It's a wrap, the new Elm Street is in the can!

It's over - at least shooting is. I feel like I just ran a marathon. Though I will never know the actual feeling of finishing a marathon - I reckon this is what it feels like. Week after week of night shoots, distant locations and extreme weather, all taking its toll on all of us. Many of my other marathoners share the same 1000 yard stare I've got going. All of us simply spent.
But all that effort, time and pain was for a great cause. We did it all for Freddy. To realize our dream of bringing him back... the way we remember him. Scary, mean and nasty. Now I know it will be hotly debated here, but I can tell you I am proud of what we did. Proud that Jackie Earle Haley was uncompromising in his desire to create a Freddy that is uniquely his own creation. Proud of Andrew Clement for his desire to create a look that will shock and scare you. You will surely recognize Freddy, but he is distinctively different, more real, and more burned. Jackie and Clement spent four hours a day painstaking applying all the make-up, appliances, texture before coming to shoot. And when we were all done at the end of the day they had to stay for at least another hour to take it off. For those of you keeping score at home that is 5 hours a day, on top of 12 hour shooting days. Those among you who are so closed-minded that you can't fathom anyone else playing the role, you are idiots. So much time and effort put into bringing Freddy back and you dismiss him before you've seen his efforts, it's just stupidity. See what we've done and then pass judgment; but there isn't a person out there who can tell me Jackie isn't a terrifying, inspired, awesome Freddy. I am grateful to Bloody Disgusting for its early support of that idea and can confidently tell you that choice was simply inspired.
Sam Bayer suffered for this movie. He pushed himself so hard that I worried that he couldn't maintain his pace, yet he did. No one had more sleepless nights than Sam - replaying the day's events over and over in his head, questioning how to make it scarier, better. We would often have breakfast together before shooting and he was never content. If he was concerned that he could improve on a scare, he and our first ad, Myron, would figure out our schedule so we could shoot the scene until Sam felt it was as good as it could be. Sam has very high standards and he was unrelenting. He brought all his experience to those nightmares and they are outstanding - if you aren't familiar with his work, check him out on YouTube, he is a great visual artist.
Making movies is like riding a unicycle down a steep hill. And when I read this back it seems like this movie was a dream shoot. Not true - we had all sorts of challenges on every level, but what was great about making this film was that we all had the same goal in mind. It really felt like a team effort to get to the finish line. And for me personally, when the end did come I didn't want it to.
I know the blog has been quiet lately, but after I've rested a bit I will start posting more.
A couple other things. Pay attention to Comic Con, we will have a couple of surprises for you there. If everything goes as planned we will reveal something special there.
Also, I am twittering and posted a few behind-the-scenes photos, so keep checking here and Twitter for updates.
One, two...

* this is to brad, andrew & platinum dunes reguarding the friday the 13th SEQUEL and some really fresh ideas to consider for it...
i wrote already about how using some kind of storyline involving Jason's FATHER is a golden idea, one it's never done before in any of the 12 films... I ALSO thought of another great idea involving Jason's FATHER, and that is this: Ive noticed Jason isnt just "kinda retarded" he's obviously mangled in the face, but this too is also never explained and I think the PERFECT tied together explanation is that Jason's Father ELIAS is the one responsible for Jason's mangled face, because it's OBVIOUS Pamela Voorhees loved Jason too much to ever mangle his face in anyway, so how did it become so? Drowning isnt gonna cut away your face and make it look blistery like in the latest Jason, I liked the latest one, I honestly dont know why so many people complained, everybody wanted Jason to go back to crystal lake, you guys did that, everybody wanted to see young Jason and Pamela, you guys did that too, I can see how you guys really try your best to please the fans more than people appreciate. with that being said, from a huge fan of the franchise and im not against ANY of the 12 films in the franchise, they are all simply slasher films with fun, Id watch a Jason movie over the shitty Saw films anyday. So...to sum it up guys... For the Friday the 13th Sequel consider these ideas: *Include Jason's FATHER in this film some how some way for some reason, my suggested reason is to use a storyline explaining that his father Elias Voorhees was the one responsible for mangling his son Jason's face. *ALSO consider using the idea that perhaps Elias was actually having sex with a counseler while Jason "drowned" or "almost drowned" and that would be a pretty cool revelation as well. I just think there's got to be more to the mangled face idea because there's no reason or logical explanation ever really given. The original films kind of made Jason more grotesque with each film so it was a growing process, but in this remake/reboot he's already mangled as hell...but why? He wasnt mangled when he saw his mom killed just a bit inbred looking, you could even use something wacky like Elias was really like Pamela's brother or cousin to explain the retardation...but that storyline might not be too excepted well. but im just offering my two cents as a fan of this franchise. YOu could also easily insert some kind of idea mentioning that Elias was with the counseler and got caught but fled leaving the girl to defend for herself, and since Pamela is decapitated she never had a chance to go after him next, and so Elias disappeared for years and now has returned (for some reason youd have to make up) to crystal lake either to Help or Kill his boy. *And, although this following was NOT my idea, but from a user who posted it on here somewhere I saw a while back and their idea, which is awesome, is to actually do something involving snow for a damn change, I think it would be quite creepy to see Jason standing there as it is snowing and we pan in slowly all the way up into his eyes waht a awesome creepy moment that would be, but that doesnt mean it has to all take place in snow as I know the dick users are gonna be closed minded on that one, but most certainly it could be considered in the opening of the film and really catch people off guard with interest. I hope you guys consider my thoughts above, and this all was written specifically for Platinum Dunes to read and consider these ideas, I didnt write these for the users because there's always gonna be 1/4 who are closed minded dicks who get mad when they dont get their ba-ba. So, Brad and Andrew...if you guys like the suggestions above and want me to shell out more good ideas for a script writer to use, feel free to send me a message on here. im full of good ideas, im not educated in films at all but Ive certainly seen more movies than I probably should in my life, so I know a good idea because I have a pretty good idea of what ideas have been done or not done and what might be cool to do, to offer something a little extra for this special "13th" Friday the 13th sequel!! | MrDisgusting 12:40pm, July 12, 2009
I love hearing about Bayer going back to fix things he didn't like. It's happens all too often that many directors just "call it in" -- and it always shows. |
 | staindFAN 1:26pm, July 12, 2009
Love you guys over at Platinum Dunes. Everything you have done I have really enjoyed, that includes F13 too. Can't wait to see a pic of Jackie's Freddy! Any chance we will get another Texas Chainsaw Massacre out of you guys??? Keep up the good work PD! |
 | TwistedFate_L4 2:09pm, July 12, 2009
I'm soooo glad you guys felt the need to make it scarier and scarier every chance you got! Its time we got not only a scary Nightmare flick, but a scary film in general! |
 | I AM THE EGG MAN 2:40pm, July 12, 2009
Come on. This film will not be scary at all. You guys over at Platinum Dunes wouldn't know scary if it bit you in the ass. Jackie Earl Haley will probably be this film's only saving grace. He's a remarkable actor. Too bad the script sucks. Just like the Friday remake, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Amityville remake, and Hitcher remake, this film will suck. The only thing Platinum Dunes has ever done that was even remotely good was the TCM remake. That had to have been luck. What's the matter, do you guys think you can ever make an original horror film that isn't PG-13? Is there enough brains over there at your offices to give someone the chance to make something truly scary? Oh, I forgot, your company is run by Michael Bay. Your films make money. They're front loaded as hell, and don't have much life beyond their opening weekends though. Sure, they may move some units on DVD, but in twenty years, who's gonna care? Congratulations, Platinum Dunes will always be remembered as the purveyor of crap. You guys must be proud. |
 | The-Boogeyman 2:41pm, July 12, 2009
I was originally opposed to this idea. But now I can't fucking wait. Seems like that have answered the true fan's prayers by giving us a scary Freddy again. Bayer sounds like he really knew what he was doing. It all sounds good to me. Right now I'm like a little kid before Christmas morning. Can't wait to see the new nasty bastard Freddy! |
 | shredneckjs 2:52pm, July 12, 2009
The thing that made Freddy Krueger original, WAS a little of that sense of humor. And changing him from a murderer to a molester is a bad choice. Killing and murder in movies hits a primal nerve in the human psyche, kid diddling does not. I'm sure you'll throw some Fall Out Bou songs on the soundtrack and try to make it current, like the guitar hero references, but it just won't be fun. I'm not going to see it out of curiosity, because I'm not a self hating horror fan that complains and than pays 9 dollars anyways. Good luck glorifying child molestation for fun and profit. |
 | massdeath 3:10pm, July 12, 2009
I hope this is good. Friday the 13th was decent but could have been so much more. No more slasher cliches! |
 | CornStalker515 3:12pm, July 12, 2009
Guys (Brad, Andrew, Sam, etc.), i personally think your remakes are one a kind and are scarier than most of the shit thats out there. You have your own spin on things and that's what I like so much about it. I was watching Amityville Horror the other night for the first time and I must say I was scared shitless. I can't wait for A Nightmare On Elm Street and a F13 sequel too. I even ask that you release A Nightmare sooner than April bc I just cant wait that long for another good scare or excitment like I got with F13. And too all you haters out there, you need to realize that these films tell a compelling story while scaring you. Its not just all about blood, guts, and scares. I like a good story to go along with it too. So thanks you for your time and can't wait for this film. And Protecious is right, use his idea bc i think that will be a really good thing to utilize in the sequel to F13. Show Jason getting beat up or mangled by someting that he had to go get recontructive surgery for. Thats why he is so fucked up..lol. |
 | tlyon2 3:36pm, July 12, 2009
Here is everything that i would like to see in friday the 13th part 12,First keep the winter setting for the whole movie,do a scene with freddy's head in jason's shack, next to jason's mom head to let the viewers know that freddy is still dead and not coming back! Have camp crystal lake turn into a winter resort and show a regenarated zombie jason that can now run again if he so chooses to. Introduce elias voorhees, show flash backs what happend between jason and alice. Bring back past surivors to battle jason and to save the other teens. Here is a list of survivors that i would like to see come back for part 12. Adrienne King as Alice Hardy/Angela Hardy,Amy Steel as Ginny Fields,Kimberly Beck as Trish Jarvis,Kevin Spritas as Nick haser,Lar Park Lincoln as Tina Shepard,Scott Reeves as Sean Roberson and Jansen Daggett as Rennie Wickham. |
 | gore nut 3:49pm, July 12, 2009
as sure as shit stinks there will be people that love this movie and people that hate it! but chances are most of the haters wont even see the fucking movie! "o no,not another fucking remake,it will suck!" give the movie a chance,i would rather have a remake than nothing!or worse- freddy in space! i would rather platinum dunes behind it than some others that would'nt know horror if it bit them in the ass!(wont name names!)and would rather JEH play freddy than sum young asshole that couldnt scare a guinea pig! robert englund was a legend and that will never change! lets just wait and see if JEH can be a new legend! |
 | nightmare_remake_protest 5:22pm, July 12, 2009
Those of us against this remake aren't against Jackie as Freddy as much as we are against your dishonesty about talking to Robert Englund. |
 | Nightmare 6:40pm, July 12, 2009
I was honestly excited for MONTHS about PD's Friday the 13th, but when I finally watched the movie I felt like you guys shat all over Jason, and me as well. That movie was the worst in the series. This movie will suck too. Oh, and good job on The Hitcher.... NOT! Fucking hacks, you guys should make original movies that suck instead of ruining other peoples work. Please? |
 | bbedwards 6:49pm, July 12, 2009
I couldn't have said it better nightmare remake protest |
 | bbedwards 6:52pm, July 12, 2009
p.s. Fuller-very professional of you to flat out call many fans of the original series/Robert Englund 'Idiots'. With your track record, we have EVERY RIGHT to question every move you make about our favorite horror icon. Stay classy Brad. |
 | brooklynpsycho 7:29pm, July 12, 2009
Now I'm even more excited for this. But damn, April is seriously so far away. I love how he said that some people are closed-minded, idiots, and dismiss Jackie as Freddy even before seeing him in action. That is so true, very stupid in their part. |
 | gerantgerant 9:25pm, July 12, 2009
I can't wait to see Jackie's Freddy. Robert nailed that character for years but he couldn't keep doing it forever... and let's face it, I want more Elm St. movies. Keep 'em coming! Hanging for his move!!! |
 | Bill2 11:01pm, July 12, 2009
They wouldn't not have confidence in Jackie's casting and the new film if they signed on to do two more films. If you recall Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight after the character was burned; he was so disfigured and burned that people shuttered at the sight of him. That is what I am hoping for the look of Freddy in this film - that we shutter merely by looking at him. |
 | chip85 2:07am, July 13, 2009
I love it how all the haters go on and on about how much this movie is going to suck and all that. Yet they always seem to look up info about the movie and so on. If you guys hated it that much then why do you seek information about the movie. Seriously get the fuck over it, these movies are goin to be made no matter how much you bitch and whinge. and Brad as for the idiot comment i say good on ya, I can just imagine how many people you get whinging at you about how your ruining the franchise. Its a free world and he has every right to bite back at all you whinging idiots out there |
 | Iliveonelmstreet 2:55am, July 13, 2009
well since the movie is done I guess its no need for a request in the actual production but as far as the marketing and poster's and such PLEASE!! take in account the original noes posters the art and visual's of it I really don't think the fans just want a black background with "NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET" in red or in that gold/yellow font(i.e. tcm/the hitcher) go all out,and PLEASE have lots of background and behind the scenes and interviews on the dvd and ALL the deleted scenes and the makeup process with jackie we dont want to miss a THING!! thanks again guys and were really looking forward to this(maybe you can bump it up to a halloween or christmas release, hell I'll even settle for a new years opening but april is to damn far away,I could have a baby by then!! GOOD LUCK GUY'S!! LOVE YA! |

"Those among you who are so closed-minded that you can't fathom anyone else playing the role, you are idiots"-Brad Fuller.
LOL!!! Go Man! That's awesome. Hope that was directed at
I AM THE EGG MAN and shredneckjs! I'm all for free speech. But get the fuck out of here you fucking morons.
If you don't like Plantinum Dunes take on horror films, then why the hell do you keep going...?
And YES! Freddy WAS a child molester/killer in the original series.
Brad, mate...just wanted to say, you are a true legend. Taking the time to talk to the fans on Twitter and on here is fantastic and shows true intergrity. You were exhausted and need sleep, yet still managed to tweet me back.
Kudos man.
Looking forward to your version of Freddy.
By the way...I'm sick of the word remake.
I prefer to call them "Covers", as used in musical terms.
You take the original sheet music (story) and play it at a different tempo with different instruments. And Find something else within the confines of whats written and share it.
The haters can truly just take a step back and relax.
The original will always be there too.
I know we are a passionate bunch, that doesn't mean to you can be a rude little shit. |
 | jerryolsson 4:06am, July 13, 2009
Jesus. What's all the complaining all about? "the script is bad" and all that crap? How the hell do you know how the script is? If you do not want to see the movie, then don't. Geez. |
 | DevilNeverCry81 4:17am, July 13, 2009
My only suggestion? Don't pay Jablonsky to come in and make a score that lacks any sort of distinctive sound. His F13 score was awful and took away from the film. This is Nightmare on Elm Street. If you ignore the original iconic music in favor of a typical Jablonsky score that sounds like banging trash cans, then I will pass. The music needs to remain the same as the original series. |
 | Dunes Fan 4:20am, July 13, 2009
Apparently they're doing a remake of "The Birds" next, that's what i read...i hope they come out with a F13 sequel, and SOON!!!...again i would like to see a remake of "Christine" and "Cujo", put a mean lookin' motherf***in' dog in there, no one would want to own a dog again..lol. |
 | GCk 6:17am, July 13, 2009
i seriously can not belive all of these negative feelings towards platinum dunes, come on every production company are after making money they dont care if you like it or not as long as they get big bucks for it, i am happy that brad actually listens to us and i think he made a right choice in not casting robert englund my reasons are 1. if i want a camp freddy again il just stick with the old movies 2. hes too old to play freddy they need someone who has a bit of youth in them like robert did in the original and 3rd this is a remake not a sequel and do u know what a remake is its a reinvisioning of a movie which means new cast and i personaly think that the new freddy will be too much for some fans to take in if it is played by robert. and i have to disagree with people about the humor it made the films suck the original wasnt humorus everything freddy said was to get into the minds of his victims to give him more power and i am sorry if kruger came for me and was giving out jokes i wouldnt be scared which therefore will take away his power as it was the screams of the children that gave him his power and if youwant to know where i got that from watch nightmare 2 nancys diary scene at the pool party |
 | salvador 6:30am, July 13, 2009
I love how he told off some of the people who keep complaining lol. i cant wait to see how this turns out. |
 | jerryolsson 6:34am, July 13, 2009
DevilNeverCry81, I totally agree with you. Stick with the original score, and the movie will be better. No Jablonsky! |
 | F13th 8:59am, July 13, 2009
wow brad fuller bites back lol i cant wait to see this i just hope its better then F13th i was so disappointed with that movie brad had me thinking it was going to be the best f13th ever but i watched it many more times now and i do like i love jason in that one the best ever just plz for the love of god keep the score close to the original imo thats what mess up ur f13th |
 | brooklynpsycho 11:45am, July 13, 2009
I agree with chip85 and with Iliveonelmstreet about the poster. What made the old films even more amazing were their posters and soundtracks. They are simply amazing and totally breathtaking. |
 | I AM THE EGG MAN 1:18pm, July 13, 2009
You sycophants know that Brad Fuller is a flesh and blood human being right? I mean, you all seem to be in awe that a producer would actually blog and even read some of the comments made by us "common" folk! Let's see him come onto these boards and answer some question. The pussy will never do it. He knows that he'd be called out as the Platinum Douche that he is. |
 | Scream110 1:21pm, July 13, 2009
Just... PLEASE MAKE STEVE JABLONSKY DO THE ORIGINAL SCORE JUSTICE! 'Friday the 13th' was lacking a score. |
 | I AM THE EGG MAN 1:35pm, July 13, 2009
Oh, and another thing. I am not opposed to remakes. I have liked a few of them including, Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the only thing that PD has done that was worth a damn). So, I don't want to come off as someone who is just whining about this because it is a remake. I'm not pissed because of Robert Englund being replaced either. He's probably too old to play the part, and being that this is a remake, I understand that the producers would want to go in a different direction. Jackie Earl Haley is a great actor, and I have no doubt that he will be great in this film. What pisses me off about this is the that PD had an opportunity to make something raw and visceral with this film, and if you read the script, you'll see that it is just too pedestrian and paint by the numbers. The kids in the script are straight teen caricatures, and it has a very O.C. feel to it. There is nothing that stands out about it, and it just feels like any number of teen-centric horror films that Scream wrought in the 90's. If the script was heavily re-written, and all of the crap that bugged the shit out of me, and others, were changed, then I will come onto these boards and apologize, but I have a feeling that I'm right. No matter what the filmmakers do in post, you can't save something when the blueprint, i.e. the script, is so bad in the first place. |
 | Nightmare 2:42pm, July 13, 2009
I'm with Egg Man. I'm not hating on this just because it is a remake. I have no problems with remakes. I too, think Jackie will be an awesome Freddy, but the movie will still suck because of the awful script. Just like how Derek made a great Jason, but the movie was garbage because of the script. I would be pumped for this if PD wasn't behind it. |
 | danny666 3:25pm, July 13, 2009
keep doing what you guys do best.
Platinum Dunes is great.
Thanks Brad Fuller , you have my support.
|
 | Barrybgb 4:14pm, July 13, 2009
Mr. Fuller, people have a right to their own opinion no matter what. Robert Englund as Freddy is like Harrison Ford as Indy or Han. Stallone as Rocky or Rambo. Clint as Dirty Harry. Nobody was asking for a new Freddy. They want the real Freddy. That being said, Mr. Haley may be wonderful in the role. However, Freddy and it's portrayer are special to the people. They are entitled to their own opinion however they choose. Calling them "idiots" or their thoughts as nothing but "stupidity" is not going to win anybody over, not to mention being immature yourself. |
 | Nightmare 4:38pm, July 13, 2009

 | ThomasGuts 9:31pm, July 13, 2009
I`ve enjoyed all of your movies and I always think that your visions of the classics were really cool, your incursion in an non remeke movie as The Unborn was, ugh, I have to say that was really (for me) lasy, the scenario, the visuals they were perfect, but there were something wrong whit that movie... The actual problem I have with your movies it`s about the scripts, I mean your movies are really visuals and the filming its really cool, but the scripts man, gosh...
As always I`m looking foward to your reboot of A Nightamare on Elm Street, and I`m really sure that you are going to do a very good job, It`s difficult to imagine Freddy Krueger whitout Robert Englund beacouse he was a serial killer whitout a mask, his character had a great performance, I mean , Jason Vorhees, Leatherface and Michael Myers were all serial killers udner a mask, and Freedy was other thing, he has more temperament, I think that`s way they`re a lot of haters out there, it`s correct really hard to them to see Freddy in some different skin, and MAN waht an AWSOME choice you made whit Jackie Earl Hayley, he's a hell of an actor...
I wish you guys lucky, whit the post proction, I really hope to see a kick-ass movie, lets hope that you do the same whit the script... |
 | MrsKrueger 12:14am, July 14, 2009
Why use roberts picture there if hes not what you wanted. You guys are rediculous. For the love of Freddy my ass. If you loved him so much then you wouldnt have even tried to fuck with this movie. It was already perfect. I do believe that you picked that rorschach guy over robert because of the movie he was just in,so you thought it would draw in more money, WHICH I feel is your NUMBER ONE CONCERN over all of these movies youre turning into nothing but buckets of fake blood and tits. I pray noone sees this movie and that you pay out of pocket for ruining it, since money is your goal. Robert Englund is the only Freddy. Ha,and you even pissed off WES CRAVEN, he specifically asked no one to touch this ONE PARTICULAR film of his, because it meant so much to him. Wes Craven is the greatest Director and film writer..so, why take his baby and cut it to hell? I just think it would be in your best interest, to stop taking other peopls work and massacring it. WRITE YOUR OWN MOVIES, and shit on them all you want,Ill support you then. but dont take something amazing and ruin it. Put some effort in, huh? actually do the work yourself. Well, I hope it tanks in theaters! :D |

KEEP UP THE BLOODY GOOD WORK BRAD! DON'T TAKE ANY SLAG FROM THESE WANKERS!
God knows all these nightmare fans deep down inside really want to see this movie made, no matter how much they protest it's creation. Everyone is always afraid of change, and always struggle accepting it at first. Robert Englands reign over Freddy has ended, just as numerous before him threw in the hat. Like Sean Connery for example with James Bond. No one will ever be Robert England's Freddy. I beleive it's important to revive freddy for a new generation of adolescent teenagers, a new freddy with a new approach to the youth today. I guess we will just have to bring the old closeminded fans kicking and screaming to the theaters.
CAUSE YOU KNOW EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU BLOGGERS, FANS AND ALL SORTS KNOW YOU ARE DIEING TO SEE THIS MOVIE DEEP DEEP DOWN INSIDE. AS CRITICAL AS YOU MAY BE.... ADMIT IT ALREAY!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Granted, I haven't enjoyed it all, but I there really isn't a movie made by you guys that I don't enjoy on some level.
Can't wait for this movie and definitely can't wait to see Jackie's take on the iconic role! I'm sure he'll knock that shit way out of the park. |
 | Craig_666 10:43am, July 14, 2009
I probably come across as a hater and to be honest, don't even care. I give every remake a chance even if I know I'm going to hate it. The only Platinum Dunes film I haven't seen is The Hitcher, as the original would never be able to be topped. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of my favourite horror films and Freddy Krueger is my favourite horror icon. From PD's past films, I know in my heart of hearts that the film will be shit. All of your films have absolutely no re-watchable qualities. I've seen all PDs films at the cinema and when I saw them for a second time on DVD I was just bored. Brad Fuller gives us the same bullshit every time a film comes out; how great the shoot was, how hard eveyone worked blah blah blah, how epic the whole thing will be. But let's not forget that he doesn't exactly tell the truth. I remember him saying how Jason finding his hockey mask would be some epic thing (epic?! - he found it in some redneck's shack!! Whoppee fucking doo - that must of taken ages to think up). The DVD of Friday the 13th would have a different version with a new storyline which would be unrecognisable to the theatrical version - an extended sex scene and more gore does not make a different story. And calling haters idiots isn't going to help you cause. Due to your track record, us fans have every right to worry about what you're doing to this franchise. You say you're fans but it seems the users on here have better storyline ideas and no the horror genre better than you. The fact that you didn't even have the respect to get Wes Craven involved in this remake to one of his most frightening and successful film is a travesty. But I suppose you think you know more than most masters of the genre. Yes Brad Fuller, i will watch the A Nightmare on Elm Street, and you will get my money. i will try to give it a chance but I still can't get excited by it. But in my honest opinion, you're still a twat who doesn't know shit about the genre we love. |

I just wanna say all the people complaining about Platinum Dunes stealing other people's work really amuse me. I hate to be the one to break it to you guys, but someone else's work can only be stolen if another person comes along, and then tries to make a profit off of it while passing it off as their own original piece of work. Stealing another's work is not something that applies to the guys at Platinum Dunes...they fully acknowledge that they are remaking films for the owners of the rights to the originals...in other words, they didn't steal it because they had a little thing called PERMISSION.
And another thing, while Brad may have been a little off calling all the haters idiots, nevertheless you guys had it coming. |
 | Dunes Fan 5:01pm, July 14, 2009
I agree with "Freddyisking", people should really stop bitchin' & complaining about the fact that it got remade. Look it's done, they're done filming it so what r u gonna do about it, not go see it u think they give a flying f*** it was gonna happend either way PD or not, i'm glad the PD is producing these movies because they are well funded, Micheal Bay has a shit load of money. If u guys look at the opening credits for F13 or gonna see Sean S. Cunninham under PRODUCER, THE F***IN' DIRECTOR FOR THE ORIGINAL, so to go along with "Freddyisking" they got permission, now u can't tell me that they didn't ask Wes Craven for his approval. |

 | Craig_666 6:41pm, July 14, 2009
Dunes Fan - please get your facts right. Wes Craven has stated in many interviews that no one has asked him for his approval or new ideas for this remake. Check around on the web, as he has been quoted a number of times on this issue. Wes Craven has had a hand in all the remakes of his films thus far in giving a guiding hand to 'directors' who have already proven themselves with a debut film. Switchblade Romance aka Haute Tension and Hardcore were made by the directors of The Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left respectively. Craven hasn't had a music director go nuts on one of his films. Craven holds the first Elm Street film close to his heart as he had to wait years to finance it - he almost went bankrupt during this time. As for you saying about Sean S Cunningham, he's an ideas man rather than a director. He's a bit like Fuller in that he will film something if it makes money - essentially that how Friday the 13th (1980) was made. He saw Halloween and went with a gorier version of that in a different setting. He got funding based on the title.
<p>Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street had a unique story and breathed new life in to the 80s splatter film that was on the wane at the time. Craven put blood, sweat and tears in to that film and he has said that is the one film in his resume he would not like to see remade. Brad Fuller and the team at PD have no respect for some of these film makers who have made original films. I do believe they screwed over Eric Red with The Hitcher as well and were forced to put him on the screenwriting credit as they essentially copied his original script.
<p>I believe they never even interviewed or had any kind of interaction with Robert Englund either. I think this is plainly obvious due to a lack of a cameo.
<p>I would be really interested to know if Robert Shaye has any involvement in this film since he resigned from New Line Cinema. A Nightmare on Elm Street is what set up his company and he holds Freddy Krueger close to his heart as well. I think it might be a case of Shaye left, and PD could get their hands on the Elm Street franchise and butcher it.
So I'm sticking up for the haters. Brad Fuller can call us all idiots but we know he's a liar and has zero respect for the original film makers of these classic films that they are remaking |

Who cares if they got Wes Craven's approval? When Rob Zombie got Carpenter's approval for his Halloween remake, everyone cried out about Carpenter's opinion meaning nothing anymore and that he just wants money. Why would Wes Craven approving of this movie get any less of the same result?

 | I AM THE EGG MAN 12:27am, July 15, 2009
There is at least one good thing that will come from this film. Years from now, when people look back at this era of filmmaking, they will remember it as an era of poor remakes. Platinum Dunes, Brad Fuller, and Michael Bay, will all be seen as the jokes that they are. The films will make money, and those un-talented pieces of shit will be rich, but they won't be remembered for the quality of their "art." The originals will always be held in high esteem because they are GREAT films. These hacks will just be a laughable footnote. |
 | Gothhead 1:08am, July 15, 2009
Did some of you ever consider that the script you read was very RAW!!!!!
I am a published writer and do you have ANY clue how many times a script gets rewrites? Thats like listening to the demo version of a song before a band goes in to work on it with a producer and you just assume it sucks. Alot can be changed in that time. TRUST ME! Here is what we do know.
1. THEY DID A BRILLANT JOB CASTING THIS!
2. They hired a great director, who worked his ass off.
3. They gave it a very healthy budget for a horror film and have producers who seem to have a real passion for making it good-- This can help you so much in making a film.
4. The man who wrote the script has worked with Martin Scorsese and he probably has done rewrites. Do you really think the final script is going to suck?
This film has all these things going for it and because it has a famous action producer like Michael Bay attached to it, instead of Wes Craven, many of you just assume its bad?
How close minded are you?
A personal note to Brad: The last thing I hope you guys do is get a GREAT EDITOR!!! This is so important to a film and next to the writer, I think the most under appreciated aspect in making a film. I grew up watching Freddy and cant wait until April.
Thanxx for you hard work. |

This comment is directed to NightmareFan1990. What the F**k does Alfred Hitchcock have to do with Robert England. That is a real poor comparison. Second of all, where do get off telling me I can't spell and calling me Braindead? It was a typo you moron. You know, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Take a look at your shitty writing. There are about 13 errors in your comment not to mention your grammer. It looks really bad when your calling other people stupid and you can't spell it yourself. |

Hey, you PD pieces of shit. That's right, you Mr. Fuller. I suggest you check out the Night of the Demons remake when it comes out this October. After doing so, hire the people who worked on it, as it seems they actually knew what they were doing and wanted to please the fans of the original. Maybe after you do so your lousy company will be able to produce quality and remakes. |

Probably because Wes Craven was involved in two superior remakes, Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left.

here is a fantastic article that gives a bit of insight on how prodouchers like PD and 'directors' like Bay get to where they are. To sum it up, a publicist who's worked with Bay responds to the question 'why does Micheal Bay keep getting work despite the (lack of) artistic merit of his movies-"Michael is a good salesman," she says. "He's great in meetings. And he has great hair." Kind of puts things into a clearer perspective, doesn't it?

So, fans and others, how can anyone criticize a movie without a real point? I try to find purpose within certain comments and many seem like nonsense. The simple fact that remakes happen should wipe that comment off the board completely... look around hollywood and tell me what hasn't become a remake (rhetorical). People in general get attached, so what better way to fulfill that then to produce something familiar to the viewers. Many viewers will never be happy no matter what gets produced... just enjoy the films for what they are, that's all there is to it. |
 | Bill2 9:38pm, July 15, 2009
Actually, I would like to have Steve Jablonsky compose the film, keeping the original themes, yet expanding upon them and create a score that will improve upon the original. |
 | DevilNeverCry81 5:47am, July 16, 2009
Keep the original score. It's distinctive and original. Another Jablonsky score that sounds like "TCM" would be foolish. Also playing devil's advocate. I am not one to hate remakes outright. But Englund is in his early 60's. And Haley is almost 50. What was the point of a recast if the new Freddy is not that much younger than the old Freddy? Again, not complaining at all. Just an observation. |

Well first off, I'm glad that Nightmare on Elm Street has been remade(Even if it's a bit soon). And I don't think this movie will suck just because Platinum Dunes is producing it.I loved the "Texas Chainsaw" remake. It was raw, grisly, and you actually felt sorry for the characters when they were killed in brutal(and sometimes hard to stomach)ways. And while "Friday the 13th" wasn't quite as good as I thought it was going to be, it most definately wasn't as bad as some of the fans claim. In fact, if I might be so bold, it was better than all the other 11 "Friday the 13th" films.I thought it was great that they made jason more vicious, more intelligent, and that he ran. In the previous films, Jason was nothing more than a cheap rip off of Michael Myers, and was dumber, Cheesier, and full of more slasher film cliche's than you could shake a stick at...er, machete'.It used to piss me off to no end that he had all these open woods that he knew very well, but yet he still chose to walk after his victims, instead of running after them like a bull and just comletely slaughtering them. I mean seriously,if you get killed by the Jason of the origional series you deserve it cause, he's slow, and there are plenty of places to run, and I guess once you left his woods he just magically called it even. But in this new one, this fucker was running, setting traps, and pretty much just going Rambo on these kids, and there was just no hope of getting away. Now that's scary, But if you guy's want more Jason in space, you're more than welcome to go rent "Jason X", but tread carfully, for having to watch that film was more brutal than anything Jason has ever done to one of his victims. Now back to "Elm Street".I hear a lot of whining and bitching about Platinum Dunes "Skrewing up the series", and I guess if you are a die hard fan of the series you have every right to be defensive of something you love. And that's all well and good, but I just have one question for the people who get on this board and trash a film which they haven't even seen. Where the fuck were all of you when A Nightmare on Elm Street 3-6 were all being made? Those were all horrible films in every aspect. They completely ruined the origional, and made Freddy a campy, unscary, one-lineing son of a bitch.I mean do you all seriously like that? And am I the only one who thinks the maker's of Freddy VS. Jason should shot by fireing squad for making such an abomination of a film? That was pretty much killing two birds with one stone, they got to ruin and make embarrasments of two franchises for the price of one.Actually, scratch that. The validity of those two franchises were ruined by the shitty sequals long before that, so I would think that people would be glad that these franchise's are finally getting a comletely blank slate, and a fresh start. As a matter of fact, at this point, Platinum Dunes is the only hope of salvageing the "Nightmare" franchise from the toilet it was already in.And for those who absolutely refuse to see this movie just because Englund is not playing Freddy, yes I feel for you, mabye Brad shouldn't have called all of you "Idiots",at least not publically. Cause I mean, you have all called him much worse things and kinda had it comin'.If you'd trashed me half as bad as you've done this poor man, who works hard for weeks to bring YOU a film that you will watch for only two hours of you're live's, I'd have shot back with shit that would get me sued for shure. So he was being polite. But anyways, back to the Robert Englund thing. He's already said he wasn't interested, he's way too old,(and even if by some miracle he could've done this film(WARNING,REALITY CHECK ALERT AHEAD!), sequels would be completely out of the question, cause he's old now, and I've got news for you: He's not getting any younger folks, and then you'd all just be pissed about that. to cast Englund as Kruger would completely defeat the purpose of a remake, reboot reimagioning, whatever. The whole idea is to do do something fresh and different, otherwise there would be no point. That means a new Freddy.Anyways, everyone worried that Heath Ledger wasn't going to measure up to Jack Nicholson as the Joker, but his turned out to be a thousand times better than Nicholson's, plus he won awards for that performance. Nicholson didn't.From now on when you think the Joker, you will think Heath, and Nicholson's version will be forgotten with time.So give jackie a chance. You say no one will ever be as good a Freddy as Englund, yet you've never seen anyone else in the role. Maybe Jackie will do for Freddy what Heath did for the Joker, and unlike Robert Englund, Jackie still has enough youth in him to do sequels(And you know once you see this film and you like it, you're gonna want more). But all the ranting and complaining in the world is pointless now that the film has wrapped shooting. So, good luck Platinum Dunes and for the fans, even if this movie isn't as good as Craven's origional, rest assured that it will be way better than all those awful sequals, and it wouldn't take much effort to to top them.Seriously, I've seen fan films that were better than those damn sequals, so that alone is call for celebration. |

Amen keepin It Reel, amen. Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree with you only 95%, only because I did like the entire Elm street & Friday series. Other than that, I'm with you. I also hated Freddy vs. Jason so much. That was such a disgrace, a joke, a disappointment, etc... |
 | Platinum Dunes Fan! 7:34pm, July 19, 2009
Off topic... so I watched Horsemen and wasn't impressed. I have to admit, the movie had a very monotone feel. Only a couple parts actually grabbed my attention. It was a slight disappointment. There was potential, but its intensity seemed to fall short and the film suffered for it. Parts that should have been suspenseful were anything but suspenseful. It was as though it lacked a quality soundtrack and much of the script felt like it was read. I read a review that explained the film well, "it was like a collection of scenes rather than a coherent film." With that said I still have full faith in Platinum Dunes and the quality that they will bring to A Nightmare on Elm Street. |
 | MrsKrueger 10:16pm, July 19, 2009
No. That's Robert Barton Englund in that picture. |
 | MrsKrueger 10:27pm, July 19, 2009
And I like lots of Freddy fans love the fact that he goes about killing people in a funny manner. I enjoy all Nightmares, as long as they have the real Freddy Krueger in them. He's a smartass, and has his own style. and not that I would have protested 3-6,but I was born a bit before 6 was made. and as youre saying 3-6 is NOT 1, which is THE ONE getting remade. by these assholes who are trying to make a name out of redoing CLASSICS. redoing. not creating shit. and theyve taken away the KEY FUCKING ELEMENT TO THE FUCKING PICTURE..Freddy. You cannot have him without Robert. As you people go into that fucking theater to watch these assholes REMAKE, all you will be doing is comparing jakie to robert, because robert is freddy..hes your image and idea of Freddy. Because he made him, well wes too obviously, but he chose him because he knew he was the fucking man for the job...where the fuck was jackie then?! why is he here now? because he was just in a huge movie, and these assholes want to rake in as much money as they can to put into their wallets. |
 | voorhees213 3:25am, July 20, 2009
Mrs Krueger, I will admit I'm not the biggest Freddy fan, so forgive my ignorance if that is the case, but I cannot for the life of me remember ANY Nightmare where Freddy's glove was JUST a glove with the blades coming out of the fingers, it always had the metal on the fingers and the back (or top, whatever). Please tell me which ANOES that photo is from (I'll be doing "homework" watching the entire series over again before this comes out). My first guess would be Freddy's Revenge. |
 | voorhees213 3:39am, July 20, 2009
BTW, Brad, I loved the "idiots" line, and for this reason only: These guys post ALL this shit-talking, and the second you fire back, they pussy out and call you "unprofessional". Fucking classic - they call you all the names in the book, and the second you call them "idiots" they get all butt-hurt and cry to mommy. Sound off like you got a pair, Fredheads. I'd like some cheese with all the whine on this board!! |
 | keepin It Reel 5:06am, July 20, 2009
Hope they post some photos of the cast and the set pieces soon, but not Freddy. The new makeup for the most part should be kept a secret, but it'd be bad ass if they showed parts of him like just the glove or a silhouette or something.Just enough to tease us, but not enough to spoil the big reveal (Which I hope they hold off on until the movie opens). But I don't think we'll see or hear anything new until after Comic-Con which I think starts Wednesday. Now that the movies wrapped, no point in making suggestions, but I do hope that the characters are nicely fleshed out and people who you care about.Whenever you get the audience to emotionally invest in your characters, you've done your job. Can't tell you how many horror films I've walked into, and the audience cheered when someone got killed.Ridley Scott's
"Alien" had three dimensional characters who you could relate to, you felt for them, and when they died you felt their absence. So if Sam Bayer did this with this film, than it will be a masterpeice.Oh, and for the haters : Not to be rude but it's gettin kind of old.The movie is in post production as we speak. All that's left is the editing, Score, visual effects, ect.Pretty much, they just gotta polish this sucker off and it's done. So you're not gonna change anything, you aren't gonna discourage anyone from seeing the film, & you're definately not gonna discourage Platinum Dunes from releasing it.So why are you still on this board? You all claim you won't see the film no matter what.Fine, don't see it.You also accuse Mr. Fuller (and everyone else for that matter) of just being a bunch of rich, money-grubbing, blood-sucking vampires. If that's the case, then surely they won't miss a cent of your little $ 10 at the box office. So why are you trying to kill everyone else's exitement? Lastley (and I've heard this one non stop), you all throw constant and daily bitch-fits about Platinum Dunes "ruining" the original.Well allow me to make something very clear to you.Last time I checked, the original wasn't going anywhere. It's been here for almost three decades, and will be here another three. This is a completely DIFFERENT series that has nothing to do with the old one.Don't any of you understand that? Even if they made Freddy a one-armed dancing clown, they couldn't ruin the origional cause it's already been done, and will always be around for you to enjoy. That's like saying Bush ruined everything about Kennedy, or something stupid like that. This is simply a different version. If you don't like it, don't see it.Just go rent the old one and you'll feel better, I promise. But please, at least wait till you see the damn film before you completely fucking trash it.No one has seen a single still, or frame of footage from this film so how the fuck do you know it's gonna suck? The only basis you have to go on for bad-mouthing this flick is the simple fact that Platinum Dunes' name is attached, and you happened to come across an early "leaked" draft of the film which may or may not have been real.Have any of you stopped to think this may have been a fake? Not too big of a stretch don't ya think? Either way, it would have gone through countless rewrites before going in front of cameras. That doesn't even include the amount of imrov that happens during filming. And BTW, stop attacking Brad Fuller just cause he's an easy target, and because you know he's gonna read these comments while you sit within the safety of you're own homes. And NEWS FLASH ! : Brad is neither writing, directing, nor acting in this film. Thus if it does turn out bad, It would be at the responsibility of the cast and crew, not the guy who puts up the money. So give this guy a break, and who knows, maybe after Comic-Con, you all will finally bite your tongues and actually get exited about this film. |
 | MrsKrueger 7:50pm, July 20, 2009

voorhees213, that picture IS of Robert from Nightmare 2. During production the glove got stolen, so for the end of the film, they had Jesse's final transformation as Freddy slightly different than earlier in the film...in that instead of Freddy wearing the glove, the blades protruded out of Jesse's fingers, resulting in what you see above. He's not wearing a glove, the blades are simply sticking out of his fingers. |

No, pretty sure I wont be paying money to see this movie. The only one of their movies I gave a chance to was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. So you'd be wrong. And I think YOU'D be suprised at how many people DON'T support Platinum Dunes. And Brad,if you dont reply to horrorking93, youre an even bigger asshole than ever. and especially after he said 'a great writer like yourself' ahahahaha, im sure you dont hear that very often.. considering you REMAKE movies. ahahaha. |

OK, a lot of harsh words are being thrown around, number one Robert Englund(who I'm sure isn't losing any sleep over this)is to old to dawn the make up once again and go around chasing people in their dreams, I mean really give Jackie Earle Haley a chance, I truthfully enjoyed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film(s), think they remained true to the original, same with Friday the 13th, so give this movie a chance, the reason I believe Bay does remakes is because he's a fan of these characters as well. I'm already a writer/film maker on an independent level, but noticed on Micheal Bay's site they will dis-card any script ideas, horror is my genre of choice, I mean the Unborn was horrible, so I can see most of the point(s) being made here in regards to Platinum Dunes... Hey if you want original horror scripts you can contact me at c_timeknowsfilms@yahoo.ca but still think this new Nightmare film should be given a chance.

or right 1st thing is i love the egg man and mrsnightmares view on this. 2nd to all you guys who are saying this film should be given a chance even though these fuckers track records are horrible is nonsense. what if someone was gonna build your house but the other house that were by them fall apart year later would you want that person to build your house? 3rd you shouldnt make a remake if the original writter doesnt want it to be remade. what if you made a movie you put blood sweat and tears into and turned out to be a classic and you thought it was perfect but some aashole with a bad track record of making films remade yours withought your recomendation? to call fans idiots and their views stupid is pretty fucked up judging on the fact that were gonna pay your bills.and i have no problem with a new freddy as long as robert was asked again and agin with every bit of efoort and he kept saying no then id be ok with that. but pd is fucking crap ok. this movie is great and im pissed off. i wouldnt have much of a big problem with a remake if it wasnt by these fucks. freddy for life |

ok u dumb bitch first off i know 4 a fact you will go pay to see this movie ur taking the time to look it up on the internet i bet ur fat ass youll be in the front row with an extra large popcorn,....ha ha...lol ' WELCOM TO PRIMETIME BITCH'.. |
 | MrsKrueger 8:14pm, July 22, 2009
So,just because I look it up doesnt mean im going to go and see it..That makes so much sense. Im on here because Im defending the original, and mainly Robert. Robert wasnt asked, Wes Craven wasn't asked to be involved. and I have nothing against Jackie, but when it comes to Freddy, that's Robert's job. Oh, and I dont eat popcorn because it gets stuck in your teeth. Thanks.(: |
 | Freddy_Fingers_Ur_MoM 11:35pm, July 22, 2009
o my fucking god,,,u truly need to research ur facts,,,,,,Robert Englund was asked i whatched the interview about it....also i saw Robert England at a press confrance and he even supperts this movie, and he will be making an apearence as well...ur wasting ur time defending someone for no reason... MRS..KRUGAR ...ROBERT E... does not want to be freddy anymore....end of discussion. go drink some fat free water...lol |
 | MrsKrueger 7:52pm, July 23, 2009
water is already fat free hun.
it is after all.. water. Good one.
I never said he didnt support it, he's robert. he hopes it goes well.
because hes a great person like that.
and I said that I support the O R I G I N A L.. if you read above. As well as Robert. and the fact that he is Freddy. Thats my opinion and Im entitled to it. So dont tell people to stop yelling at these guys when you did the same exact thing, just directed toward us.
And if he doesnt want to be Freddy anymore than why is there discussion of him being in Freddy Vs. Jason 2 ?!
You can find that article on bloodydisgusting. He would willingly do it.
And seriously, you really need to learn to spell.. almost every other one of your words is spelled wrong. Wow. |
 | Freddy_Fingers_Ur_MoM 11:10am, July 24, 2009
there will not be a freddy vs jason 2,ya its been in talk but thats it, and i know how to spell ,i use a controller instead of keyboard,ps3 system is my internet so sometimes typing can be a pain in the ass..lol ...thats fine with ur opinion and all, just dont go bashin a movie untill u see it ,,,,o and i know water is fat free...lol...if ur such a fan of the original you shouldnt let this remake be the cause of you posting 13 rants of how the producers are (fill in ) they cast J.E.H because he is a good actor not because he was in a big movie ....i mean cmon if that was the case why wouldnt they hire Christian Bale or Grard Butler ??? they both have good voice adaptations... |
 | Freddy_Fingers_Ur_MoM 11:11am, July 24, 2009
o h and those two where in big movies recently....just incase you didnt see Dark knight or 300... |
 | MrsKrueger 9:28pm, July 24, 2009
yeah I admit, I did go overboard..but Im just pissed. that movie means alot to me. well and the rest of the movies they are remaking. I mean what theyre doing is just rediculous its like "lets see how many remakes we can get done withing 10 years" and I dont think Christian bale or gerard butler would do this movie.. people know p. dunes but not that well. that'd be a step down in their careers. |

Any of you whiney ass Silver screen snobs out there complaining about another movie being made in honor of Perhaps one of the Greatest horror Flicks of the 80's is just PERPOSTEROUS! There are much worse films being produced that should have Died with the first one... FINAL DESTINATION? SCREAM! I know what you did last summer. Etc. *yawn* whine about that shat. I appreciate that others of my generation are still carrying on the legacy of Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers... Indeed they will never be as fuckin Off the wall sadistically brutal and delightful as they were when I was a Scared rug rat begging for it to be turned off, yet peeking through my Fingers to keep watching.
BTW Mrs. Krueger, actually Mr. Craven did express interest that HE himself didnt want to continue with the Story. But since he signed away his Rights to the Story he doesn't have much say in whether or not it gets more air time. After all the man is a writer, he has been doing these things since we were kids! i think he knows what hes doing. and is also living proof that Gay people can be fucking creepy! :P
When the new Jason, Freddy, Halloween's started rolling i at first did also give my lil snotty angst at it all but then i sat and thought about it. If i had the chance to do the movie i probably would too. So i can take what i kow from the first round of movies on the subject, and then take a look at the second round... I will judge the movie one the Movie itself not solely on what was already done.
Some people can start off with a shitty Track record. the more they do it the better it gets. Cut the kids some fuckin slack Fat ass!
And btw, Water can have calories in it which can end up adding you Fat. Water is not "pure" as they proclaim. otherwise it wouldnt even exist. |

And you all need to learn what a Spell check is! It comes free with my Firefox (the Fox Rox!)... what's your excuse? |
