We broke the news earlier this year that offers went out to a trio of Scream stars to return for a fourth time. E! Online breaks the news this afternoon that both David Arquette and Courteney Cox have officially signed on to return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively in the Weinstein Company's Scream 4. "We are going to be doing Scream 4," Arquette tells the site. "Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct." We had reported, and been told by Craven, that if the money/script was right, he'd return to helm the mega franchise that took the 90's by storm. We're told that the film will be a younger version of the Scream films, although Neve Campbell threw a kink in the wheel by refusing to return as Sidney Prescott.
I reckon they will get Neve eventually. Just hope they dont get so desperate that they get another actor to play the part. I really really hope Wes directs this, it would just make it so much better.
Just make it already!!! Scream my fav. horror movie of all time, I just want a release date to satisfy myself!... that didnt sound right. They can say Sidney cannot be reached, she is in witness protection, changed her name again and is a completely different person.
There must be ways to keep Sidney away from the script. How about a whole new franchise that happens in the same world as the original, but an all-new storyline that connects to the previous one.
Why cant they just let this whole fucking die off? With all the crap horror movies to hit theaters the past few years the last thing we need is just yet another sequel, especially one to a franchise that basically went to pot after the first one.
yeah i could think of a lot better sequals to make than another fucking scream movie. And I agree with Gargus, the second and third one sucked really bad. And Mikie, Scream is seriously your favorite scary movie? Seriously? Do you have brain damage or have you just not seen that many movies?
The last one came out 10 years ago, leave it alone. Horror has become serious again with movies like High Tension, Wolf Creek, The Descent and The Strangers just to name a few. The Scream films were poking fun at the genre and had comedy mixed in which may have been appropriate for the 90s (when horror was dead) but not now. I'm assuming these people just need a paycheck. Neve is smart for staying away.
These movie's were good..for there time.now with horror going harder and harder, these films need some good gore and nudity and a great new story to keep up.
Excellent news,i hope in a way this inspires Neve to change her mind now..Having Williamson back with these two is good though, for wes to say yes would be top notch!
i'm a big fan of the original series and I think if done right this could be good...my personal idea is that they should find a way to poke fun at remakes.
can you guys like stop posting this kind of news from the Scream and Evil Dead franchise until some ACTUAL TRUE and VERIFIED news happens? im tired of the usual "yah it could happen, its a possibility" crap already.
YES!!!!! scream and the scream series are my favorite horrror movies i cant wait 4 it espicially since kevin is writing wes is directing and the arquettes are back. I will say that this is supposed 2 be a whole new trilogy but i think in order for that 2 work nev campbell HAS to come back. But only for 1 reason....to die in the opening scene so they can establish a new story instead of continuing with the sidney character. Neve needs to accept this role to rejuvinate her career and this can be the film to do it. Scream is the GREATEST slasher movie of all time. And yes BETTER than the original halloween. And the trilogy is much better than the halloween series. So its great seeing the BEST series in horror movie history make a comeback!!!
I hope the film is about how to survive a remake. I also hope that Wes gets in there and shows people like Michael Bay and Brad Fuller how it's really done.
