Rob Zombie Confirms Strode's Return, No Loomis?

We broke the news here weeks ago that Scout Taylor-Compton will be returning in H2 as Laurie Strode and that Malcolm McDowell will return as Dr. Sam Loomis. In a new interview with Rob Zombie, he confirms our report and explains what type of role Compton's character will have in the sequel to his remake of HALLOWEEN, which hits theaters August 28th.

After surviving the attack of her brother, Laurie is now a mess as Zombie explains, "now she’s not the happy-go-lucky girl, now she’s very fucked up famous person, trying to make sense of this," he tells Icons of Fright.

"She hasn’t seen the script yet, so she’s not sure what’s happening. But I put a lot of good stuff into her character. It’s a real kick-ass film."

Zombie continues talking about where the film picks up. "It takes place over some time, but it starts that night and then essentially, I mean… the first one, Laurie has no idea what just happened. But then she wakes up the next day and someone’s going, “Oh by the way, your parents are dead. All your friends are dead. And actually, your brother is uh, Charles Manson.” (Laughs) You know? “How do you feel about that?” See what I mean?"

In the official press release the synopsis explained that the new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted.

As for Malcolm McDowell returning as Dr. Sam Loomis, Zombie explains that his deal isn't signed yet (even though we've been told he's already secured for three films), but he'll most likely return.

"Most likely. It’s one of those things… I don’t know who’s back until everyone’s signs their deal! (Laughs) You never know what’s going to happen. I mean, me and Malcolm… Malcolm’s a wonderful guy, and we’re still good friends through this whole thing. We talk about it all the time. I’m pretty sure Malcolm is going to be back. But you never know."

Is there a way to type a raspberry sound? I agree with Jerkofwonder, when's Hollywood going to stop making sequels to movies nobody likes?

I think we would like Halloween more if Platinum Dunes had gotten their hands on it like Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I love those guys. They stay true to the original but add their own fresh take on it. I guess Rob did the same, I just don't care for his style and vision all that much. Maybe the second one will outshine the first? At least there won't be an hour of backstory before we get to the present! That was part of the problem, it ran too long and focused on the backstory too much. And way too many characters that weren't developed properly.

Get over it. EVERYONE knew this movie was coming, so stick to the story and facts people ! EVERYONE DID NOT HATE RZ"S MOVIE? What are you talking about ? Would there be a sequel if it bombed ? C'mon, be smart. I'm not saying RZ's version was great because it wasn't, but it also was not that bad and that's just MY opinion, your entitled to yours. I'm sure they will explain how and why Loomis survived. If you watch the movie at the end, it's easy to see that Loomis may not have sustained a fatal injury and also that Laurie did not shoot Michael in the face or head. Yes , I saw all the blood, but they could explain it so it makes some sense. So if you already hate it without seeing it, leave it be and don't.

Want to read an absolutely, empirically, categorically inaccurate statement? Try "fricken everybody hated his Halloween". Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN grossed over $50 mil at the US box office, has done very brisk sales on DVD and Blu-Ray in multiple releases, and is considered by many outside of fanboy and journalistic circles to be the best entry in the franchise since the original. Even on this site, you'll find a fair number of folks who enjoyed the film - some enough to write positive reviews and buy the DVD(s), some just enough to be willing to give the sequel a chance. Imagine what a wonderful, tolerant, inclusive world it would be if some folks stopped believing that "I hated it" or "the 25 people I know hated it" or even "the 10 people whose reviews I've read hated it" is the same thing as "everyone hated it".

As for Loomis surviving, Donald Pleasance's Loomis survived a point blank gas explosion with just a little facial scar in the earlier series. Not hard to imagine this Loomis walking away from his "fate" in the last film.

the interview above rob says there is not going to be flashbacks so not sure if sheri and deag will be back and loomis is still alive at the end of the directors cut because he grabs michaels leg to try to stop him but any way theres nothing saying hes dead in the the theater version so i hope he comes back FO SHo!

You realize more than half of that 50 million was made opening weekend? It dropped by over 60% after that. What does that tell you? And I am not a fanboy, all the Halloween movies are boring. This one was just hilariously bad.

Actually, in director's cut, it is made clear that Loomis is alive, though it is not made clear in the theatrical one. As others have observed, just because you were not satisfied does not mean "everybody" hated it. When you grow up, you may learn that yours is not the only perspective in the universe. People seem to react in a negative way to the fact that, unlike Platinum Dunes, perhaps, Zombie likes to challenge the audience by going in directions that were not anticipated. The greats from earlier decades did just that; now a "by rote" approach is to only way to avoid everybody crying about being let down. By the way, Zombie also states that there will be no flashbacks, though there may be some different & "weird" methods used to bring back certain characters. Sit back & enjoy. We don't really know how to make movies; he does.

Typo: above comment should read "by rote approach is the only way" not "to only way". Sorry for finger failure.

"Oh great. More crap. Does Zombie not realize that fricken everybody hated his Halloween movie? And I usually like remakes. =( " No, I doubt he realized this, as its not true. I'm not saying I liked it or anything, I just hate it when someone thinks their opinion represents the masses.

first of all people should stop saying "everyone hated rob's movie" because i loved it. He made michael myers, a played out horror cliche scary again. secondly for the dumb ass the wrote dr. loomis died. what fuckin movie did you watch? don't bash something unless you know what your talking about, otherwise you just look stupid and it gives more credibility to the movie your bashing

halloween9movie, did you watch the unrated directors cut?...Loomis is alive.

JaeCon85

1 - RZ's Halloween grossed $78,469,884 worldwide. So, obviously some of those people who "hate" it, aren't being too truthful. 2 - Loomis didn't die. 3 - Not saying Zombie was the best thing for the reboot, but if Platinum Dunes got ahold of it, it would be shit. F13 remake has the exact same look and feel that the TCM remake had. So would Halloween, if they got their hands on it... stupid fucking idea! End of discussion.

So, Strode becomes a sensation due to her ordeal? Now's the time for Rob to put her and Michael on a Jerry Springer-type show full of more rednecks than you can shake a Miller Lite at. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

McDowell is "secured" for 3 films? I hope that's a rumor... Not that I don't like McDowell, but how many more Halloweens do there need to be?

"Oh great. More crap. Does Zombie not realize that fricken everybody hated his Halloween movie? And I usually like remakes. =( " Umm to tell you teh truth i thought RZ did an awesome job on the movie and everyone i know that seen it loved it as well, 2009 is gonna be a good year for Horror Movies

It sounds like the script for this turkey isn't done yet, but it's about to start shooting and has an August release date. Fast track piece of crap anyone?

Scout sucked in the first one, but what can you expect when Rob Zombie writes your role. This movie will just be more white-trash characters with filthy mouths who talk about stupid crap until they're killed. The deaths of the characters are the only redeeming qualities of his movies.

I maintain that I enjoyed the first RZ Halloween flick, and am looking forward to this one. I hope that it's not as bad as a rush job would indicate, though.... crossing my fingers.

Pike
5:43pm, January 22, 2009

You know, in terms of the "fast-tracked rush job" people seem to fear, this was the same timetable as the previous one. As to the never-ending proclamations of "white trash" elements who use profanity, the only character who really fits this whole motif is Deborah's boorish boyfriend. People sometimes use profanity, especially in movies made for adults. I hope you sensitive folks never watch a film by David Mamet or Martin Scorsese.

You know what I think that Rob Zombie needs to keep going in a new direction with his Halloween movies the problem is he is taking over a film franchise from someone else and the idea that he tried to to a prequil and a remake / reinterpritation of John Carpenters carpenters work. The last Halloween was hard to watch becouse he is mixed up becouse he is trying to create a new movie as well as pay tribute to the original movie. Its hard to say weather this movie will be any better or worse then his first Halloween movie. At least its better then Halloween Reserection.
