SDCC '08: Report From the 'Twilight' Panel

At this year's San Diego Comic Con one of the biggest shockers for me was how hot Summit Entertainment's Twilight was. I'm excited purely because I love director Catherine Hardwicke, but apparently the book is HUGE and the fangirls were on hand screaming, yelling and fighting to be the first to see footage from the adaptation. SpookyDan sends in a report, that includes a brief interview with Hardwicke and star Stephenie Meyer. The film is about a high school girl named Bella falls in love with a vampire. The new couple leads a rival vampire clan to pursue them and attempt to force her to decide if she, too, wishes to become one of the undead. Read on for the skinny. Twilight Excites Comic Con to a Fevered Frenzy!

Thursday afternoon at the San Diego Comic Con was the highlight for fans of the upcoming vampire film TWILIGHT.

Super fans camped out the night before just to get into the 2pm panel with cast members, director Catherine Hardwick, and the woman behind the incredibly popular film and book series, Stephanie Meyer.

I have been to Comic Con numerous times, and I have never seen a crowd so crazy for an upcoming film - even the STAR WARS fans were given a run for their passion today.

There were rumors of people passing out, much crying and screams heard across the convention, but the big excitement for the film peaked as heartthrob Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) arrived with his mussed up hair (video and audio file coming soon!).

Luckily for you “Twihards” (Twilight super fans) we at Bloody got a chance got to sit down with Stephanie Meyer and Catherine Hardwick, during a roundtable session at the convention. Both woman were really excited to be there and happy to chat with us about it. Here are some highlights from the conversation.

Catherine Hardwick: Bloody Disgusting, alright!

SpookyDan: Coming from LORDS OF DOGTOWN, was it hard a hard transition to get inside this world?

Catherine Hardwick: I love this world i fell in love with Stephanie’s world the first time I read it, its like I’m there! I want to see it, I want to breathe it in and see it come to life.

SpookyDan: Did you know about how nuts it was before you signed on?

Catherine Hardwick: I didn't know it was going to be this crazy (laughs)!

SpookyDan: By the time it got to the movie, you knew the fandom had gone through the roof?

Stephanie Meyer: I was really surprised. I knew I had my little group of fans, and the way that they responded to the movie and the thing sort of took off online, I was surprised! I know how passionate the fans can get, but there are so many of them. It kind of like WOW!

Catherine Hardwick: It’s cool that’s its so creative for people, they are making their own trailers and songs and it has sparked a creative explosion, I think it’s really exciting.

Stephanie Meyer: I love the (fan created) youtube videos, I think its fantastic.

SpookyDan: Stephanie did you have any say in the casting of the film?

Stephanie Meyer: A little bit, but not contractual. One of the great things about the studio Summit is that they have been very cooperative; they DID want me to be a part of things. If there was a situation where I really wanted to see a change, they actually listened to me.

SpookyDan: Catherine are you signed on to do all the rest of the films?

Catherine Hardwick: Well, no exact decisions have been made yet, but its all getting figured out now. We all hope for it, and we got our finger crossed!

Stay tuned here at Bloody-Disgusting over the next week as we unveil mp3s of the interviews with almost everyone in the cast, and we have uncut video footage of Robert Pattinson that no one else has!

If they execute the fourth book correctly to film...I don't think horror fans will be disappointed; that book is horror movie worthy (seriously bloody and cringe inducing).
