If you click on over to BDTV or Apple.com (to watch in HD) you can watch the first trailer for Universal Pictures' The Last House on the Left, the highly anticipated remake to the classic Wes Craven film that kicked off his career. In addition, beyond the break you'll find three new stills! In the film directed by Dennis Iliadis, John and Emma Collingwood are on vacation at their lakeshore house when, by a bizarre twist of fate, they give shelter to the sociopaths who have just assaulted and nearly killed their daughter. Upon discovering the truth, they exact a chilling revenge on her attackers... Also, the official website has now been launched. No date has been announced yet, although a "spring" release is promised. What did you guys think of the trailer?
The casting for that fucking LHOTL rip-off "CHAOS" was even better than this remake! What the fuck's up with Krug and Sadie? Did the filmmakers/studio seriously believe that people would find them intimidating? I can only imagine what's going to happen to SUSPIRIA when it gets remade.....
tylerdq14. You should see the original first. It has one of the most brutal scenes ever on film. This actually looked like it could be alright or atleast entertaining. I'll for sure check it out. I did not care for the Guns n Roses track either.
dude! is that the guy from Ghost? AHahha
i cant watch the trailer here at work right now, but just from the plot and the stills im excited.
I never did see the original. i suck i know.

Amazing trailer! Scared the shit out of me with that first BANG in the beggining!
That last bit with the microwave gave me a bit of a shock as well haha!
I think it looks pretty good. I'm glad to see Tony Goldwyn in a role like this. He needs to work more. I don't mind this remake. The guy who plays Krug is an awesome actor who was in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. He looks totally different here. I can't wait.
Now, why would I see this if I saw the original and just saw the whole remake in 2 minutes? Whoever cut that trailer should lose their job. It showed way too much.
And again, I'm not a purist who hates remakes. I was looking forward to this since the original is brutal yet flawed. But damn, could you leave some shit out of the trailer for our surprise?
ewww this looks shitty. and what's up with the trailer- how can the company tell us the movie is scary if the trailer isn't scary at all....i wont lose any sleep if I miss this one...
I love the original and was even looking forward to the second remake. But after watching the trailer with its terrible music and oh so typical modern horror blah, I'll take the asking price of admission and buy some Captain Crunch instead.
In this trailer they seem to make a HUGE miss and it looks stupid, it won't amount anything to the original. This is just gonna b another crappy remake no doubt about it, the microwave looks retarded and you really can't remake a movie from the VIDEO NASTIES LIST AND THINK IT WILL BE GOOD, it will b like watching the movie cut or something, but with worse filmaking.
You people that are crying like little girls, saying "The original was so much better! This is gonna be like watching a cut version of the original!" ... Uh, have you seen the original? I have. It wasn't very gory. It was a good movie in 1972. The awful clothing and white-fros haven't aged very well.
Let the remake happen. I know it's hard, hating remakes is about as popular of a trend as remaking everything... but just relax. Your grainy, jive horror movie from the 70's isn't going anywhere.
pointless. there's no other word for this.
and before it's brought up; can we please but a moratorium on the whole "bumbling cops" complaint already? if that minor subplot was enough for you to dismiss the power of that film, than really your opinion is baseless and irrational. but i digress.
i can understand people not liking the original film; it's a messy lo-fi product of its time, so to younger viewers who believe they have seen it all, Craven's film seems cheap, irrelevant, and dated. Personally i think it's a benchmark of horror, cause without "LHTL" we probably would not have had "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and the rest that came after that. Whether you hate the movie or not, it is a vital piece of genre film history.... there is no disputing that. you can try, but you'll be wrong.
that being said, while i can understand people not liking the original, i can't understand people being excited over the remake of a movie they hated to begin with. i mean, it's the same damn movie. i can only assume it's some superficial thing, like the remake looks more pro, has better looking women, etc, and that's what kept them from appreciating the original. that's what is so maddening about all this particular remake... it's total sanitary film making. the original film's look and atmosphere matched the brutality and ugliness of the material pound for pound. This however is all slicked out, dressed up, and packed with self-consciously "stylish" music video tricks that don't serve to compliment the material, but to placate a crowd that isn't normally into these kind of films.
do not want.
Looks very slick but the original is one of the original video nasties where the girls were actually humiliated, raped and killed. I'd rather stick the that one and not bother with this watered down version.
I'm happy with the trailer I'm expecting the rape of both girls and the main girl's friend being killed. So I'm technically happy I think that the main girl might die after word and then they will be stuck in the same way they were in the original
I am looking forward to this. I liked the story of the original and the way the two girls were humiliated and brutalized. But let's be real, although ground breaking for the genre it was not a great movie by a long shot. The acting was atrocious and the idiot cops and chicken lady never helped. However, from the kidnapping to the murders it was truly disturbing and violent and thats why I do like the film. For those who think they saw the entire movies in two minutes, I think you feel that way because you already know the story. It seems to be a 2 minute flick but I think there is alot more to this movie than you might think. Give it a chance. It's like the F13 remake, why would they remake the first one? Everyone knows Mrs. Voorhees was the killer so would it not be redundent to remake the original? The reason the original was so scary was the surprise twist. Anyway the trailer was great and I think they did not show us anything we did not already know. Appearences are not everything. Maybe this cast will give us the sinister brutality we are all dying for. Crazy comes in all shapes and sizes.
Oh and one more thing, I thought the GnR cover was a great song choice compared to the happy, whimsical, hippy crap that was in the original that really came off out of place.
Ummmmmmm......I don't know know what to think. I mean it looked pretty good, but it was missing something. It didn't look very disturbing from the trailer, but you know what, that just mite be because they didn't show much. I'm just hoping it has that edge that the original had, even though it won't reach its level. The original was just a classic, I hope its good though.
I wasn't sure what to expect seeing as I didn't think the original looked like anything special and I was hoping this wouldn't be a low quality, cheap and violent cash in but the trailer was fantastic! Definitely looks like quite a deep horror flick with drama elements and actually great cinematography and good acting. Looking forward to this.
I'm probably just speaking for myself here, but I thought it looked awesome. I don't know what it is about remakes of Wes Craven movies, but they all seem to be getting better. I had just seen the original Last House on the Left about two weeks ago and I admit that, while it wasn't the best movie out there, it was still kind of shocking, slightly. The original Hills Have Eyes never impressed me much, but the remake was really good in my opinion, and I have similar feelings about this movie after watching that preview. Yeah, ok, so I like original movies and most remakes. There, I said it.
i think it looks sick. and the words they use in the trailer to describe what going to happen in the movie are really slick also, looks like i might actually care for some characters in this movie
DBLOCK. Nice call. I forgot about the horrible hippy folk music in the original. Quite possibly the worst music from a horror movie. Does anybody remember the shitty music that plays at the end of the original MY BLOODY VALENTINE? LOL.
To Man Behind the Sun Chips:
You cant ignore the bumbling cops aspect of the film. Its not like it slipped in by accident. Wes wanted to make a point that he thought was ket to his theme. The problem is it completely throws off the tone, mood, and interupts and detracts away from the films suspense. If Wes released that now, he'd be called an amateur with a BDSM fetish. Putting in the cops scenes with the terrible music is a very amateur move and it displayed, at that time, Wes' lack of understanding on how to make a truly great horror film.
You can shout, "But it was Groundbreaking!" till you puke coat hangers but so was the XFL...just because its groundbreaking doesnt make it a masterpiece. His original paved the way for much more superior films (TCM for one) and that I thank him for. I, for one, am looking forward to the remake...also cause Jack Mccall from Deadwood is in it.
The original had its problems, but it still has its own strange charm and originality about it. Something foreign to movies these days. I'm at work so I can't see the trailer. How many slooooooow scenes are there w/o bg music followed by a quick flash of something and a scream?
The original LHOTL music was written for the movie by David Hess(Krug). If you listen to the lyrics in those songs he's actually singing about shit that happens in the movie. Just putting that info out there for the people who said they don't like the original soundtrack.
This looks like it's going to be fierce. And to the 'Last House remake' naysayers, watch it again. The roughness of the original works against it more than it works in its favor. The cop subplots, shitty editing, bad score, the chicken lady with three teeth? Damn. It looks like the cop subplot has been cut out of the remake altogether and thank god, Craven's 'contempt for the police' bit has always been sort of annoying.
ALSO, the '72 Last House on the Left was a remake to begin with. Ever heard of Ingmar Bergmann's "The Virgin Spring"? That was Craven's source material for Last House, look into it. It's the planned remakes of films like "Poltergeist" and "NOES" that break my heart a little, because those were great from the start, but THIS ONE was screaming for a re-remake.
The casting looks pretty awesome, although I'm assuming the "criminal son" character isn't a drug addict. If he is, boo. The only criminal that looks truly menacing is Sadie. Here's hoping they don't polish it up TOO much.
Yeah, the original is a classic in its own right, I don't think there is a more gratifying way to end a horror film than the way this one does. judging by the ratings stamp, warning of brutal violence and a rape, etc, it looks like they're sticking to the original story and such. I'm SOOO feeling the song, that's some awesome juxtaposition. That sort of music choice works, as opposed to singing about what we're seeing, which is a bit redundant and RETARDED.
Ok, I didn't like the original at all...but am I the only one insanely pissed that the chick doesn't...uh...you know, die!? That was kinda the whole fucking point no? What are they getting revenge for? The attempted rape and murder of their daughter? I guess, that seems like it makes the parents more of the villains. I mean. I know that was kind of the point of the original, but at least there the actions were a bit more justified...No Victory
It looks okay, I guess. Nice touch with the G'N'R cover. It would have been better if it had a cover of "Wait For The Rain" though, to pay tribute to the music of the original, which was awesome! I don't care too much for the naysayers of the original film though. And what about the "It's only a movie..." tagline. They should market it like that. But anyway, am I the only one who thinks the whole "microwave" thing is a tad ridiculous. But whatever, it still might be good.
Viking, maybe she does die after she makes it home, we do not know this yet. Manikscribe, RIGHT ON! My sentiments exactly! Stuntgirlstef, I got that, thank you. What I meant was the music, NOT the lyrics. Happy melodies do not belong in horror. Period. Thats like having Rainbow Connection as the theme for A Nightmare on Elm street for christ sake.
so what, it's the same but watered down? yeah, there will probably be more gore fx but that usually just makes it less creepy. I don't think I'll bother for this one. rather buy the original again.
There's no way I'm paying to see this movie. Judging by the trailer alone which reveals act 1, 2 and 3 in detail it looks boring and has completely lost the feel of brutality and sense of realism the original had achieved. I'd rather watch other remakes than this one, to me LHOL is impossible to remake well because it was reflective of it's time and was a landmark film.
Doesn't look TOO bad. Still skeptical on how raw they keep it. The original is still classic. However, I would much rather have some changes in a 'remake' then to just make the SAME damn film over again. I don't mind 'remakes' as long as one is able to put somewhat a different spin on everything. (I.E. "Dawn of The Dead" & "Assault On Precinct 13") However, doesn't look like the changes here are for the better. Looks like they're catering to the 'kool-aid' drinking masses again. Wonderful...
I am obsessed with this trailer. Must've seen it like 6 times already, lol. I think this movie looks great. Never seen the original but as you can tell, big Wes Craven fan.
I found the original slow-paced but good. The first pic is interesting, a real eye-getter.
