UPDATE: MGM Takes 'The Amityville Horror' Online

Very important update can be found here: I hope you're sitting down for this little gem of a scoop... MGM is currently out to writers for a new AMITYVILLE HORROR film. The franchise will continue on as a direct-to-disc release, with more than one sequel planned. But here's the kicker, MGM wants the story to be focused around multimedia and "the internet" (I'm not kidding, how lame is that?). Haven't these 'effin suits learned anything from THE MANGLER 2.0, STRANGELAND, CRY WOLF, STAY ALIVE, SCREAM 3, PULSE, FEAR DOT COM, among others? What do you guys think they should do with the next AMITYVILLE HORROR? For those of you who don't know, in the original '70s film, which is based on "supposed" true events, newlyweds move into a house where a murder was committed, and experience strange manifestations which drive them away.

Yeah, I like Strangeland too, but it's still a pretty bad movie.

Didn't they learn from ANY of the previous Amityville sequels? One of the final DTV releases was called "Amityville: DOLLHOUSE"! I'm serious. They should know this is not the correct path to take.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but how does Scream 3 fit into that list?

IMO this concept may very well work. P.e. 1) Current owner knows of myth and sells some old Amityville stuff on Ebay. This stuff of course is haunted. 2) Some Supernatural-freaks camp on the, now deserted, Amityville grounds in order to film some ghosts and have a camcorder that uploads all the material on a PPV-webpage. Of course the videos are haunted and viewers get unwanted visitors. 3) The new owner (unaware of the place infamous past) of the Amityville mansion turns the place into an Internet Cafe. But just before the grand opening strange things start to happen. I could go on...

Internet's been done and it just doesn't work. Not very scary at all. Kinda stupid to dump more money into this Amityville crap, but if they must... Have a young priest move in to test his faith. His troubled past comes back to haunt him in the form of demons and spirits. Simple story with cool special effects and you have a hot rental. AMITYVILLE: War of Faith. Release date pending...

Wow,no joke I love the original 3 Amityville films....however this idea is just putrid! C'mon producers & execs, think of something with more meat than a haunting occuring over the FRIGGIN' INTERNET!!! Pulse sucked, plain & simple. Not a good invested idea.

I don't know, I haven't seen them all, but to me, The Amityville Horror of 2005 was that year's best horror film. Katch'em, Kill'em.

HATED Strangeland but I liked Cry_Wolf...Haven't there already been sequels, DTV sequels, and a remake? This has no potential, even on Blockbuster shelves. It would've been smart to follow up the release of the remake, but it's been almost 4 years since it was released...Why now? If I really wanted to shit on a film and make money, I'd make a theatrical sequel and follow that up with DTV installments since the franchise will be hot again...

What was wrong with Cry_Wolf?!

I am sure this will suck, simply because it is a cash-in from the start. However, that does not mean technology and ghosts can't mix. I am still waiting for a great techno-supernatural horror. So many have had great elements. Pulse and fear-dot-com weren't great movies, but they had a unique and creepy atmosphere that I long to see in a really great movie. Somebody, please, step up to the plate.

They should do a prequel about the Defeos or whatever their name was. That would be interesting and not involve multimedia or any of that shit. But whatever, the remake was great in my opinion, but this is just gonna suck ass.

I'm not surprised they're doing this. I wonder if they'll be sequels to the original or the 2005 remake.

God, no! Amityville: Internet Saga will be 50 year old execs trying to 'write' a horror movie for 16 year olds based on a twenty year old property! (The Amityville franchise property, not the actual Amityville property in NY) I'm all for new horror coming out, but damn...good for laughs maybe? House 2?

Jmacgrath had the best idea. Not sure about the CryWolf reference, I thought it was a successful original movie. Why do direct to disc sequels? Really, why? It is a waste of time and money! There is absolutely nothing scary about technology. All attempts at this were completely weak and ridiculous. Pulse? One missed call? Fear.com? All not scary, all were just terrible. What a way to ruin one of the few successful remakes. Disappointing.

The newest owners of the infamous house are haunted by porn site pop-ups and spam e-mails from beyond the grave. Their only hope is a member of the Best Buy Geek Squad who has seen The Exorcist 1000 times. Yeah, that's as scary as any internet themed horror movie so far...

one person says they don't like a movie, and the first comment on here is "fuck you blah blah blah movie was good" it's an opinion. and i agree, most suites are retarded inbred monkeys. it'll flop.

Man, if the state of films is this bad NOW... I'd hate to think about how bad it will be in 5-10 years. I see a SAW remake in the future....

I like tszilla's idea. lol That would be hilarious. Anyway, I'm not against it. If it really looks that bad I just wont watch it. But why is Cry_Wolf on the list of bad movies? That was pretty original. BTW, Lindy Booth is hot. I would watch (almost) anything with her in it.
