IF IT BLEEDS, IT LEADS – Quick Look at the Comics I got this week.
Well I’m fresh from coming back from the comic book store with my comic buddy, Dubbs. I got mostly what I wanted, except the Doctor Who one shot that came out was sold out by the time I got there. I just finished reading the rest of comics I got and wanted to give you a quick look into the rest and see if they’re worth your time. Hack/Slash #23
Written by Tim Seely
Art by Ross Campbell and Mike Dimayuga $3.50
Issue 23 of Hack/Slash is a double feature with 2 stories in it’s covers. The first issue is a one shot of a Nancy Drew-like girl detective checking out a horrible massacre and trying to solve it. The second story revolves around Cassie Hack taking care of a murdering snow blower at Christmas.
Bottom Line: The first story had promise but crashed during the ending. The second story is typical Hack/Slash fare and is fun.
Unthinkable #2 (of 5)
Written by Mark Sable
Art by Julian Totino Tedesco $3.99
Issue 2 continues the story Alan Ripley trying to stop the worst case scenario of mass destruction. This mini-series is finally starting to ramp up and get good.
Bottom Line: While I understand this isn’t typical horror…comics like this scare the junk out of me because it seems like it could happen. If you feel like trying something new/different, give it a try.
Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft #2 (of 4)
Written by Mac Carter
Art by Tony Salmons $4.99
After an explosive first issue, Strange Adventures starts to really get into the meaty goodness of Lovecraft’s work attacking him in the real world…Cthulhu tentacles you say? Of course I’m in.
Bottom Line: If you are a fan of Lovecraft and/or the last issue, pick up issue 2. It’s kind of a steep price for a comic, but it’s oversized and is ad free!
