I've already thrown my hands up in the air and stopped caring, but if Sam Raimi ever does make a fourth Evil Dead film, without a shadow of a doubt I'd be one of the first in line. Raimi was on hand at the SXSW festivities in Austin, Texas today to promote his latest horror venture, Drag Me to Hell, which had its official premiere there this evening. While at the screening, the director basically reiterated old news, while chiming in on Bruce Campbell's exclamation of "no way in hell".
Sam Raimi is giving us blue balls (again) as he's once again rekindled our hope of seeing Ash on the big screen. Personally, I think it's pretty mean to keep throwing nuggets of hope at us, especially when Campbell put this baby to rest a few months ago.
"When IGN caught up with star Bruce Campbell earlier in the year, he was hesitant about signing up for a fourth, claiming that the fan backlash to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should give everyone involved pause for thought.
"I liked Indy 4," Raimi said when we put this to him. "He's probably just trying to get out of getting in shape!
"Like any movie it's hard to say if you want to do it or if you don't want to do it until there is a script to talk about," he continued. "So one day I hope to have the time to write a script, and if that happens I'm hoping that Bruce will change his mind." "
Well, there you have it, Raimi basically saying "maybe one day".
As for the remake of The Evil Dead, he's still looking for the right director.
"I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead," he revealed. "That film was made in 16mm on a shoestring budget and blown up to 35mm. The visual effects are crumby, it was done in mono, not even stereo, let alone 5.1. What you could do with it now would be so much better.
"I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation. It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen." "
But really, do we even need a remake, especially if a fourth film is possible? Make up your f*cking mind already and do it.
More bullshit coming from Raimi. Bruce already said that more than likely it's never going to happen. Raimi would rather make a bunch of money doing another Spiderman film than give his fans what he's been teasing for years. Every piece of news about Evil Dead 4 or a remake is "maybe one day". If it ever does happen it will be when these guys are 60 years old. I personally wish that Bruce would just go off and do it by himself because I enjoyed My Name Is Bruce and think he could do it without Raimi. What pisses me off the most is that he said he'd do it when he had the time which would be after the Spiderman films, which gave me hope that after Spiderman 3 he'd have time now to do it but instead he made another movie before he probably gets booked again for another 10 years with three more Spiderman movies. Raimi needs to shit or get off the pot. Stop talking about it and do it already.
I think, that maybe, just...maybe, Sam had a an awesome good time making Drag Me To Hell. Maybe it should be retitled, Drag Me To The Bank...as i bet it'll make a shitload. So this might be why is teasing us again with his Evil Dead 4 talk. Maybe his juices have been rekindled for the genre. BUT! He also mentions the REMAKE. I think this would indeed negate and possibility of a sequel. They'd be wanting to start over again. Case in point, Friday The 13th. There is no chance in hell now of a sequel in the original series. Any new Friday films will now be spawned from the new flick. So, I believe, that Bruce as Ash, has been relegated to the annals of history.
i think he'll probably only do part 4 if he gets alot of flops on his hands, but with the uber millions to make from spiderman 4 & 5, i highly doubt evil dead 4 will happen for at least another 10 years if that
Sam Raimi can go fuck himself. All he ever does is get the fans' hopes up, then shits all over them. He's also the sole reason we never got a "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash" movie.
So yeah, fuck off, Raimi.
The sad fact is there's more money in remakes than sequels these days, purely because that's all we're being offered so that's all we can go and watch. So Hollywood have taken that to mean that's what we want to see. I'm sure every fan would rather see Evil Dead 4 with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell back together again, as we've already seen Evil Dead 1, but I guess only time will tell which avenue they decide to pursue
So.. is there a Santa or is there not? I think EVERYBODY should just not bother thinking about a new Evil Dead movie. I'd be annoyed if I were Bruce getting asked the same question over and over again. Sam said before that he has alot of projects going on and somewhere down the line many years from now he could possibly write a script for a forth one.
As much as I'd love to see ED4 complete with an enthusiastic Bruce and Sam, a remake seems inevitable. Maybe if 'My Name is Bruce' had been better, a fourth sequel might have surfaced eventually. But if Bruce and Sam are both just lukewarm (at best) to the idea, then I'd sooner see a remake. I guess the question is, is a half-assed Evil Dead 4 better than no Evil Dead 4?
How dare he say "maybe something will happen" now when at ComiCon last year he said that he and Ivan were already working on a script.
Don't just feed fans what they want to hear. If you're not planning on doing it. Don't do it! And by that, of course I mean, please please please do it.
Does the world need another Evil Dead movie if Sam and Bruce are not into the idea just now. It's already been sixteen years, wouldn't it be better to wait until they're enthuasiastic than rush in with a pointless sequel or remake. I'm all for an Evil 4 for but I want it to be worth the wait
Hey, Freddy vs Jason eventually happened . . That was as much a pipe dream as this is. Not getting my hopes up, and Bruce is probably the realist here, but still . . Stranger things have happened
This blows my mind.... what the hell else has Bruce got to do? I actually think the whole situation is funny. He acts like he dosen't want to disrespect the "legacy" of the first 3 films, yet fans are all but begging his ass to do another!
"He's also the sole reason we never got a "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash" movie. So yeah, fuck off, Raimi." What's with all the hate? Jesus Christ, you people are among the most possessive and immature I've ever come across. All a filmmaker wants to do is GROW and try new things. And yet you want him and Bruce back in the woods making another stupid tree demon movie. Get over it. P.S. He didn't agree to FvJvA because he would have had to give away the rights to the Ash character/the Evil Dead.
we really don't need an evil dead remake, maybe in a few years another evil dead movie with sam raimi and bruce campbell would be awesome!!!
and the idea of a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie is fucking awful!!!
They should not even consider an Evil Dead remake. part of the reason why some people like it is because of how low the budget was and how well it still carries through the years.
now, an evil dead 4 is something i would love to see, but only with Bruce.
nricexbox, i agree w/ you. the look of & the FX from THE EVIL DEAD are part of the (for lack of a better word) charm of the original. "better" special FX do not mean a better movie.
Reguardless of everybodys postings that are negative, everybody is obviously interested in some way with this or they wouldnt have bothered reading and posting, so hah...
Do you assholes want the news or not? Quit boohooing when some journalist asks Raimi if he'll make another Evil Dead flick, because you wouldn't be happy with any response he would have anyway.
"My Name Is Bruce" actually works as a faux 'Evil Dead' sequel... kinda' like 'Return of the Living Dead' to 'Night of the Living Dead'... I thought it was pretty entertaining, too. As for 'Evil Dead 4', I'd still love to see it but I think Raimi likes his Spider-Man security blanket too much to risk another film that might wind up number two, or God forbid, number three at the box office. Someone else called that growth. I'd call it stagnation, but oh well...
FROGGER:
I'm not annoyed that Raimi is doing other things. You obviously didn't understand my post. I'm annoyed that he keeps jerking fans around about an Evil Dead 4. Either make it or dont. Stop being condescending and actually take the time to interpret someone's post before replying to it.
I believe that Campbell doesn't want to reprise his role. I guess he's hoping for some younger actor to take his place. He has a lot of projects on the burner anyway. I bet the remake will be a hit, but nothing beats the original Evil Dead movies!
