AFM '08: Better Quality Art and Stills From Romero's '...of the Dead'
Monday, November 10, 2008

We brought you a first look at the art and an image from George A. Romero's currently untitled ...of the Dead zombie film, now a better quality version of the sales art, along with three more stills have found their way online. The plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.

This will be horrible

JohnnyRotten, i have to agree w/ you. this is clearly Romero's stance on the 'right to die' issue (and we remember how NOT subtle he was in his 'if it's not on film, it doesn't exist' social commentary in DIARY). the zombies looks (going by these pics) lousy and the plot sounds laughable. it ludicrous that a whole island/town "can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones". are you fucking kidding me!?! that being said, i really hope Romero can pull this off, but i'm not at all holding my breath.

AAAAAAAH, after diary of the dead, I don't think I will be attempting to see this any time soon. I am no veteran as far as Romero films go, and all I ever hear is positivity about the man's talent. But Diary of the Dead was probably the worst zombie film I have seen that was not supposed to be funny. In fact, I mostly laughed through that one. I would only recommend it to anyone who likes cheesy zombie movies with no tension and poor acting. This one looks no better.

An island, especially one isolated from the outside world by an event as huge as the return of the dead, offers little hope for escape. As the opening sequence of DAWN demonstrated, bad things happen when people can't seperate emotional and rational thought in a Dead Return To Eat The Living situation. The zombies here are freshly dead and returned, thats why they aren't maybe as prosthetically impressive as some would like. I trust that the guy who invented the fucking genre will do right by us again.

tszilla, i agree that the plot (as YOU phrased it) sounds AWESOME and doable, but i have some major doubt as to whether or not Romero can pull off the nuances and the social commentary (the 'right to die' commentary) properly WITHOUT beating it over our heads like he did in DIARY (the 'if it's not on film, then it doesn't exist' theme). DIARY was atrocious. one of the worst zombie movies i've ever seen. i HOPE and pray that he does an awesome job with THIS movie. i really do.

alot of people say diary of the dead sucked donkey balls, but i thought it was a good zombie movie. compared to his other "...of the dead movies", excluding land of, yes diary of the dead did suck. it was still a good movie. i am looking forward to as many "...of the dead" movies as the man can put out.

Is this actually called "...Of The Dead"? Because if it is, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! So lame. And I agree with the other, Romero just may not have what it takes anymore. "Diary" was just dull.

SO it's like that one scene in Night of the Living Dead, with the father and his daughter. . . just the WHOLE MOVIE?? Hasn't every zombie movie explored this idea???

Yawn...of the Dead. They're not dead - just sleepwalking and hungry.

I'm ashamed that so many horror fans are dissing the hell out of this movie and saying how terrible it's gonna be when all we have to go by (so far) is a vague plot and a couple bad quality images. Yeah, Diary of the Dead wasn't great, but it served its purpose and was at least fun to watch. I still have faith in Romero, no matter what the turncoats say about him.

Diary is fing no love at all. I didn't mind it. After reading ALL the neagativity and hatred, i was expecting the WORST MOVIE EVER MADE! Ha ha, goes to show, never listen to anyone elses comments. I formed my own opinion, and it is this, by no means a great zombie flick, nor Romero's best work, it does not deserve the hate it is getting. IT was an entertaining zombie romp as far as i was concerned. A lot better than other crap out there. And I look forward to his next outtings. Romero is still one of my faves.

If you guys are writing off Romero because one movie he made wasn't up to par with the rest, you guys shouldn't even be here. No shit this isn't gonna be as good as Night or Dawn, but I'm sure he'll make something good of this project.

ROMERO STOP WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD!!! Even though your past that point now since Diary sucked such ass.

When I saw Night and Dawn for the first time in 1979, Romero became a god to me. I saw Day and wondered why the god would punish us so badly with a putrid pile of celluloid shite. I now see Day as a work of art, and Diary as the putrid shite.I guess what I'm saying is time is a great healer, so shut ya fackin' moanin' and let the man work his magic again.

It amazes me how people can so easily dismiss such a legend of filmmaking after he creates ONE film that people don't like.

I'm just sick of zombie films that do NOTHING differently than the last zombie film. Being someone who loves zombies, it's just ridiculously disappointing to me to see the same exact zombie movie released a hundred times + with different titles. What made 29 Weeks Later different than Dawn of the Dead (remake), other than a different setting? Nothing. You've seen on zombie movie, you've seen them all. If someone were to make a zombie movie that was honestly different from the rest, I'm in, but if Romero is just releasing yet another tired, boring "virus, zombies, end" movie, forget it. There is simply no point.

The backlash against Romero is absolutely ridiculous. Can't you at least WAIT until the fucking thing comes out before you start with the "this will be horrible" bullshit? When did everyone become a bunch of jaded assholes?

Jacques, 28 (NOT 29) Weeks Later and the DAWN remake are EXCELLENT. what do YOU want the zombie movies to be about, since you want them to be different and NOT the "same exact zombie movie released a hundred times"

Doclector

I like the synopsis. Of course some would find it hard to kill loved ones, it's a zombie film tradition, but I think the plot is genius, the rebel's quest to get back to the island will undoubtably leave plenty of room for thrills, and the part about the zombies being chained up and the living pretending everything's normal sounds like pitch-black comedy gold. And BTW, Diary was good. Not as good as his older films, but better than land, and very tense. Sure, the whole blari witch handheld camera thing's been overdone recently, but can we really pan it just because it came out at the begginning of that trend's revival? I don't think so.

Time for George to move on. He is wrecking the movie genre he created in the 1960s. Diary was an absolute mess. Land wasn't much better. George needs to go back to his roots with a "Dawn" type of movie. No more then 4 main characters.

Texican666

djblack1313, there is no arguing with jacques, he likes remakes, sequels and enjoys judging books by their covers. the haters will hate.

Texican666

the sad part is you have people who love to complain about these horror movies while browsing through a horror website. i wouldnt go to website of drama movies and hate on them, cause i dont like drama movies in the first place. and isnt it ironic, dont you think.
