Update: Wes Craven's assistant tells Bloody-Disgusting that she's 99.9% sure that Wes Craven has yet to be approached for the project, contrary to reports. We'll have official word by days end. We're working on confirming this as we speak, but until then, iFMagazine caught up with Jamie Kennedy at the TCA's CBS afterparty to promote his new role on CBS's THE GHOST WHISPERER where he reported some very, very interesting news regarding Dimension Films' Scream 4, which has become the center of the horrorverse over the past week since its surprising announcement. Read on for the story.
Despite having having been killed off in the franchise, it seems as if Kennedy could still be involved once again as Randy.
"I actually had a conversation with somebody very big in the organization, and there’s a way," he tells iF. "I don’t know what’s going to happen, but they have plans for a lot of things. You can see new faces that you wouldn’t expect and you can see old faces that you wouldn’t believe. There’s a way to bring a lot of things around."
When asked if director Wes Craven would be involved, Kennedy confirmed that it's "the only way they're going to do it."
Kennedy's enthusiasm for the film seems to contradict the story reported by Moviehole this weekend, which claims that Neve Campbell is holding up the project. Watch for further developments soon.
If Jamie Kennedy is in this, I'll be really pissed. Just cause his character was liked doesn't give him the right to be in every sequal. If his name is mentioned okay thats fine. I thought the whole video thing in Scream 3 was kind of stupid, and if he for some reason is on the screen in Scream 4... ugh. Just, the character is dead.
I personally feel that a "new" director would better serve the expansion of the Scream Franchise.
Wes Craven is an icon, however, for every Nightmare on Elm Street, there was also a Cursed.

If all this reporting and fan reaction doesn't show TWC/Dimension that this film should be made they are nuts. People are talking about it in droves.
Also not sure how this report contradicts Moviehole. Seems that Moviehole confirmed that the one dudes script is being read just as BD confirmed this. Also it seems Moviehole has a source AT Dimension taht gave them the info regarding Neve's holdout too so maybe both reports are on the mark????

writer928, i agree w/ you. the Scream movies have TONS & TONS of fans who are STILL interested in more Scream movies. i'm surprised Dimension hasn't come out w/ one long before now.
Lemme guess....Randy miraculously survives his Ghostface encounter, goes bat-shit crazy in seclusion, and exacts his revenge in the 3rd sequel. Wow. That'd be hilarious!! Oh! maybe add a cross-over subplot involving Gale Weathers and Julie James in a lesbian romance. And Dewey got a sex-change!!! WELL....if they're gonna keep destroying franchises (like this one is really stable...) you might as well do it right!!!
to pleatherface31, wes craven only did 3 out of the 200 nighmare movies, those 3 were the best that franchise had to offer, i think that if he were to do the next scream, it would be ok because he's had time to cook up some new ideas, but Kennedy's character? come the fuck on......why?......what is that going to do other than make absolutly no sense, im saying boycott!! that part

No, come to think about it, Randy will not be in it. They had a plan to have him survive his killing in Scream 2 to come back in Scream 3 but obviously figured out themselves that would be retarded so it didn't happen. They're not going to do it now. And if he has a video about "the rules of a fourth..." I'll be really upset, lol.
OK I THINK IF EVERYONE THAT was INVOLVED is INVOLVED it could be good, with chances it could suck. I really think this would be better than the CRAP that comes today; TOURTUE.... Throw in some nudity. TOURTURE... throw in some stupid dialouge..and what do we have MINDLESS crap, Not TO MENTION the remakes!!!!!
WE really need something entertaining. I would rather watch a slasher sequel over anything right now.
Craven only directed 2 Nightmares.. The first and the last... His track record is more sound than some would lead you to believe. But, then again, he did give us a dog flashback, so...
More news on Scream 4!!! We are getting lots lately arent we!!! In Scream 3 they were on about the idea of bringing Randy back with some sort of story that his parents whisked him away into hiding,with him being mentioned coming into Scream 4 it gets me excited!!! A brilliant character whos presence was missed by loads since the end of his death scene im sure!!! If the concept is good enough to bring him back "Somehow" then i welcome it,will be even more impressed if craven says yes,but i do always remember him saying that the money would have to be right and he would have to have control of it all.All i can say is i hope he gets his wish and the weinsteins realise that its sensible to let him if he agrees!! ill be checking back whenever possible for more news on this!!!
David Arquette and Courtney Cox have not been approached about scream 4 yet. I have talked with David VIA email and he sounds like he would be up for doing it. I also asked if the thing about neve not returning was true. He said that he hadnt heard anything about it.
Sounds interesting.. Im sure both the Arquettes would love a retun as it holds strong personal feelings for them both because its how they met,fell in love,and got married!!

I can't believe even with you being such a huge fan of the series, that you would want him to come back in the fourth. That would be so stupid, just think about it. The scream movies never were supernatural. A guy cant come back from the dead, and then run away from the new killer... ugh.
I know, but if he was to have some super excuse that people could believe or just to have the story go in a way that they have a flashback into the past or something along those lines... it would be just good to see him in a new film again in some sort of way,on Scream forums i always see topics that want billy and stu back and i always say that they are dead and thats that,its the same case with randy,but as i wondered in Scream 3 before seeing it,could he had been still alive somehow and could he have sent the video to make it look even more like he was dead from a "Killer returning for all" point of view so he wouldnt even be thought of as a target again,basically i loved his character and was really annoyed when he was killed off. i know it isnt realistic to bring him back again but he is missed by ALL Scream fans im sure.. If the fans were asked whilst filming Scream 2 whether he should live or die then i definately know he would have lived!
Thats the trouble!!! Too many bloody kids... i see members now that say they first sdaw Scream when there were 3 or 5 or 8 etc etc..... I would like him back though somehow in a realistic way thats believable to the fans.. nothing too daft though.
i dont think they are... i tried asking jamie for an interview in june for my website but got no official response,although i was added to his friends list on Myspace... I think moviehole and IF are on the level!
If Wes gets involved i would love a Scream 4 even more. Randy was a great character but he should stay dead unless they find a tape with him talking about something, perhaps something that the killer finds out about and becomes the reason why he starts killing? And in the end we get to see the tape playing and understand what he had found out via Randy and triggered his/her/their rage
I like the first Scream, 2nd and 3rd were ok, if they want to bring him back, well guess noone has a say in it, the only way i would watch it is if they kill off neve's character, send her off.... then clone her for Scream Resurrection lol!

Randy could have staged his death, Micky and Billy's mom could have been in on it too. Unless they bring him back for use in flashbacks! Wes did have some involvement in the making of Elm street 3 (no really look on the DVD credits) in fact he came up with the premise which is why we learn about Freddy's mom. So given that Mr Craven isnt up to much he could do a Scream 4.
If WES isnt involved, I think just start from scratch with a new trilogy with new cast, if you give us a half assed new director with some cast returning i just dont see what good would come from that.

Courtney & David Arquette
and that's at least those three, if any of those are missing, i highly doubt wes will do it.
also the way he ended scream 3 with her leaving the door open has significance of her not being scared and the nightmare of it all is over, wes isnt a fan of going back and making more sequels after he tried to make a point to close them then.

Alright everyone...I have the answer to our Scream 4 dilemma. I know two really amazing ideas to bring Randy back. The good news is that they will both work with present day terms. I promise that it's not any sort of flashback or twin or clone, etc. I'm looking for someone I can trust to share my idea and possibly write a script for Scream 4. I am not 12...just a huge fan of the series as well as an aspiring screenwriter/director. I couldn't be more serious.

Plus i have interviewed "Michael T Kennedy" who has his script being looked at by the weinsteins at the moment.. Im interested to see how you would bring randy back though.. Id like to see him back but only in a realistic way!
Craven has admitted to having "Talks" about Scream 4!! This news broke on Sunday 27th July!! He said after Cursed" it would have to be on his terms... Come on wes!!
