Dimension Films STILL Remaking 'Children of the Corn'!?
Thursday, July 17, 2008

We broke the news back in June that Producer Donald P. Borchers would be writing and directing his own remake of Children of the Corn for the Sci-Fi Channel and Anchor Bay Entertainment, only that's just the beginning. We learned today that Dimension Films still owns the rights to the Stephen King story and has every intention of adapting it once again for the big screen! No word yet on who will tackle the project, but this could be cool if they do it right. More news as it comes in.

As long as it pwns the Sci Fi Channel version (which will no doubt be a letdown unless a miracle occurs).

Is anybody really screaming for a Sci Fi Channel version of anything? Granted, the original looks like a made-for-tv movie, but come on. As far as the remake with the theatrical release goes, there's a lot of room for improvement when it comes to the original, so anyone with even the slightest bit of talent could improve upon what was done before.

I thought the original was dog toffee so the old polish a turd query springs to mind

I didnt like the original that much. The short story was SO much better even if it only had one event really. It seemed the movie just went in circles. I think a remake would be good for this one.

Are these people just so sick and tired of having money that they feel the desperation to throw it away on this shit. For the kind of product this sort of thing really has the potential to be, you honestly can't do any worse by taking a chance on something new. Something we haven't seen before. Something that maybe hasn't been proven to make money by some biased survey process or some kind of fucked up twisted inhuman anti-logic that would even make Andy Warhol cry. Sure, there's a new generation of moviegoers out there today, wouldn't that mean we should make a new generation of movies if the industry is to keep up? If this new generation wants to see any foreign movies or older movies, they can go fuckin' rent them or simply boost them off the internet like the rest of us do.

There is a movie called Who Can Kill A Child that recently got re-released on DVD a while ago. It blows away the original Children of the Corn, and I'm sure it will blow away this remake too. This is a nice and informative way of me saying "fuck this remake".

Aaaaaah!! Battle of the remakes!

That's a bit strange. It seems Dimension is being spiteful because SCI-FI channel of all people beat them to it. This will either end with SCI-FI cancelling THEIR version OR THEIR version ends up a million times better than the over-produced mainstream Dimension version. FYI, I LOVED the original and can't believe all of the haters on this board! It was a highly suspenseful film with great character development and a creepy score! I'm only looking forward to a remake because it's better than a Part 8 and I think SCI-FI's low budget version will come out closer to the original story than the big budget one. -RHR
