guys, it's not original by any means and the acting is what you would expect but it delivers some decent kills and some funny lines. This movie is standard teen slasher but get's an "A+" for owning it. Like 'My bloody Valentine' this movie doesn't try to be anything other than entertaining.

Had so much potential...

Sorority Row had a lot of potential to be a great 90's slasher throw-back. Instead, stylish camera movements and angles were replaced by shaky camera movements (obviously trying to be in style but completely overdoing it!). Rarely was there a still shot and it was annoying. Kills were fun and proved you didn't need to overdo it, but they were too rapid. There was no suspense build up or anything. Just jump-kill-gone. It's a shame because the killer is creepy and they don't give him the chance to really get you on the edge of your seat in fear. The score in the movie is really awful. It either doesn't suit the mood or just bumps up for a kill (like a second or two tops) then fades away. No atmosphere. The twist was worse than the one I predicted and completely removed the scare factor from anything that had happened. The film did have a cane in it, which was really cool (although it was quickly discarded and never used). The acting was pretty decent and the film carried well up until the end (which was a fucking mess!). Despite the huge flaws in Sorority Row, it still kept me entertained so it must have done something right. Could have been worse.

Posted By: ghostslasher13 at 12:20am, September 12, 2009

I had fun at this movie. BeingBorn in 1982 I wasnt able to watch most 80's slashers, Not until I was 11 did I get a chance to watch John Carpenters Halloween Although I started getting into the 80's style of slashers(thank you VHS), I mainly grew up with Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, being 16 at this time. I liked those films as they were just fun slasher films. This follows the patterns of those films. Its fun, has some good kills and funny dialogue. Its a bit refreshing as well. Its not like Halloween 2, Firday the 13th or the My Bloody Valentine remake. There's no gimmick here, just a fun time.

Posted By: Truhorrur at 12:17am, September 12, 2009

Ugh...
again BD what were u thinking?
this movie deserved a pg-13 rating nothing more,
yes it had some nude scenes which i guess is all what American needs for an R rating even thoug the violence was uber weak!!!
You say you want a good old fashioned slasher??? wow!!!! all horror fans have been asking for something different in their slashers and all the "gimmicks" u saw they have make the movie better since if we wanna watch a slasher why would we even consider a movie past the 1980's????

this movie is horrible and if they didnt give BD some money for a banner it would never make it on this sight....

pls don't validate this type of slop, its not even as good as " i know what u did last summer, and urban legend " which is sad it itself, the studio is taking advantage of people who were too young to see those earlier movies and realize they sucked just as much then as they do now!!!

BD u fucked up ... again

Posted By: ProjectAlice at 10:29pm, September 11, 2009

Not gonna lie the killer surprised me I didn't see it coming at ALL. Very good movie

Posted By: Repo!Screams at 8:03pm, September 11, 2009

Through the eyes of an old school horror fan, this movie may not be the best. I grew up with teen slashers like Scream and other simple, straight to the point, bitch got stabbed movies. This movie fit right into my ideals. I've long awaited this film because it worked with what I like the most. Hot girls, witty dialouge, and simple yet entertaining kills. Without you realizing it you know the characters more than you think you do. About half-way through the movie you can completely understand what these girls are about. With that, some of the characters were rather cliche but I liked it :). All & all, if you are expecting over-the-top stabbings and stomping in of faces skip out on this movie and waste your money on Halloween 2. But if you are looking from some oldschool hot college girls getting massacred I suggest you see this.

Posted By: WhiteMass at 7:46pm, September 11, 2009

There's no reason you wont find fun in this film and the only reason you'll come out disappointed is if you go in with all the wrong expectations.

Pointless one liners, bitchiness to the max and even a slow motion walk from a Charlies Angel movie mixed with blood and gore and some surprise one hit kills. What could be more entertaining?

Posted By: MachetAY! at 6:56pm, September 11, 2009

So bad... so so bad.

No scares, no fun, no gore, bad humor and not much nakedness. Whats left is a bunch of annoying (but hot) chicks in a mindless Goosebumps movie. I had high hope that this would be more like Prom Night the original but it was more along the Prom Night remake.

Posted By: Slasher Freak at 12:24pm, September 11, 2009

I'm happy with the results it's just what I was expecting. I just wish the killer would had been someone else, that it was gorier and a little less wittier.

Posted By: BrAxToN=Filmlover at 6:16am, September 11, 2009

Sorority Row, though somewhat flawed, it is still worthy to see. The film was enjoyable to watch and after so many horror films trying to be over the top lately, it is nice to have one that is just by the numbers.

Since it is by the numbers it is fairly predictable at times but nevertheless it is still fun to watch.

One of the charms of the film is that it does not waste much time getting to the goods. Rather than wasting our time with a meaningless character development we are given the basic information we need to know and left to run with that which works for this film.

Another great part is that the kills are plentiful and simple. While they are simple they are still fun to watch because after watching films like H2 and The Final Destination where all the deaths need to be extreme, a film with some simplisty is a nice break.

Overall I found myself plesently surprised by this film considering I was expecting something much worse. Nothing groundbreaking but still worthy to see if looking for a film to see this weekend.

Posted By: Slasher_Guy at 4:38am, September 11, 2009

I saw the film on Wednesday after waiting for over a year and after loving the original film. It didn't disappoint. If you are a fan of movies like 'Scream' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and even 'Mean Girls', then this movie will not disappoint. Plenty of intentional laughs, funny dialogue, great characters, lots of violence, nudity...it's a blast. Leah Pipes is brilliant as one of the best bitches to grace the big screen in years and Carrie Fisher's cameo was awesome. Great soundtrack too, and a cool looking killer. If you are a horror fan looking for lots of suspense, tension and the next horror masterpiece and can't enjoy Sorority Row for what it is -- don't watch it. Fans of slashers (teen slashers)? It's a must-see!

Posted By: truchainsaw28 at 3:00am, September 11, 2009

I just returned from a midnight screening of Sorority Row and must say that I left pretty satisfied and not for the reasons I originally thought. "Row" tells the familiar story of a group of sorority sisters embarking on their senior year who commit a devilish prank that ends gruesomely with the death of their sister Megan (Patridge). One year later of the eve of their graduation day and on the night of the biggest party of their college life someone starts offing them one by one in really creative ways. The killer is unimportant so don't spend to much time thinking about it because it's not the films focus. The films focus is a mixture of Heathers and Scream. And it plays delightfully well it got some scares but its got some even bigger laughs. the dialogue is so sharp between the bitchy young victims its obvious was not to take the film seriously. The kills are great and wonderfully inventive from a wine bottle to a flare gun and a "pimped out" tire iron. The reason why the tired material works here and earlier this year in the slasherfest My Bloody valentine is because it knows what type of film it is. And relishes in the absurd retartedness of slasher classics. There lots of gore, nudity and a bloody kill every five seconds. Like Valentine the charachters more developed than in most horror fare and the acting is above par as well. With surprisngly good performances from Rumer Willis and a career making queen bitch one by Leah Pipes ads Jessica. I mean you have to laugh at the ridiculously lame but awesome cameo by Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia of Star Wars). And the absolute absurdity of the films last twenty minutes. But with plenty of well placed grease, ash, dirt and plenty of slow motion shots of the girls in front of the fire you can't help but to hope it could go on forever. Look I could complain about some of the films inconsistentcies, the fact is has really nothing to do with the original except one of the charachters names and a cute prop thrown in or the absurdities of the films events or lack of originality in concept but why bother this monster wasn't engineered for all that bs. So don't expect to be surprised by the the films story line but do expect to be blown away by the films fantastically fun execution. The most entertaining horror film of the year!
