Director George A. Romero has a very special Halloween treat for you guys... beyond the break you'll find the first ever action-packed image from Romero's latest "OF THE DEAD" zombie pic, which features your first look at one of the new zombies. The pic involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. Read on for a look and watch for more news soon.
It sounds very reminiscent of Stephen king's "Home Delivery", which was in the 1989 zombie anthology Book Of The Dead and again in Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Great story-hopefully Romero nicks some cool stuff from it.
I dont like the idea of it being an island it sounds to much like a Fulci thing. Huge fan so I know I will like it anyway. But Romero if you read this then how about this for your next concept. Hunting buddies come back from a week at there cabin and everything that was normal is now chaos ridden with zombies. Deer rifles in hand they kick some zombie butt. And film in our home state of PA this time.
why bother complaining about the movie being made, is that going to change the fact it's being made, perhaps if you set bitching aside and voice things that actually could matter like suggestions, it might make for a better film when you finally get to see it, you know that's usually the point when you critize stuff.
I just finished watching "Dead Set" and it rocked! Romero's latest zombie movies were terrible. When English TV mini series make Romero's zombies look dated and stale that means that he should give up and try something else...
Romero's continuing the tradition until he himself becomes one of those walking dead (which at his late 60's seems closer with each passing year) is noble. In a world full of wannabe filmmakers just rehashing old ideas trying to make them new again, at least someone like Romero is giving "sequels" to them instead trying to turn back the clock and rewriting history. You're doing the right thing, George.
I wasn't all too thrilled with Diary (it's the only Dead movie from Romero where the social commentary felt hamfisted...) but I will give this one a chance. However, I can't help wonder if this is somewhat of a throwback to his buddy Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2?
Romero's one of the few people still making timely and politically relevant 'message movies'. Enough said. We don't get enough of that these days, and, as a result, most modern pics are a mere trifle that will be forgotten long before Romero's films fade from our collective memory. The man has a vision and he continues to make challenging films because he actually has something to say. I'm hard pressed to think of many other modern horror directors who even bother themselves with such concerns. Romero rules, now and forever, screw the competition!
Poor George....he doesn't know when to quit. I guess if George Lucas could keep putting out that clone crap, why can't "our" George.
The magic is gone George, the magic is gone.
-Peace
anything better than Diary would be a step up. i have never been more disappointed in a zombie movie than that piece of garbage so my hopes are pretty low for this one...
Diary of the Dead was awful. Easily one of the worst movies I've seen this year, right behind Feast 2. But hey, this concept actually sounds interesting and kind've makes me think of Zombi 2, so hey, I'll watch it.
Let it die George. Land sucked. Diary sucked. I liked Bruiser, why not make stuff like that? I think George's problem is that he wants a message in his films, but he's not good at subtlety. It worked in Dawn best because of it's campy-ness, but even by Day(which i love) it was starting to come out hokey. Look at Land and you'll see that the biggest issue(other than animated blood) is the forced message.(oh yeah, and John Leguizano) (sp?)
It seems that George has been treading the same old ground lately. I'd like to see hime step into another subgenre than just zombie movies. Granted, versitility is not his strong suit, but his last outing (Diary ...) was limp. Land of the Dead was also a yawner. It reminds me of those sports figures who don't retire when they should.
I would really like to see George come up with a shocker, but I'm afraid of another schlocker.
Can't wait. also can't believe how many people don"t like diary it was indy as fuck had a great message some awesome kills. hell that is everything you look for in a zombie flick. o well to each their own.
I can't wait...I always have faith in a new Romero project. They don't always pay off, but they're usually better than 90% of the shitty "horror" movies that come out that year...
Well he improved impressively between the horrible horrible HORRIBLE Land of the Dead and the pretty decent (although useless and terrible use of CGI) Diary of the Dead... so following that formula, this "island of the dead" should be pretty good? no? heeeres hoping so...
George seriously needs to take some steps back. He has been progressively getting worse over the past few movies and I'd rather see him burn out than fade away. I'd like to see something more Resident Evil (game, not movie) from George. We don't need political statements in our movies, especially when they are forced. I would like to see him revisit the Fulci days, but he would never be able to pull off what Zombi did... the greatest Zombie flick of all time.
I will always look forward to any Romero movie, he's old school and reminds us that horror movies are an important genre and not just fodder for Michael Bay to eff up.
Slightly disappointed with Diary. The characters were pretty forgetable and annoying but I guess this was what he was aiming for. Hopefully this one will be better.
I'm a Romero Zombie fan and this does nothing but excite me. While Diary has its flaws this looks ten times better or looks to be anyway. MORE ZOMBIES!!!!
They need a good zombie movie, with the origins of how they became zombies etc. The real Zombie virus etc. Id have to say SHAUN of the dead is the best zombie movie, and its a comedy. Thats pretty sad from a certain point of view, so hopefully this one will be good.
trizout
The hunters coming from a cbin to a zombie infested town with rifles in hand was alresdy fone. It was one of he stories out of the federal zombie task force stories.
And diary of the dead has to be one of the worst zombie movies of all time.
trizout its being filmed in Canada. Im a huge Romero fan and he's never let me down before (thats right, i loved Diary and Land) and this will be great too. Im pumped
