Pascal Laugier Writes B-D Regarding That Pinhead' Make-Up
Thursday, February 5, 2009

The other day we posted some images created by FX artists Gary J. Tunnicliffe, which was his own personal campaign piece to create the new Pinhead in Dimension Films' Hellraiser, which is set to be written and directed by Pascal Laugier. The problem? A bunch of people seem to be confused on what these pictures were - and many seem to think it really is the new Pinhead! Not so... read beyond the break to see what Pascal Laugier had to say to Bloody-Disgusting.

Hello Brad,

I'm more or less forced to write you this message since the supposedly new Pinead photos are confusing people...

The stills of the new Pinhead you published on your site a few days ago have NOTHING TO DO with the official HELLRAISER reboot project I'm preparing.

I know you already made it clear in your article but you know how internet works : these photos being published in various sites without any details or explanation, a lot of fans seem to think that the new Pinhead will look like that. My answer is : NO HE WON'T.

This version of Pinhead came from the vision of Gary J. Tunnicliffe and not mine or my producer's. I never met Gary and although I respect him a lot, I want to be very clear about the fact that my vision of the character will be TOTALLY different.

The new look of Pinhead is a VERY imortant matter to all of us.

Pascal Laugier

some one put up a link for rue morgue which featured an artist rendition of what the new pinhead would look like, and it looked nothing like the pics you guys posted. it all makes sense now. i still liked the new look anyways. that artist rendition looked sick though.

Well there you go some good news, but the Question is now wat will the new Pinhead look like and how long til we find out?

It is crazy that no matter how much you stress it's not official, people still run with it. " oh my god they are gonna use that and destroy the film" Blah blah I think its not a bad thing to start with as a template to build from. There are a lot of good and not so good with those photos. I think what would be cool and again its just me talkin here is if the director and fx guys got together put up some sketches and maybe some make-up test's and allowed the fans to vote on them and see where it goes from there I think that would be cool. Cause like I said before when you already have a visual of what he looks like on film its tough to please everyone and you cant really if pinhead had never been on film before people would have loved these concept pieces. Unfortunatly it's not the case. So I am on the film makers side and wish them the best with this project. All I ask is that the story is solid, dark, scary, and very character driven. The rest will fall into place.

hah, i feel stupid. re read the first article in which it is clearly stated," It should be clear that this is NOT the new Pinhead as of this writing." i will admit i missed that sentence and went straight to the pics.

i got a feeling it's gonna look worse than that one.

Pascal you rock. : ) what sucks about those pics being put out everywhere is that they could thwart the new movie from being imaginative and inspired, and scare a gifted director away from the project.

The first article basically said it was an old, discarded concept, they merely wanted opinions on it for the newer ones. If its like anything else, there's going to be about 50 different designs before deciding on something.

Let,s give the filmmaker a chance and see what he does with this property.HELLRAISER is a classic. But given that JASON,MICHAEL,LEATHERFACE,AND SOON TO BE FREDDY ARE BEING REMADE. WHY NOT PINHEAD AS LONG ITS NOT PG13.I SAY REMAKE'EM ALL IF THATS WHAT IT TAKES TO GET HORROR MOVIES MADE.

I say bring Doug Bradley BACK....as well as butterball and the rest....Why the fuck not? We don't need a re-imagining.....we need a more current and gruesome montage of blood-curdling grue.

The good news is that Laugier either reads BD or has someone notify him of what goes on. I knew this was a renegade act, but it was a good thing that most people were confused in thinking it was real. It caused a cryout from dedicated fans that obviously caught Laugier's attention. Hopefully, this will let us have an influence on what happens. *****Laugier, please take the Christophe Gans approach to Hellraiser as he did to Silent Hill. Stay true to what captivated original fans. Just don't change the faces of our icons, especially Pinhead and the Chatterer. I am all for the white priest garbs of Pinhead. Accentuate features, don't reimagine them.

I'm glad to hear that this is not the new look. I just hope the new look, if they do one, will look a lot better.

Go for a slight redesign on the old one. Keep it elegant and slightly androgynous.

I do not believe pinheads design needs to be changed... Slightly, nothing major. maybe some color changes or something.

A new Hellraiser is a very big deal almost but not as big as next weeks Friday the 13th. Pinhead needs to be more sadistic but with a touch of human compassion since he was a human and not bad before the box, unlike Freddy who in his human form was insane. And the cenobites need to be even better then before. This could be a great flick with a good script and f/x. A must have is Doug Bradley, and Clive must be involved. Without that then you can forget the box office money that I know Friday will bring in next Friday. I am willing to bet my big toe that Friday will be record breaking on opening weekend and will topple all past efforts to bring our favorite killer back to life in the past.

i'm definitely with those who want a design closer to what the Ceonobites were in the novella. Something grotesque and shocking, but also artful and sensuous. i sort of dig the idea of white priest robes, also.

Well thank god for that... Thats at least one bullet dodged, for once. Though god knows, with the way hollywood is, another bullet could very well be headed straight for our face.
