When we first announced exclusively on B-D back in May of 2008 that a sequel to 30 Days of Night was in development, we got an egg in our face and everyone was quick to slam us. Today, in an interview with MTV, Steve Niles explains that not only is a sequel in development, but the script is mother-f*ckin'-written! Read on for the skinny and get ready for more ice-cold vampire violence (possibly) coming to theaters!

30 Days of NightThere will be a sequel,” Niles told MTV News. “The script is in. I’ve been working on it with a buddy of mine, Ben Ketai, who directed the last round of the online webisodes.

The script is based on ‘Dark Days,’” explained Niles.

In “Dark Days,” the character of Stella Olemaun heads to Los Angeles after surviving the vampire attack in Barrow, Alaska. She intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben, during the Barrow incident.

While the film made an impressive $70m at the box office, typically that doesn't mean theatrical sequel. Niles explains that Sam Raimi is giving him some hope.

We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I had a long talk with Sam,” explained Niles. “He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’

Look for more info when it comes in.

So, I guess this will be straight to DVD. That sucks. It means that the budget will be super-low, and the film will most likely suck; no pun intended.

Loved the first one. This one better go to theaters.

FUCK YEAH!!!! 30 Days of Night is my favorite vampire movie and Dark Days is even cooler than the original. With Niles writing the script, it is guaranteed to kick ass just like the graphic novel!!!

The first was so goddamn horrible I shudder thinking back on it. Hooray that we'll never see another one in theaters!

I liked '30 Days of Night'. I agree i have heard a lot of mixed reviews on it, but I personally found it to be an original story. I guess instead of having decent vampire films in the theater we'll get GAP-ad vampires that sparkle and Ambercrombie & Fitchwolves. Vampires are becoming lame goth and emo kid turd-scrapings.

Why would they make another one of these horrible movies. the first one put me to sleep 3 times. the only thing it has going for it is the blood. it had good effects but horrible story. they could have made it better by doing something better with the time in the movie. if they only attacked like once a week then why wouldnt they just run away. they could have figured out a way to kill the vampires better then they did. This is not a good idea at all

One of my favorite vampire films. As long as Niles is still writing it should kick ass regardless. I do hope it goes to theaters.

Maybe you would get why they didn't "just run away" if you stayed awake and actually watched it. Where the fuck would they go anyway? Out in a blizzard wasteland to freeze to death? That's smart. Have you ever seen snow? The town was cut off and the people that left prior to the first attack had to leave by plane. It's spelled out clearly in the story. What should they have been doing with their time: they're cut off from everyone else, low on ammo and supplies, there is no power, and they are being hunted. Enlighten us as to what would have made it better. A 'Dance-Dance Revolution' tounament? A 'Twilight' convention? Banjo lessons? Try watching it objectively and then bitch about reasonably.

This... is good news. I've been in love with 30 Days of Night ever since way back when I read the graphic novel. The movie captured it all in a nutshell, too, and I was really shocked that the movie got as little support as it did. $70 million, people? And you've made it possible already to greenlight a fucking Twilight sequel? Are you kidding me? Less of the okay-to-hangout-in-broad-daylight sparkly nancyboy vampires, and more of the badassed, this-is-why-you-should-be-afraid-of-them vampires is ALWAYS a good thing. Original story, original resolution, this flick was everything a vampire movie should be. So yeah, with Steve Niles having written the script, the sequel should kick some serious ass.

I loved 30 days of night, very entertaining and pretty fuckin gnarly in the gore department. get rid of the mtv style fast shaky camera bullshit and I'll be more than excited for this.

30 days of night was really awesome, great blood effects, great directing, great acting, great everything really. hopefully this wont be strait to dvd just because it would be cool to see in theatres, but if it is dvd only i shall definetly buy it.

The original was great but the fact that the sequel is being made for DVD doesn't bode well at all. Raimi assuring Niles not to underestimate the market is laughable. As a director the man is a god but with few exceptions the tripe that Ghost House churn out is beyond poor. Whilst Niles still being on board is a blessing, it's doubtful he'll be given the funds to match his ambition.

So, is this going to be straight to d.v.d? If so I'll pass on it. I ask because he mentions "this direct-to-DVD market." Hopefully it wont.

I as well loved 30 days. One of the best vampire movies ever. A sequel could be great. I would love to see it happen, but would hope they could capture the vibe they did in the first and not bring it down.

DIRECT TO DVD MOVIES........SUCK EVERYTIME. They will ruin a great original.

30 Days of Night is on my long list of all-time favorite horror flicks. It made vampires frightening again. No simple feat. But PLEASE... ! Let this one see theater release, the quality of the 1st installment deserves that much.
