Talk of a Third ‘X-Files’ More Real as Gillian Anderson Expresses Strong Interest (Again)

As stated multiple times since the last piece of crap hit theaters, Gillian Anderson is still ready to reprise her iconic role as Dana Scully in a third X-Files film, says THR.

The site reports from the world premiere in Sydney of Universal’s Johnny English Reborn, in which Anderson plays the head of fictional MI7 opposite Rowan Atkinson, and reports that Anderson said that there is definite talk of X-Files 3.

I hope it will happen, there’s talk of it,” she told Australian breakfast TV program Sunrise.

I don’t know who’s writing it but I hear there’s something going on,” she said.

And she indicated that there could be more life in the franchise, saying she wants to do a film spoof of the hit Fox TV series.

I’ve always wanted to do a spoof of the X Files as a film,” she said.

We talked about that for a long time but maybe after three features we could get to do a spoof feature.

The 2008 The X-Files: I Want to Believe was absolutely horrendous and flopped at the boxoffice raking in only $21 million. Although, it is worth noting that it pulled in $68 million worldwide, which quite possibly could warrant talk of another sequel.

Noomi Rapace in 'You Won't Be Alone'

When the project was originally announced, Christina Hendricks was set to star in Reckoner, but Deadline lets us know that Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) has taken over the leading role.

The site reports this afternoon, “Prometheus and Constellation star Rapace is replacing Christina Hendricks who is no longer attached due to scheduling conflicts, we understand.”

Nissar Modi (Z for Zachariah) is writing and directing Reckoner.

“The plot will follow an affluent woman whose carefully constructed life is disrupted by a young man connected to a tightly-held secret from her past.”

The film is based on a short story written by Rachel Ingalls.

XYZ Films and Two & Two Pictures are producing.

“We are immensely excited to join forces with an exceptionally talented team for Reckoner. It is an honour to have Noomi Rapace on board to complement Nissar’s electrifying directorial debut,” Two & Two Pictures said in an official statement shared by Deadline today.
