A Letter From the Editor RE: 'Meat Train', Help Save Horror!

UPDATE: Theater listing is growing, SOME tickets are available online The other day we reported that Lionsgate's The Midnight Meat Train (review) was going to make its first stop in cheapy $1 theaters, today were getting behind a fallen brother to help prove a point - that horror fans won't go down without a fight! Lionsgate called us immediately following the news post, and we made dozens of phone calls over the past 24 hours... what we learned is that there is a way to help! Inside you'll find out how to take on an empire with the click of a single button...

UPDATE: I bought ten tickets online, join in. Check times for tomorrow... someone feel free to use these (I don't live there...)

UPDATE: Tickets are difficult to find online...

Update #2: Can someone please tell me how or where I can buy tickets online? This is ridiculous...

UPDATE #3 from BC (and this is crazyyyy) "Only theaters in 40 miles I can find playing it. Here's the weird thing about the Phoenix Adlabs (its not Phoenix, its in Norwalk, which is out past Pomona): it seems to be playing on 2 screens (cool!) but if you click on the theater itself, which will show you all listings for the theater - MMT doesn't show up at all. It has 8 screens, but it will only list 6 movies (MMT, being on 2, would total 8)... it's magic!!! -- so basically all other films are available for online ticketing, just not MMT. Odd, right?

This piece will be updated throughout the day:

SpookyDan and I have spent the good part of the past 24 hours doing interviews and making phone calls trying to figure out how 1+1 doesn't equal 2. Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train was set up to fail, being dumped in $1 discount theaters, with no theater listing provided, with no explanation on how to even buy tickets.

Then Lionsgate calls... they "assure me" that I'm reporting a non-story and that they truly, with all their hearts, want Clive Barker's latest adaptation to succeed.

The math doesn't add up.

Shocking as it may sound, Lionsgate has asked us to get behind the film! But it's obiously a rouse, a cunning attempt to make it look like they care about the movie.

Business is business as this isn't the first time a movie has been dumped into limited theaters. That's fine, and if a studio doesn't want to spend millions of dollars on P+A (marketing), or spends tens of thousands making prints, they are only doing what's best for the stockholders and for their business.

But what we found interesting was that the film is only opening in $1 discount theaters. It says to me that Lionsgate wants the movie to make as little money as possible - for whatever reason that may be, it's weird.

After the numerous interviews and phone calls made, we have made some very important discoveries, but unfortunately no one is willing to speak on record. But what we can do is tell you guys that buying tickets to see THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN will in fact help the filmmakers and Clive Barker. For real this time...

So I say we get behind a fallen brother. We buy tickets (even if we're not able to go, or live in a different State) and attempt to sell out every showing of the film. Lionsgate (so they say) wants the film to succeed, so they should be excited to see fans helping out Clive and his film, right?

We love the film here at Bloody-Disgusting and are 100% getting behind it. Let's make history here together, today, and donate some time and money to proving to the world that horror fans are king and won't take this sh*t any longer.

SO HERE'S WHAT TO DO:

-Go to FANDANGO.com and find a showing of Midnight Meat Train and purchase a ticket (if you can find a theater that actually allows you to purchase online), or two, or ten (I'm going to go buy ten immediately following this post) - they're only a dollar or two, so consider it a donation to horror!

- Also, if you see the film is playing in a different theater than any listed below, please send me an e-mail to submit@bloody-disgusting.com

- Most Important: Spread the word, post it on blogs, talk about it in forums, get your fellow horror fiends to purchase tickets! Show fans where it's playing, let's try and fill these theaters!

-Send an e-mail around to your co-workers ASAP (the day is ending)

-Digg this story (see above), it will help spread the word

-Start with Friday showings as it's getting late already. Hit 'em where it hurts, we sell these suckers out, we win the battle. A big battle.

-Lastly, put MMT TICKETS in the subject line and e-mail your receipts to submit@bloody-disgusting.com, the person who purchases the most tickets will be sent a very special "thank you" package from Bloody-Disgusting

Will be checking this movie out tonight. In fact, this whole fiasco has made me more interested than I might have been otherwise.

5:31pm, August 1, 2008

So you're saying that if every theater sells out, they will let it open wide? You aren't really giving a point on WHY we should do this. To show Lionsgate we care for Clive? No thanks, they have to show us THEY care for Clive.

5:39pm, August 1, 2008

you obviously don't get the point slasher_12. this isn't about supporting Clive, this is about supporting good horror. this movie deserves attention and deserves proper treatment, and doesn't deserve to be thrown away like it is. if you don't want to support it, then don't. i, for one, will support this and hope it succeeds in every way it can.

HorrorGirl26
5:40pm, August 1, 2008

that is sooo dumb.. there used to be a dolloar movie theatre here in sacramento and they closed it down!! so now i cant even see the movie!!! i hate the movies at times!!

slasher_12
5:40pm, August 1, 2008

I do want to support it. However, if i do...will people get to see it, meaning will Lionsgate let it open wide? That's what im not getting, and im in Canada.

MrDisgusting
5:42pm, August 1, 2008

Nope, it won't ever open wide... that's only one reason why this needs to be done.

slasher_12
5:43pm, August 1, 2008

Yeah, i just tried to buy tickets, in Beverly Hills, even though im in Canada....and no tickets are available online....Lionsgate probably set that up too.

NUGGY
5:44pm, August 1, 2008

I'm sorry, but I don't get it either. We give the ungrateful studios money and we show them...what? That they'll make money regardless of how they treat us?!

slasher_12
5:45pm, August 1, 2008

I agree Nuggy. But either way, there's nothing we can do...we can't even buy tickets online lol

mybloody_valentine09
6:00pm, August 1, 2008

Ugh, this is so worthless. LionsGate have already made up their mind and they aren't going to do anything for this movie. Buying tickets for the movie that isn't located anywhere to you is pointless (except if one of theaters are located where you live).

horrorguy123
6:04pm, August 1, 2008

Think people are missing the point. This is about showing we THE HORROR FANS have a voice. This was a slap in the fact, we are slapping back. What we do wont be any money to them, its the act 'we did it' that will make the heads turn.

ONLINE TICKETING IS AVAILABLE but for very few theaters! If you go to www.moviefone.com you can do an "unlimited" search from your area code. I put in my area code and searched "unlimited" and came up with 2 or 3 in the Wisconsin area that had online ticketing at $3.75 per ticket + $1 fee.

anaphylaxis1
6:19pm, August 1, 2008

If this works, it's a theater in Washington that's $2 + $1 fee, for tonight's 7:45 show. https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id= 559810547

6:27pm, August 1, 2008

I can't believe this isn't being released wide. I must have seen the trailer for this atleast during five different movies at the theater. It's just stupid to even show previews to audiences across the country and never release it. Really dumb. It might be because the title is retarded.

6:29pm, August 1, 2008

Doesn't this flick take place in NY?? You mean to tell me that Lionsgate isn't opening it up in at least ONE fucking theatre in NY?? This is fucked up beyond all reasoning...I'm a fucking NYC Subway Conductor & I can't see a movie that takes place in my city...At my workplace??? Everyone & I mean EVERYONE at Lionsgate responsible for this travesty should be drawn & quaretered, Only to then have Salt & Vinegar poured on their bloody fucking stumps. Fucking ass-backward miscreants.

For Los Angeles people - the only theater I can find is in Norwalk, which is like 40 miles east of LA proper. The weird thing is, that theater DOES let you buy tix online (through Movietickets), yet MMT is exempt. If you just look at the general listings for that theater, MMT doesn't even show up!!

7:01pm, August 1, 2008

Cinemark Movies 10 (Cathedral City,CA) has tickets available online. Buying tickets will send a message to Lionsgate about the level of interest from horror fans. They're playing politics...dumping a well made, original horror film with a strong pedigree...out of spite because of corporate pettiness. Since we support their films, we deserve better. If the movie sells a lot of tickets in the $1 theaters, they'll realize the money they lost by not giving it at least a platform release.

7:08pm, August 1, 2008

it pisses me off how movies like prom night remake can get this huge release and get all sorts of attention even though it wasnt any good and not really a decent horror movie yet a movie like this that looks so good and is a horror gets no exposure is it just me or is that fucked up??

JGrayland
7:13pm, August 1, 2008

It's not that they will learn that they lost money - they don't care about the money. All they want to do is use MMT (and Repo) as "proof" that no one cares about horror. Even if every show sells out this weekend, it won't make enough to show up on the box office reports. Then they can say "Look, no one showed up", because nothing reports number of tickets sold, only the total gross (and per screen average, which will also be low). The new president is simply a giant tool who wants to mark his territory, which means dumping the movies made under the previous president. It's actually happened to other movies (Jason X, for example) - they are sort of orphaned when a new regime takes over at a studio. But it's just never been this blatantly obvious and just plain malicious. At least New Line gave Jason X a chance; didn't market it much, but put it on a respectable number of screens.

I work in the contracts department of a studio, and can tell you that usually distribution contracts have a clause stating that if a film makes a certain amount theatrically then the distributor is required to pay additional fees. MMT must have this in the contract and Lionsgate doesn't want to have to pay out these fees so they are doing their best to ensure that the movie makes nowhere near the amount stipulated. It is the only explanation that makes sense to me. If they had just promoted it as it deserves and released it into first-run theaters , the film would have most likely made enough money to more than cover any fees imposed on Lionsgate, even with its limited release...

Wharmon
7:40pm, August 1, 2008

Of course the Prom Night remake gets a huge release. Of course yet another Saw sequel gets a huge release. Never underestimate the average citizenry's ability to settle for less than mediocre entertainment that does all their thinking for them, or rather in most cases never requires any thinking on anyone's part in the first place.

MAH0019
7:50pm, August 1, 2008

You can buy tickets for the Birmingham theater online. I still can't get over how much bullshit this is. And the fact that they are putting Repo! in limited release holy shit, I also read something from Clive where he say that Bousman was fighting for 5 theaters, so apparently that one is getting more fucked than this... This is such bullshit, luckily (?) i live in birmingham, al so I saw it at 1, and im going back tonight, and I'll be buying 60 dollars worth of tickets. I really loved the movie, aside from the one BAAAAAD CGI shot it was great!! totally undeserving of this bullshit

7:57pm, August 1, 2008

This is so fucking sad. Universal did this same thing to House Of 1,000 Corpses. Do you think it's too late for Barker to get a different distributor to release this movie? If it can happen, it should happen now. I can't believe we're gonna be left with shitty watered down horror this month like the Mummy 3. And Mirrors doesn't really impress me that much to go see it. Also, I believe Lionsgate is gonna release the next Saw movie this October. How fucked is that since the franchise has already lost it's luster. I really think Barker should find another distributor even if it means we have to wait to see Midnight Meat Train next year.

8:03pm, August 1, 2008

What is being hinted at here by "no one is willing to speak on the record" Is that this entire fiasco is political. This film was produced by the brilliant Peter Block the architect of much of Lions Gates past success. So now that Joe Drake has taken over Lions gate and fired his more talented rival he is dumping all of Peter's film. However this film gets special attention because Clive Barker dared to object and then got into a fist fight with Joe Drake in his office who threw Clive out on his ear and swore that he would destroy Clive Barker. That he and his scum bag fans were finished and not important. Who knows maybe Lions Gate can become the new New Line now that the old New Line went out of business once they abandoned there roots.

spookydan
8:05pm, August 1, 2008

I was not 100% behind Mr. Disgusting's decision to put out the call to all of the fans. Based on the amount of comments that people are leaving and the amount of love being thown at this film, I think it was most certainly the right thing to do. Right on Mr. D!!! Clive and Kitamura have delived a film that (I feel) won't disappoint. The horror fans are the most important aspect to this whole story, the are the ones who are now given the decidedly difficult chore of finding the screens and buying the tickets. I sincerely hope that the investors behind Lionsgate, and whoever else is higher up than them is takinga look at this grass roots effort. The investors in the studio are being taken for a ride.

MAH0019
8:09pm, August 1, 2008

MMT, that is interesting, I'm guessing you have some inside knowledge, and if you are quoting Joe directly when you say "Scumbag fans were finished" then holy shit fuck Lionsgate Also I just realized that this is probably what's happening to Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, and that pisses me off because I was looking forward to that Welcome to the world of the Winesteins, Lionsgate

Wharmon
8:14pm, August 1, 2008

I'd love for this movie to be able to find another distributer too. The sad part of that is that this movie is also beholden to the same contract that Lionsgate is. Then there's the matter of how willing Lionsgate is to sell the contract. And yes, I'm just as disappointed at the kind of horror that's shoveled at us. There's this stigma that anything challenging or left of center is for faggots or elitest arty types. The only thing we're allowed to see on a proper screen is a blood-drenched equivalent of an episode of Sesame Street. Horror movies used to be scary; they used to challenge cultural, social, and political norms. They were an experience. Nowadays, it seems like they all come off of the same assembly line from the same factory and they do virtually nothing but pass the time. That's certainly one of the reasons Repo is getting shafted, because it dares to be the exception and not the rule.

soundofmurder
8:20pm, August 1, 2008

I am going to see it at Superstition Mall in Mesa, AZ in just a couple of hours. The theatre charges about $2.50-$3 per ticket...I wonder how much goes to Lionsgate? Anyways there was an advertisement for the film at Cinemark in Mesa, and an employee told me the film would be showing there...though this is not a dollar theatre...when I went there today they said they had made a mistake and the film had been pulled? I see that the film is plaiyng at other Cinemark theaters in other states and I assume these are dollar or discount theaters, can anyone verify this? I do agree that we all should get behind this film...Lionsgate makes tons of money pumping out horror films into pipeline...good and bad ones, I see no reason or logic as to why they are treating a reknowned horror author's film this way?

At the moment, the website for MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN is still active @ http://www.midnightmeattrainthemovie.com/ However, there's only a trailer followed by COMING SOON, LIONSGATE, THE FILM IS NOT YET RATED toward the botom of the webpage (no active links to anywhere regarding where it's playing in theatres Or to Lionsgate itself - and if you visit http://lionsgate.com/ there is no mention of MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN - WTF?)!!! Fangs to the folks @ BD (and the fellow fans who posted which websites allow you to purchase online tickets) because without your announcement nobody would know what's going on!! Its not playing anywhere near Las Vegas, but if I can purchase some tickets somewhere maybe it can send a message to LIONSGATE (guess this would explain why not a peep about the movie was mentioned @ comic con this year @ LIONSGATE's panel)!! ~(^)~

has thought occured to even get noticed about 20 or so million must be drummed up in ticket sales! don't think we have the members or resources to pull that off even a mill or two is reaching, further more i saw the film, and well if you like hyper camera work and slow motion cgi blood matrix style go for it; the director behind godzilla final wars tackled this, great action director but not suited to directing horror. sorry not trying to piss you off, i rallied for this film just like the rest of you.

i just got back from seeing MMT and it's very f^ucking awesome! as grateful as i am being able to see it, love it and plan on buying it on DVD, i'm pissed that EVERYONE can't see this movie in the theater. i kid you not guys, it's a bad ass movie! it's gory (VERY!) in a # of intense kills and VERY creatively shot! some of the shots the way they are filmed, i've never seen done before. SPOILER-ISH: there's a scene in the movie where a victim's head has been knocked completely off and the immediate POV is the victim looking at his/hers own body from which it's been severed from!! but you don't realize it at first. the POV then switches to the us (the viewer) looking at the head still kinda blinking/twitching. the movie is so incredible shot/filmed i'm blown away. both my friend i went with and i totally love this movie. THIS MOVIE NEEDED A WIDE F^UCKING RELEASE!!! (IMO) this movie is SO MUCH BETTER than most of the movies released this year. i'm not trying to bash "The Strangers", but it's Joe Drake's produced film and i can see why he bumped MMT from it's initial release date and had "The Strangers" take it's place. MMT blows "The Strangers" in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY! i kid you not!

There are plenty of movies that surely suck but are given any opportunity possible to make money, which only makes sense. This, on the other hand, is an infuriating way of a company trying to prove that horror movies are not profitable by using the most under-handed tactics they could think of. Another nasty little side note of showing the movie exclusively at dollar-theaters, is that most of them don't even have ways of buying tickets online (and they knew people would band together and attempt to buy batches of tickets online).

is there any way we can call/write/fax/e-mail the better buisness bueroe to report the UNFAIR practice of a studio promoting a movie, then shoving it under the bed? I dont know this whole thing is pissing me right the f off. seems to me that we should go above the studios head, however that may be possible. Is there anyway to find out who liongates stock holders are? Or Investors? There must be a paper trail somewhere as there must be some large group owners. I know sports teams a lot of the time have to show who own what %, if we can find that out then 10-1 mailing them directly about how you would have gladly paid for this film and due to the ineptitude of the new leadership at lionsgate are unable and so they will make nothing off a movie that *while they could give to shits about if it's good or bad* would have been profitable to them. Would probably make more diffrence than writing lionsgate themselves.

I just wanted to post something on this. I don't know all the details behind it but maybe this will help. A studio NEEDS some movies to lose money. That way they can allocate the funds from other movies that MAKE money into areas of the company and ultimately make more money. It happens all the time. My girlfriend happens to be an accountant and the ins-and-outs I could not speak of but I know that this is something that in some instances they WANT. Now I'm not too sure but I DO know that Lionsgate rocks the theatre chains (working at one I an promise you of that) about 2 times a year. When a Tyler Perry movie comes out...and when there is a Saw film. Seeing as there happens to be both coming out soon (The Family That Preys and Saw 5) perhaps this is the strategy. Like I said I don't speak accountant so I cannot tell you why or how but if they have a film that seems destined to flop...it may be because they will make more money (as a company-not for the filmmakers themselves) if it fails miserably. That way when you got your big boy movies coming out they can profit much much more off of it. Just a thought. Please don't ask me to explain the details cause I don't know them. I could only retain this much before my head went "Scanners" anyway.

brandon_curtis
11:35pm, August 1, 2008

As much as I hate to be a voice of dissent here because I want to see this movie, Lions Gate should have gone the direct-to-video route they were entertaining once before. All the good intentions wouldn't be so pointless and the treatment of the film far less ugly. Remember how much people belly ached about "Firefly" getting cancelled then when the film opened it was kind of a flop. I know people showed up in droves for all those advance screenings but that didn't count towards the final gross. But nobody showed up when it mattered. The problem with people making this stand is that you don't mind buying ten tickets for a dollar because they're ten for a dollar. The real problem, I guess, is that the movie can't fail on your terms. That is all.

Hi, I am new here and this will be my first post. In fact it is because of this movie that I am even posting at all. Don’t get me wrong I think this site is doing a fantastic job and I really enjoy what Mr. Disgusting has to say in general. The fact that he is proactive about it is amazing to me. I have to say that I am amazed that bloody-disgusting put up with so many negative comments on these movies. Not that negative comments are not warranted in some cases, but from what I have read it is a little overboard at times. (But seriously do we need to kill off every movie before we have even seen it?) One of the main reasons I am weary of being on here. However, I do think that if we pull together to do something about this stuff, we may be able to do something about the films we enjoy instead of complaining about them. I think this is a great idea and I will do my part for it. I just bought 10 tickets in New York and I live in Michigan. I am also a student and I seem to have been able to shell out some cash for a movie that I am having a real hard time seeing. (I don’t think I will be able to make it to New York in time, even if I could afford to do so.) I think that if there is even a slight chance that this might do some good I am all for it. I can at least say that I put my money where my mouth is. Well that is enough from me. –LabMonster13

I just got home, I saw it twice in a row at Superstition Mall in Mesa, AZ...too bad the theater also happens to show Iron Man at the same time...there was not too many people there but the film is amazing... one of the best horror films in a long time... for all the people saying this won't help or just wait for it on DVD...if you can go to see the film do it, buy 10 tickets and give them to people and hopefully some will go see it. This isn't about money it's about the horror genre and one of the best author's, Clive Barker's. This is why horror will always be around and people will always enjoy it, because it holds something special for many people and other genre's of film just don't do that.

I'd love to see this movie, but I'm sure as hell not going to pay for a ticket and NOT get to see it! LMAO! All this would result in, is false attendence numbers for the movie...how is that saving it? How is that taking on Lionsgate? ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS "MOVEMENT" AND KNOW OF THE FALSE TICKET NUMBERS PLOY! You usually can't fool someone while they are looking right at you, hello? Horror movies do the bulk of their business on home video, so as long as we all go out and either buy or rent the film at that time, the movie can still succeed a legit way.

Everyone was complaining about the film not getting a theatrical release. It's now in theatres. Sure, not the best ones, but it's still in theatres for some of us to go see. But... Instead of letting people go, the plan is to buy up all of the tickets online? Say one of these theatres holds 200 people. 20 people do the buy ten tickets thing and someone who wants to go see the film can't. That's a great plan. I'm sure there haven't been enough people dumb enough to do that though, so with reports that people are seeing it in theatres with only 15 other people sort of proves a point that there isn't as big an audience/Barker fanbase for this film as everyone's been saying.

READ BETWEEN THE LINES; if this movie makes a certain amount of money the studio has to pay money, thus losing money, so this was set up to fail from LGF and never given a fair chance. What BD and crew are asking is if we the fans make the film reach that number, which they, the studio think we will never reach, then WE HAVE JUST STUCK IT TO THE STUDIO. What one poster said was completely true. Instead of seeing the awesome Grindhouse last year, assholes went to go see retarded shit instead. Then it failed. Anyway, Clive Barker sucks. I know it's a bold statement. I'm big into horror but have never liked any of Barker's stuff. I work in the film industry and if Lionsgate is doing this to Meat Train then it's for a good reason. It might not be fair but it's still for a reason. I'm guessing because it probably sucks. If you notice all the people who say it was "amazing" and "awesome" say that about every horror movie piece of crap that comes out. Also, I think it's the dumbest thing ever to tell people to go and buy a bunch of tickets. I don't exactly like pissing my money away. And anyone who does is an idiot.

Was going to try and hit the 1 PM screening today out in Norwalk at the Phoenix Adlabs Theater, but the 5 out of L.A was awful. I figured I'd hit the next screening later on, so I turned around...on the way back, I called Moviefone on a whim and they've got 4:30 and 9:20 PM showings listed at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. for today....weird. I know the American Cinematheque is doing their Sci-Fi, Horror & Fantasy Festival starting this weekend, and this isn't listed on either the Egyptian's website or their phone recording. Maybe Lionsgate managed to get an extra print over to them for a few last-minute L.A.-area showings?

To direct311-You can't assume that everyone that liked this enjoys everything to come out of the genre. I will admit that while I enjoy a lot of Barker's writing I dislike most of his films. This, on the other hand, was an incredible movie. There's just not many good horror movies in a year (lets face the facts..some of the worst movies ever are horror movies), let alone great (if we're lucky we get one great one in a year). This film was incredible though, easily the best thing this year since Inside. I had to drive for three hours to reach the closest theater showing it, and will say it was well worth it.

Those numbers aren't THAT bad for a movie in DOLLAR theaters...and plus that's ONE day. About 20,000 this weekend im guessing/

demogorgon
10:59pm, August 2, 2008

yeah don't forget to multiply that number $9,600 by at least $5.25 to show more accurately how it may have done in normal theaters... makes a difference of around $50,400. don't forget that no advertising means that unless you are a hardcore fan or know someone that is you would have no idea that it's happening. hard to say what could've been...

The director...Ryuhei Kitamura is what sets this movie apart from most, let alone most in this genre. For a while I have been a fan of his work (particularly Versus) though his films are interesting its easy to see a steady evolution in his aesthetic. What makes this film so stand out in my mind is its appearance. I'd compare it to Suspiria in the strange mixture of beauty and dread the film has to it. While most genre films will either hand the steady green/yellow Fincher/Saw-esque tonality or Rob Zombie/Grindhouse grimy grainy look, this film, and probably because of its foreign director, gave us something very different. There's also the casting, which gels particularly well despite the main character being played by Bradley Cooper, who I had my reservations about, seeing him in only Wedding Crashers and Nip/Tuck, but somehow he works here and is perfect for the part. I also had my reservations about Vinnie Jones, who, quite frankly, I hadn't really taken seriously since his first appearance in this movie. While the depth of the premise seems downright anemic from the trailers (serial killer on a train?) the trailer is really a dulled down version of what you get, not just in terms of the film's style but the premise itself (of which I was very grateful). As far as Inside goes, it was a hard movie to get through the first time (though for all the right reasons) from the beginning the premise brought me to mind of a few 70s movies (particularly When A Stranger Calls and Black Christmas) and even borrowed some of the visual gimmicks from Saw (using the flash on a camera to look into the dark) the film takes an unusually dark direction even for this genre. I will only say that it is about a pregnant woman surviving a car crash only to find herself alone at home, being stalked by a strange woman. The film is definitely low budget but beautiful and probably one of the best directed horror films since Carpenter's The Thing. Its a great movie but I have to warn you, its more intense than you're probably used to. Category 3 movies, cannibal movies, guinea pig movies...all dull, scareless crap,,,,,The Inside is the real deal.

The fucking theaters where I live don't play a lot of horror....hopefully the nearby drive-in will....

$10,000 is pretty damn good for a couple of days in discount theaters where the prices vary alot depending on the theater, time, day, etc. the theater i saw it at is anywhere from $1.50 to $3.00 a ticket just depending on the day and time. Not to mention that no one knew it was going to be in discount theaters only up until a few days ago.

I saw it tonight and loved it. It's not perfect, but it's much better than a lot of shit I've seen in theaters in the last ten years.

i wonder if we got to see the real version of the film? how much stuff was left out? on clive's website i'd read awhile back vinnie jones talking about skinning people... vinnie jones: "Look, you see me, right, and I get two passengers on the train, I hook them up and I skin them, you actually see me skinning them - pulling the skins off of human beings. You ever seen that?... i don't remember any skinnings...

I'm no expert, but I'm having a good chuckle at everyone clamoring to "save" this movie just because Lion's Gate says they want the movie to succeed. If they wanted it to succeed, they wouldn't have dumped it in dollar theaters. Am I taking crazy pills? The movie looks average at best, and is probably deserving of its placement. Clive Barker's stories are meandering and half-cocked more often than not, and I'm sure this is no exception. "A donation to horror"? Psh - maybe if something truly progressive or startling like Inside weren't receiving proper treatment, then I'd drop some moneys to save it. Average everyday Clive Barker movie already destined to be forgotten by the end of the year? Pass.

How come horror movie directors never resort to independent movie distributors to release their movies on independent cinema? If they feel that it's not gonna get a mainstream release, this would be a last resort. It worked for Romero's Diary Of The Dead even though I didn't like it that much. How about it Clive?

For anyone living in Minnesota, I know that Brookdale 8 Cinemas (a.k.a. Brookdale 8 Discount Theatre) in Brooklyn Center is playing this film. They have a website, brookdalecinemas.com. I intend on seeing the movie today and bringing as many of my friends as are willing to come. I may even buy extra tickets and hand 'em out to anyone who'd want to see a horror film for free. I hate how Lions Gate is treating this movie, I really do. If it's good (and I expect it to be; Barker + Kitamura sounds like a wonderful pairing), I'll go see it again if I find the time.

re: Box Office Numbers -- Actually, that is horrible. (IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS was only playing on two screens, and its per screen average was over $7,000!) You guys have to realize that they dumped it into the dollar theaters on purpose. It was never going to be remotely possible for it to do the kind of business that it needed. The tickets weren't priced high enough and there were too few theaters. All you guys did by buying absentee and extra tickets was give Lionsgate a couple extra bucks. You rewarded the enemy. This "crusade" was badly thought out from the jump.

I just returned from this movie at Carriage Place - Columbus, Ohio and it definitely deserves our support. For anyone interested, I have setup a paypal account, and I am going to go to the theatre and buy as many tickets as possible for each showing. This should be done in other areas of the country also. This really is an attack against horror as a genre. If we don't do something now we're going to be left with remakes of Prom Night starring different actresses from The Hills. Think of it in this light: if this movie sells out in several of the theatres listed Lionsgate will realize how much money it's losing in the process. $1 limited release vs. $8.50 to a wide audience. Do the right thing, horror fans. jeh@jessehenthorn.com is my paypal address. I'll scan and send the purchased tickets.

I'm so pissed. I live in Michigan and went to one of the theaters that is playing MMT. It's about 30 minutes from where I live. As my wife and I sit down in excitement the movie started and it was a little out of focus. It gets worse as the movie went on. It was about 20 min into the movie and it was unwatchable. We got up, got free tickets and our 5 dollars back, 2.50 a ticket. I'm sure most of these theaters have poor quality screenings. I'm in rage. I have a feeling same thing is going to happen to REPO. I wasted gas money and my night out. I'm already out of my money to donate.

Saw MMT at Movies 10, N. Canton, Ohio. Over 40 people at the 7:35 showing on a Sunday night so you know it would have done even better Friday and Saturday had it been showing at the multiplex where everyone else goes for their first-run horror fix. One of the better horror films of 07/08--makes no sense to open it in the minors!

One sugestion; it may not be a great impact, though I think it could make more money than the studios obviously want to make (pretty much nothing to hurt the film)for example; if the Horror hounds in L.A., NY. and so on, pitch in about 10-15 bucks a piece, we could probably BUY a Print(S) from the studios themselves (I don´t know who the business goes, so forgive me if I think to lightly on that)make a special screening at a public place, and MAYBE, make a Raffle for the Original(s) Print(s) between the Horror Hounds in each event, the result?? A BIG F-U to the Execs, We SHOW WE F¨N CARE for the films that matter and NOT the Crap they want to push us, and someway we can actually make our voice heard, Just a thought....IN the LOnG run the film will make more money than what the Execs want the film to show, in order to hurt the Horror Films and the exec wouldn't be able to say we DID NOTHING...

heavy metal horns up for Mr. D!!! the result of this campaign (and the previous one to encourage LGF to release wide) is that everyone knows the film rocks and the only problem here is hollywood politics. this is more important than tickets or dollar amounts. the film is awesome and the fans who have seen it are reporting back with good reviews. the bottom line is that horror fans will find the film if they LOVE IT. whether in a crappy dollar theater or on DVD, and despite the bullsh8t from LGF, this film will eventually find its audience. THEY CANNOT STOP US FROM LOVING GOOD HORROR MOVIES! THIS FILM WILL PLAY MIDNIGHT SCREENINGS FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS!!! DEATH TO LGF! THEY ARE COWARDS AND MONEY GRUBBING SUITS THAT TREAT HORROR FANS LIKE TOILET PAPER!!!

I saw the movie. It wan't that good. I'm sure Lionsgate has better things to do then support a dying movie no one will go and see. They know they will make more money on DVD sales anyways. Give it a rest. Who cares. It's their movie they can do what they want.

Meat Lover
3:35am, August 5, 2008

hey Bloody Satan, it's not LIONSGATE'S movie. they had investing partners from overseas and Lakeshore also put up a serious chunk of the budget. But LGF did have the final say on the theaters and they SNUBBED their partners out of money that could have EASILY been recouped by simply releasing the film without advertising in urban centers. Why? Because of petty Hollywood in-fighting. So if you didn't love the film, that's fine. But what has everyone pissed off is the fact that a company that has an obligation to its financial partners and the dedicated fans who helped build their empire, decides to F*CK everyone because of their egos and bullsh*t moral agendas.
