While all sorts of rumors have been floating around the web over the past six months, we've been digging and digging to get the real story on Dimension Films' Scream 4. Today we have an update that comes from a 100% reliable source, although I can't use names. Things have been pretty silent since the film was officially announced back in July, but now we have the skinny, all of which can be read beyond the break.
While SCREAM 4 is still very much in the early stages of development, we have a few exclusive facts to kick start the hype.
Fact #1: Kevin Williamson (writer of two of the SCREAM films (character credit on third)) is going to start writing a draft, although it may or may not become the shooting script (which is typical).
Fact #2: Wes Craven may or may not direct, but there is a very good possibility that he will return.
Fact #3: They are making financial offers to David Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette and Neve Campbell to play cameos.
Fact #4: This will be a younger version of the SCREAM movies.
Watch for more soon as we'll been staying close to this highly anticipated project.
Sounds like a lot of maybe's there. I hope Craven comes back to direct, but I don't think it's necessary for Williamson to return. Scream was original as hell, but he just seemed to be draining the well dry. Plus, we have Williamson to thank for all of the ironic, laugh at ourselves, crap that wormed it's way into horror over the last fifteen years. I hate his teenagers in his work. I just hope that whatever direction the new film takes, it is done with a fair amount of maturity, and darkness.
Just a quick correction.. Williamson didn't write Scream 3.. That one was penned by Ehren Kruger. Which probably has a lot to do with why it is in my opinion by far the weakest entry in the series.. That being said, if Williamson and Craven are both on board for the 4th one then my expectations have definitely jumped up several notches..
Everybody is so quick to jump on the 'i hope its not PG-13' bandwagon these days. People even complained the new F13 would be PG-13, yeah right. Use your heads people!. The original trilogy was R and I don't see why the new movie wouldn't be either.
Why ? I don't have good feeling about this. SCREAM 1 was fun and original. #2 was ok. But like all series, the sequels just get worse. See SAW,HALLOWEEN,F13,ELM STREET. I don't even see Craven and Williamson being able to deliver another installment that will hold up next to the original. They should just wait another 10-15 years and remake it,(LOL).
So...the guy who you apparently *think* wrote all three may or may not return, and Wes Craven may or may not return. You keep using this word "update", but I do not think it means what you think it means. Did someone at some point tell you that you were a journalist?
Younger ... I don't like the sound of that. Hopefully it just means they won't explore Sidney's life that much further and concentrate on younger characters. The scream trilogy wasn't exactly a gorefest, but PG-13 would still suck.
Scream 3 was horrible, they should leave it at that, or remake the first since were in remake craze here...its been 13 years since the original so why not?
I would love to see scream 4 because then all the major 4 characters will get killed off. That would be an awesome 4th installment. and it will be the end of them :)
Get her done, but dont know how they will do it though. Who will go after her now.
i think this will be awesome for the scream franchise... i do agree that they should get another lead character other than Sydney. they should also have more deaths and have less survivors!
I'm still on the fence with this as Scream is my fave movie of all time (don't judge me!)
This is what I think they mean by younger version of the movies:
I'm thinking it will go back to Woodsboro. Dewey will be Sheriff, Gale will be a local new anchor, Sidney will be a teacher at Woodsboro High. I think that it will deal with the student of Woodsboro high.
While I am very excited about this project I can't help but be a little worried about it being a "younger Scream". That and the fact that all the original main characters might just be doing cameos makes me think this is gonna be like the new 90210 of Scream... But I'm still looking forward to it.
Still mad at the fact that Gellar was stabbed in the back and thrown off a balcony in Scream 2. Back in the 90's she couldn't catch a break huh? She even spent 25 minutes of a movie running away from a fisherman and got hooked to death on a pile of tires. I like Scream, but Scream 2 was more fun for me right up until the silly reveal at the end. Scream 3 was a comedy. I didn't love it. Scream 4 needs good kids if its going to work.
I really don't know what "younger version" means and it is bugging the hell out of me.
