The main fault of FvJ was the characters, not the actual story. Though I blame Shannon and Swift for that, because if Ft13 remake was any proof, Shannon and Swift can't write likable characters worthy shit. After reading the script to THIS one, while it's NOT penned by Shannon and Swift, it still suffers from what dragged FvJ down. The characters still aren't that likable, but that's only a bit of what's wrong with this movie. The story's also pretty convoluted, and while I think the writer(Eric Heisserer) tried to make it sound smart by adding twists and turns through a Nancy Drew-style mystery, the sheer stupidity of some of the situations is just unbelievable. The problem is with Heisserer, who lacks the experience to tackle such a project. I mean, they got this dude penning the reboots to two of horror's greatest movies(This and The Thing), which isn't the brightest of moves considering how green he is in the industry. From what I heard, the changes they made in the final script are very small, and that most of the leaked draft remains intact, especially the HORRID DIALOG.
