UPDATE: Hannibal Lecter Set to Return to the Big Screen?

Update: Story is FALSE as news was stolen from an old, old article. Read about it here: I'm not exactly sure of the source, or the quality of content on the site, but Contact Music is reporting that Anthony Hopkins is teaming up with director Ridley Scott to bring his most infamous villain Hannibal Lecter back to the big screen. In addition, they claim to have the casting of the new Clarice Starling, once donned by Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs. Read on for more on this "rumor" and watch for confirmation as it comes in.

They write that the actor will reprise his cannibalistic serial killer for the fourth time in a second sequel to the 1991 hit film The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won a Best Actor Oscar.

Hopkins also appeared in 2001's Hannibal before starring in the 2002 prequel Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising

And actress Cate Blanchett (pictured below) has been tipped to take over the role of Clarice Starling after Jodie Foster pulled out to direct Claire Danes in the forthcoming Flora Plum.

A spokesperson for film-makers Universal says, "Hopkins and Scott are both very committed. We like what we've got, and the revised script is really, really good."

Studio confirmation? Sounds like some fava beans and liver are in the near future...

WOW!!! Will Lecter need a walker to get around in this one?

Bullshit! Why would they make one without a Harris novel to base it on, considering Harris churned out Hannibal Rising just so they could film it anyway?!

"Hopkins also appeared in 2001's Hannibal before starring in the 2002 prequel Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising." If you can show me where Anthony Hopkins appears in Hannibal Rising, I'll never trash-talk to your fanboy, researchless website ever again.

Considering how bad the books are nowadays, breaking away from them is a good thing.

I remember a few years ago they were talking about a Hannibal movie with Will Graham as the villain being hunted down by Clarice.

I'm literally shocked! THIS CAME OUT OF NOWHERE!!!I wish they would stick to Julianne Moore though for Clarice.I think Blanchett is great but they already changed her once.I really hope this is true!

I barely remember Hannibal Rising myself but I do remember enjoying it. It was kinda forgettable though.

Yeah, sorry to be Mr Negative, but I wouldnt hold my breath for this....Starling and the Doc ran away together at the end of "Hannibal" (novel)....never say never though....

On the other hand, the movie version of "Hannibal" didnt end the same way as the novel...Hopkins even turned down a narrative role for "Hannibal rising",so it all seems unlikely, but I could be wrong.....

So will there be a book before the film, or released simultaneously with the film? Since that always seems a prerequisite for these films. If Thomas Harris isn't involved then it may not turn out well. Case in point, Hannibal Rising.

C'mon people do some research before posting faux news! The source article comes from New York Post and it's from...NINE friecking years ago, refering to 'hannibal' (2001).

anyway, i'd eat Cate Blanchett's brains.

Locke815... hate to break it to you, but you're wrong. Universal said that both Ridley and Hopkins are dedicated to it. Yep, BD didn't fuck up, you did.

Why not juliana moore? Why switch it up again, we already have to deal with the change between 1 and 2. Also do we need Clarice at all? Have blanchett play a different character and then there's no more continuity changes. Hell bring back Norton, I thought he was more interesting then the others anyway.

I would love a Jodie Foster/Anthony Hopkins reunion, but at least Cate Blanchett is a wonderful replacement. I did not care for Julianne Moore in the role.

Hate to break this to you Roll, but Thomas Harris wrote the book AND the screenplay to "Hannibal Rising" and it sucked the big one!

Coincidentally, just watched Hannibal the other day and thought it was still fantastic. Would love to see another one with Hopkins and Ridley but would surely prefer Julian Moore back as well. On the other hand as someone else has pointed out here, since Hannibal Rising was such a piece of shit, I wouldn't mind the fact that the continuation wouldn't be based on Harris' novel any longer. Looking forward to this!

Sounds like casting is good so far. Good actors and a good director. Lets just hope the story is just as good. No joke, though, Hoppy is pretty old now. Maybe there'll be a good stunt double, too :)

i agree with spookyville. hope this is just a rumor. lector gets older and older and clarice is getting younger and younger
