Why THIS Friday the 13th is important!
6:57pm, June 2, 2008

Are you superstitious? I am not, but I am a bit freaked that the last day of the shooting schedule is falling on Friday, June 13th.

So get this; the movie wraps on Friday the 13th and then the movie opens on the next Friday the 13th on the calendar, which is Friday, February 13th, 2009. Is that enough bad luck for you? Now we have two weeks left to shoot and anything could happen with the schedule, but it has become a crew wide mandate to wrap on that Friday the 13th. It's a point of pride...

So with two weeks left, let's recap. At this point the kills are now in double digits and span the gamut from blood filled and drawn out to quick and surprising. We have kills that fans will recognize, but we have added a twist or three - some kills that you have never seen before. The kids in this film also have a lot of fun... drinking, smoking weed and having sex. There are tons of all three.

And finally we have the big man with the machete. We have worked hard to create a Jason who is a cold blooded killing machine and Derek Mears has brought so much more to the iconic character. Derek, at his core is a huge horror geek and is constantly asking himself... "Would Jason do that?". It really elevates the film to have an actor who has so much respect for the character and franchise and is always concerned about keeping the character true to its roots. In fact, he is so committed that he got married during the shoot and only missed one day. Watch out because there is a Mrs. Voorhees who is owed a honeymoon...

Wings1295 8:19pm, June 2, 2008

Sounds great! Friday the 13th is a great day, as we all know. I hope the movie does finish right on this F13, and can't wait to see it on the next one!

Zombie Dude 9:22pm, June 2, 2008

Wow, so it's already time to start wrapping things up. I felt like you guys had only just started. I'm glad that the kills go into the double digits, this is going to be fun.

Zombie Dude 10:03pm, June 2, 2008

Thanks for the update, by the way.

jackmeat 10:16pm, June 2, 2008

good news all around. i think the ending and releasing on the 13th is just fitting overall.

disanti 12:40am, June 3, 2008

A little bummed there is no pic to go along with this, but an update is still an update. That is really cool that you got some of the iconic kills in there. So if you wrap on F13th...are you going to continue to post about the movie to the premier? There has to be a ton of post production to talk about I hope. Also, what's next for PD on the shooting schedule?

voorhees213 12:57am, June 3, 2008

Thanks for the update! Sounds pretty damn good - can't wait 'til 2-13-09!!

Cynthiab 2:46am, June 3, 2008

I love the double Friday the 13th karma - I'm sure it will be good luck for you guys. I hope you continue to post, love to learn more about all of the fun actors you have in the flick, maybe give us some behind the scenes stories. We're anxious for every little bit.

francesco 3:03am, June 3, 2008

ahhhhhhhh, i want to know more! come on give us some more! thanks brad

evilgooey 11:27am, June 3, 2008

How about one of those classic over the shoulder of Jason shots to calm the dogs at the gate? I cannot wait for 02-13-09!

tszilla 7:24pm, June 3, 2008

All the things I never wanted to see in the Halloween remake are exactly the things I'm looking forward to in F13.Bring on the double digit death toll, the casual sex and the weed!

Scream110 8:04pm, June 3, 2008

OK, I honestly can't wait for this. I really don't give a darn that this is a remake. I'll look at it as another Friday the 13th film that has everything fans want to see. Jason, blood'n'gore, kids smoking weed, drinking booze and having sex. What else could we ask for?

Spymunk 9:02pm, June 3, 2008

What I'd really like to hear from Platinum Dunes is what kind of thought process went into the making of the movie's script. I've been hearing a lot about double-digit kills, but I haven't been hearing a lot about the quality of the movie's script. I've been hearing a lot about drugs/nudity/sex, but I haven't been hearing much about the mythology that surrounds those elements. What apporoach did the writers take toward Jason? The director? I don't mean Jason's looks - I mean his motivations. Will we get a Jason who is true to the character? That's all I care about in this movie - they can change as much as they want as long as they keep the core elements that identify the world of FRIDAY THE 13TH. I'm not saying Platinum Dunes is withholding information, but I really would like to hear back from the guys writing these blogs with a little more detail of the characters and the approach than just promises of kills. In the CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES book, someone talks about why FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V - A NEW BEGINNING doesn't work as a movie, and points out that the movie had a huge number of kills. He remarks that you can tell a script isn't working when the writer has a big explosion of every page, because all there is ... is the shock. I really hope this movie isn't like that. I really hope the Platinum Dunes people pay attention enough to know that we who are fans of the series do care about Jason, his mom, Tommy Jarvis, and how the characters interact. We all have our favorite elemnets of this mythology and we want most of all to just go to the movie and have fun and have it feel like a good FRIDAY THE 13TH movie. Please write back and address this, Platinum Dunes!

Pat34 11:05pm, June 3, 2008

Sounds great Brad! How awesome is that...to wrap on Friday the 13th and open on Friday the 13th! Couldn't ask for better luck than that....even if it is on that "unlucky day". Great news guys and can't wait to hear more updates.....and to have an official 'Friday the 13th' remake movie site!

CinemaSuicide 11:28am, June 4, 2008

Please tell me that you guys have a sleeping bag slamfest in there somewhere.

right_hand_of_doom81 12:25pm, June 4, 2008

that is so awesome nevermind what spymonk has to say, cause that is just taking the friday movies to a whole new level of geek, and i am about a big a fan of the friday the 13th movies as anyone here, what im really intrested in is a preview for the movie, i mean seriously i would love to see one and finally see what the new jason looks like, besides the writer if you hadnt seen freddy vs jason before or ever then spymonk you will never know that damion swift and mark shannon are the go to guys for writing friday the 13th cause these guys understand completly what friday the 13th truelly is they do understand the movies, i have a concern tho i just hope and really hope that everything like the kills will not be cg like the hitcher when that famous tied to the two trucks scene happened, cause that just pissed me off cause i would like it to look atleast somewhat realistic cause even tho friday the 13th films all 8 from paramount and even new line, they had great special make up and gore effects artists like tom freaking savini! so i just hope they have some great top notch guys on there crew for that and again a preview of the movie!!!! i so wanna see it

www.myspace.com/fridaythe 3:07pm, June 4, 2008

How come you haven't approached the official Friday the 13th site with any exclusives? Bloody Disgusting aren't the only guys out there who write about movies!

magnaderalpha 3:47pm, June 4, 2008

I actually have to agree with Spymunk on this. I hope this isn't just "yet another high body count slasher with Jason". If that's the case, what would make it stand out. I mean, slashers are a dime-a-dozen. There were little magical things that actually made movies like Ft13, NOES, Halloween and TCM stand out above slashers like The Prowler, The Burning, and such. These "things" kinda ebbed away in the later installments, which Ft13 was becoming just pure "unstoppable zombie Jason killing everybody in his way". But again, that's basically late-80s horror in general, pure camp, more kills, more gore, more pointless sex, drugs and such. I guess the two different themes that reflect 70s-early 80s horror and late 80s-90s horror were "Why is this happening?"(70s-early 80s) and "Oh my god, this is HAPPENING!!"(late 80s-90s). It's the perfect representation of the times. Horror was kinda myster/gore/action/drama back in the day. Now, it's kinda the same as the late 80s, which is gore/action/comedy.

Madgoalie 4:24pm, June 4, 2008

I agree with Spymunk as well. While a large body count, sex, drugs, etc. is nice, I'm hoping some effort is being put forth to make this suspenseful.

disanti 5:02pm, June 4, 2008

Does anyone else remember reading a news post that the whole point of the re-make was to focus on Jason and his origins? If I am correct give me some back up on that one. There was also a scare of a possible PG-13 rating which got people grumbling. I think that they are giving us the reassurance that the sex/drug/violence of a F13th movie won't be missing whil we discover more about Jason. We know Jason's mom makes an appearance so maybe they are going reveal what happened to Jason after his "drowing/accident" in the lake and how he reacted to the death of his mother. If they pull an origin off correctly and have that trademark F13th body count...it's a win a win situation.

makaveddie81 7:49pm, June 4, 2008

I have to agree with Spymunk on this one. To be honest I am very iffy about Damian Shannon and Mark Swift penning the script. I have read their original Freddy VS Jason script and, though it is better than the huge pile of dog manure that we got, its still a terrible script. The dialog used throughout the entire script is laughable, not just the two infamous lines everybody complains about ("fire and water" "that's when he comes for you"). There are many silly concepts such as bong-toting centipede Freddy. There are too many failed comedic attempts which robs the film of a serious and chilling approach and gives it a teeny-bopper feel. The script has too many winks in it, such as Linderman using fridaythe13th.com for his research and Tommy Jarvis' name being mentioned (I seriously imagined the person smiling and winking to the camera while mentioning his name). Also, the ending that we got is vastly superior to what they wrote. I seriously hoped that Platinum Dunes would pick a writer with whom they worked with before (I was pulling for Scott Kosar as he worked in Dunes' best remakes TCM and Amityville). I feel like, though they are fans of the series, Shannon and Swift are amateurish and the final product will be a campy, full of "jokes" and not scary at all Friday. I want a realistic Friday, one where I can actually care about the characters which will result in Jason being more terrifying once he kills them. The TCM remake showed that real horror does not need jokes, over the top drug use or sex in every scene. Brad Fuller's blog mentions that there "The kids in this film also have a lot of fun... drinking, smoking weed and having sex. There are tons of all three". This statement pretty much confirms my assumptions about this movie. Agree or disagree? BTW, Shannon and Swift are the leading candidates to write the Nightmare on Elm Street remake (groans).

CampBlood1980 8:35pm, June 4, 2008

I also have to agree with Spymunk. If one of your main concerns is raising the bodycount, then the story & the characters will suffer-Not enough time for character development! My main concern for this movie was the writers from the get-go....And yes there was always herb-smoking in the Friday movies, but they were never heavily focused on it...well, maybe Part 3 at times. I just hope this isn't an exploitation of Friday The 13th cliche's. For example, I hope Jason doesn't walk around the whole movie with a machete, like in Freddy Vs. Jason. Hopefully it doesn't have any campiness, or teeniness to it. And I'm praying that they don't show Jason too much, walking around in broad daylight like the later Fridays. I loved it when you seen him lurking, or a pov shot. I don't worry about the special effects....if you watch the making of TCM: The Beginning, you'll see how they do the effects the old school way. All in all, it's too early to tell. I would get cold chills if the opening sequence of the movie had the screeching strings & fade to white....Old School style

makaveddie81 9:34pm, June 4, 2008

Great post Camp, couldnt have worded it better myself.

makaveddie81 5:17am, June 5, 2008

I seriously hope that this movie isnt rushed just for the sake of finishing on Friday June 13th. I hope we dont have a disaster like in FVJ in the cornfield scene where Jason totally misses a guy when he slashes the beer keg, but the guy has a big gash on his chest. That was totally unacceptable IMO.

francesco 10:29am, June 5, 2008

any references to freddy vs ????

disanti 12:31pm, June 5, 2008

FvJ was directed by Ronny Yu. That was more his style of directing than it was the writing. I think that if anyone is to blame for the "campiness" of FvJ...it's him. Nispel's directing will be 1000000x darker.

disanti 12:35pm, June 5, 2008

I don't know if I have said this yet. But if the ending of this movie is a remake of the cut ending from part 3 (Chris getting her head cut off) that might be the best thing I have ever seen.

Pyxis 1:29pm, June 5, 2008

While I'm pleased Platinum Dunes is taking the initiative and doing something with the Friday the 13th movies, I'm peeved ya'll didn't do something more creative and actually continue on. I am however looking forward to Derek Mears performance!!

CampBlood1980 7:51pm, June 5, 2008

You never know disanti, there could be an ending like that. If they're thinking of a sequel down the road, there just might not be any survivors in this. Possibly, the final scare of the movie when you think all is well, Jason comes out of nowhere & off's whoever is left. Leaving Jason still on the loose, and setup for another movie....Just an idea

disanti 1:40am, June 6, 2008

In the news post about FvJ a couple of days ago, Swift said he is planning on writing a sequel for both Friday and the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I think they are going to try and recapture that whole last minute scare anyway...just would like to see that particular scene or something similar.

voorhees213 3:38am, June 6, 2008

TO: disanti, CampBlood1980, & makaveddie81 - THANK YOU! this has got to be the most intelligent set of posts I have ever seen regarding a Friday flick. Usually it's a bunch of morons complaining about Kane Hodder only playing Jason 4 times, or some such s**t. & yes, disanti, I do remember the whole "Jason's origins" angle they were pitching before. Haven't really heard anything since.

voorhees213 4:58am, June 6, 2008

Speaking of Kane Hodder (I will be getting a bit off topic here), THANK GOD they stopped casting him as Jason. I don't mean for his performance (he's awesome) - I mean for his arrogance. He claims he got "screwed" out of the role for FvJ, and that "no one knows the character" like he does. I beg to differ. Kane has stated many times that the directors for VIII, JGTH, & JX wanted Jason to do things (like run) that Jason doesn't do, & he told them to basically go f**k themselves. OK, fine - can't you tell the FX/wardrobe guys that too? Case in point #1- JGTH: Jason gets blown to bits by the FBI, and we can see that the explosion took out his RIGHT eye, & part of the mask. One problem: that would leave Jason with exactly 0 eyes! (his left's been gone since ptIV). CIP #2- ptVIII: WTF????? Jason gets dragged to the bottom of CL at the end of VII, looking all badass w/the ribs, teeth, axe mark, & missing LEFT eye(they got it right that time), yet pops up on the boat with, like, 1 hole in his shirt, & gloves!! What, is there a Wal-Mart down there? I don't get it at all - you can tell the DIRECTOR to shove it(& risk your job), but not the production designer, wardrobe, or FX people? If he won't let Jason run, why would he let him look like s**t? Anyway, sorry for getting off topic, this should probably be posted in a different thread on a different board, I just typed "Kane Hodder" in my last post, & basically flipped out.

disanti 12:27pm, June 6, 2008

Well I think mostly everyone here is generally excited for this new movie to come out. We're all fans and we all want to see a finished product that doesn't end up coming out looking like a joke. I was excited when Jason X came out and I was excited when FvJ came out...but this is different. Not we are tapping into the roots of this series which could ulitmatley change the way people see friday the 13th. Hopefully Fuller was truthful in saying that he wouold read these posts to get a genereal knowledge of what the fans want.I think we have expressed some fair opinions on where this movie could go but more importantantly...where it should NOT go. I mean just ask Rob Zombie what happens when you piss of a legion of undying (or should i said undead? haha) loyal fans of a cult classic. Well, I guess besides just netflixing everything else you make from there on out, they also post blogs about how much you suck for years to come. This movie is important to a lot of people and especially to us movie dorks that love to read and post about every peice of info before a movie.

disanti 12:34pm, June 6, 2008

And on Kane Hodder...my thought is. Hey thanks for playing him 4 times. That's a big honor, but he did play him in 4 of the WORST installments of the series. CJ Graham was still the best Jason in a lot of people's opinions anyway. With the costume...I don't know if that is so much his fault. Jason has never repeated the same look twice. Sure Jane may have been able to say something...but does a special FX make-up artist hold the rights to his design? Tom Savini was the only FX artist to return in these movies and all he did was design a grown up Jason from his (what i like to call) "plankton boy" jason. Don't ask me why, plankton live in the sea and it's only lake vegitation on his head, but it's funny to say.

Spymunk 1:50am, June 7, 2008

Makeaveddie, CampBlood, Magnaderalpha - all great points. I agree 100%. The thing that concerns me most about this remake is the tone, how the moviemakers approach the mythology. It's not a geek thing - I don't care, as I said, if they change all kinds of story elements. What I am talking about is the suspense and the thrill of the stories at their best - like the drawn-out suspense of the last half of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, or the ending of the first movie that works so well because of the long pause before Jason leaps out of the water. Too often, Hollywood any more looks for the quick explosion of action and forgets that the explosions of action often have MUCH MORE MEANING when they're preceded by long moments of tension. I know the movie has wrapped, but reshoots and editing could still address this concern, which is why I am making my case, hoping against hope that the people who make this movie have either addressed this or will hear from all of us - the fans - that this is what we want, a thrilling and exciting and suspenseful movie. The best parts of the first two FRIDAY movies barely even feature Jason in full-camera view - he's a presence, in the shadows, or we see his boots, or we see things from his point-of-view and we know how close he is to characters we've come to care about because the movie took the time to introduce them to us properly, and give us a reason to care about them. The trouble is that every single thing I hear about this movie is all focused on drugs/sex/nudity/kills. Those elements are standards of the series, but they are INCIDENTAL. If you go back and look at the original movies, they featured some small amount of nudity/drugs/sex scattered throughout, but those things were never the focus of the story - the TENSION was the focus of the story - the ANCITIPATION of what was going to happen as opposed to what actually happens. The actual 'kills' are often very quick and shocking and the movies at their best cut away from the violence at just the right time - that's why the original and the first sequels work so well. As for FREDDY VS. JASON - it's the one Ft13th/NoES movie I don't own. I own every single other movie from both series, but I don't own the movie even though it's available at my local FYE for $3.00. The reason I don't own it is because I know I would absolutely never watch it. I saw it once and I got very little entertainment value out of it. I am honestly surprised that the movie gets as much positive commentary as it does - because it's pure cheesy camp disguised as homage, as far as I'm concerned, and there isn't a single moment of dramatic tension in the entire thing. Furthermore, I personally think that the movie really takes a cinematic dump on the legacies of two horrific characters. It's not a scary film, first of all, and there are innumerable scenes that make me cringe: the hooka-Freddy, the pinball-machine sound effects as Freddy slings Jason around the ceiling, the fire/water speech (that whole scene sounds like someone was writing notes while the writers were having a brainstorming session and incorporated the conversation into the movie - "How can we use that?"), the flashback that's essentially a giant parody of FRIDAY THE 13TH, Jason mouth-to-mouth, Jason being doused in alcohol and set on fire during a rave. The list goes on and on, and it's that kind of goofiness that I'm hoping is absent from the series. However, everything I hear from PLATINUM DUNES on this website seems to be in the "camp" camp. "More is more! We've gone over the top! We're throwing in massive kills! Massive drugs! Massive sex! Massive nudity!" It's going to feel so totally artificial and inorganic that it's going to detract from any tension. Please, Platinum Dunes. It's not too late. Don't make a trailer that shows happy campers at Crystal Lake and then shows them all dying with ironic music playing and a shadowy shot of Jason. The trailers for the TCM remake were great in tone, and that's what I'm hoping for from FRIDAY THE 13TH. Before you think I hate Platinum Dunes - I'll let you know I prefer the TCM remake to the original! I like your AMITYVILLE HORROR. I disliked THE HITCHER, but I don't think you guys are terrible. I just think that it's possible to get so caught up in the effort to make "the most awesomest" movie that maybe people are forgetting the quiet moments that make these movies really work - long shots, tension, silence, drama, character. PLEASE don't abandon these. I'm hoping someone from PD will respond - if not to me, specifically, then to thse issues, basically telling us the approach the script takes, what kind of tone is being sought. I want this movie to work for the fans, because I AM a fan. You'll get my money guaranteed, probably two or three times, because of how much I love FRIDAY THE 13TH. I'm hoping you'll respect my comments and consider them, at the very least, when you go into the editing room or the music room or the test-screening room. Give it a try. Let us know what your "plans" are for these characters, this movie, the tone of it. Please?

francesco 9:30am, June 7, 2008

call me crazy...but...i'm already thinking about a sequel to this movie.

disanti 12:13pm, June 7, 2008

A Friday the 13th sequel...do they make those? haha I'm just playing around. Spymunk man..I wish my ADD allowed me to read through that novel 100%, but just like college, I think I'm good with the cliffnotes. I smell what you're stepping in, but I'm not sure you are going to see an updated version of part 2 when this comes out. All your points are very valid, but I think besides us loyal fans, they also need to target a new audience as well. The Part 2 style alone won't work with the kids of today...they'll say the movie is boring. I might even agree to some extent. What I hope happens is that time is given to learn about the charcaters and someone what of a main theme/storyline to follow. I know there is the set up of a back story of a girl. If you read the news post about the openning scene of the movie. There a girl who looks similar to a girl in a picture in Jason's shack. SO maybe they are setting something up there...I don't know. For the rest of the movie, I just hope they give us just enough to learn about the characters and find them...likeable or even just tolerable. I might get bashed for this one...but part 5...I don't hate it as much as everyone else. Yea, Jason's not really in it, it's a bummer. What makes me want to watch it again is because of some of the supporting characters. The argument at the car between the two guido greasers, the waitress and her boyfriend who has forcasts flurries up his nose, and Demon and his "Damn Enchiladas!" They're funny to watch, they die a horrible death, and then you go back to following Tommy. With susepense...I kind of want to see soemthing to the tune of the TCM Remake of Jessica Biel getting chased by LF suspense. When leatherface jumped on her in the meat plat, it was the first time I jumped in a movie theatre in a while. I don't want there just to be kill after kill of "hah got ya, your're dead, who's next?" type of thing either. I'd like to see people running through the woods, seeing the light of day and right before they make it, DEAD! Just when you thought things were ok for a little bit, shit he's right there type thing. And not obviously there like in F13th Part 7...where he's just standing around waiting for you. I will say that the characters in FvJ were not likeable at all. If it's too obvious that they are "try to stay true to the series" then it's overkill. Like the first scene in FvJ with the firl, OBVIOUS. The CGI Crystal Lake scene in JX, although meant to be, OBVIOUS. Sure, it's funny, but only about for 2 seconds and then we want the dark tone to come back. To sum this up...as Fans I believe we won't say no to the nudity/drugs/sex and awesome kills. We will welcome it, but don't let it get in the way of the suspense or the story line. I love me some tits in my F13th movies...but don't let it turn into just having a little F13th in a tits movie. Get what I'm saying? <p> yea...i said a tits movie.

disanti 12:20pm, June 7, 2008

PS: sorry for all the typos in that last post. I'm sans coffe at work on a Saturday morning. Can someone install spell check on this message board?

Madgoalie 1:18pm, June 7, 2008

Another great post, Spymunk and disanti. Couldn't agree more with what's been said. Another thing I'd like to see is a thunderstorm with pouring rain. All the best Fridays seem to have one..1,2,4. It defintely goes a long way in creating the mood/atmosphere.

Spymunk 4:46pm, June 7, 2008

You make great points, Disanti. I agree with most everything you said. I even like some elements from Part V (the development and focus on Tommy and taking time to develop him and show him without Jason attacking him the entire time, brief though those scenes turn out to be in the total running time of the movie). I also know that it's too much to hope for or expect Part 2 Redux out of this movie. What I am hoping is that the creative people will talk about these elements a little.

makaveddie81 8:33pm, June 7, 2008

SPYMUNK you are on fire man!!! I agre 100% with everything you said. I'm serious, I agree with every sentence you wrote (and yes I did read all of it TWICE!). I think it's too late for Dunes to fix Shannon and Swift's mess. Judging from the character descriptions we got plus their bragging on the amount of sex/drugs/weed/kills we're going to get the campiest F13 ever. I guess we'll have to rely on the sequel to pull off a perfect Friday.

makaveddie81 8:41pm, June 7, 2008

Take a look at the lame characters that we're going to get for this new film: WHITNEY Caucasian. Mid 20s. Younger sister to Clay. Pretty and strong girl. She has the smarts and the will to survive in the most desperate of circumstances. CLAY Caucasian. Late 20s. Older brother of Whitney. He's good-looking and has a quiet inner confidence. He's a dedicated and smart guy. All the girls definitely find him attractive. CHUMBLER Caucasian, early to mid-20s. A little chubby, but he wears his size well, along with his cool chin beard. He has a tendency to make wear his attraction to attractive girls on his sleeve. He has no shame. Please submit your funniest character actors. **LAME JOKES HERE WE COME!!! I WONDER IF HE'LL SAY SOMETHING FUNNY BEFORE JASON DISPATCHES HIM... WOW I CANT WAIT TO FIND OUT!!! IT'S GOING TO BE SO EASY TO TAKE A CHARACTER NAMED CHUMBLER SERIOUSLY, JUST LIKE STUBBS AND FREEBURG** TRENT Caucasian, early to mid-20s. The Alpha-Male. He's got money, and he wants you to be his friend... especially if you can do something for him. **TREY? IS THAT YOU? I WONDER IF HE'LL BE A DICK TO JENNA??? I CANT WAIT!!!** JENNA Caucasian, early to mid-20s. Trent's date for the weekend. She's great-looking, athletic, and the adventurous type. We wonder why she would be with Trent. LAWRENCE Black, early to mid-20s. Good-looking and funny as hell. He's smart and is already trying to get his own company started. He puts on a white sounding "good ol' boy" voice when talking to his business associates. **MORE LAME-O-JOKES YES!!! I WONDER IF HE'LL SAY SOMETHING FUNNY LIKE "BROTHAS DONT BE PLAYIN HOCKEY MOTHAFUCKA!!!" THAT WOULD BE WILD!!!** NOLAN He wears a T-shirt that says F**K CHRISTMAS - The asterisks are snowflakes. But when an older woman walks by, he crosses his arms, covering it. Nolan poses as a rebel, but he's just as square as the rest of us. **I HOPE HE DOESNT DIE, I REALLY CARE ABOUT HIS SHIRT CUZ ITS FUNNY AND ALL** CHELSEA Attractive college girl. Friends with BREE, but not as sexy. **PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED. HMMM NUDITY FOR WHAT???** BREE Attractive friend to Chelsea, definitely the sexier of the two, and she dresses to make sure you can tell the difference. Hot as Hell! WADE Caucasian, mid-20s. He's technologically inclined... at least enough to use a GPS Receiver. He knows the story about Camp Crystal Lake and he tells it to his crew around a campfire. MIKE Caucasian, mid-20s. Whitney's boyfriend. He's a genuine and logical guy. He makes sure that his friends, and especially Whitney, are safe and taken care of. He's a really nice guy. AMANDA Caucasian, mid-20s, voluptuous. Perfectly tanned and sexy. She's into Richie...at least for the weekend. **PARTIAL NUDITY REQUIRED HMMM NUDITY YOU SAY?** RICHIE Caucasian, mid-20s. Funny and definitely attracted to Amanda. He doesn't waste time making a move on her. **FUNNY PICKUP LINES HERE WE COME!!!** I see a lot of parallels between these characters and FVJ characters.

Spymunk 11:46pm, June 7, 2008

Those character profiles are troubling, if they're true, because of the details more than anything else. I'm especially disappointed by the character description of Lawrence, whom I hope they don't make into an offensive joke at the attempt to avoid being PC. Sometimes, being too PC or un-PC is worse than being "insensitive." Just make Lawrence a decent character, regardless of race, and you'll be fine!

They are true, heres the link http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/10446

Halloween_Night 3:28pm, June 8, 2008

Spymunk is right. I personallu think FVJ was a cool film, I mean come on did you really expect FVJ to be some dark serious film? I didn't, to me it was good for what it was. BUT! Yes theres a but, lol. I do not want this remake to feel like FVJ. As everyone have said, this remake should take the series back to it's roots. And what do I mean by roots? Well introduce us to the characters, let us get to know them for a while. Also, please do not show Jason all the damn time, as a matter of fact, keep him in the shadows till the last act. What i'm trying to say is, follow in the footsteps of part 4:the final chapter. That one is considered the best in the series, why? Well it had normal people in a terrifying situation. A mother and her two kids trying to fend off this brutal intruder. Thats how this remake should be, it should be dark and horrible. I don't want to pay my money to watch fithy million sex scenes, if thats the case i'll just stay home and watch porn. I'm not saying don't have sex or drugs, thats what F13 is about, but they should be scatered throughout like in the original films. As for the kills, in final chapter, the kills were brutal and horrible and I want you guys to go all over the top BUT don't forget the tension and suspense leading up to the kills. I like how you guys said you have some out of the blue kills whis I like but FVJ had too many out of the blue kills and it was to the point where the kills didn't mean anything. But it does sound like you guys have a great balance in between the two. Bottomline, follow the final chapter's lead and focus on whats IMPORTANT, then worry about the trivial stuff later. I expect to be SCARED when I see this movie. PS. RZ Halloween was pretty good, but the biggest mistake was them showing myers all the damn time.

Halloween_Night 11:51pm, June 8, 2008

Oh and I have faith in you guys, I LOVED TCM and know you'll knock this out of the park but please let us know that you're trying recapture the feeling of the original four movies! I mean if all this remake is just sex, drugs and gore, why not have called this Friday the 13th part 12 and be done with it? But maybe you guys are just trying to assure us the it will be R rated, I hope so. And I hope all that good talking you guys were doing about studying the first four films when the remake was announced is true. Oh and please keep the score simelar to the first four films as much as you can.

disanti 1:51am, June 9, 2008

I'm not surprised that some of the characters have comic despcriptions. I mean Shelly was a goofball and ended up being one of the most loved characters in the series. He gave Jason the mask! Ted and Jimmy from part 4 were pretty funny and were in one of the best installments of the series. You have to remember that Nispel is Directing this movie...not Ronny Yu. Ronny Yu went over the top on cheese and ruined the dark vibes of both Freddy and Jason. It's in directors hands, not the writers on how these characters come across. Nispel is in no way similar to Ronny Yu by any means. Nispel is dark and he's proven it. He kept TCM dark and the characters grounded/believeable. I am sure he will make sure his characters stay in check for this movie as well. Chumbler ended up being played by Aaron Yoo who is asian by the way. There are actual faces to these names now and we know how most of these people act. As long as Jason is not taken out by another Chris, Tina, or Lori Campbell I'll be happy. In my opinion they were some of the worst characters of all time.....and way more annoying than any funny fat kid.

francesco 3:51am, June 9, 2008

PLEASE!!! MAKE A GREAT OPEN ENDING! NO ARMS LOST OR SOMETHING WE WANT JASON READY FOR THE SEQUEL!!!! OH YESSSSSSSSS!

Halloween_Night 3:45pm, June 9, 2008

Disanti you're right. I beleiive this will be dark and gritty, I just want them to reassure us that this film will be bringing back the feeling that the first four films gave us. I wanna be on the edge of my seat when I see this. But yeah, Ronny Yu is only good for cheesy slasher films like bride of chucky, FVJ and he'll be good for a Chucky VS Leprechaun. Marcus will do a goodjob, after all, he did an excelent job with TCM.

Spymunk 10:21pm, June 9, 2008

Halloween Night, you're absolutely right. That's part of the reason I have been pushing so hard on this subject, hoping against hope that the creative people will read this message board and see what we're asking for with this movie, what we're practically begging for with it. PLEASE DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, PLATINUM DUNES. PLEASE MAKE THIS MOVIE SCARY! TCM, the remake, was scarier to me than the original, even, because it took the time to build up the characters and the world. I'm hoping that this movie does the same. I also hope Brad will see our posts and respond even in passing not specifically to me but to all the Ft13 fans out there who have spoken out about how strongly we feel - not about a plot piece, or a character change - because those are less important to me (and I think most fans) than the TONE and STYLE of the movie. Is it campy? Is it serious? Let us know, Platinum Dunes, please?

disanti 11:46pm, June 9, 2008

Has platinum dunes released anything campy yet? The answer is no and I don't think they are going to start now. Everything they have released has tried as hard as possible to stay true to the oringal. I FINALLY got netflix to send me The Hitcher. It's tough to top Rutger Hauer or even C Thomas Howell in that movie. So, it ended up not being one of my favorite movies they have made. The effort was there to stay true to the original and you have to give them that much credit. I'm am one fan who doesn't think this movie is going to be campy at all. The is not a 100% New Line produced film. So any worries you have gatherd from watching JGTH, JX, or FvJ should go out the window. The re-set button has been pushed for this series. Before we are start swarming like a bunch of angry bees...let's see/hear more from what has come out of the PD camp. So far it's been good.

dem13 12:03am, June 10, 2008

i hope the producers give us a surprise this friday the 13th...(like the new Jason photo...) it's an important date, they should give us something to remember it...

Halloween_Night 12:13am, June 10, 2008

I don't wanna see Jason till the last act of the movie. But i'm excited to see how he looks, lol.

Spymunk 3:30am, June 10, 2008

Disanti - I haven't seen or heard anything specifically campy just yet, but what started to bother me was that word started coming out that sounded like this: "We have tons of kills! Tons of sex! Tons of drug-use! Tons of nudity!" I think/hope I know why they said all this, to assure us it wouldn't e a PG-13 sort of movie a la PROM NIGHT's remake, but ... I still can't help thinking that the tone doesn't sound as serious as it might be. I want the movie to be supernatural in tone, but realistic at the same time - a difficult balancing act. TCM actually pulled it off - making it seem eerie and otherworldly while rooting it in reality.

disanti 4:04am, June 10, 2008

I guess we won't really know for sure what this movie is going to be like until we start seeing more pictures, interviews, and trailers. Until then, all we can do is speculate. All of this has been really fun though, right? We've picked apart every last bit of information that has been released about this movie. That's true dedication by the fans to do our best to try and reach out to those calling the shots. With Production wrapping up this Friday, I hope that what has been talked about on these boards has been heard well. So many good points have been made so I don't see why not at least one, if not some, of them should have be taken into account. As much as this has been for Fuller to talk to the fans, we have taken this as an opportunity to talk right back to Fuller and the rest of PD. Personally, I can't wait for more information to argue and speculate about. This is all going to lead up to the excitement of going the theatre in 8 months and 3 days. The best part is...this has only just begun.

makaveddie81 4:52am, June 10, 2008

**TO SPYMUNK, DISANTI, CAMPBLOOD.. SORRY TO DISSAPOINT YOU, BUT HERE ARE A FEW NUGGETS FROM VARIOUS SET VISITS:** http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.p hp?id=6458 "We were looking for a story - for lack of a better word - that was really fun," Fuller explains to ShockTillYouDrop.com at the outset of another night's-worth of shooting on the Austin, Texas location (substituting for New Jersey). "We felt a lot of the horror movies, including our own, were so dreary that we wanted to take a step away from that and bring in the horror, which you have to have, and bring in some great characters and funny, amusing situations. Out of all the writers we met with [Mark and Damian] were the only ones that had a handle on that portion of the movie. But the kids you go on this journey with are so fun and are a blast to be around." **So they judged scripts based on comedy instead of horror? No wonder S&S won out. F13 is a comedy? that's news to me. In that case why not hire the Wayans Brothers? They're stepping away from what worked, there goes my hopes of this being similar to TCM Remake.** http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?categ ory=0&id=55530 "Much of Jason's backstory will be told in flashbacks and will include moments with a young Jason, as well as with Pamela (played by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Nana Visitor). The producers are also taking a Batman Begins approach to the mythology and will explain for the first time why the movie is called Friday the 13th, why Jason is a serial killer, where he's been, why he puts on a sack and then a hockey mask, why a machete, how he gets around Camp Crystal Lake, etc. etc." **It's not that hard to figure out why Jason is a serial killer. Why the hell do they have to answer EVERYTHING down to Jason's weapon of choice to his preferences in attire? ARE THEY SERIOUS??? Are they also going to explain Jason's color preference when it comes to his wardrobe? or why he arranged his shack's interior a certain way?** http://chud.com/articles/articles/15073/1/SET-VIS IT-PREVIEW-FRIDAY-THE-13TH/Page1.html "Jason's face, meanwhile, is a strong mix of Part II's Mountain Man - he's got hair on his head" http://www.splatterfilms.com/news/07/29207.ph p Its an interview with Mears. He says jason has a hump sports combat boots (FVJ Frankenstein boots anyone???) and (to quote Mears) a "giant Frankenstein Jacket" (FVJ jacket anyone???) They promised us a look similar to parts 3 and 4. In what part of those movies did Jason have hair or a hump and sport a fucking combat jacket and combat boots??? I think these morons are watching the wrong movies... I have officially given up on this film. What a stinkin joke...

makaveddie81 5:03am, June 10, 2008

“We don’t want FRIDAY THE 13TH to be campy,” Fuller asserts, “but there will be laughs in it. There’ll be girls in it running around scantily clad, I hope. There’s going to be fun and chases. The reaction in FINAL DESTINATION—those kills were so clever and smart. You laughed, but you weren’t laughing because it was stupid, you laughed because it was out-there and crazy. That’s as close as I can tell you to what we want. We don’t want to continue making movies that are dreary. SAW and HOSTEL are excellent at that, and those aren’t places we want to be competing.” There goes my hopes for a TCM Remake type film

makaveddie81 5:08am, June 10, 2008

I HOPE YOU READ ALL MY POSTS FULLER... YOU TO DAMIAN SHANNON AND MARK SWIFT

Spymunk 9:54am, June 10, 2008

Thanks, Veddie. Those posts really bring to light why I started posting in here in the first place, and they ALL strongly suggest that this movie will be exactly all the the things FREDDY VS. JASON was. I suspect, too, that dreary=serious. They're not going to take the material seriously, not treat it as if it's really going on in the world of the story, and worst of all they'll have characters running around saying things like "This sort of thing only happens in a horror movie!" Cue the waaaah-waaaaah-waaaaaah. See, I do not care that Jason has a hump. But I do care that they give him the presence onscreen that made him into the monster legend he is. I'm guessing flashbacks will occur as people tell campfire tales or something. I don't like the idea of explaining all of Jason's prowess. He kills out of revenge for his own suffering and his mother's - do we need a bigger motivation than that? He uses a machete because it's a deadly weapon. Do we need more than that? I am anticipating one of those awful moments like INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE where all the major symbols and elements of Jason's life get crammed together into a wacky sequence that tells us what he's all about, and I hope that the trailer comes soon, now, so we can all see that this campy style isn't there.

disanti 12:14pm, June 10, 2008

OK so I got up this morning and got a little pissed off reading that post by veddie. That info really put a damper on things...until I went and read all the articles IN FULL. I don't feel like pulling quotes out, but what was said in the actual FULL articles still doesn't scare me too much. I excpect humor in a Friday the 13th movie. I want some in it and that seems to be where they were heading with those comments. It's going to be how they blend it in so we don't know yet what the entire mood is. What Friday the 13th movie is 100% dark anyway...wouldn't that be straying from the originals? The Jacket is not a frankenstien jacket cause it's large...it's because they made a jacket out of two jackets...read the whole thing. It's made up of a military style jacket and a dickies type jacket because they liked both. SO they used both of them to make one "frankenstein" jacket. Get it? I don't think the hump will be as noticeable as you think because in the Mears interview he had to point it out. As long and he's not dragging his leg through the woods yelling "master! master!" that's cool with me. His boots are old worn out combat/hunting boots that "he probably stole off of a hunter." That seems about right to the original. With his face, it is said that it;s a mix of part 2 and 4. Which will be interesting to see, but it sticks with the originals. As far as his back story, it's stated not to be the main focus, but will be injected into the movie as needed. I'm sure he kills because he got treated like shit as a kid and then had his mother killed. We never saw those thing from his point of view. Where was he when his mom got her head chopped off? I want to know where the hell we was for all those years. If you go into these articles looking for the worst, that is what you are going to pull out of them. Go back and really read all of those articles. Dreary doesn't = serious. Dreary = Dreary. TCM, Amityville, the hitcher all had no fun. There's never really too much smiling going on is there? In F13th there is a lot of it. People are having fun in these movies and making us laugh. That's one of the reason we like the characters so much. They will have their fun and then the laughing will stop once they find themselves in the crosshairs of a 6'5" killing machine. It's even said in one of the posts that even though they weren't trying to be dreary, that a scene with Jason had the TCM look. You see what's going on here? When it's just the kids...it's fun. When Jason is involved the mood changes. The best way to scared someone is to do it when they least expect it. Keep some of the mood light will set up those dark moments where everyones faces will change expression. I am still looking forward to this 99.9% like I always have. I do leave that tiny bit of room for this movie to go wrong, but I haven't seen too much that makes me think that. Thanks for all those article posts though...great read to start the day.

Halloween_Night 1:26pm, June 10, 2008

ERRRRRRRRR. I knew this was going to feel just like FVJ!!!!! WTF are they talking about they don't want the film to feel "dreary"? The past few years horror movies haven't been feeling dreary and thats the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE STRANGERS brought back that serious element and it worked!!!!! ERRRRRRR. Why not have just called this Friday the 13th part 12(or part 11, where ever you put Jason X) and just have been done with it? You guys are making a mistake in treating this like FVJ.

Halloween_Night 1:34pm, June 10, 2008

DISANTI. I just read your post and you probably right. With Final Destination 4 I heard that the main characters will think its all a big joke but when their names become next on deaths list the tone of the movie and their personaility's will get serious. Kinda like in Hostel. I guess thats what they are doing with F13. I just want to be scared, thats all I want. I want it to feel just like the final chapter. Also, Jason has a jacket? Sigh, I didn't like the jacket he had in FVJ but hopefully its all good. And I agree with veddie, explaining too much takes away from the character. I think explaining a little film by film is great, so don't put all of Jason's card on the table with this movie.

Halloween_Night 1:47pm, June 10, 2008

I just read the reports in full and it sounds GREAT! JASON RUNS AGAIN!!!!!! YAY!!!! I'm excited and I love how they are not doing an origin story, thats kinda what ruined HALLOWEEN(2007).

disanti 2:04pm, June 10, 2008

In FvJ it looked like he was wearing about 10 layers of clothes. He's supposed to look leaner and meaner so I don't think a jacket will take away from that. I mean think of a military or dickies jacket, they are not bulky really. They also said he's wearing a thin shirt underneath with holes in it. He's not going to bulked in clotheing like FvJ. Anything is better than the friggin overauls from part 2 though haha. Which reminded me...when he steps in that puddle at the beginning of part 2...he's wearing shitty old hunting/work boots. I'm a little worried about the hump and make up though I won't like. It's on thing to look deformed...but I hope it's not over the top. I want to believe someone can actually look like he appears in the movie. I did read that the mask was spot on though...that's a plus!

Halloween_Night 2:18pm, June 10, 2008

I heard its simelar to part 3 and 4's mask! Jason in FVJ was a look that I had to get used to, at first I hated it. But its o....k but it did look like he was wearing a million clothes. Also, Whitney sounds alot like Chris to me.

disanti 2:49pm, June 10, 2008

Good...I hope she thinks that she's made it and then get's her head chopped off.

Halloween_Night 5:27pm, June 10, 2008

I would actually like that ending. Then they could set the sequel a day or so apart and have Jason actually go into the town aka final chapter.

Okay, I have a LOT to get off of me chest with you greedy, money-hungry bastards. I made this account specifically for the occasion. First off, haven't you prematurely ended enough Horror franchises TCM, F13, and now A Nightmare On Elm Street? Not only this, but Robert Englund will not be replaying Freddy!!? If you remake ANOES, that is one thing, but an actor other than Robert Englund playing Freddy Krueger!!? That is downright blasphemous!!! There is no need for the original Nightmare to be remade, it has aged elegantly, and holds up even to today's standards. (Which actually are quite low, due to talentless hacks like you.) However, since for whatever reason you feel the urge to do so, ($$$) just give the fans Robert Englund as Freddy. If not as Freddy, give him at least ten minutes of screen time in a cameo or whatever. If not, then I swear to God that I will start the greatest cinematic boycott ever known against your film. Me and my friends will do whatever we can in our power to prevent your films from making money, boycotts, posting spoilers in the anticipation Threads on theinternet, anything that can possibly take that extra 8 bucks away from you. So please, for the love of the fans, (And for your love of money.) let Robert Englund play Freddy. If not, then I hope that anybody and everybody and their entire families at platinum deuche (OOPS! That's not a Typo!!) rot in Hell you talentless, greedy, selfish, money-hungry low-life hacks.
