UPDATE: 'Children of the Corn' Remake Writer and Director!
Friday, June 13, 2008

Some weird, weird, weird news came in this morning that caught me a little off guard. What we received was word that a remake of Children of the Corn is gearing up for production this August in Eastern Central Iowa - and Dimension Films is not involved. Inside you'll find out who is writing, directing and also check out an early shooting synopsis!

Update: The remake is being produced by Anchor Bay Entertainment for a Sci-Fi Channel premiere.

Here's the shocker, Bloody-Disgusting learned that Donald P. Borchers - producer of the original 1984 film - is directing the latest incarnation if CHILDREN OF THE CORN from his own screenplay!

His previous directing credits include Perfect Fit (1999) and Grave Secrets (1989). He also associate produced The Beastmaster (1984).

The film is currently casting with the following synopsis making the rounds: Former Vietnam vet BURT's marriage to former prom queen VICKY is on the rocks, but Burt hopes to rekindle their old flame with a second honeymoon driving trip. Unfortunately, their journey takes them into the heart of darkness - a seemingly deserted rural community that conceals a grim secret among its rows of tall corn...

It was also revealed that this will be a period piece set in the 1970s.

Finally, a film that could use a remake! The original is not bad, but nowhere near as good as it could have been. Let's hope Donald P. Borchers can give us something memorable and not just another remake made solely for the money.

Whoa, no spellcheck at Bloody Disgusting. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to see that Beastmaster was made in 1084. I think the Crusades were going on during that time!^_^ And the other line: "It was also revealed that this will be a period piece set in the 1979s.". "1979s"? I didn't realize there was more than one year passing in 1979. I think you meant the 1970s, or in 1979. Thinking back to Stephen King's original story, it took place sometime in the 70s. But yeah, strange news indeed. I wonder if they are going to keep the roles of Malachai and Isaac with similar looking actors. I always see Malachai as a red-head, and Isaac as a man-child.

hah shit these movies sucked bad anyways and the basic story for this is just so stupid, children of the corn movies are about the lowest form of horror movies on my list... usually im open to remakes, but i have no interest in this

LOLOL.....magnaderalpha....that's funny as hell. Yea, I am looking forward to this. I have been wanting another installment in the COTC franchise. Hopefully it will contain lots of the gothic chant music like the original.

This movie looks like a complete turd! Why didn't they just call it Fast And The Furious 2083 and toss that same cast of talentless hacks in it(even though, this batch of actors looks almost as clueless?!)Disgraceful.

if its going to be made for tv its gonna suck hard. a real revamp would make this a remake worth watching. anything less makes it another in a long line of worthless remakes. ie black christmas, prom night, the eye, ect

Oh..hehe, great, like Sci-Fi Channel needs yet another crappy feature film. Bejeezus, I guess we all know what to expect with this one. There will probably be(at the very most) ONE washed up star present, perhaps Rob Lowe or Richard Grieco. The leading female actress will be some playboy-looking chick with big boobies, yet no acting talent. You're going to have poorly written dialog that sounds dry and unrealistic, not to mention HIDEOUS jokes(up there with what Shannon and Swift did for FvJ, sadly). In short, a movie of Uwe Boll-caliber. And while the concept has always been interesting, I don't think the orignal is kinda funny now that I look back at it. Yeah, it was bad, almost unintentionally comedic. I remember watching I Love The 80s and they had that guys saying, "Don't STOP!! The CORN KIDS KILL PEOPLE!!".

I'll still watch it. I love the original as well as parts 2, 4 and 6. The original was low budget and it seems this will be as well. So it could work. I have faith it will atleast be better than a bad sequel. And it's a different type of film than what usually premieres on SCI-FI channel. Sci-Fi had some decent films premiere (Abominable, Return of The Living Dead 4&5, Pumpkinhead 4&5 and Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys) so atleast they are trying to keep the old-skool horror trend alive. I don't see anyone else willing to update these franchises. I'm happy as long as I get to see it.

I would love to see some of King's creepier stories come to the screen or if they insist...sci fi channel...Rose Madder and Geralds Game would be great additions. Remake people need to read more, there are a lot of great novels and short stories that they could use as clearly the mind is dry. I think a Dark Tower series would go down well on TV. I didnt think Children of the corn needed a remake it had the creeps and Linda Hamilton, flawless!

Like SlasherFreak said, this is going to be doomed. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. It'll end up like the Poseidon Adventure with tons of TV remakes and only barely-decent remake that made some money. It'll be forgotten soon after the "premiere."

Oh Dear.... A Sci-Fi remake?! Noooo. Sci-Fi films seem to be the most horrifically unbearable peices of "art" ever to come across the eyes of this planet! Excuse my dramatics, but it just does not sound like a good thing to me, I mean, the original was amazing, and could be absolutely wonderful, like end of-all-creation good, but thats not going to happen with Sci-Fi, and if it does, more power to them, I give them my best wishes and luck, lots and lots of luck.

I wish they would stop this. Children of the corn is a classic. it is good and they did real good with what was available. The movie was so ahead of its time with the opening scene. Remakes don't need to occur and just because hollywood can't think does not mean that we have to watch the same movies with a different idea and different actors. Some are good but they should stop and find a new idea.

egad the original was pretty awful, except for the overwhelming camp factor. im all in for a remake i just wish it wasnt a made for cable movie. they should try to get a decent director and cast for a real-deal remake. i feel like hollywood owes us one after that awful 'day of the dead" travesty of a remake.

For all of the pieces that have been re-made in hopes of either improving them, or to introduce them to a younger generation, Children of the Corn certainly is not one in need of a re-creation. I am a huge fan of the original, so I will see the newer version, don't get me wrong; but a masterpiece needs not be touched in my opinion. I love the old, gritty film style camera shot, like the original Texas Chainsaw, or any classic horror film. I want 'he who walks behind the rose' not he who walks in front of the green screen.

Children....of the Corn Flakes. SciFi puts out some serious garbage, and I don't think there's any way that their remake/version can be as scary, gory, or suspenseful as the film needs to be. Even if they follow the original King story, or have a great script, it'll be the same kind of PG13 pablum that we usually get fed every summer at the theaters...with a smaller budget. SUCK.

Any King movie without King's input usually sucks. I think he might know something as to what makes things scary. SciFi channel, don't get me wrong, i love their programs but they put out like a movie a week. The only way to afford that is to skimp (sp?) on a few things like actors who can carry a line, or sets that are believable. I haven't seen a movie of theirs yet that didn't suck so i have no hope for this one. But like usual i'm a sucker for cheesey horror crap so ill watch it but i wont enjoy myself... probably.

This film will be overseen by Stephen King. He wants it made because he did not like the original movie, it had some "nice children" in it. He promises there will be no nice children in this one. It will have a goth-like tone, that is why my daughter has been selected to be in it. We have plenty of corn in eastern Iowa (Not east-central Iowa, like has been descibed here earlier) Much of the fiming will take place in and atound Wilton and Davenport. Filming begins Tues. Sept. 2nd. It wil;l be released on DVD after the premier on Sci-Fi and will be shown first run in Europe. Give this movie a chance. It might be better than what you are used to from Sci-Fi.
