'Elm Street' casting begins... Jackie Earle Haley is your new Freddy Krueger.

There is no one who knows the hatred and distain of horror fans better than I do. I also have learned a great deal from the comments I read, especially here at BD. The fans here are very insightful and passionate and I find it very helpful to read the feedback.
It should come as no surprise then that Jackie Earle Haley is playing Freddy Krueger. He was the only person we ever considered for the role. He was BD's first choice and there were many times during the negotiation that I came here and just looked at the fans casting ideas and realized that he was ONLY person who could play the role. We can't make all the fans happy, but those of you who are open to a new version of the Nightmare story have to be as excited as we are. Come on people, an Academy Award Nominated actor is playing Krueger. This was no small accomplishment, but everyone involved wanted it to happen. We all know that Jackie is an unbelievable actor, but I want to let you in on something you might not know. Sam, Drew and I had drinks with Jackie and were elated to learn that he is just like us. He is a huge fan of horror, and well aware of the rightful place Freddy Krueger holds in the horror pantheon. Quite simply, he knows what he has to do, and is very up to the task.
On Monday we start the process of "creating" Freddy's makeup. Jackie is going in to have his contact lenses fit as well as a head cast created so we can create the make up to fit perfectly on his face. Normally I don't go to these fittings, but I am so excited about this film, I don't want to miss anything. I won't be able to take pictures but I will post later in the week to tell you how it went.
Just a few lines about Sam Bayer. He is so thrilled about taking all the years of experience he has in making breathtaking images and turning it into a horrifying film. He is uncompromising and a perfectionist. I am loving working with him because he cares so much, that I feel like we are all in good, safe hands.
Now that we have our Freddy I am very focused on casting the rest of the movie. Our first actor cast, Kyle Gallner starred in A Haunting In Connecticut. We didn't have the luxury of seeing the film before we cast him, but his audition was so impressive that everyone at the studio and Bay signed off on him the same day he auditioned. It was one of the few times that someone got the role in the room. He has set a very high bar for the remaining actors. I hope to have more casting news very soon.
There are lots of rumors floating around, but the best place to get the real skinny is on this blog or the BD homepage, so keep coming back, because I intend to post frequently.
I still disagree strongly with casting Kyle. There are so many more choices that could have fit a whole lot better in my opinion. Jackie Earle Haley does have the right look, and I liked the 3 minute bit, I still have yet to see Watchmen. So I'm very curious to see how that pans out. I can't wait to see what happens with this movie as this is one of two of my favorite franchises in Horror. Can't wait to see the rest of the Casting.
Jackie Earle Haley is an EXCELLENT selection. I just hope you guys have a good script and you get the atmosphere right. I barely want to see Freddy in this film. He should remain in the shadows taunting and torturing before making his kills. Let Freddy be enigmatic and evil. And I do NOT want to see one slasher teen stereotype. Make a good movie, not a good "slasher" movie.
Jackie is an absolute genius. I can't think of anyone better suited both physically and intellectually to play Freddie. To say "I can't wait" for this film's debut would be an understatement. Don't fall asleep!!!
First, let me say hello! I just joined this message board and this is my first post. I've always loved checking out the message boards and seeing what the other fans are thinking and feeling, but have never been interested in posting my own comments until now.
The original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is by far my favorite film of all time, including non-horror films. I saw it for the first time when I was ten years old, and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't seen it hundreds of times since then. I've connected to the film on so many different levels at different times in my life. As a child, I was always into the villains in movies and cartoons, and once I was introduced to Fred Krueger, no one has come close since.
OK, enough of my backstory, lol. No one cares about that. I just wanted to emphasize how important the original film is to me. I see from the other posts on here that many of you share my enthusiasm for the original film and for the character of Freddy and I think that ROCKS.
I am especially happy to see the producers of this re-envisioning (Mr. Fuller especially) taking the time to listen to our feedback and possibly incorporating some of our ideas into the film.
So, in light of that, here is my feedback on what's been reported so far and on what my hopes for the film are:
#1- I have the utmost respect for Robert Englund, and when I say or hear the name "Freddy Krueger", Robert's face will always be the first one that comes to mind, but at this point, he's so familiar in the role that for me, it would be near impossible for Freddy to be scary again with the same mannerisms and facial expressions. I want to be terrified again, plain and simple. True, Englund made Freddy a household name, but maybe that's part of the issue for me. If we were talking about a sequel here, I'd be all for bringing Robert back in full force, but this is NOT a sequel. This is a new interpretation, and it's a little hard to present a new vision when at the center of it all is something that's so familiar to so many people. If the new Freddy were anyone but Jackie Earle Haley, I would be as skeptical as many of you are, but having seen "Little Children" even before the first mention of Haley playing Krueger, I can honestly say, my excitement for this film has grown exponentially. His casting tells me that the producers of this film really get what this character is about deep down underneath it all, they care about getting it right, and they know that Haley is the only actor besides Englund that has the chops to pull it off. Bottom line, Robert Englund has said that he doesn't really have any interest in playing this role again anyway, and as a fellow artist, I totally respect that. Besides, no matter how great he is, if he's not really into it, is that something we want to see? I think it would do more harm than good. As far as his look goes, I'd say keep it dark. Keep it realistic. Find some photos of some REALLY bad, real life burn victims, and go with that. Whatever you do, if it looks like Jackie in Robert's make up, it won't work. The glove shouldn't change too much, and definitely keep the blades smaller and thinner like in the first film. The glove was scary in the first film because it really looked homemade. The new one should build on that.
#2 I'm totally on board with Freddy returning to his dark roots. What made the original film so horrifying for me was the backstory. That someone's thirst for revenge and the murder of innocence was so great that it could not be satisfied or destroyed, even in death? That's pretty disturbing. Add to that the vulnerability we all share when we sleep, and it makes for a terrifying concept. I definitely would like to see more of the backstory played out, but don't over do it. Less is more. I also understand that some elements of the backstory may need to be altered to fit modern times, and if those alterations are made with care and can in some way bring back the air of mystery and sense of the unknown from the first film, then i say go for it, but Freddy at his heart, is evil. He's deviant. He's perverted, and this new incarnation should reflect that. Tina's death in the first film should be the benchmark. It wasn't quick. It wasn't one jab of the claws into her chest. It was relentless and it was obvious Freddy was loving every second of it. He was getting off on it and that's what made it so horrifying. With Jason and Michael Myers, the killings although gory always seemed a little mindless to me. Whether we admit it or not, every one of us has a dark side and Fred Krueger, as portrayed in the first film, was terrifying because he was a brutal example of what one can become when that dark side is indulged to its fullest extent.
That's my take on it, at least.
#3- Character development is equally as important for the other characters in the film, and great care should be taken when casting these "teens". it's a lot scarier when the people getting butchered in front of you are people you like; people you can see a little bit of yourself in. What's going on in their home lives? What are their insecurities? Their strengths? Why should we pay attention to them? Give us a reason to, and we will. At least I will.
#4- I read a really great post about the music being really important too, and i could not agree more. A generic, orchestral score will not do. I love the idea of a synth heavy score like the first film, but with a modern edge, something dark, sinister, dirty. I'm not suggesting this song specifically, because it's been done, but "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails is a good place to start.
OK...that's all for now. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this whole thing. I've enjoyed reading all your posts and I look forward with great anticipation to April 16, 2010!
Do us proud, Platinum Dunes!!!
I have literally grown up with the Nightmare franchise. Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees were my fave fellas to pass the time with on good old VHS.
So when you guys mentioned taking on A Nightmare On Elm Street as a remake, a sense of foreboding AND excitement, enveloped me. I love Freddy as a character. His early days, 1,2,and 3, especially, were fantastically creepy. The campy comic in later films not so much.
And i adore what Mr. Robert Englund did with the role.
But, the possibility of seeing a new Nightmare movie, much like the Friday and Chainsaw movies, filled me with geek glee.
And i got worried when Robert was not going to be the man behind the makeup.
Real worried.
Until today.
Jackie was THE BEST THING about Watchmen an truly inspired casting for this role. Freddy is in the hands of an accomplised and FANTASTIC actor.
WOW!
I also like Kyle. Being a fan of Veronica Mars and Smallville, I'm stoked thst he has a role in the remake as I think he is quite a good actor and will surprise a lot of folk.
Now...we have to this film dripping atmosphere and suspence.
It's Psycological Horror. Not slash and gore (although gore is always welcome).
Freddy NEEDS to be a creepy, evil bastard again. And like the Joker in The Dark Knight, crack a joke or two, but they have to only be funny to him. Everyone else wants to throw up at his sense of humour.
Keep it scary.
And, if you decide to refine his makeup so that it is a realistic take on a burn victem, go for it.
Now...entertain us.
Bring Freddy to life.
But treat him with respect.
I don't really agree with many remakes but having cast JEH as Freddy Krueger, I can honestly say this is one I can get behind. I'm definitely excited for this now. Nice choice!
Dunes, I would just like to say, I hope NIGHTMARES kinda stay close to the org NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Freddy needs to be changed. He needs to be more frightning and less funny. The "dark humor" is what killed Freddy off in the first place. Freddy needs to be ruthless. Also when you stay close to parts of the org movie, it realy takes you back and makes you realize how cool that movie was. I loved you'r TCM remake, But hated Friday 13th. Jason was cool, but their was to much sex and weed and that killed it for me. I guess because alot of people think thats all a Jason movie is. Also I hated the geek who wanted to sleep with that manican. I hope this one is done more like the TCM remake.
I have to say casting Jackie Earle Haley is a great choice. Though my first choice would have been Robert Knepper. But saying that, the script is floating around online and I couldn't help but read it. Without saying anything. I am really glad Freddy is back to form and is very scary with cryptic humour. Samuel Bayr is a great director! I love hi passion for celluloid and the fact he hates digitaland HD makes me know that this film will be sot on celluloid just like the previous films but with Samuel Bayer's touch!!!!
Yay!
I hope Jackie signs on for the sequels becaus I hate inconsistencies like that!
Good luck!!!!
Oh and one more thing Brad! Whenever I hear this song, it sounds like A nightmare on elm Street but it's not but it could be a new theme.
It starts off like a child melody and then turns into an industrial horror, then returns to the childlike melody with the female singer and vice versa.
Whatever, but I think this would be great as the new theme.
The Birthday Massacre - Blue
Jackie Earle Haley is a fine actor, but as Freddy? Come on. I'm getting as many people as I can to not see this movie. Platinum Dunes has gone too far this time.
Jackie Earle Hayley is a great choice to replace Robert Englund as Fred Krueger, I just hope he doesn't use the Rorschach voice from Watchmen because he'll be like Christian Bale using the Batman voice in virtually every new movie he takes including Terminator Salvation. I'd also like to say that I think Danielle Panabaker should be cast as Nancy, think about it she has the right look and has that sweet and innocent look about her, I know she was in Friday The 13th but she should have been in this movie instead. At least consider her, plus it'd be great for her to be in both a Nightmare and Friday movie both made by Platinum Dunes.
I'd also like to say that I'm expecting to see Robert Englund cameo in this movie, but I also think that you guys should try and get Heather Langenkamp to cameo in this movie to in a scene involving the new Nancy, just as a tribute to the original. And as the other guys said, Freddy should stay in the shadows and barely talk, don't make his small lines cheesy either otherwise we will be disappointed, we don't want a wise cracking killer from the crappy sequels we want the pure evil vicious killer from the original movie and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Also, I hope this movie doesn't have a cheap ending like the Friday The 13th movie, I was never a big fan of Jason anyway but the remake you guys did was an okay movie but had a really cheap ending and lacked in scares very much, so make sure in this movie you make Freddy's presence as terrifying as you can, dont fuck it up!
That's pretty much it, I have faith in you guys you did great with Ammityville and TCM movies, Friday The 13th was okay but you can make up for it with a sequel, please dont screw Nightmare up and make it something Wes will aprove of, don't forget DANIELLE PANABAKER for Nancy.
Oh and the Nightmare script has been leaked online so you guys might wanna try and sort that out, those guys over on the IMDb boards somehow got a copy of it and are sending it around. Thought I'd just give you guys the heads up.
DON'T FORGET HUMOR. Freddy was funny from the beginning of the series, not just from part 3 an onward. The difference is TONE. Freddy said demented, sick things that made HIMSELF laugh in the first two. From 3 and on, the filmmakers seemed to want to make audiences laugh more (which is fine, as I love that version of Freddy). For instance, imagine the Freddy of Part 5 delivering a line like "I'm your boyfriend now, Nancy." It would be completely different. What worries me is the Platinum Dunes "no humor" comment... which is simply wrongheaded. Don't make Freddy a dull, mindless slasher. Freddy had a personality. Let him keep it.
I pray that they focus on all the small things that make freddy who he his,for instance the reason his voice was changed after he died was due to the fire burning his vocal chords,the fact that he's a shape shifter,etc but still change thing's I wanna see a new look like maybe one of his eye's are out or,he's still on fire,some bone is exposed in his face and body as long as he does not look like a pizza(i.e. freddy's dead)maybe a little like two face in dark knight..the script is REALLY good and not what I expected..2010 can't get here quick enough hopefully if you guy's bring back the character of kincaid I'll have a shot lol
p.s. You guys should get heather langenkamp aka the original nancy to play gwen the new nancy's mother
Well. I'm asking just this things to make a good Elm Street Movie, please:
-The Nightmare on Elm Street theme. (The thing that bothered me in Friday the 13th Remake was that the the theme wasn't used)
-Make it scary, no comedy lines please (Another thing I didn't like in Friday the 13th)
-No CGI
-A very evil Freddy
-Make it unpredictable.
Thanks for reading and good luck!
I've got to say thank you Mr Fuller. No doubt Haley's role stems from Little Children. I'm sure it will be a fun movie. Freddy Krueger should be a cold, heartless man as he was shown in his debut. If any humor is to be shown at all, it should be dark comedy that not many would pick up on. This would ensure that both sides would be pleased. Oh and take a realistic approach with the effects, don't use CGI. New Line is the house that Freddy built, don't mess with it by adding CGI unless it looks absolutely real.
Whats up Brad? Excellent choice for Freddy.
I feel the remaining cast is not so much of a concern as is the importance of keeping the writing eerie and in regards to the original.
I was not disappointed in your previous remakes of old 80s horror (with the exception of TCM: The Beginning) so to have an Oscar nominated actor as fitting as Jackie Earle Haley on board, your heading in the right direction of another successful franchise.
And I would want to see that sheep in Tina's dream along with a cameo from the great Robert Englund.
I cant wait!
ANOES is one of the best horrors i have ever seen in my life! the score made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end,the tone of the film was very dark and Robert as freddy was perfect! a year or two ago i would have joined "nightmare remake protest" but after "texas chainsaw massacre" and now "friday the 13th" i have total trust in Platinum Dunes!! i didnt think anyone could replace Robert but JEH really does have the skill and the look! (not that im saying he looks like a child murdering demon!)keep up the good work Dunes, i think this will be your best remake yet!
Kudos on the casting of Mr. Haley. The use of a talented, legit actor in the role is imperative to the continued success of the character as well as the film itself. As for Mr. Gallner, I have concerns. I'll take a "we'll see" attitude for now. As for the role of Nancy, obviously, perhaps the most difficult and tricky to cast. I've read rumours that she has been made "goth". Big mistake. No self-respecting average teen in 2009/10 would consider being "goth". The role Nancy hinges on being the relateable, girl-next-door. Others will protest as I look to the CW network and 90210. Both Shenae Grimes and Jessica Stroup would be very capable in this role and bring "it" to the film. Stroup would be especially good if Nancy is darker than in the original. They would also pair well with Gallner. Best of luck.
I think its great news. What upsets me when these remakes comes out is some fans just want to complain. I thought Friday the 13th was great. But I read some people say it wasn't like a Friday the 13th film and then when there are parts that pay homage they complain that there is nothing new about these films. I think the casting choices so far are great. Thank you for bringing back these horror franchises and showing the movie world these films do matter.
People like to cling on to the original series, and sure, I'm attached to them to, but with movies like Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason, it's gone beyond the point of absurd.
What I liked about Friday the 13th is that Jason was more of a character - he could be described in the same was as ever, but there was more motivation and drive to him, you got the sense that he didn't just pop up to kill someone every now and then and that was that. I have to agree though, a bit of fun is alright, but the teenage characters could be more serious and dramatic as well, there's nothing wrong with that at all. I'm sure this take on Freddy will be creepy and interesting, and here's hoping it doesn't go too far overboard when the nightmare comes into play. I'm not overjoyed or horrified about this one, but I'll see it with some curiosity.
Casting is going great I must say. But hey, Derek Mears was an awesome Jason, but the new Friday The 13th still sucked, simply because of the script. I went with three other people and we all just laughed at the ridiculousness of it all (a string with a bell on it 100 feet away? SNORE!) and talked about hor untrue it was to the Jason character for about an hour.
I'm sure Jackie will be a great Freddy, but I've heard things about the script that make me cringe. First of all giving Freddy this sympathy angle about being wrongly accused of being a molester, no one wants to see that! If it turns out he was falsely accused, then man, this flick will BLOW. Then the Depp like character doing.... PODCASTS!?! I think all I have to say about that is... are you fucking serious? What a joke.
Why recast Freddy in the first place? So people know this is a remake and will waste their money to see it? Robert englund is not going to be topped. And the guy isn't getting any younger so your missing the opportunity of having a perfect freddy. Platinum dunes doesn't understand horror. They think it's blood, sex, and people doing drugs. I won't be seeing this film. And I encourage others not to see it. It is made out of greed and by people who cannot see past one film. They need MONEY NOW! And screw up any chance of people paying to see a sequel because they botch the character and story in the first one.
Robert Englund is, by his own admission, to old to strap the glove back on. This is not a remake(as was the case with F-13th), but a relaunch/reboot/reimagination of Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street for a new generation. No one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to watch. They're asking you to keep an open mind and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised. I ask you this, how many times has Dracula or Frankenstein graced the screen played by different actors in movies by different directors over the years? These are classic, iconic characters that are in need of a reinterpretation. Let's let this new generation show us what they can do with Freddy, Jason, Micheal, Pinhead. Sometimes they will succeed. Sometimes they will fail. Can't you just give it time and open mind?

For the film to work I make the following suggestions:
1. Really good makeup for Freddy. After part 3, Freddy's makeup started looking more and more like a latex mask than an actual burn victim (Freddy's Dead makeup was HORRIBLE). Make his face "wet" and freshly burned like it was in part 1 and 2. Also, keep him in the dark. It's much less scary when Freddy is fully lit like he's about to do an America's Next Top Model photo shoot.
2. Someone said it earlier - keep Fred's glove classic. As the series went on, his blades got thicker and thicker. In my opinion, they were a lot scarier when they were thin and homeade looking. Having said that, don't totally redesign the thing to look foreign.
3. Pod cast host?!?!?!
4. Don't overthink the dream kills. We really don't need anyone turning into a cockroach or Freddy eating your head off of a pizza. The best kill was Tina in the original - use that as inspiration.
5. KEEP FREDDY SCARY AND DARK! One liners that are creepy are ok ("this is god") but we don't need to see Freddy being a standup comic with slap-stick humor. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SUGGESTION I FEEL!
6. Make sure to include the jump rope girls and the famous sing-song. Also, it would be cool to include the famous score somehow. It's still creepy as hell! That was of of the things from the new Friday the 13th I felt lacking - they totally replaced the score and the "ch-ch-ch-ha-ha-ha" bit. I'm not saying use them note for note - but to incorporate them somehow in more than just a throwaway piece.
after reading that, i'm fairly confident that you guys told BD to use him in their personal casting choices just so you could see how the fans reacted to it. so basically you manupulated the fans into thinking they chose the new kruger but in reality, you were. as for an oscar nominee, good for him. like i said, you could of done far worse with your choice, and i hope he doesn't use that voice from watchmen and that in post production they go about it the same way they did in the old series but he went something like 20 years without making a movie so it's kinda sad that you didn't atleast shop around for other candidates, since by own admission you were getting calls from named actors. which is probably a lie anyways.
Why don't you cast Kyle's Haunting costars? Virgina Madsen would be one hell of a Marge Thompson and I'd be happy with Amanda Crew for Nancy. But the best choice for Nancy would be Jessica Lowndes. After seeing her in Autopsy I have no doubt.
Jackie is great though.
Great move with the casting of Mr. Haley. After seeing "The Watchmen" I really couldn't picture anybody else in the role of Freddy.
I enjoy the occasional Freddy quip but my hope is that Mr. Haley brings Freddy back to being a really mean bastard.
Can't wait to see it!
I cannot express the whirlwind of disappointment, anger and sorrow I felt when I heard Robert England wasn't going to be Freddy.
However, after seeing Watchmen, I have to say...I'm confident you picked the right replacement.
As someone else said...keep Freddy SCARY.
Also, is http://twitter.com/bcfuller really your twitter account? If so, I'm following you--follow me too! http://twitter.com/diarrheasodapop
Best of luck with our new era of Freddy!
How you could so act with Robert? Person played Freddy 25 years, and you took and sent it. HOW YOU MIGHT??? WHO GAVE TO YOU ON THIS RIGHT??? IF YOU WILL DECIDE TO REMOVE PREQUEL OR "FREDDY VS JASON 2" AND ROBERT DOES NOT AWAKE TO PLAY FREDDY, YOU WILL BECOME PRESENT VERMIN! AND MY LAST WISH: ASSUME THAT YOUR CRAPPY REMAKE WILL FAIL!!!
After reading through all the other comments, I have to add...the style of music in the first film is VERY IMPORTANT, oh my. Also, I saw this fan-made trailer on YouTube and thought their vision of Freddy was incredible. The constant burning...very creative, very cool...very scary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxPmOP1_HIY
I love the idea if doing Nightmare, but it's gonna be hard to replace Robert Englund as Freddy. I'm just not sure about this one. I hope it comes out alright. What happened anyway? Did Robert just not want to do it, or was he not asked? Or are they just going back to when Freddy was younger. Just curious.
Mean, Dirty and fucking Twisted with only a TOUCH of humor -- these are the things Freddy needs to be and I hope to god you keep it this way.
I loved the TCSM-the beginning (not so much the other one) and I really enjoyed your Friday movie. I've got faith in you guys that this will be the best one yet!!! GOOD LUCK!! Oh and The Hitcher kicked ass too :)
oh and fuck, I dont know where else to say it but i'de love to see a remake of Amityville 2: The Possession as thats one of my favorite horror movies of all time and you've already done the first one... adequetly :()
I'm against this remake but nothing I will say will stop it getting made. So I ask of one thing. Please consider rewriting the beginning of the film. If it's true about the Guitar Hero party then this needs changing. By having a Guitar Hero party where we get to know these characters the film will be dated in a few years time. What's wrong with teens just hanging out with one another round one of their houses watching films, listening to music. I know teens play Guitar Hero but in ten years tim, this may look crap. If you're trying to make a new classic then you don't want it to date to quick. Just look at the original, apart from the clothes it hasn't dated a bit. I hope you listen to this but I doubt you will.
hi im in chicago area and am extremely interested in any extras casting information you might have about being involved in this film. i did some research and came across one email-nightmareresumes@gmail.com-but am not sure of the legitimate nature of it. any clarification would be nice.
I agree with Craig_666 and everyone else who has expressed concern over Guitar Hero, podcasts, and other lame ideas that are going to seriously date this movie. We don't want it to be tired in 2010. I don't recall Nintendo in Dream Warriors or Jason Lives.
I for one am well on board for a remake and after the Friday the 13th remake I believe that such a film is in the right hands. If there is just ONE request i hope you read is please, please, please make it SCARY and SUSPENSFUL, not just an up-dated gore fest!
Remember it is suspense that drew audiences to the first ever horror films released 100 years ago and it is that key ingredient that will keep audiences coming particularly when it comes to a film like NOES
It's no secret that I have been on board with this decision before it was even made. I'm glad you're moving in a different direction and I am glad you are trying something new. Perfect choice....does Englund have a cameo though?
Before I begin, let me say that I completely agree with rusted31 (keep it dark, nasty, and brutal…), jaosnisdead (I think its great news…), rosemarysgaybaby (Robert Englund is…). I’ve been waiting for a remake or a reboot of ANOES for as long as I can remember. The closest thing was The New Nightmare, and there was only a few similar scenes. I am so happy Platinum Dunes are behind this one. The best company, the best people, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Can’t wait! Jackie is the perfect choice for Freddy, but am scared to find out who’s going to play Nancy. I want to say, “WOW, she’s perfect.”
Hey Brad and Drew, Robert here. I just want to express that Jackie Earle Haley was the only choice, and that the people that don't agree with his casting, must be delusional. He's perfect, he IS Krueger. I respect Robert Englund, but Jackie Earle is a finer actor, and here's a chance to one-up him a'la Heath Ledger being a superior Joker than Jack.
Just remember, as previously noted, focus on making a good film, not a good slasher film. I'd suggest taking a list of all slasher-flick stereotypes/cliches, and avoid them in making the picture. If you spot one, rectify it.
Samuel Bayer has potential to create an ambient and nihilistic world, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt. The key though is a seasoned cinematographer, and a minimal of quick-editing. Take a look at the original Alien for example, you get a chance to soak up the world they're in due to Ridley Scott's camera angles.
I wish you all luck in making the picture. Make a good picture(not just a good slasher film, 'Nightmare' was always a cut above the rest), and make great use of Jackie Earle! That man marries the characters he plays, he's fantastic.
I'm not interested in an hour and half worth of "jump scares" here. While I enjoyed the TCM and F13 remakes, I felt like the personalities of the original films were washed away and we were left with two indistinct slasher movies that were virtually carbon copies of each other in terms of style and tone. This one needs more emphasis on atmosphere and should maintain and build a nice creepy vibe and leave viewers with an escalating feeling of dread. As someone else mentioned, lets really try and make this feel like a dark and twisted nightmare, a la David Lynch. And I don't need to "relate" to someone's idea of the target demographic as protagonists. How about some real characters, not like me, just believable. Haley's a great choice for Freddy.
Hey Brad,
PsychoSlasher here. Let me just start by saying that you guys are off to a great start by casting Haley as our new Freddy Krueger. I have heard nothing but positive things regarding his portrayal of Rorschach in WATCHMEN and I have also been fortunate enough to have seen his performance in the independent film Little Children. I am and have always been a die-hard Friday the 13th/Jason fanboy all the way, but Mr. Krueger has always held a special place in my heart as well. And honestly, I couldn't be more open to a re-imagining of the story and the character.
While I was not over the moon about Platinum Dunes' reboot of Friday the 13th sadly (however, you guys definatley have the potential to improve upon it in a big way in the sequel, just for the record) I do feel that you guys we're able to finally define the character of Jason Voorhees and pull him out of that "identity crisis" if you will. But when it comes to Freddy, you guys will have a huge uphill battle all of the way. Robert Englund made that character his own, and while I don't doubt Mr. Haley's ability to make the role his own as well...you will probably have legion's of fans ready to bitch regardless of how great Haley's performance could potentially be.
And on a final note, I strongly believe that Dunes' version of Freddy Krueger has to be a pedophile. In our society, there is nothing more repulsive and disgusting than a child-molester. And in making Freddy a pedophile, you make him scarier, more disgusting, sadistic and intimidating.
-Thanks for hearing my opinion,
PsychoSlasher.
For God's sake, please give us some characters to root for. One of the greatest parts of the original 'Nightmare' is you feel for Nancy, and you really want her to outwit Freddy at the end. You feel bad for every character that bites it. I haven't read the script so I'm not going to sell this one down the river, but hopefully it isn't a bunch of faceless dweebs who make pot jokes every other line. The only reason I'm seeing this is because of Earl-Haley, so whoever made that casting decision just broke this bitch wide open. Well done.
For the concept of the film you guys should take a look at this fanmade teaser, it's great! gets some ideas!

Hey, Brad.
I just wanted to say that I am beyond excited for your film. I am a huge Jackie Earle Haley fan (loved him in Little Children and Watchmen)... and I can't thank you enough for getting him for the role of Freddy. A best actor nom for Freddy? Sign me up! Haley will undoubtedly own this role... and again I thank you for all of your effort.
I have one casting recommendation for you... for the role of Nancy. I recently saw Adventureland... and was amazed by Kristen Stewart's performance. I believe that she would be a phenomenal choice for the role of Nancy. She is beautiful without being fake looking... and is a stunning actress. She also has a history in horror in the Messengers film. PLEASE CONSIDER HER. She would be great for the film!
Hey Brad, i think you guys made the perfect choice by choosing Jackie as the new Freddy. I for one loved the new Friday the 13th because it was just great to see Jason back on the big screen in a great way, (and not in space...haha). But anyways just to add my two cents...this new Nightmare should be real dark. Like my colleauges above me say....the guy was a child molestor/killer! So he should just be the sickest motherfucker that he can be. Anyways, no matter what i think that this film is gonna kick ass no matter what happens. Am i the only only one who has faith in you guys??? haha
Absolutely brilliant casting for Freddy, at least. My biggest and really only expectation for the film is that is as different, fresh and exciting as it can possibly be, while still honoring the mythology of the series (ie: the notion of the dream killer). I hope it as divergent from the original as you can get, but still using the same brilliant concept of a shadowy killer stalking one's inner thoughts. I didn't particularily enjoy the latest Friday the 13th or the sequel to the 03 Chainsaw Massacre, but I think with just the casting of this important character and the screenwriter tapped to do the script, this could turn out great. I hope this is truly a "reinvention" as is so often the phrase used these days, as opposed to a simple retread or regurgitation as most (well, really ALL) of the new adaptations have proven to be in the past few years. Good luck to all involved. You have your work cut out. Brad...this puppy deserves the best treatment it can get. Dont disappoint us.
First of all, thanks a lot for reading the comments of us the die hard fans of horror genre movie. Casting Jackie in this movie was a total right decision. He would be remembered as Freddy all time, I can tell. And casting Kyle Gallner is a total blessing. I have watched his TV performance since 2000 (love The Closer, Cold Case, Veronica Mars, Smallville, The Shield, CSI NY, Life). Thank you so much for selecting him to act in the movie, thanks the producer. Thanks everyone. Kyle is such a talented actor. He delievered his lines effectively and he makes every lines count. I am not surprise that you signed him up on the day of his audition. He was brilliant in Haunting In Connecticut. He played the person suffering with cancer very convincing!! So far he delivered all his roles impressively (love when he played a pshychokiller in Veronica Mars, the masacre murderer in Cold Case, the sad tortured soul in THe Closer after all his family members were stabbed to death, an ambitious young journalist in CSI NY). Kyle should be given a character so that he will rise and known to world. I just wish that there will be director or producer who will give him different genre of character (no more thriller,horror,pschokiller,murderer). Even James Franco is amazing in Pineapple Express. Kyle need to have an important lead role. And I am so sad that in this movie remake, his character will die unless the producer would like to try something new. Oh..I would be really interested to contribute in this movie (will travel all the way from UK..:) not to act, just to learn. Thanks.
I wanted to just add, please ignore fan nit pickiness. That for me, is what ruined the new Friday. I found there to be too many elements crammed into the story for fan service. That was detrimental in my opinion. Obviously fans are important, but they can also, sometimes, interfere too heavily with the creative process. I'm begging you: forget the demands of so called "purists" and just do something different. Go with your intincts, for the love of God. If you do, the film will turn out better for everyone involved, including the fans/purists. Make it DIFFERENT.
I think Jackie is the perfect person to step in as the new Freddy. Just look at him...physically he looks perfect for the role. Oh, and he can act. Great choice.
It will be interesting to see who the new Nancy is...
I would imagine that Elm street is one of the most challenging films to remake, as Englund's personality shone so strongly from under the burn make-up. To make a new Jason, Leatherface or M.M. would seem to be more of a body type thing, but Freddy has timing; lines. I am sooooo pleased that you got J.E. Haley. The bad news bears is one of the first movies i ever saw in a theater (when I was like,3) by contrast, Elm street was the first movie I saw in a theater that scared the shit outta me (when I was like, 7). Personally, your casting helps my story arch!
Sidenote, I wonder if freddy is a pervert. It would seem that a child molester/ murderer would be a bit more sleezy than freddy ended up being by the 3rd movie. Granted, he was cruel and a trickster, but nothing he did in any subsequent movie got under my skin as much as when his tongue came out of heather l's phone receiver in the first movie. There was definitely something "molesty" or pervy in that act. It added defined sexuality to the monster as opposed to the default sexuality that just kinda comes with being a monster (not that i speak from experience....) and while a monster that kills you in your sleep is scary, one that tries to touch your naughties before killing you is degrading and scary.
I dunno, jes ramblin....
The issue I personally have with remaking "A Nightmare On Elm Street" has nothing to do with the caliber of the actors or the quality of their performance, nor does it have to do with my disdain for remakes in general. It has everything to do with the fact that the original is a classic, it still stands on its own even by today's standards, and the simple fact that Robert Englund is Freddy Krueger. Period. When back looking at Platinum Dunes previous work on TCM and F13 I actually agree with your line of thinking in that both of those franchises were effectively written into corners with no way of regaining any legitimacy. That philosophy simply does not apply to the Nightmare franchise, as Freddy VS Jason proved. The character of Freddy Krueger is based in the realm of dreams, which means that there is no corner that cannot be written out of. With all due respect to what you have accomplished, doesn't it seem like it might be time to start creating your own material? It almost seems as if Platinum Dunes has no respect for the history from which these classics were spawned. It almost seems a shame that there even was a writers strike in 2007-08, since nobody seems to be able to actually write anymore.
OMG!! only one choice period for Nancy and thats Anna Paquin. please make Anna Paquin Nancy! look at this pic and you can see her as Nancy. shes a wonderful actress too that could do the job justice and resemble Heather in ways.
<a href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/w1b31c.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>
shit! the pic didnt send. sorry about that. Anna Paquin only for Nancy
<a href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/w1b31c.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>
Anna Paquin, as muchn as i love her on true blood is a tad too old for the role of Nancy!
KARLE WARREN GUYS, WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3813971456/nm0912910
SHE HAS DARK HAIR NOW, would be perfect
Nope, you are wrong Platinum Dunes. The ONLY choice for Freddy Krueger is and always will be Robert Englund. Can you guys atleast confirm or not confirm if he was even considered/offered the role? I enjoyed your previous remakes but this one should not be touched. This truly is a sad day for horror fans. Boo.
Please write characters worth caring about. It's what makes horror movies scary. I don't want to see a group of kids looking for weed, or something equally retarded.
just make sure the storys actually worth a damn, and the most important thing is going to be the dream sequences and the way they look, dont go overboard on cgi nonsense make sure to get alot of practical effects and sets as well to mix in.
Robert is too old as he himself admitted to portray this role. Also you dont reboot a series with the same actor. Because he wont be able to continue on in the series!!
ALRIGHT I THINK YOU MADE A SMART DECISION ON WHO TO PLAY FREDDY EVEN THO ENGLUND SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO REPRISE THE ROLE... I WOULD JUST LIKE A VISION INTO HOW YOU ARE GONNA RECREATE FREDDY? ON A SERIOUS MATTER JASON, MICHAEL MYERS THOSE GUYS COULD HAVE BEEN REMADE I DONT THINK FREDDY COULD BE REMADE IN THIS DAY AND AGE I THINK THE FREDDY SAGA HAS BECAME A JOKE. I MEAN JASON TOO WITH JASON IN SPACE BUT SEE THE THING IS FRDDDY TALKS AND I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW HE COULD BE MADE SCARY AFTER THE NONSENSE THAT HAS BRANDED HIM? I HONESTLY THINK THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE A PREQUEL!!!HEAR ME OUT ALOT OF FANS AR COMPLAINING THAT PLATINUM DUNES MOVIES ARE FULLFILLING GORE WISE BUT LACK STORYLINE COMPARABLE TO THE ORIGINALS. FRIDAY THE 13TH REMAKE WAS GOOD BUT IT BORED ME CUZ I DIDNT EXCEED MY EXPECTATIONS IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED THAT'S WHAT MAD IT "ONLY" AN OK MOVIE IN MY EYES. I THINK THAT A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST SHOULD BE TOUCHED BY THE ROB ZOMBIE EFFECT ON HALLOWEEN!!!! I THINK WITH THE NEW NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. YOU GUYS SHOULD EXPLORE INTO THE BACKGROUND OF FREDDY BEFORE HE WAS DEAD, EXPLORE INTO THE HUMAN SIDE OF FREDDY WHEN HE WAS A JANITOR AND HOW HE KILLED BEFORE HE WAS BURNT TO DEATH.I THINK FREDDY'S LEGACY IS ONE THAT SHOULD BE RECREATED AND NOT JUST ANOTHER REMAKE!!! WHERE JASON'S LEGACY CANT BE RE-INSTATED BECAUSE IT HAS ALREADY BEEN BRANDED TOO MANY TIMES... THE FREDDY LEGACY COULD BE REMADE BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN UNTOUCHED AND I THINK THIS WOULD BE THE BEST THINK THIS FRANCHISE HAS EVER EXPIERENCED...!!!
I absolutely hate the "Nightmare On Elm Street" franchise, but what you guys at "Platinum Dunes" have accomplished with your films is nothing short of astonishing. You are #2 on my favourite produciton company, behind "Dark Castle Entertainment". With this film, I't can't be overlly cheesy, and be really CGI looking, because that's always bad. I reckon doing it hardcore R18+ (US R rating) would be amazing. I think you should not do a shot-for-shot remake, but change elements that didn't quite work well in the first film, just by viewing it you can see them. Good luck, and i hope this isn't the first film i hate by you :)
~~~~Billy Brown
Just some names: Nicholas D'Agosto, Sarah Roemer, Hayden Panettiere, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Paxton, Juiliana Guill, Travis Van Winkle, Ed Westwick, Blake Lively
this would be a perfect cast. Well i put in the two actors already cast they are excluded lol
1) Nancy- Karle Warren (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3813971456/nm0912910)
2) Kris- Kirby Bliss Banton (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm783127552/nm1926300)
3.)Kris' Mom-Stacey Barrington(http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1710265856/nm2740324 )
4.)Quentin- Kyle Gallner (no choice)
5.)Jesse- Brock Kelly (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1965968/)
6.) Freddy- Jackie Earle Haley
yes but kyle gallner wont do that.
Meanwhile Karle and Kirby would suit the roles to a tee. And Brock would rock as Jesse.
They are all attractive up and comers sure to attract fans attentions
You don't have to litter the film with nostalgia. We've all seen all the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street films. Don't litter the screenplay with cheese, gratuitous nudity and please, try to work on dialogue.
I enjoyed the Friday the 13th reboot, very much, but the over-abundance of nudity and 2 dimensional characters seemed like a cheap cop out, that instead of writing in characters with depth, you just kinda tacked on 'Billy - He's mean. Jeff - He's dumb. Possibly gay. Lacey - Big hooters. Janey - Big hooters. All Characters - No brains. Just spineless idiots.'
Like, watch 'The Departed' or something like that. Characters in horror films can be realistic. It'd only add to the believability of the film.
And for the record, ignore the haters. Or at least the ones with nothing intelligent to say. Their IQ scores are on par with the current number of Elm Street films. You guys do a great job.
-The Comedian :)
Karle Warren, please SHE WOULD BE THE PERFECT NANCY IN THE REMAKE.
She is the perfect one for the role, she is cute, adorable, she can play the innocent, sweet, shy part really well.
Karle Warren for NANCY THOMPSON
Then James Lafferty(Nathan, One Tree Hill) would be the perfect actor to play Jessie in the remake.
Karle Warren would be the PERFECT Nancy Thompson.
She has the sweet, innocent, shy look. She is really cute and adorable...that is what Nancy is. She isn't suppose to be this prom queen beauty queen type girl. She is suppose to be shy, innocent but cute and beautiful too.
Karle Warren can deliever a great perfomance as NANCY THOMPSON.
No Karle Warren just has the Nancy look. She is cute, adorable the look that Nancy should have.
Karle has the innocent, shy look to her. I am sure she is a great actress as well but RIGHT NOW I am talking about the look.
first of all, i personally have enjoyed all the platinum dunes movies. of course the originals will always be the classic and best version, but the remakes or reboots were pretty interesting updates i thought. with a new nightmare film it will definetly be hard to please everyone, but i think if the filmakers try to make a truly scary film that can hopefully keep the essence of robert englunds freddy but at the same time changing it so haley can make freddy his own, then most likely the film will be pretty good. thinking of actors seems like a daunting task to me, so im glad its not my job. lol. i do think that jobeth williams or annette o' toole could be good in the role as nancys mom. but i am biased since poltergeist is my favorite movie, and i love annette in the show smallville
Apparently She is actually 17. So it wouldn't be that bad and i mean it's not like there is too much lovely dovey stuff with Nancy!!
if nude scenes Body double!:)
team karlee! no amanda crew no way no how
I still can't stand the idea that someone else plays Freddy. Everytime when I will see Haley onscreen as Freddy it will feel like I am watching an impostor of Freddy,a copycat. I am all for making the reboot of a franchise your own movie and go at it with a different approach but still keepeing the key elements of the original. The TCM and F13 reboots did that brilliantly. But Leatherface and Jason are silent killers whose faces are hidden behind masks and not representative of the characters. And that is very different with characters like Freddy or Pinhead. These characters talk and their voices are so unique and trademarks of these characters. And thier faces represent these characters. Thats why you just cant replace Englund or Bradley. No matter how good the new actors are,even if they are better than Robert and Doug were, I will never be able to loose the feeling that I am watching copys of the real Freddy or Pinhead. I just can't accept these new guys because Robert and Doug to me are inseperable connected to Freddy and Pinhead. At least let Robert SPEAK Freddy (via voiceover) in the movie. At least let us keep Freddys unique voice.
I'm not sure if you read all 100 comments but I think Jackie is a good choice. The only thing that doesn't sound good is the Guitar Hero opening and the whole storyline where Freddy might of been innocent and is seeking revenge against the children after being wrongfully accused. Freddy needs to be dark and scary and a psycho killer.
Don't cast any of that CW shit.
Hate to roll with the flow here but i am gonna have to cast my vote for the cast this way.
Nancy-Ana Paquin or Karle Warren (both look pretty good to me)
Jesse- Jeremy Sumpter maybe?
Kris- Definitely Chelan Simmons! Shes a babe!
ROBERT ENGLUND AS FREDDY
No other actress I will except in the role other then KARLE WARREN as the legendary role of Nancy Thompson.
She is the perfect choice for the role.
Please if any of the casting directors read this and if she auditioned for the role. SHE IS PERFECT FOR NANCY
OMG BIG BIG BIG NEWS for the role of Jessie. I just read on another forum...
'One Tree Hill' star Chad Michael Murray is being strongly considered for the role of Jessie.
I was kinding about CMM, it was actually Chase Crawford from gossip girl what i read about.
Chase Crawford is being strongly considered for Jessie. Not Chad Michael Murray, i was joking regarding Chad.
maybe Chace would be ok. Just because well actually he is a little old to play a HS kid isn't he?
they should cast actors who kind of remotely resemble HSers.
So far from the current crop mentioned:
karlee Warren- Nancy I LIKE
or Anneliese van der Pol!
For Jesse how about that guy from Kyle XY, Jon Luc Bilodeau?
just cast actors who look like Hsers. PLS! for the love of god!
Kris, IDK, a hot girl with a nice rack, its ok if she looks older:)
Daniel B. Wright for Jesse!
Also, eff that CGI crap. Just do practical effects looks much slicker onscreen and isn't a total fakeout. Cgi ruins films! Take a cue from Adam Green!
Kristen Stewart does not need a hefty paycheck to be involved in the film... she was in ADVENTURELAND.
trust me... she would be a superb Nancy...
I RECOMMEND KRISTEN STEWART.
She would be excellent opposite JEH.
Im a little surprised all these ppl agree about Karle! But very excited about it!!
Shes a terrific actress, you should just give her a shot atleast! what could it hurt?
She is absolutely awesome! and has the look the new nancy needs to have. someone youthful and attractive but in an innocent girl next door kind of way!
Karle needs to have that role!! she'll nail it. you will see! if you atke any feedback from these posts just listen to this one! and everyone else who agrees:)
Karle Warren is one of the top candidates for Nancy. I read that.
Kare is the Perfect new nancy. She has the same feature Heather Langencamp did in the original. Both are great actresses.
Karle is young, attractive but I agree she has the innocent girl next door look for her which is what Nancy SHOULD BE.
Here is to Karle Warren as the NEW NANCY THOMPSON
someone had said:
These are my top 10 choices for Nancy: 1) Jenna Dewan, 2) Jessica Lowndes, 3) Jessica Stroup, 4) Miracle Laurie, 5) Megan Fox, 6) Nina Dobrev, 7) Leela Savasta, 8) Leighton Meester, 9) Olivia Thirlby, 10) Nikki Reed.
They are already all over the place, just like the original ANOES they need to go with someone who has charisma and star power but is relatively a smaller force but a force to be reckoned with.. and most of those girls are overplayed!
Megan Fox doesn't have the look of Nancy. She is too "Supermodelish/Prom Queen". She doesn't have the cute, innocent, shy look that Karle can bring but who is also very attractive.
Karle should be the one casted as Nancy. I really hope Platunum dune reads this and get that
KARLE WARREN IS THE PERFECT CHOICE OF NANCY. HERE IS WHY
Nancy is not suppose to be this over-sexed, Supermodel, prom Queenish girl. She is suppose to be cute, attractive, shy, innocent virgin looking, non-social but yet beautiful and cute. Karle has that look, she is a great actress, very attractive/Cute. She has everything that Heather Langencamp made Nancy special in the original.
I hope people realize that Karle is the best choice for the role of Nancy Thompson.
help and join her support
KARLE WARREN AS THE NEW NANCY THOMPSON...Please
Dastuff:
are u effing serious, oh my god. If u are joking, not funny at all. I really want Karle to be Nancy because I truly believe she is the perfect actress for the role.
She has alot to live up to with Heather Langencamp but Karle has alot features that Heather Langencamp did in the original nightmare with Nancy.
OMG I totally agree, I am not watching this movie if Karle is not Nancy.
KARLE MUST BE NANCY or I will not be seeing it.
KARLE KARLE KARLE AS NANCY THOMPSON
KARLE WARREN AS NANCY THOMPSON
KARLE WARREN AS NANCY THOMPSON
KARLE WARREN AS NANCY THOMPSON
KARLE WARREN AS NANCY THOMPSON
PLEASE, cast her. SHE IS PERFECT FOR THE ROLE.
I've seen this mentioned on the postings already, so I'm glad I'm not alone in this. While I'm sure it is a given we will hear the jumprope song carry over, the same cannot be said for Charles Bernstein's score. I cannot stress enough how much I want the theme to carry on into this film. I know it isn't true for everyone, but for me, the Nightmare theme as composed by Charles Bernstein is just as iconic and important, if not more so, than the Halloween theme. I really hope it you guys use it, as the music was creepy and atmospheric back then, and it could be used greatly in the new movie.
This remake, above all the others that have come and those that are still to come, means a great deal to me. As my name suggests, ANOES is not only my favorite horror film, by my favorite film of all time. I will miss Robert, the role is his legacy. But I am very excited to see how Jackie adapts what Robert created to bring it into a new era.
I agree that robert englund is and will forever be the 1st freddy krueger but to the TRUE noes fans this is a MAJOR blessing this means that freddy will not just be a charcter that dies with the man who first portrayed him,In saying that when robert passes freddy wont go with him,but he will FOREVER be known as the greatest and first,but the character that is freddy will forever live on for hundred's of years as we talk about dracula,frankenstine the wolfman the mummy etc our children's children's children will put the name freddy krueger with that list of the greatest movie monster's ever and sooooooo many actor's that have yet to even be born will portray this character so if you are a fan dont bitch about it!! be glad that the legacy wont die with freddy vs jason be glad that hollywood and the world made freddy so notorious that he can't die his story will be remade again and again and I'm proud to be apart of history in saying I know of the original!!Realize if it was up to robert englund freddy would be no more because he say's he is to old to do it and that he is done with the character FOREVER!!But thanx to these guy's freddy's not dead he's just evolving...
OK, So I'll remove Megan fox from my list. She is a bit too old for the role. So I'll replace her with Emma Watson. Where in hell does Karle look like Nancy? I would not like her for the role. She does nothing for me. And please, we get it, you love Karle, enough already.
jessica stroup would be great for nancy.
NO Karlee looks identical to Jessica and is unknown. Has the appeal and the looks without actually being her. plus she isnt some sellout anorexic girl. She looks exactly like a regular girl the characters age would look like.
NOT MARGO HARSHMAN, she is not a good actress, no offense. Honestly I don't know who else would be good for Nancy besides Karle. I mean she is an amazing actress.
HEADS UP!
1) Nancy- Karle Warren (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3813971456/nm0912910)
2) Kris- Kirby Bliss Banton (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm783127552/nm1926300)
3.)Kris' Mom-Stacey Barrington(http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1710265856/nm2740324 )
4.)Quentin- Kyle Gallner (no choice)
5.)Jesse- Brock Kelly (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1965968/)
6.) Freddy- Jackie Earle Haley
Other people agree too! You need this cast. They can do it better!
i definately like that cast
emma watson,jessica stroup,alexa vega,shannon woodward,Margo Harshman
NONONO.
Emma watson, not gonna fly she wouldnt do it.
Jessica Stroup, been in too many flicks like this besides dont u think her purse is thick enough? Alexa Vega, interesting maybe, although idk.. kind of miscast if she was Nancy.
Margo Harshman, YUCK. Did anyone see FIRED UP? NO THANKS.
shannon woodward is a Solid actress I will admit that!
First, If you're reading this post thinking about how one more person is ready to commend your bold decision making towards this project than don't bother reading any further. I got criticisms and only criticisms. That is the only thing that is going to make this endeavor better. Second, no matter what you do you're going to make money with this production. You can't lose. Just look at Friday The 13th. Third, lets take A look at the moves on the chessboard that have been made so far. Wesley Strick. The writer of Arachnophobia. Doom. Wolf!?! WTF? I don't know what this guy has up his sleeve, but it better be nothing short of mind numbingly imaginative. And judging from everything Latino Review posted about the script it's not the kind of mind numbing I'm looking forward to. A pod caster. Everyone playing guitar hero at the beginning. Could this be A little more trendy. Please. "Now #30" is number one on the billboard music charts this week. Maybe you could put Lady GaGa's "Just Dance" somewhere in there. Could you date it with A few more fads, please? And then there's the mystery on whether or not Krueger is really A bad guy. I think either way you go on this it's A bad decision. If he is. Well, it was known all along. Yawn. If he isn't. Wait. What? He's not? Innocent. Freddy Krueger? What on god's green earth would be the point of watching "A Nightmare On Elm Street" if he was innocent. What made the original so great is the ground breaking idea of dreams not being safe. It was A new age ghost story. In other words, How the hell do you defeat something that is simply an apparition? The puzzling aesthetic of that is what made Elm Street so great. And what kept it going strong for Seven sequels. You make him innocent. You defeat the whole purpose of the original. Now, if you were to set it up where three/fourths of the way through Krueger had some motive behind getting people to believe he was innocent and in the next to, if not, very last scene it turns out he was the bad guy all along and has tricked everyone, then that would be the best way to play the "Is he good?" or "Is he bad?" scenario. Next up, Samuel Bayer. This is the only good decision I've seen made. But the problem with Samuel Bayer won't be the way he shoots it. (He isn't freaking Robert Rodriguez). The problem with Bayer is going to be his handling of the technical side of formulating A cohesive movie. But being the fact that this is without A doubt A great opportunity to prove himself. I think he will try his hardest. However, his best might not be good enough. Next Up, Jackie Earle Haley. I guess someone's following Strick's example and going with what's trendy. You put on one gruff voice in A movie and suddenly you're everybody's go to guy for A villain. I wish someone would have tried A little harder for somebody completely unknown. But what's done is done. Not menacing looking. Not threateningly overbearing. Sigh. I don't know what you plan to get from this casting. His teeth could be something to work with. But Robert Englund, He is not. And Robert Englund is much more intelligent than people give him credit for. If I had to say the best things to work with on an idea like the project you're working on. I'd say redesign the makeup. And try to make those dream sequences as vividly bizarre as possible. Let's remember something here. Elm Street Part 1. And Elm Street Part 3 were the best of the formal series. Because the dream sequences were so abstract and Because the dynamics of the plot with regard to the kids and their interaction between each other changed. The fourth made the most money, but judging from watching the movie I think it only made that because of the strength of the third. And anyone who doesn't believe that A sequel can garner more money than it's predecessor based solely on it's reputation needs to watch Spider-man 3 one more time. If you can. Lastly, if I had to pick someone right now to play Nancy I'd go with Nina Dobrev. Simply because I think she looks balanced to the casting of Kyle Gallner. But that's just from reading A few other posts. That's all ladies and gentlemen. Have fun screwing it up. I know you will. You couldn't possibly put too much thought into anything working for Michael Bay. Just watch Friday The 13th.
OK this is what Karle looks like today, well recently anyways!
I think she'd fit Nancy perfectly anyone else agree, after seeing the recnt pics?
Platinum dunes is a great company.My first choice is michelle trachenberg she would own the part.Emmy Rossum would kick ass.Love to also see jessica stroup.
Count me in!!! I def think KARLE WARREN is absolutely perfect for the role of Nancy Thompson.
You have My vote for her to be cast in the remake as Nancy.
I think checking to see if Heather Langenkamp would make an appearance would be a true homage to the series and to nightmare on elm street fans. I also believe that the main character Nancy should remain Nancy Thompson. That character name is so symbolic with the NOES movies. Its as iconic as Pamela Voorhees. Nancy should stay Nancy Thompson.
It looks like everyone getting on the bandwagon of this Karle Warren as Nancy. I am one to go with the most popular choice. So why not, Cast her as Nancy. Karle Warren as Nancy!!!!
If you must know, I have recruited people from imdb.com to voice their opinions if they want karle an actress with talent and looks to play nancy as opposed to a stale actress with quasi looks and not talent to play it.
So this is what happened. Guess beauty is only skin deep after all. Talent is where it's at. Atleast it should be.
I realize the cast and crew have no doubt been locked down for the picture, but if the box office results insist on a sequel, I would suggest recruiting cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who would create a very elliptical language suited for this type of movie. In my opinion the harsh bleached out look for TCM and F13th are perfect for said films, but Nightmare most certainly requires a more vibrant atmosphere. Like I said, Alien and Blade Runner are great examples. That said, Jackie Earle Haley, post-Watchmen, must've been getting lots of offers, so this is a telltale sign to me that you guys have a great script on your hands. This certainly has much potential to stand side-by-side with the original, or, dare I say, top it? I have faith. Knock it out of the ballpark, guys.
Here's a thread with great constructive criticism, take it how you see fit: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1179056/board/thread/134919251? d=134919251&p=1#134919251 One of the quotes, I don't know if it bares revelance or not: "And characters acting tough to Freddy is just stupid. You are in his element, how is the audience suppose to be frightened for the character when he/she isn't even acting frightened? I don't know about anyone else but if I pulled Freddy out of the dream world I don't think I'd be thinking about who he killed, I'd be thinking about making sure he didn't kill me." And some people are saying that Nancy is apparently a loner, though I haven't read the script. They are hoping you rectify that, as she is not a Laurie Strode type character, she has friends and is a pretty normal teen. I also think the line from the original movie has to be in this one: "Whatever you do, don't fall asleep." Even Wes Craven agrees that that line IS the movie.
I'd also cast Karle Warren, to save the day:). Shed make a perfect Nancy!
Anyways i have stated my claim several tiems I rest in piece on the Karle front.
However I hope that the draft I read doesnt change too much because I personally found it very enjoyable, and when pushing the fact it is a remake out of my head, it would have been a film id go watch wether or not i kenw about it's predeccesors!
LOL Karle Warren won't be in this movie your spitting in the wind with the sane posts it's the same person posting the same message.This actress doesn't have that many fans.
Great choice in picking the new Freddy I just hope the script/story is one that will be true to the previous films. Unlike most horror classics the original NOES has one of the best plots ever and really draws you in. It wasn't campy and thus made it such a classic.
Don't get me wrong...I love Haley, but I thought the point of recasting Freddy was to go with someone a little younger. If you're going to go with someone Robert Englund's age...there's not a lot you can say to the fanboys crying out that he should still have the part. I've liked Kyle Gallner for a long time though, so along with Sam Bayer finally directing a feature...I'm pretty much sold.
Seriously, miafan...Karle Warren is never going to happen. This role is going to someone with some kind of recognition factor. Emma Roberts would be a good Nancy had she not just signed for the new Joel Schumacher film.
What is up with all this Karle Warren buzz? I can barelly find anything from her aside from her as 10 years old in Judging Amy.
I think mabe somebody more experienced and well known perhaps Ellen Paige age 21 (Juno, X-Men 3, Hard Candy) for Nancy.
And for Kris how about Spencer Locke? age 17(Resident Evil 3 : Extinction and Tv's Cold Case)
good work on the casting so far as a hard core horror fan im going to say your suff has been hit and miss. i appricate the care you took in recasting freddy and hope you show the same care and concideration in the script and the rest of the casting. this movie means so much to the fans (this is the movie that started my addiction to the genre) make sure this one's a hit not a miss. (getting Robert Englund to do a cameo would defnatly earn points)
I have to say I'm disappointed this is not an outright remake. I don't see much, outside the realm of special effects, that could be improved on. Please keep the film dark, serious, scary and merciless. Fred Krueger was a child murderer. Keep it that way. Do not try and make him sympathetic. Ditch Guitar/Podcasts. One of the reasons the original endures is that it's timeless.
.... im all for Karle Warren as Nancy too. Great choice in every way... the last thing we need is a bombshell type girl (ala megan fox) to completely ruin the character
I've been supportive till now but the script sucks.Freddy was a handsome pervert who melested kids but never murdered any till the parents accidentally set him on fire.WTF?Why did he even bother making his glove in the first place?After F13 and TCM I thought Freddy was in good hands but this movie is fucked already and all the great casting in the world wont save it.Sack the script writer and start again 'cause there aint a Freddy fan alive who will accept this bullshit.
Robert Englund is Freddy Kruger, replacing him as killed this movie with one move. How stupid must these moviemakers be. Jackie Earle Haley sucks, he is no Robert Englund and he is no Freddy Kruger. Without Robert Englund as Freddy I most likely will not be seeing this one.
A quote from someone on IMDB:
"It was isolation, pure and simple. The original hit the nail on the head that Nancy was alone in the struggle. Those who knew(Tina and Rod) were dispatched, her parents didn't want to hear it and Glen didn't believe her. Nancy was slowly becoming distant from everybody who she cared about. The original was more of a personal struggle more than anything. Remember, Nancy questioned her sanity."
Briana Evigan is over exposed in this genre and not exactly Meryl Streep. The more I think about(especially questioning her sanity), Michelle Trachtenberg could rock this.
I'm still sticking to my guns here... even with all of the Karle Warren "buzz" (be it from the same person or not.
If Kristen Stewart isn't otherwise occupied... you should definitely give her a look.
KRISTEN.
Okay so dont agree with the fact your planning on doing a film which u predict will be better than wes cravens! he rules horror! but okay i cant stop you...just wish you guys luck! it wont fail i will tell you that. i reacon around $130million. but the point is...will any oof the people who go to see it actually like it??
YOU DO NOT WANT A BOMBSHELL ACTRESS for the role of Nancy and ruin her completely. That is not what Nancy is suppose to be. You want someone who is UNKNOWN, a great actress someone like Karle Warren. She would be the perfect choice for Nancy. She is 17 years old, the same age that Nancy is around. Nancy is suppose to be this cute, next door type girl. Karle has that look. She would be perfect in the role of Nancy.
Oh please, Kristen Stewart wouldn't even come close to a nightmare movie. She has twilight, u really think she would turned town the sequel of Twilight for this remake. plus she is really busy filming that
Actresses like Megan fox, not only that she is too old for the role. she is in her mid-20's i believe but she would ruin the character completely. She is too prom Queenish/super model. An Actress like Heather LangenKamp would be perfect cause she was a very cute girl who had the innocent virgin look. Karle Warren would be perfect for the role. CAST HER, she is kinda of an unknown. The original had unknowns in it; Johnny Depp, Heather Langenchamp. DO NOT GET SOMEONE WHO IS REALLY FAMOUS, NO NO NO.
hey there i would have ROBERT ENGLUND play as (EITHER)DR.KING from the dream clinic as a (inside joke) knowing dreams OR as the person that hires freddy at the powerplant as a PASSING OF THE TORCH.For HEATHER LANGENKAMP have her as the school teacher for the famous line DONT FORGET YOUR HALL PASS. if possible.Another idea is JOHN SAXON could also be DR.KING or Glen's DAD since he was Nancy's dad a (non believer)thinking nanacy is crazy.It is possible to add a few originals in the adult cast as NOD TO NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and new non famous original actors and actresses like the original had to start ANEW both sides on ELM STREET old and new woeld be a gift to ORIGINAL FANS and NEW FANS ALIKE
i am not karle warren. I am just a big fan of hers. She is cute and I have a HUGE CRUSH on her. I want her to go up and fight Freddy. I got my wish that Danielle Panabacker was in the Friday the 13th remake. I am just a very charming guy
So…MiaFan18, you say that Megan fox is too prom Queenish/super model, and too old, in her mid-20s. Ok, no problem. But remember this; Heather, Johnny, Amanda, and Ronee were all in their twenties in 1984. So give me something to agree on. And also, just curious, how old are you?
At the risk of hyperbole, Jackie Earle Haley is an astonishingly brilliant choice for the new Freddy. The two images at the top of the page suggest the potential for Haley as the character, much more somber and a valuable counterpoint to the Englund films which became increasingly ridiculous. The moment I saw him, it just felt right. Kudos, for the first time I'm excited about a remake.
they are in their 20's, they are too old. We need a Nancy that is between the age of 16-19. The same age that Heather was in the original. I believe Heather was 18 or 19 in 1984 while filming the original nightmare.
yea but Heather was a cute/attractive girl who had that innocent virgin look which Heather did.
I believe heather was 18 or 19 at the time. but my math is pretty bad lol.
Megan fox being in her 20's isn't the part I don't like, she is too prom queenish/super model type, which is something Nancy isn't
Nancy is your typical next door teenager, social who has her friends. She is a cute/attractive girl without going into "prom queen" type attractive. Nancy isn't suppose to be popular and if megan fox played her, all i will be thinkingis that she is the most popular girl in school. That is not what Nancy is. she is not suppose to be this REALLY HOT girl. She is suppose to be this sweet, really cute, attractive girl. Megan Fox would not be the best choice for Nancy. I PREFER THEM GETTING AN UNKNOWN ACTRESS FOR NANCY, KRISTEN, JESSIE or an actor who isn't well known and who hasn't starred in big movie before. Johnny Depp was an unknown around the time nightmare came out in 1984, so was Heather. I prefer an actress who has that cute, attractive innocent look like Heather did in the original. An actress around the age Nancy is, which is 16/17 years old. It be more realistic if a TEENAGER plays her instead of a 20 year old actress like they do on THE CW shows like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210.
I am 18 years old, I like Megan Fox but I just can't see her as Nancy. She is too beauty Queen for the role. You want an actress in the role of Nancy who is really cute, attractive, girl next door type.
Good casting so far. I hope that this movie gives kids nightmares like I experienced as a kid watching Robert. These are all very big shoes to fill and with good actors, good music, and a good director you have yourself very big box office hit. Probably, even more money then Friday the 13th.
Kristen, i don't know...someone who is really hot but yet really cute. I only want 1 ACTRESS for the role of Nancy and that is Karle Warren. She is perfect for the role. CHASE CRAWFORD WOULD BE PERFECT FOR JESSIE.
I think you guys should use the original Kruger design with the yellow and red sweater instead of the red and green. It would be new and different and also call SCOUT TAYLOR-COMPTON for a part. ANY PART! Even a victim role! MARGOT KIDDER for Nancy's mom, maybe... her or the mom from the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake.... But with F13 you guys said that the kids would be smarter and that didn't happen, yet again they were all looks and no brains. So let's keep the sex to an absolute minimum because sex is just fuckin' annoying in horror movies. CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SMART KIDS THIS TIME??? PLEASE!!!!
^^^noooo, she is awful on 90210. No CW Stars please. If anyone from the CW should play Nancy, it should be Sophia Bush(Brooke Davis, from ONE TREE HILL)
Petition to have Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. It is certain death for the movie to replace Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger as this is his role.
http://www.petitiononline.com/freddy9/petition.htm l
MiaFan18 Love to see the look on your face when another actress gets cast as nancy instead of Karle Warren.You are going to be upset that day because she is not going to be nancy.
We will see, I will bet my xbox 360, playstation 3, ipod touch that Karle Warren will be Nancy. I ether want Karle Warren, SOPHIA BUSH, Daveigh Chase, Danielle Panabacker or SHENAE GRIMES as Nancy
Karle Warren, SOPHIA BUSH, Daveigh Chase, Danielle Panabacker or SHENAE GRIMES are the best choices for Nancy. They are 100X better then Jessica Scoup or Michaelle Trachenberg. ewwww
I will literally boycott this film if Michaelle Trachenberg is cast as Nancy. OMG I can not picture her as Nancy, i cringe even thinking about it. If u must get a CW ACTRESS, get Sophia Bush(Brooke, One Tree Hill). At least she is an amazing actress and can have the Nancy look. She is beautiful but with the right make up and if she grew her hair longer and curled it more, she would have Nancy down. Sophia Bush would rock Nancy.
I wish jenna malone was younger she would be great.Really love to see you guys get michelle trachenberg for this film she was born to play nancy if not really like to see Lucy Hale in the part.
I dont like the idea of Michelle or Margo, Margo is a terrible actress and while Michelle is a good actress she has proven she is not well suited for big horror movie remakes. She is best in quirky indie dramas and tv series. She is best at playing the bitch.
Meanwhile, Karle Warren, is a great actress and should be Nancy
I completely agree, Karle Warren would be the perfect nancy. Karle Warren, Daveigh Chase, Danielle Panabacker would make the perfect Nancys but Karle is the best one for the role. Though I don't think Danielle Panabacker will be Nancy in the movie because she was in PD's Friday the 13th remake. Karle Warren has the nancy look. Please Cast her, i love her...love love her. She is really cute and adorable, which Nancy should be. Nancy is 16/17 years old and Karle is the perfect age. DON'T GET NOONE WHO IS IN THEIR 20'S.
Shenae Grimes can be Kristen, she does not have the Nancy look. Hell no to Jessica Stroup as Nancy, i do not want to see Michelle Trachtenberg near a nightmare movie, i can't stand her. The adorable and cute KARLE WARREN NEEDS TO BE NANCY OR I AM NOT SEEING THE MOVIE. KARLE WARREN NEEDS TO BE NANCY. I FLOVE HER. She has the nancy look, Karle is a very cute girl, who has that innocent look which Nancy should have. Oh no, Keep Hayden Panetteire away from this remake, she has too big of an ego. KEEP HER AWAY.
Shenae grimes has that partygirl look, she would be PERFECT as Kristen. But PLEASE CAST KARLE WARREN as Nancy, she would be perfect for the role. She is a very adorable cute girl, 17 years old i believe. She has that innocent virgin look which Nancy should have.
please don't cast noone who is really famous like Hayden Panettere ewwww. A nightmare movie should have unknowns like the original. Johnny Depp, Heather Langenkamp were unknowns during the original NMOES. Karle Warren would be perfect for the role. She is an unknown, 17 years old, the same age as Nancy.
Platinum Dune, if you were want to continue this great casting u have been with Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner. PLease cast an unknown actress for the role of Kristen and please cast KARLE WARREN AS NANCY. PLEASE, she is really adorable and cute, she has that innocent look that NANCY SHOULD HAVE. It would make me want to see this remake even more when it comes out in 2010.
Wow, MiaFan18...You have got to let the Karle Warren thing go. It's not going to happen. Neither may my suggestions, but you clearly know nothing of the industry. The roles are going to actors that command some kind of recognition from the public if the producers want to increase its box office potential.
I do not want someone who is recogition from the public ok. The original nightmare had unknowns like Johnny Depp and Heather Langenkamp. Yes Johnny Depp was an unknown back when the original nightmare was release. I would literally boycott this film if Hayden Panettere is in this film. She is a terrible actress, she is too well known, i can't stand her, she has a huge ego. Plus she won't even come close to a nightmare remake.
So boycott this film then MiaFan18, see if we care. But please just stop repeating so much in this blog. It's very sad and pathetic. You made your point, now move on to a different topic.
How old are you? 13? The reason the original had unknown actors was due to it's budget. Hayden Panettiere may have not shown herself the next Meryl Streep(yet), but she is more than competent actress.
I am 17 years old. I do not want Hayden Panettiere in this remake, she is too well-known. I do not like Hayden, she annoys me and is too "beauty queen" for Nancy, she is not a cute girl. You want a really cute girl to play nancy who has that innocent look. Having unknown actors worked for the original and it will work once again in the remake.
have u ever heard the saying "if it isn't broke, don't fix it".
and you really think Hayden would step near this remake with her ego.I think not, plus she is too expensive probably in this economy. If getting unknown actors worked for the original, it would work for the remake.
I love all, I say all of the ANOES films, but part 1 is and always will be my favorite horror movie of all time. But what made these films even more amazing were their posters and soundtracks, especially the posters from nightmares 1 through 5. They are simply amazing and totally breathtaking. So I’m really looking forward to the new poster and soundtrack.
I think Karle Warren would be great as Nancy, and Kirby Bliss Blanton for Kris.
and Brock Kelly for Jessie.
All great actors, all underexposed but attractive enough to command a box office and appeal to the younger audience. But also good enough actors they can carry the film.
Also noone knows who they will cast but hopefully they surprise us this time with actual good actors.
Danielle Panabaker, Jared Padalecki and The guy from She's the man are really the only talented actors they cast in the F13th reboot. Ok and Travis Van Winkle was good as well but still. Maybe they should actually listen to what we have to say instead of just saying they do. because that's much worse. it's one thing to just ignore the fans and do your own thing. But to say you will take into account something and then don't. Thats an issue.
NOT SAYING THEY ARENT just something to think about PD!!
Jackie Earle Haley is probably the only person, other than Robert Englund, that I could see playing the role of Freddy Kruger. Actually the moment I saw him in Watchmen without his mask on, I imediately saw him as Kruger in this remake, since they were looking for someone new for the role. I will go out on a limb and say that this will be just like how Jack Nicholson played the joker in the original Batman and then Heath Ledger came in and did an amazing job, even though everyone was doubting that he could fill Jack's shoes. I know that Heath didn't completely fill his shoes but he took the role and made it his own and his performance was great. I think this is exactly what Jackie Earle Hayle will do, he will take the role and make it his own and be awesome. I am thoroughly excited about this remake and I don't think it could be in more capable hands than Platinum Dunes, since I have enjoyed all of their remakes, not loved, but enjoyed them. Also, I recently saw Haunting in Connecticuit and I was impressed by Kyle Gallner's performance. I think he will do a fine job in the movie, and he is very capable of acting in a horror film (his were some of my favorite scenes in the Haunting in Connecticuit). Good Job on the casting and I look forward to seeing who else makes the cut. This remake is showing a lot of promise in my opinion and will likely be the best remake Platinum Dunes has taken on.
^^^don't make me throw up, i hate jessica stroup. She is anorexic. Yea nice disrespectful to a great character like Nancy wanting someone who is not healthy playing her. She would not be a fine Nancy, TRY TERRIBLE. Nancy isn't Anorexic
Im sorry but I AM NOT MIAFAN, nor do we have an affiliation lol.
seriously more than one person can have the same opinion!
Many people have stated michelle trachtenberg and u dont assume they are one and the same!
Plus im a boy.
You guuys have done a great job with freedy really would love to see kate mara for the nancy part.There have been some great suggestions also like margo harshman and davigh chase.
Hey Mr Fuller really look forward to the remake and wish Leighton Meister wasn't doing another movie she would be a nice nancy.Really would love to see you get jessica stroup in this movie or if you guys saw black christmas michelle trachenberg would do the part justice.
Either use Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger or leave this movie alone. Jackie Earle Haley is not Freddy that is Robert's role. There is no one besides Robert Englund that can do Freddy Krueger period.
My choices for Nancy will be:
Kristen Stewart
Daviegh Chase
Nina Dobroev
Spencer Locke
My Choices for Kris:
Hayden Panitere
Sheane Grimmes
Miram McDonald
I HOPE YOU CAN GET ELENA SATINE TO PLAY NANCY!!! SHE IS ABOUT TO BE HUUUGGEEE. I'D LOVE TO SEE HER IN THIS. ALTHOUGH I HEARD SHE PASSED ON F13 SO MAYBE SHE'S NOT INTO HORROR WHO KNOWS BUT THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!! SHE'S TOTALLY THE NEXT RACHEL MCADAMS!
Keep Michelle Trachenberg away from this nightmare remake. I will literally boycot the film if she is nancy. DON'T DO IT, she is ugly, she is too old for nancy. I can't stand her.
Great choice for Freddy! Why are some people wanting actors or actresses that have already been in either PD's movies....Sophia Bush(The Hitcher). PD is not gonna retread & use someone that has already been in one of their movies.
And all the whining about Robert England is useless. Yoo're not gonna change their mind by posting 50 million times. He's almost 62 years old....well past being able to do the role. It's even worse that all the Kane Hodder mancrush's.
They made a lousy choice for Freddy, Jackie Earle Haley is no Robert Englund, Robert Englund is Freddy.
Petition for Robert Englund:
I don't mean to be a douche and don't want to fault you for dreaming big, but do you really think someone who has the career momentum going that Mia Wasikowska has would get sucked into this?
Hello,
I’m going to introduce myself because this is aimed at Brad, not really anyone else, if he reads it, as he states he does, then great – hello. I’ve been a fan of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ since I was thirteen, it got me through some extremely difficult times, and not because of Fred Krueger – I despised Freddy, as one was supposed to as an audience member, he became an anti-hero many sequels later. I identified with Nancy’s (Heather Langenkamp) plight. Please, let’s not forget that the original film is all about the INNOCENT teenagers and their parents, not only a killer, brutally murdering people. I hope, as with your “re-imagining” of ‘Friday the 13th’ you leave these original precious characters alone. You’ve taken Freddy Krueger – have him! But I really don’t want to see your vision of Nancy, Tina, Rod or Glen. Kyle Gallner is a very good actor, and judging from his character name, Quentin, I’m hoping he has nothing to do with the character of Glen Lantz, and is his own, original character. I just hope you realise how much these characters mean to people, FANS, I know that this is a business, and you’re making money from it – but please keep this in mind.
You’ve stated that no critics write for free, well I am a published writer, but I still take out time to write for free online magazines, because I believe that people should hear all different opinions, some for free – not bought. As a huge horror fan, Editor and writer, I would love to see how you justify re-making all these films? A true horror fan, such as myself, would never dream of touching a classic like ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ – there’s nothing to improve on. With most of your films, you (and your cronies) haven’t improved on anything, mostly you’ve just increased the blood and gore and sex – this, a good horror film, does not make. A fan of something doesn’t want to change it, they react, like a lot of fans have on this, and many, many other forums, and are upset, angry and outraged. I reviewed your version of ‘Friday the 13th’, and apart from a few actors, I thought the film was terrible. It might have made a lot of money, but I don’t think you’re taking into consideration the changes of prices of cinema tickets etc. That, and obviously, your greatest trick of getting ppl in seats - curiosity. Your version of ‘F13th’ is why I’m so worried, as I am sure are many others about ‘ANOES’, after all, the film was filled with stereotypes of teenagers that died out with the dinosaurs. How many more road movies with teens looking for weed do we have to witness from you? Why did every single girl bar one have to get her breasts out and act like a complete whore? Not to mention the hundreds of plot holes. These weren’t in the original, these don’t make a scary horror film, they make a comedy that appeals to horny young teenage boys. I heard more laughter in the cinema than screams of fear.
Why not make original movies??? What about all the writers out there with original horror material, characters, plots, movies?? Or is it simply JUST to make money, something which you deny, and yet nothing you’ve done has proved to anyone that you’re a horror fan. Quite the opposite, you’re simply raping classic horror movies, taking what you want and churning out another sequel, which was, lets face it, what your ‘F:13th’ was. At least be honest about it. Any famous horror writer or director has wanted to make their own stories and characters come to life, even the re-makes of ‘The Thing’ and ‘The Fly’ are drastically different to the originals, something you can’t claim with ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ or a few others. Your movies are either direct rip-off’s or cheap sequels, with a few exceptions. Credit where credits due, your take on ‘TCM’ was superb – where is that passion for fear and creativity in the horror genre gone now? I would love to speak to you about these matters, and have tried to contact you and your company and talk to anyone about these things many times, but it seems like you don’t want to be asked the questions die-hard horror fans are asking, and begging you to answer. If you do want to discuss it – I’m sure we can arrange something. My mind isn’t closed, but it’s getting their fast, as you churn out re-make after re-make. ‘ANOES’ was the last straw for me, and I had to express to you how I felt – hopefully, you or your ppl will read this. I don’t think I’ve said anything unfair, I’ve simply raised some issues which you obviously know are there, as you mention the anger of the horror fan. Surely, you’ll know this feeling if you are one.
NANCY AS A GOTH!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? WHY? Why on earth does she have to be a goth? If you must use the character's name - she's suppossed to be the all American girl next door - it's ten years too late to be a Goth! Plus it isolates the audience from her character - do you know anything? This is just getting worse and worse - why can't you just leave her name out of it? Even stealing the bath shot - I really, really hope this is the movie that back-lashes on you HARD!
How about a petition with over 1,000 signatures in it. Do not replace Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, and Nancy as a goth would indeed be stupid.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nonewnightm are/signatures.html
The characters of Nancy, Tina and Glen were all 15, and Heather Langenkamp was 18 at the time of filming, Amanda Wyss was 16 at the time of filming and I believe Johnny Depp was 17 - these were all very young actors - this film is going to be terrible anyway. I just saw the script outline. I cannot believe it, although I can. I'm disgusted with this company, they're a disgrace to horror!
Then don't bother with their movies. For the record Amanda Wyss was 24. Heather Langenkamp was 19 going on 20. Johnny Depp was 21. Nick Corri was 21, as well. And if I'm not mistaken, the only time a characters age is mentioned in the film is during the news report of Tina's death. I believe the reporter stated she was 16.
Yes, they were in their twenties like I said before. So Caseybecker, you stated your point, now leave. So if they're a disgrace to horror, why do you continue to watch their films? And seriously myers23, a petition? give me a break.
Myers23 - I know about the petition, you don't think either of them will do any good now though do you? :( I do think we should stay around though, I wanna see if any of these "creative ppl" reply - although I highly doubt it, don't you?
I'm not talking to any of the rest of you - this isn't directed at you, so please stop addressing me, although I will state FTR Tina is 15 on the news report, and seen as they're all in the same yr apart from Rod - work it out gaybaby, and Heather was 18 during filming as stated by her. And seen as Amanda is three years younger - you work that out too, I don't care what you've read...
And oh my God! Gaybaby, I never realised I could pretend the re-make never existed, aren't you full of revelations! It's the principle!
BTW Michelle Trachenberg is a fugly little skat.
Ok I am sick and tired of people bashing about Nancy being a goth. I don't see what's wrong with that. It will hopefully give the character the edge that she needs. So why won't you guys accept the script like it is.
Ok, Ok most of you won't agree with me with this. But I think it's cool. if my opinion dosen't matter, ok. But I just think it's cool to have Nancy as the loner goth girl with personally of course.
Goth's dress like that to set themselves apart from the rest of society, so therefore, the character doing so, is then isolating herself from most of the audience. Nancy had enough personality without having to dress as a Goth. It's just a lame idea to try and bring something new, which Rob Zombie did in his terrible version of Halloween. Nancy isnt Laurie Strode, she's suppossed to be the normal girl next door. Besides, who dresses as a Goth these days? It's done - ten years ago. If anything she should be EMO - which is just as pathetic. It adds nothing to a person's personality, and takes nothing away - if you know the person. But an audience will judge the character on their appearence primarily, and then distance themselves from her when they should be wanting her to win and backing her.
Goth is a style. And would you want a character like Nancy to be the girl-next door type but with style. I mean for instance, I would hate to see nancy turned to one of those teeny-boppers girls with fake hair extensions. Of course if you'll read the script, kris will be that type of character. But on the other side Nancy is real teenage girl with real problems. As it said in the script, she has problems fitting in, like most of do. I mean think back how it was in high school. It's very much like that.
the petition may or may not do any good, you never know, but still I don't like the idea of a some one portraying Freddy Krueger. As for Nancy being goth, what the heck is up with that? If I recall right there was not a single goth character in the original Nightmare on Elm Street. They are ruining this movie.
Miriam Macdonald is a lousy actress and looks like a bitch lol. so no pass on her pls! lol
Nina Dobrev has apparently been cast in some role. nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com has put it up. I hope this is a scary rumor.
Another unnecessary remake from people who call themselves true horror fans but if they really were wouldn't they be trying to push boundaries instead of rehashing the same old shit? Ok, they might like horror a bit but they sure do LOVE EASY MONEY coming from well established franchises. Laughing all the way to the bank. Where have gone TRUE horror filmmakers? We don't want copycats.
Rumor is false she's not in this movie.I emailed the moderator of that nightmare on elm street the guy got his info from a guy on a messageboard.http://www.themovieblog.com/2009/03/nightmare- on-elm-street-reboot-begins-filming-soon
There are so many posts on here, I doubt you might read this...but, on the off chance you might just read my post then I wanted to first say that this pick for Freddy is a PERFECT choice. I had the privelige to watch "Watchmen" and saw how Jackie was able to fully embody his character and made his values and what he saw of the world seem real and not just words in a script. Jackie brings that to the table for you. I consider his character acting a very, VERY good thing for you. It was a make or break and you made.
Second, I wanted to reiterate what a poster had said up towards the top that a high bodycount does not make "good horror". It's not the blood and guts. I have mentioned on a previous post of yours that "Hostel" went for the blood and guts but it lost it's impact after the first couple death scenes. For true horror you need that feeling of dread, dispare, the feeling that even the audience will feel like whatever is in the shadows will come for them and not just the actors walking about on screen. It's that emotional pull you put your characters through and the audience following them and caring about the characters is what makes true horror when thengs go wrong and turn to dark and sinister places.
I also wanted to stress that this isn't a slasher film so my post on the bodycount kind of adds to this. It's not just a masked killer running around slicing up little kids. Freddy used to do that but his evil and demented soul lurks in kids dreams, a place that has no limits to the imagination, and there he can be anything and everything which makes the dread, dispare, and torment of not knowing what's going on and who (or what) is chasing you that much more impactful. If you keep this all in mind then I can't see a reason horror shouldn't be taken more seriously. You're on the right path and your heart is in the dark place it should be to make good...no, GREAT horror. Blood and violence can make a great impact at the right times but can't be relied on to carry an entire film. That's what the actors are for. Just words for thought. If you do read this than thank you for the great movies so far and I'll be waiting in antisipation for this one.
This script is a laughing stock, hopefully enough ppl will see how bad the movie is going to be and boycott it. It doesn't sound like any of these individuals want to create anything interesting for the fans or give any respect to the actors who made the original movie. They just want to regurgitate other ppl's original material and then do a cheap, lame version just for money it seems, and the only way to stop them is to boycott their films. Everyone I spoke to despised that 'Friday the 13th' - it was everything it shouldn't have been, it was cheap, camp, crap - it wasn't scary - it was funny. The only good movie these ppl have made is TCM re-make and then they cocked it up with the prequal. They have no idea, Nancy WAS the girl next door. The girl every other girl could relate to - she wasn't a goth, or a loner, she was sociable - she had friends. She's dating a jock and is friends with a popular girl for gods sake! Why does horror from these ppl have to go hand in hand with rock music and images like these? They shouldn't even be including Nancy's character, if they want a new slate as they keep repeating - then why are they using her name? Why are they using the infamous scene where freddys glove comes up in the bath? What happened to a "re-imagining", a nice word for a rip off! Leave the characters alone, have a goth and give her another name. You can't include one character without including them all. And the characters in all these movies were the popular, RICH kids in Elm St - sorry. They weren't outcast's. I'm glad they're doing their lame script - let it be shit like most of their other movies. I'm sure everyone will still go and see it and then bitch about how bad it is, as most true horror fans have done with most of platinum dungs movies. .....Here's an idea - why don't YOU WRITE SOME ORIGINAL MATERIAL??????????????????? INVENT SOME ORIGINAL CHARACTERS AND VILLAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why should our new generation have to watch your crappy versions of classics when they should have their own, original horror movies. Try looking at movies like SCREAM and SAW - ORIGINAL!!!!!! Does that word commute????????
Agreed, I thought the script was a blatant display of generic, formulaic, misunderstanding of the franchise and the horror genre in general. It virtually dumbs down the franchise and makes no attempt at refining, improving or doing anything even remotely fresh with it. They could really take some cues from foreign horror lately. At least they are doing smarter horror.
There's always the excuse that the script is an early draft, but I'd rather hear that it wasn't the actual script considering there's not much they can do to improve it short of a rewrite.
MYERS23 - Everyone I know, Including myself, signed both the petitions against the re-make of this film, I think they've gone FAR AND BEYOND by shocking everyone with this one - as 'A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST 84' - as it's now sadly going to have to be fricking caled, is a complete and utter CLASSIC. It's like PSYCHO. You only have to see all the names on that petition, you didn't have them against the other re-makes. A lot of people are furious about this "re-imagining" rubbish. Boycott! I will certainly be one individual, and true fan of the original film, doing so - after I review it (with an open mind - I might add, as I have done wth every other of their movies - but they just don't deliver. It's not just about robert, although this new actor looks like him and seems to be around the same age. Lets not forget that the main story was about the development of the teenagers and their friendships. Several of us will be actively protesting against this film, hopefully many ppl will join us outside cinemas, online and in general, making ppl aware of exactly just what this company is doing! I think we should start a petition to protest outside cinemas about this movie - its the only way to get ppl to listen. Get on the news channels, get to the public - there are a few brown-nosers who will say the movies great no matter what cos they see a link to power. The critics are mostly against PD anyway (and with good reasons) - I know many ppl in the industry who despise this sort of stealing. I WOULD LOVE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH ANYONE FROM PLATINUM DUNES - WHY DONT THEY RESPOND? OR CAN'T THEY ANSWER???? It's also been said many times that 'Bloody Disgusting' are on the payroll from the company - it seems odd how they always get the exclusives and news, and are always so excited about these films, when every other horror critic is not.
RAGEOFTHESTREETS - Exactly, it's too late now anyway - they've given a release date. It won't have many changes, but let it stink, it just shows ppl constantly to go back and see the originals. Re-makes by their name are inferior films, and with scripts like these being offered their less than that.
I'm not against remakes in general, but seriously, after the last decade, filmmakers really need to start taking responsibility for doing mediocre attempts instead of making excuses for it.
Well the script isn't all that bad, and hopefully they'll change some scenes. So it's not really such a big deal to me. I mean yes they should stop making remakes it's getting pretty old. They already ruined the friday the 13th movie, one of my favorite movie franchise. But all I have to do, is sit and wait for this to happen. the question is...will I be disappointed or happy.
I havn't read any script - I would appreciate anyone posting where you can read it though. What I'm going on -is what was posted on this site about the script - and it sounds terrible. I don't want to go and see this movie - the classic, cult horror 'A Nightmare on Elm St' was made in 1984 - and still holds up just as good today, it doesn't need a re-make. I review movies, and am tired of seeing re-makes of classics by THIS company over and over, and not only that - they are DESTROYING the memory of these films for some new audiences. (Although everyone I know, knows exactly who Krueger is - even 12 yr old kids have watched the original movies cos they're so famous) I'm just glad that most ppl know who Freddy Krueger and Nancy Thompson are. I have to go and see this film, and I'm sure it will be as bad as the rest, and hearing the script sample, just confirmed everyones fears...... I don't understand you - you claim the original is your favorite film! Why would you want a re-make? And why would you want a re-make from this company of all people? They are ruining the horror genre by confirming what ppl hate about it. They make it all about sex, drugs and blood and guts. If you love the original, you'll know that Nightmare stood for SO much more than that. It had a strong story line and was scary, something these guys seem uncapable of doing. I honestly would rather see a sequel, than the characters I love get the platinum dunes treatment. I think they should take on board fans views on the matter, because they're obviously too close to the projects and cant see the huge damage they're doing to the genre. Why isn't there a Nightmare on Elm st expert panel going through this movie with them? Not just yes ppl, fans - who won't put up with rubbish. It's usually only sad teenagers who go to see their movies and want to laugh at someone being killed, as they did in F13th, but in Nightmare - the audience is meant to care about the characters. It's not about Freddy that much in the original. Even in the original Friday the 13th the characters had more depth than in their re-make. Alice was a nice character, so was Bill, their characters were developed to an extent. PD's re-make treated every character as an awful stereotype - every single girl was a slut. Every guy, bar one, was obsessed with drugs. And Jason came across as a hick drug supplier who didn't want ppl stealing his dope. And why he would kidnap a girl who looked like his mother when she was young (and he didn't even know her) someone please explain - it was a useless attempt at trying to give the film an iota of depth. This is what they'll do with 'Nightmare' - but its worse, because 'Nightmare' is a highly respected genre film. Fans of the original wouldn't want this company going near their favorite horror because of their current history with horror films. Sure we still have the original, but we also have morons going around thinking this is an original film.
jonmcneail Agree 100 percent on the friday the 13th remake I actually walked out it didn't feel like a friday the 13th movie to me.I have not read the script for this movie and honestly just waiting for casting to make a decision.
do not make nancy a goth. she is a NICE girl, girl next door type, with a generally healthy social life. do not have the kids playing guitar hero. doesn't sound like there's much imagination in this so-called 're-imagining'. how can anyone be excited about this, even with jackie earl haley, with such shit for a script? i mean, really. but you guys failed as soon as you shunned robert englund. yeah, i said it again. the fans didn't want a new freddy-even if the new guy is an oscar winning former bad news bear. but when has PD ever REAAAALY cared what fans think? PD just looking out for the fanboys that swallow whatever they're being fed.
brooklynpsycho, people have read the script because the last ten years...and PD's track record...have proved that there's no reason to have blind faith in any of their final products. This is just common sense.
There is no one who knows the hatred and distain of horror fans better than I do. - Brad Fuller
Of course, Brad, that's because you make CRAPPY HORROR FILMS and people are tired of watching you RUIN GREAT MOVIES. We wouldn't hate you if you actually made great films and put your heart in it. As it is, I think WE ARE RIGHT to despise your movies because they are BORING, GENERIC FILMAKING DEVOID OF ANY TRUE ORIGINALITY.
Hey Brad, Whats up? DJ Krueger here one of the all time biggest fans of the ANOES franchize.
Im not here to whine. I just wanted to express how disappointed I am in the whole thought of this project.
I mean it just really breaks my heart to let the original Freddy Krueger go. I understand that you guys are interested in bringing Freddy's character back.
But this definitely just wont be the same, which is what you want but..
You've heard it before and its the truth..
it just isnt Freddy unless its Robert Englund.
The role just belongs to him, no one can play it, not even the greatest actor in the world can play it like him..
BIG DEAL Jackie Earl Haley is gonna reprise the roll..
OH BUT! BUT! BUT!!!!
He was nominated for an academy award!!
Yes, but tell me something..
Was that for the roll of the face of horror, Freddy Krueger?
No.
Freddy is more than just a character. Hes an ICON..
And Englund is more apart of that his phenomenon than ANYTHING.
Freddy means something to us.
Like James Earl Jones is to the voice of Darth Vader..
Stallone to Rocky
Clint Eastwood to Dirty Harry .
Man Thats even like YELLOW is to big BIG BIRD..
Honestly, I know this comment wont really make a difference, because even if you really do read this..
You're smiling as its being read..
I just cant handle how could you do this to us??
We're the fans! Doesnt what we want make the most difference?
We're the people who pay to see what you's do..and
From the start we told you not to do this.
I could totally understand if you guys just wrapped up the originals, with one more sequel.
That would've been great.
Because that way you'd be being loyal to the fans and pleasing everyone.
Then you could do your remake or w/e for the new generation.
But why couldnt we see how it ends? Just have one final sequel to
Freddy Vs. Jason, first? FINALIZE THEM.
I mean this may sound pretty cheesy, but..these movies are a part of me.
And Im not the only one.
I grew up a die hard Elm street fan!
Heather Langenkamps son and me even went to elementary school together!
Im not really entirely against this remake..
Im really just against the fact that you's left the originals open for a sequel..
and cheated us out of it with a comic book..
I mean EVEN a cartoon with Robert Englund would've been cool.
Because he does alot of cartoons now.
BUT A 4.00 COMIC BOOK!?!
WHICH WE HAVE TO WAIT 5 MONTHS TO FINISH?!
LIKE WHAT THE HELL! HOW DARE YOU!!
Its like..Bob Shaye is gone..
So New Line is pretty well..dead, and doing this to this movie is PROOF..
Shaye LOVED Elm Street and he understood how we felt about these movies..
And he wouldnt of let this happen..
I think I can say that I've totally lost hope in the rebuilt New Line and in Platinum Dunes ever reviving the original Elm Street franchize..
Like Robert Englund said on the "Boogey Men" Commentary..
"GIVE US OUR SEQUEL! OR GIVE US DEATH"
No matter what..
He'll always be the real Freddy..
And you just cant kill the love we got for him..
R.I.P. Freddy Krueger..
Pz
OH and btw..if you REALLY read EVERYTHING..
Mention one minor thing I said in this comment within your next post to prove it..
Atleast that'll give proof that we're not wasting our time on here, and that you really do read EVERYTHING and that you LOVE for Elm Street, like you claim..
Im out..pz
Kruegersdomain - everything you just said is right. New Line are complete sell outs, lets not forget New Line Cinema is the house Freddy built - their words! Freddy being Robert Englund. Bob Shaye would never have let this happen, right again, but he did something that meant he doesn't have a say on the matter. Where is WES CRAVEN in all of this? He's been verbal about all the sequels and his dislike for most of them, it's common sense that he wouldn't want a re-make. I read an interview on here, where he says he has no choice about being involved in this film. The film he wrote and directed - his property..... Platinum Dunes are not reading what we're writing, they don't give a shit about the fans - they couldn't care less about the genre. All they want is money, and they know this is THE biggest horror franchise out there, and Platinum Dung are going to ruin it, as they have done with most of their crappy "re-imagining's".....In the re-make why don't you have the kids singing a jump rope song about Platinum Dunes coming for your favorite horror movie and shitting all over it????? Because that's WAY more scary. NEW LINE should just re-release the original if they're SO desperate for money. I don't think these "people" realise how much this movie and the characters mean to people - but if they do read any of this they should be learning. But you'd think they'd know after their past awful attempts at horror. Yes, we still have the originals and yes we'll keep watching them - but your tainting the nightmare franchise with your shitty re-make. Why do you have to call it the same thing as well? At least Rob Zombie named his crap re-make after himself - why don't you do the same thing????? Platinum Dunes Nightmare on Elm St. Because then, everyone will know they wont want to see it. I've lost all respect for New Line Cinema for working with ppl like you. You're not a fan of this genre, so STOP LYING! You just wanna rake in the money. Where's your responce to the fans? You havn't posted one darn thing, you never answer straight questions in your interviews either, like why are you you re-making classic horror after classic horror? What's the point, other than money? Do you have any original material? If so, why aren't you f'ing working on that? I hope this movie crashes and burns - the script is an insult to all the fans. Although I'm a fan of Heather and the actual original movie primarily, I have to agree that Robert IS Freddy. That's it! Plain and simple - everyone knows that fact. But if you are going to re-imagine something - why are you stealing things from the original? Why not have Kruger looking differently, as Robert suggested? Why include Nancy's name? Why include the shot in the tub with the claw? (although I'm sure in your version the girl will have her false breasts out for everyone to see) - the reason you're taking these iconic scenes and imagery is because you don't have any original material, and you want to steal great scenes. Who on earth commisioned this script? WHY ARE PPL GOING TO SEE THIS COMPANY'S FILMS? Surely now, after all the bad movies, people must be catching on. Everyone walks out of the cinema saying how bad their movies are. The only way to stop these guys is to BOYCOTT THE MOVIE! Don't go and see it out of curiousity, leave it alone. It's the only way to stop them. They're SIMPLY a re-make horror company. They're pointless.
We cant change it?..
Anything is possible.
By writing these comments that our pal "Brad" claims to be reading, we can make a difference and an impact on the film. So he and his crew wont do any more of these movies and make SMART decisions and either revive the original franchize or LEAVE THESE MOVIES ALONE..
Robert was asked recently if he would've have played Freddy again..and he simply said..that he NO CHOICE..
So dont lie to us anymore and try to shut us up..This is the modern age..and this is the internet..
WE WONT STOP TIL WE GET WHAT WE WANT!
People..DONT TURN SOUR AND BE ALL FOR THIS FILM ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAUSE AN ACTOR WHOM WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND IN THE LAST 10 YEARS JUST BOOMED ON TO THE SCENE ALL OF A SUDDEN AND HAS SIGNED ON..
Nightmare is not to be messed with, and neither are we..
THE FANS!
rosemarysgaybaby: simpletons? Seriously? What would be a better waste of energy? Whining about people you disagree with? Then again, if you were on PD's payroll it might feel perfectly legit for you to spend so much time defending them and coming up with as many excuses as you do to be as unsympathetic to horror fans as possible.
Have you really heard me offer up anything pro this remake. No. I just realize deals have been done, contracts signed, money exchanged, talent hired. I'm not 100% against the remake, but I wish they were handling it differently in this context. I consider the original a near perffect film and that if it must be relaunched, rebootes, remade that it be faithful and only update the movie to 2009 and take advantage of our current technology. I realize that Englund is in his 60's and that is why he is not returning. Freddy is not geriatric.Plus it's an update.
I'm 100% against Nancy being goth/emo. I could handle a little edgier. I hate the idea of podcasts and Guitar Hero. I don't want a new story and characters. I want a spruced up 2010 version of Wes Craven's classic. I know that it would never top the original, but I'd like to see it try. I didn't mind that Friday the 13th was rebooted. I had to see it a couple of time to really form an opinion. My first viewing was 100% positive. I LOVED IT! Not so much the second time. I loved that they took series that was known for boobs and gore, weak storylines and tried to improve it. My issue was with the Shannon and Swift. I felt the film still needed more characterization and that by focusing on making to 13 kills, something was lost in character development. I'm curious to see the dvd and alternate storyline(maybe the better film is there). Still, I thought the film was flawed, but pretty well done. There were good performances by the five leads. It was ambitious and that's what I liked most about it- taking something tried and true and making it better. I wish they'd look elsewhere for the sequel. The boys have some great ideas which can be seen here and in FvsJ., but they need to be rewritten. Anyway, I digress. I have faith in Platinum Dunes, Fuller, Bay, Form, Bayer. I know they have the potential to produce a great film. I can't think of anyone better than Haley for Freddy. Pardon my suggestions for the rest of the cast if you don't like them. Just realize this is show BUSINESS. Deals are done and there's no going back. Let's just wish them the best and hope. P.S. I'd give my left testicle to work for Platinum Dunes.
We'll keep on and on and on - because when something is wrong that's what people do. They protest against it - they don't just say nothing and put up with it, unless they're a moron, like you. If you think the originals a near perfect film, why would you want a re-make? Nothing is pointless until this company stops what it is doing, what stands for!! Crap re-makes. The only thing that is pointless is this company. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were employed by them. Robert Englund is not a geriatric, and what little respect you have for ppl to call them that, especially a guy with so much talent. Craven originally wrote the part for an old man, and this new actor looks exactly the same age as Robert Englund. NO ONE WANT'S AN UPDATE - that's what everyone here, or most ppl here, and in general are trying to get across to these people. At least we're saying something - standing up for something we believe in. You're just sat at your computer watching us - that makes you the simpleton. If anyone from Platinum reads this, they'll see how many people are against it - they'll see that thousands of people have signed petitions against it, actors who might be offered the roles will be wary about taking them on because of the back-lash that might occur to their careers. An actor would have to be desperate or stupid to star in this film. It's like when they re-made Psycho - it affected those actors careers. PLUS, NO REAL FAN WANTS THIS - SO YOUR OBVIOUSLY NOT ONE. We're simply letting them know Platinum Dunes the facts, they said their reading this - LET THEM READ IT.... I think this web link should be attached to some of the petitions, so more people can join and voice their opinions against this movie being re-made. Unless gaybaby has something constructive to say - let the grown ups talk!
You enjoyed Friday the 13th by these guys???? You just showed your type of taste. None. The film was awful, it had so many flaws I can't list them here now because I'd get bored. Some of them were the fact that the characters - every one of them, had no character, or very little character development. The women were portrayed as complete sluts that got their breasts out for a kind look, and Jason was a complete joke I feel sorry for Mears who is a nice guy and was in such an awful movie. It was worse than Jason takes Manhatten, because it was supposed to be an intelligent "re-imagining" - all it turned out to be was a pile of crap. Name anything good about that movie? Why do you have faith in Platinum Dunes? They havn't made one good movie since their first re-make of TCM, and that completley missed the point of the original. You've just stated yourself only a few problems with the script, and we havn't even read the entire thing!!!! I don't understand ppl like you? Why are you brown-nosing around a company which doesn't give a shit what you or any fan of the genre thinks?
Wow, CaseyBecker...I thought I may have appeased you some. Guess not. Where to start...I most think you're entitled to have an opinion and express it. Hell, you have some really valid point at times and I respect that. I, on the other hand, am allowed to have a opinion as well. There were probably equal parts pro and con when this dialogue opened. You may have noticed that those who have been posted in this forum has changed from the beginning. There a just a few of us left. Mostly, the group of you who do not want this movie made. I am a fan of the original and I want to see what these boys can do with this one(whether they fail or succeed). I want the reboot to see who Freddy is in someone else's hands. Robert has said in print, online, and film that he is too old to play Freddy as he once did. He has expressed an interest cameoing the new version, a sort of passing of the torch. Not exactly the sounds of a bitter man. I never said Mr. Englund wasn't talented. I've been a fan of his since 'V'.I would certainly not call Mr. Haley hard up. He followed an oscar nomination for his film comeback, with the Watchmen. His next film is for Scorcese. Everyone involved with remake of Psycho knew they were taking a risk in doing a shot by shot remake. No ones career was damaged. Vaughn and Mortensen got bigger. Moore continued on as the acclaimed actress that she was. Van Sant kept on making small indies. The only peerson who had issues around this time was Heche. That had to do with her relationship witr DeGeneres, drugs and mental illness. It will be up to the public to speak at the box office as to whether they want this or not as the film is weeks from shooting. Yes, I was entertained by Friday the 13th. I thought it was a decent attempt at trying to make something better for a new generation. I don't know how old you are but the originals of these series represent my growth from child to adult. These movies will always have a special place in my heart. The film was basically an Valentine to the originals: including big, breasted slutty, potheads, nerds, heroes with hearts of gold. The originals were based on stereotypes. I thought the movie was well acted for a horror film. T
The film took better, kills, characters, settings and tried to make them better. Sometimes they succeeded sometimes they didn't. I agree with you. TCM has so far been they most successful film creatively. I believe a lot of that was Scott Kosar's script. To me, there has been enough in all of their films that justifies being made. Yes, I'd like to see more original work. I'm sure people had reactions like the two of us, the first times Dracula and Frankenstein were recast or remade. Anyway, I'm just being a realist. The difference is that I accept this film is in production. Decisions and deals have been made. You may get some minor rewrites to certain aspects of the film to make you happy or casting you approve of. The other thing that everyone seems to be ignoring is that the script review from latinoreview was never confirmed as official or draft number, etc. Other than the production of the film itself, you and I both may have been complaining about things that may never make the final film. I've said my piece.
guys again. don't make a big deal about nancy being goth. She's probobally just a normal teenage girl who just dress in black clothes. Maybe it's just in the script that she's refrenced as a goth. And like the script said, she's not the type of girll that is keen on the pretty girl image.
There's really no point in arguing this case or the other. We seem to agree on a lot of the most important aspects. Although, I didn't see anything new or even a kind homage in the 'Friday the 13th remake" it was more like another sequel and I think they should have been straight up honest about that. The original doesn't have everyone doing drugs and every single girl getting her boobs out. Only one character did, with the matching of Kevin Bacon's ass (the remake was so mysogynistic it seemed to be moving backwards in time). It was interesting because the special effects were inovative and the killings nasty first time. The remake was so poor, no worse than the sequels I agree, but much worse than the original. My main problem is this movie (Nightmare) means so much to me, and I really don't think you can compare Dracula etc. They're based on novels, Michael Myers etc all wear masks - Freddy stands alone as the only actor to create a horror icon to the magnitute he has attained with only a thin layer of make-up. I for one wouldn't mind seeing a sequel without Robert in it. I know he didn't want anything to do with another movie, although having met him, I find that very hard to believe, as the guy IS Freddy more than Robert it seems. I'm just so sick and tired of these re-makes. I know they're going to do it no matter what, but I need to vent my frustration and anger about a film I love, and have loved for most of my life being tainted by a re-make. Because then, you find yourself explaining to ppl, that no, - this isn't an original film, it's based on a much better one. As I found myself doing recently with 'The Omen.' I have a magor issue with them taking the titles and passing them off as original films. Why not Friday the 13th 2009 or Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th, it's much more fair. Texas was a good re-make, they brought something completley different and genuinly scary to the table, but other than that ONE movie, think of all the others...they've all been really bad. I work in the horror industry, it's giving the horror genre bad credibillity. There is SO much talent out there, so many writers with great stories and scripts not getting a chance, because Hollywood is SO greedy, they only take chances on re-maks these days. I'm actually tired of being angry with these people, because their movie will probably come out, suck compared to the original, get forgotten, and then the original will still be remembered. You must see the principle's behind these thing's though? And if they want to re-imagine a film, which they insist on saying - why include Nancy? In the original, she's the driving force behind the whole film, it's mostly about her. Let them have Freddy, I'm livid that they're using the character of Nancy too. I know, they're going to make it - but apparently they want our views, my one view is take Nancy out. Create a new character, especially if they're not including Tina, Rod and Glen. It makes no sense.
Yeah, come to think of it... WTF, why keep Nancy? Especially if they´re not even being loyal to the original character. Would Jackie Earle Haley really sign on with such a sucky, lame ass script? Clarify things Bradley... is this script 4 real? Guitar Hero??? ZOMG. Freddy´s Dead is lookin like a masterpiece right bout now!
If they want constructive criticisim, then leave the name Nancy out of the movie. It takes away from the whole "re-imagining", and so does any reference to the original film. If you want to do something new, then do something new.
I believe that if Robert Englund is open to the idea of a cameo appearance, that he should play the Freddy role before his death... i think it would give a whole lot of credibility to the movie to have him be the original "alive" Freddy that we all know and love. If he is going to be in the movie in any capacity, I feel that this is the only way that it will work, and make sense easily. It would be confusing to see another man on trial, playing with children, and being killed, than in the next scene, here is Robert Englund in normal clothing and makeup playing a counselor in a high school. What does everyone else think?????
Good points, Caseybecker. I agree on the "PD's F13" title. It's beyond me why anyone considers that reboot worthy of praise considering it's moreso a remake of Part 4, minus what was good about Part 4, with characters moreso obnoxious, unlikable and annoying as FvJ. I also think they should remove the "Nancy" name from the character for this reboot. Obviously, it's only in there because they think fans will forgive the rest of the abominable script for one homage.
in the article here where is says that is should come has no surprise that Jackie Earle Haley has been cast as Freddy Krueger, what it should really say is that is comes as a huge blow to the fans of A Nightmare on Elm Street that Robert Englund has been kicked to the curb and replaced as Freddy Krueger by wannabe Jackie Earle Haley.
well, I was holding out hope for this movie...until now. the only thing I really cared about was keeping Robert Englund. So now not I or anyone I know will be going to see this peice of crap movie. way to go.
Jon I'm not rosemarygaybaby but I like your choices I hope brad fuller does look at those 2 for the part.I wasn't to keen on michelle trachenberg but actually wouldn't mind her playing the part.
Myers23, how has Robert Englund been "kicked to the curb"? He has already been in 7 of these films. And how is Jackie Earle Haley a wannabe? What you said dosen't make any sense.
Also, Jackie Earle Haley won't be the joking around Freddy that Englund was in the sequels. He will be more like Freddy was in the first; scary. In the first Nightmare, Freddy wasn't the wise cracking killer he was in the sequels. If someone besides Englund played Freddy in the first, you would barely be able to notice. Not trying to dis Robert Englund, by the way.
Well were do i start here <_< - >_> well i got to say, for platinum dunes, for there dedicated work for ANOES franchise to be fresh,and i couldn't blame them, i'm sure with the right hands i suppose they can make this work, but there is a few little things i want to get off my chest, now i'm no doubt...like the rest of you, a BIG Freddy fan, and i consider this installment, i want to put this on record *REBOOT* i quote this is not a remake. theres is a difference between this, which i will not discuss on here. anyway i would like to say, good on ya, i want to see freddy back on form, and i noticed that JEH is Our New Freddy...suprising, to be honest as a cirtic on this matter, everyone will always remember Robert Englund as freddy, this will go down years, and no matter what anyone says, its because yes i know Robert didn't want to play as His Alter Ego as i say, and give it to someone else to keep his back at rest, its pretty harsh, but we have to respect that decision, because if i'm guessing right (I hope -_-) this should be a reboot to the ORIGINAL i presume,( because im hearing that it is basically coming from the original) that there going to make Freddy as we all know him from the First one. Stalking, Tormenting, and murdering Teens in there Dreams), thats what i'm hopeing, and i would like to know just 2 things, 1: would/or did Wes Craven even look onto this or input for this movie, cause respectifully, it is his movie there Rebooting and because New Line owns it...that doesen't mean that New Line came up with the Idea for Freddy (Innit though)And 2: ive heard a lot of things going around is that they have Decided on giving a (Child Molester) Element in freddy background to this new one, and i got to know, for the sake of this Film, It isn't a Direct Approach On Freddy In this one (Meaning He IS!) or is it just a rumour on his background cause hands down, In respect I H8 them type of people, im sorry but i would rather root for a Teenager killing dream demon that only kills in nightmares Than a CHILD Molester Hell Bent on revenge For Some Reason ( From what i herd) because its unsetteling and a bit stiff knowing to think whitch one's worse (you do the math) and just keep freddy with the title everyone knows and follows, wel thats all i have ta say,and i hope you don't make any wrong moves and carefully craft what is a classic into something our generation can understand instead of being mislead on a different perspective. TTFN
Well i've checked up on some comments on here, and from were i'm readin on what Caseybecker is saying, they shouldn't make this, everything should be kept on a one set track and leave it how it is, and i know that always, the originals are FAR more better than ANY Remake or Reboot, but im not sticking up for both side of the playing field, im just saying, we are the population of people of our generation who still love our classics and cherish them rather than seeing something being redone or changed about it...ISN'T going to change anything, because everyone knows, and this is fact, i was only 13 when i watched John Carpenters "The Thing" and i Find it a great film to watch, but then agian i didn't relise 4 years later that it was a Reboot from the 1951 Original "The Thing from another world" and as much as i adore classics i still tend to like the John Carpenter remake, so Do the math. and i note "Were angry because we are having to go through a Classic that shoulden't be Rebooted, but then Platinum Dunes are only Making this film so then it pulls in the Next generation Of younger Audiences so then they can enteract with the franchise like we have for the original Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street and follow up's" and of course i do have a problem with it (but not so seriouse as of not Doing the Reboot, i'm just worried if they are gonna change something thats strong to the franchise) so then the younger audience doesen't get the wrong look on the frachise, and im only running on such short information i'm trying hard to work out whats going to happen and what benefits for both the old and new generations of our time, just think 60% say of our Younger generation are going to look up on this film for having hearing it somewhere before or it is something new and 40% of older generations will think it was a bad idea in the end but we only want to keep it stright so that we don't get our wires in a twist, im saying it on the commotion i heard like someone saying Krueger will be a Molester, and another saying Nacy's a Goth, and then another saying Jackie Earle Haley was a good choice for freddy krueger, it's just a Reboot. Reboot is the new term for something that has a title but changed to a newer Perspective, in this case ANOES and F13 and TCM, they have the frachise and there titles, but are being changed for a mordern, newer look for generations to come, so what can i say, i can't speak for everyone, but it's all about the matters of opinion. so we can say what we want...will not change whats gonna happen, were just gonna have to think for the best, for me, freshining up the franchise for newer audiences and keeping it as close to the originall as possible (but don't expect it to be a Remake, it will be Reboot) and making sure that there is an input toward this film so then i know that at leased someone who's connected to the originall will give there thoughts and advice for this Reboot. what you have to say, i dunno, but thats me for today im ruddy tired TTFN
guys I understand, I feel the same way too about some remakes but there's nothing we can do about. So let's just lay low on this and see how it turns out. I thought the script was kinda good anyway.
Never lay low, you should always speak your mind, and my mind says that it is inexcusable to make A Nightmare On Elm Street movie without Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger.
I agree with myers23 about never laying low, but I think it goes beyond casting choice for Freddy. I've read the script that was circulating and it is pretty much as mediocre as I was expecting. Honestly, nothing about this movie suggests there’s any sort of improvement or refresher to the original film or the franchise as a whole or anything to really look forward to short of a rental. Everything that happens is about as been-there-done that as most most post-Scream mainstream horror and even less imaginative than part 6 or even FvJ. While others have mentioned the primitive and cheesy dialogue, at least Strick was a better choice than the abominable writers that marred F13. It’s more or less a waiting game at this point to see if they can candy-coat it with decent sound, atmosphere, cinematography…and better dialogue since a complete rewrite at this point is out of the question. Then again, is candy-coating it even going to elevate it to watchable status?
Although I´m not completely anti-remakes... The Ring and Dawn of the Dead were pretty decent films in their own right(both had excellent leading ladies by the way). The Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake with Oscar winner Kidman totally sucked balls compared to the 1978 version with Donald Sutherlund. Soooo having Jackie on board don´t mean this film will be any better than it´s PD predecessors. Ugh! Plus it´s kinda typecasty... no? Whateva...
Miafan you are becoming famous for your bad posts. But perhaps the most intriguing entry was a lone post on the IMDb message board courtesy of commenter miafan18, who recapped a fanclub posting she'd seen as follows: "Gossip Girl's own Chace Crawford auditioned for the role of Jessie in the remake of 'A Nightmare On Elm St'. What we are hearing is that the casting director was so impressed with Chace's screen test, they gave him the role right on the spot. So We can be the first one to proudly say Chase Crawford will be in the reboot of A Nightmare On Elm St starring as Jessie." http://blogs.amctv.com/horror-hacker/2009/04/jackie-earle-h aley-freddy.php
This remake is definitely one that should not happen. If Robert Englund says he is getting to old to play Freddy Krueger anymore then everyone should leave the Nightmare franchise alone because no one else no matter who they are could ever get close to Robert Englund's Freddy.
The glove is a gardening tool? Freddy, a clear-cut rapist? PASS. Good Lord, Platinum Dunes just doesn't get it. Why can't the glove be... you know, the creation of a twisted mind? And why use the all-too-easy crutch of having him a rapist? That's just lazy scriptwriting, pure and simple. This is starting to sound more and more like "ROB ZOMBIE'S GRITTY DARK AND EXTREME AND BRUTAL NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (HELL YEAH)". Ugh. If ANYTHING good comes of this remake, it will be the DVD release of Freddy's Nightmares. Surely Warner Brothers won't pass up such an obvious cash-in. They obviously care little about the actual film they're releasing, so maybe if money is all Platinum Dunes and Warner Brothers wants, they will release Freddy's Nightmares. I know that that release will be the ONLY Freddy-related release getting my money this year. Please stop, Platinum Dunes. Please. Stop. No more. Horror fans can take no more.
I am thrilled Thomas Dekker is going to be in this. I had this strange feeling he might, but thought the other horror flick he's amking right now would conflict. Now where's the ladies?!?!?
Don't use some knock off Freddy Krueger in this movie by casting Jackie Earle Haley, use the real Freddy Krueger and cast Robert Englund, either that or kill this remake right now. Robert Englund is the one and only Freddy Krueger.
do you know what i find it just amazing to see such hardcore fans who are truely dedicated to Freddy Kruegers portraylad look (I.E Robert Englund) but can i just please for the sake of arguement....ROBERT ENGLUND WILL NOT PLAY AS FREDDY KRUEGER, i am as MUCH of a hardcore fan as anyone on here, I mean i would be really happy for Robert to play the Killer he created in horror cinema...but harsh reality is, he's not. how unfortunate we live in hard times when we do not get the satisfactory in seeing our Icon being portrayed by another actors, But look at Micheal Myers, Jason Voorhees, everyone was happy...why??? because they wore masks! (Exept For Kane Hodder...But no one cared when Ken Kerzinger Came in on Fvs J and derek myers for F13th Rebot) and our only excuse is because Freddy Doesen't and shows every bit of resemplence to Robert... but if we had any way we could to ask robert to play as freddy krueger...it would have happend, think about it,im not happy about it, but what the hell what can i say thats gonna change there minds!?! and myers23- i would like to ask you, how far are you gonna get and how good is your connection to you banter on not having JEH as freddy, cause heres 1 thing i learned in cinema, no matter what anyone says its gonna go, and its gonna go far, who cares what you think, what i think, Think about it, how far will you go -_-
I'd like to say to Milkins. That although you've mentioned 'The Thing' and 'The Fly' as taking over from the original movies. These are very different scanario's. Those were B-movie films, the "re-makes" of them, REALLY WERE "re-imagining's". When Platinum Dunes say they are re-imaging something, they basically try and throw bits of the franchise here and there in, add guts and gore, an awful script, and a bunch of girls who take their clothes off.... I don't agree with a re-make, I think it's pointless, BUT, I did say, if they are re-booting it, whatever words they want to use to justify it, then they should leave the name, Nancy out of it. Robert Englund shouldn't be included at all either. Neither should scenes from the original, or homages. If they want to reboot it, let them come up with their own names and ideas. I also think that far too many people already put the name Freddy with that of Robert Englund. Yes, it's cos he doesn't wear a mask, yes, it's important. People old enough to see this film, will have seen Freddy Vs Jason. If they then liked the character, they would have looked at the original franchise - so this movie isn't reaching ANY new audience in terms of age or generation, and if it does it will be few. Plus, I honestly don't believe Robert said no to the part, unless he read the script (and I'm being serious). Of course, they're going to let him bow out gracifully and say he didn't want to play the role - their not going to say, we don't want him in it, are they?? I'm hoping now, that he wont even do a cameo, I think it's a huge insult to him, and to the character he created. That he should be reduced to a cameo! I'm not against someone else playing Freddy however unfair I think it is. However, as soon as I saw Platinum Dunes were involved, I knew it would be a terrible movie, because they nearly all have been. And I really want to know as well, if anyone can inform us please do - is WES CRAVEN getting any input into his creation? His story and his characters? Because an interview I saw with him in, he stated that no, he wasn't. Another thing I'll highlight again is that Platinum should be calling their movie something else. "Platinum Dunes ANOES" "ANOES 2010" It's very disrespectful to audiences, fans, actors - everyone except Platinum Dunes in not doing so, because it's inferring that this movie is original. I really comend Rob Zombie for at least sticking his name on the rubbish re-make he put out there. But anyone? Is WES CRAVEN having any input on this????????
Not having the name Nancy for the main girl doesn't make a difference to me. I will still see her as the Nancy character no matter what. I would love to see homages to the original, why not. And btw, I loved Zombie's Halloween, not rubbish at all in my eyes, and I will love the sequel too. So you say remakes are pointless, then why watch them.
This movie will not go far at all, it will not be like a true Nightmare on Elm Street film without Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, and as for Freddy being more of a wisecracking killer in the latter films I always like him being a little funny at times.
Okay Mr. Psychic, if you say so. Freddy vs. Jason wasn't a true NOES film nor a Friday the 13th film for me, and Robert was in it. That movie was just a complete joke. I complained and complained, and what happened, I got over it. I simply didn't include it in my DVD collection.
I already told - I'm a critic, I have to watch them sadly, that's the reason I've been watching them. Although I have boycotted a few on principle, including 'The Hitcher' - which they got completley wrong, as I can tell from the script. And how can you say Myers23 is psychic? When you, psycho, are already saying you'll love the sequel to RZ's Halloween LOL. It was complete crap, utter crap. It was misogynistic to the max, he made every girl take her top off and then get stabbed over and over. He gave MM's a crap/lame ass back story, when the entire point was, he was evil for NO reason. He tried to squeeze two movies into one. He used all the same shit actors he always does. He put his slut bag, crap acting wife in it. He made all the characters rockers/goths. He didn't use the iconic soundtrack. I can list all the crap in it if you like? It'll be fun. I'd have to send you a PM though, because here, we're discussing Platinum Dunes and the way they think they can take over the horror genre with their awful "re-imaginings" RZ's rubbish has faded into insignificance. He brags that he had the best sales, but thats because the price of cinema tickets have gone up immencly, if they did a chart, taking into account sales at the times of release, I'm sure he'd be much lower. They should have finished Halloween with H20, which would have been an apt ending. How do you know you'll like that sequel BTW? Part of Freddy's appeal was the "jokes" which were him actually mocking his victims. This went out of control after number 4:Dream Master, but mocking victims, can be used to terrify an audience, as Freddy did in the original, with "Save me from Freddy", "This is God", "No running in the hallways", "I'm your boyfriend now Nancy!" These made him SCARIER. So Platinum turning him into the same old boring stalk and kill in silence just doesn't work, because he's using his victims worst fears against them, getting into their psyche. You're a fan of the original - you know this. The reason it shouldn't be an homage is because PD's are claiming they're re-imagining it. You can't re-do something but decide to keep the parts you like. Although they've done it EVERY other time. Come on dude, you KNOW this is wrong, a company ONLY doing re-makes. I have friends that are writers, this generation deseres their own set of scary ass killers, not ours regurgitated into a poor copy.
Answer your question casey becker-Wes Craven attended the premiere of "The Last House on the Left" where he said that it "hurts" to see the upcoming remake of "A Nightmare On Elm Street."
He created the original slasher film and the infamous character Freddy Krueger, but has no involvement with the new version. When asked how he felt about the remake, he said: "That one kinda hurts, because I don't have any rights to participate in it at all."
He continued: "It was done at a time when I was dirt poor so I had to sell everything when I sold the script, so that one hurts a bit."
Asked if he would be seeing the film, he said "probably not."http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=124 88
Thanks a lot evilblood96, appreciate it. Jeez, this brings this movie down to a whole new low. I'm shocked, that's so disrespectful, and I don't think anyone will disagree (could be wrong LOL) I mean, he dreamed the entire thing up. The entire thing is his creation, name, characters, plot, words. It's his legacy. Hasn't he suffered enough with the sequels, I know he had input on Dream Warriors and then they gave him New Nightmare (those two and the original, I love), but to completley take it out of his hands. That's f'ing disgusting. You know the guys that created Superman, never got any credit until Smallville, and all that crazy, messed up shit happened to anyone involved in Superman related things. Maybe someone should put a curse on this movie... Sounds like PD are treating Wes with the same disrespect. No wonder Robert's not involved - it's not cos he's too old, he's probably just as disgusted with this company as most others in the buisness seem to be. The money grabbing xxxxx.
Now if even Wes Craven doesn't like what they are doing and has no plans of seeing it, then they should really kill this movie right now. No Robert Englund, no Freddy, no Nightmare on Elm Street.
Isn't there some way Wes Craven can fight to get the rights back? Now with Bob Shaye no longer at New Line Either, I'm sure he could try and help. Shaye loved Nightmare and would have hated this. Without Robert, Wes, Heather, Bob - basically the people behind this movies existence - this is a disgrace to the film franchise. Platinum Dunes are literally in this case, stealing another writers characters and names and trying to pass them off as their own. If they had any respect for the horror genre, they wouldn't do that. Which just goes to prove what we all know. This movie is just being made by greedy money grabbers who don't care about horror, or the people who created it for them to steal. I curse this movie. I'm for sure boycotting it now, and telling everyone that it is basicaly stolen material. Wes Craven is basically saying that what PD are doing is very, very wrong, and no way for a buisness to conduct itself.
I said it before, and I'll say it one more time. I look at it like this, if it isnt Englund as Freddy..
It just isnt an official Elm Street film!
This is just gonna another cheesy fan film cept this time its got the New Line name stamped on it..
Its all a dream...
Iv'e read the comment on what i said that Caseybecker replied upon, and i must say, from what you said about the remakes Actually being "Re-imaginings", of course i know that, i can't say anything that can get my back, and and of course that, and i will credit on it, they SHOULD NOT keep to the same Title name, whitch being a Reboot i can understand that, cause do you know how many people of our generation are confeused about, because without mentioning the "Reboot" in Friday The 13th, my old man was talking about the original 1988 movie, which i can understand coming from someone whos lived longer then me, they should change it, and if it has any meaning to the nightmare franchise they should title it to something like i dunno "Nightmare Reborn" or something, but either way it should be a good idea not to keep a title with the same name...especially for something that created a franchise of movies Ect, and personally for Caseybecker, i've reseached on the reason why Wes Craven Does not have the Rights or involvments on the mightmare franchise, which i will not put on here because it will take to long to discuss and i think for anyone who is a fan (or hardcore) should find out for themselfs, as for me, i dunno till i finds anything out at the moment, untill then. critic 2 critc, will keep going on untill its released untill its been released... (*I just said that just to add something*) untill then. TTFN
brooklyn psycho-retards like you are THE reason the remake shitstorm rages on. We're all thrilled to know you already know you will love RZ's H2. Your comments=FANBOY defined.
re:comment above-on second thought, MONEY is the real reason our classics are being violated. Truck loads of money. Duck tales money. Everyone has a price-just ask Brad Fuller.
Look robert englund will always be freddy kruger. But I think it's a cool idea that they cast someone new. Especially jack earle haley. He was awesome in watchmen. If anybody go see that movie. You'll see why he they cast him as freddy.
Essentially the problem here is not the fact that Elm Street´s getting remade... it´s by whom. It´ll look pretty but ultimately feel vacuous and laughable like all PD remakes thus far. This will NOT be Wes Craven´s A Nightmare on Elm Street 2.0 that´s for fuckin sure!
Thanks Milkins for the PM, I was aware of the Craven situation with the first movie. I'm just curious as to why there hasn't been a bigger legal battle for Wes to get the characters he created back. Especially now, when he's not even being involved in a movie based on characters and situations he created, and people using them will be getting the money that his rightfully his. I honestly couldn't care about Jack Earle Haley's acting abillity. I don't care if they cast Meryl Streep to play Nancy LOL, because the writing from this company is always dreadful. You can put brilliant actors in a film and it can still be terrible, there are plenty of examples, and with PD's history, and the screenplay leaks, this movie sounds so, so bad. I really hope they are reading this - or someone is from their representation, because then they'll know how many ppl on here alone are against this movie. Not to mention the two Ipetitions with thousands of signatures, and the Facebook and Myspace pages against it. The majority of people don't want this, the problem is, people do keep going to see their re-makes. Most of the time they bitch about how bad the movie was, but by then, they've bought the ticket and given these guys their money. The biggest factor against this, this time around though, is Nightmare is such a well known and well loved and respected genre film. Literally, no-one I've spoken to, from young to old isn't shocked by the news, and then really shocked that Robert isn't in it. So people may go and see it out of curiosity, but like all their other re-makes, they seem to fail in the end. TCM was by far the best they've come up with, but then they did the prequel... Hopefully, their 'F13th 2' will flop as well, no-one seemed pleased with their re-imagining. Now that I know Wes Craven, the creator of Elm Street is against this movie, I'm even more against it. I'm sure that is why Robert doesn't want to be involved. If he does do a cameo, I think I'll lose respect for him. Because he has nothing to gain, and it will be like saying what PD's are doing is okay, when it's very wrong. Especially considering the character of Freddy made Robert a horror icon, and that choice was made by Wes Craven. I agree with the above poster that if Robert Shaye was still around I really don't think this would be happening, because even he (after all the sequels) apologised to Wes for taking his creation out of his hands. I'm just waiting to see what these guys have planned for this outrage next.
hey I heard rumors that Daviegh Chase might be cast as Nancy.(So I might be right!) and Leah Pipes(sorority row) might be cast as Kris. In which that just came out of the blue! I think Leah Pipes would be a great fit. So please platinum Dunes make wise casting choices and think of these actresses.
LOL I saw that too jon on the casting section with a big rumor next to it. since anybody can submit anything on there I think it was somebodys fantasy cast.
I would think Heather Langenkamp is upset for Wes and Robert, but I don't think she needs to worry. She IS Nancy, and always will be, a true Scream Queen. PD at least have made out so far that their version of Nancy will not be like hers, so hopefully they will leave the character that Heather created alone and create their own version. (hopefully)
Hey Casey, I sure hope that´s true and they leave the original Nancy character alone. I mean... they are just referencing(I think) Jesse and Kristen(Kris) from the sequels as well - no character correlation , right? Thomas Dekker said, "It’s a good script and I was very impressed." Oh reaallly?
No matter how much you whine, this movie IS happening so you should try to accept that fact. It's a much more healthy emotional response.
No offense to Wes, Robert, Heather, and co. The original is one of my favorite movies.
I want more info. Can they hurry and finalize a cast? Who's the d/p? Who's doing the score? Are they kissing the asses of the cast and crew of ANOES '84 to get them invloved in passing the torch? Most importantly, who's playing Nancy?
i herd a false rumour (Or could it ...0.0) that it was going to be linsy lohan......(*holds it in....*).......HAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH OMG linsy lohan of al people, i mean come on can you compare her to heather langenkamps Nancy to This Reboots nancy...you do the math
Lindsey Lohan rumor is 3-4 months old that was put to bed by her reps.So many bad rumors around who is playing nancy it's starting to get really old cast the part already.
There is plenty you can do besides accept it. People can not go to see the movie causing the studio to lose money on the project, people can write letters to the studios if anyone knows their addresses, people can sign petitions to send to the studios and people responsible. There is plenty that people can do. This movie should not happen without Robert Englund has Freddy Krueger.
I think this movie is going to be amazing. Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy?! Woo-hoo! I saw him in Watchmen and, to me, I think that he made that film amazing. He is so clearly psychopathic and crazy in Watchmen. I can already picture him as a psychopathic slasher. And am I the only one that thinks that Kyle Gallner is an awesome choice for a horror flick? In Haunting in Connecticut, he was just outstanding. He really played his role so well in that. And has no one seen him on the other shows he is on? Come on, people, you gotta remember him from Smallville and CSI: NY. I seriously think that he is gonna play a great role. Okay, maybe I'm a little bit prejudiced but I just think that he is an amazing actor with such depth. And I'm stacked to see this. I've been hearing from some that Platinum Dunes makes crappy remakes but I thought Friday the 13th was awesome. Maybe it focused a little too much on the naked chicks but there was some quality acting in there as well. I am going to see this one and I am going to view it with eyes that don't hold it up to the old horror classics. If you are going to do that, you might as well say that all movies that came out after 1989 sucked because they were done with more acting value than with bloody, gory scenes. To me, a good horror flick is one that scares the pants off of you while still having good quality acting. In my opinion, not many horror flicks in the 80's had very good acting, just really gory scenes.
What the hell are you on about Bloodyjess? The eighties had the best horror movies, why do you think they're re-making them all??? LOL. If you thought Friday the 13th was good - then that's where you're judgement of good acting is amusing. Jared was the only one who could act, and he looked bored. Plus it's todays movies that are nothing but gore, especially from PD with their gorno horror movies. Kyle Gallner is a really great actor, but they can only work with what they're given. I just read the script that's out there, the first half wasn't that bad actually, but the second half wasn't good at all. I don't know how much they've changed now, but Nancy's character reads as the weakest. 'Course things can change, especially on screen. I don't wanna give my crits out anyway, incase they do actually listen LOL. I don't think the original needs to worry so far.
LMAO Agree 100 percent with casey becker even slither ripped off night of the creeps which was a 80's horror movie and people on the site ate it up like it was a original ideal with all the young writers nobody can come up with a original ideal.I don't hate remakes I actually liked the hills have eyes and thought it was better than the original but come Bloodyjess.
I don't hate remakes or the current wave of comic book movies, but seriously Hollywood is out of control. They need to stop playing it safe and put some original work out there.
I'm not pleased with this chick. I would have been happy with KATE Mara. Still, I think she a poor choice and have lost complete and utter interest in this film Sorry, Brad. To me, the casting of this part was as integral as who was cast as Freddy.
Didn't the choose a "next door girl" type for the first movie, and it worked out great?/ I would prefer that this movie has a lot of unknown actors and actresses that can bring a fresh identity to this movie. I believe that it makes the character more believable in his/her role.
Ok, seeing as Brad fuller hasn't done any update on this film, I guess he isn't bothering to read our posts. Plus I officialy don't believe a word he says. He rips off the fans who love the genre. Case in point - both versions of Friday the 13th (theatrical and killer cut) would be on the same DVD. Well this was a lie, if you want both versions on DVD, you have to buy them separately whereas the Blu-Ray version will have both. Well, you can take a hike with getting my money. Platinum Dunes are liars who just want to make money and screw the fans over. A Nightmare on Elm Street is gonna be shit and ruin everything the original created.
Don't really know who that girl is that is going to be playing Nancy, but she looks like she might could handle it. Jackie Earle Haley on the other hand cannot play Freddy Krueger. There is only one Freddy Krueger and his name is Robert Englund. No Robert Englund, no Nightmare on Elm Street movie.
Unlike the original landmark film which opened small and went on to garner cult status, this new version will most probably open big and then rapidly fade into obscurity. I love the Fred Krueger character and the whole Elm Street mythology but there´s no way in hell I´m paying to watch this crapfest. Reality check y´all... everything PD touches turns to shit, be it original material or lousy remakes. Wake up kids!
CMYKid why don't you sit at home with your vhs tapes and remember the good old days when gas was 1.50 a gallion and you still had a shot at getting laid.
muderinc23 why don't you insert foot into mouth? I realize a lot of you kids just don't get it, but when you finally get out of middle school you will realize all the crap you put so much blind faith in will be quite laughable. The only thing memorable about this remake will be another notch in PD's belt of cash cows that could have been great.
murderinc23 you can suck it, u know why? ´cause the current state of horror cinema in the US is just as pathetic as you are! in 10-20 years time we´ll look back at what a lame and uninspired decade the 00s were for american horror... thanks nonetheless to tools like yourself who actually pay to watch this shit.
yea you're kind of right CMYkid, friday the 13th was one of my favorite franchises, even halloween. and now they are somewhat ruined. I just saw that H2 trailer. And I think it kind of sucked. the ghost of micheal's dead mother? I mean come on, what was rob zombie was thinking. And the overexporse of the friday the 13th remake wanted to make me throw up in my mouth.
These remakes, reboots, or whatever you want to call them are not going to ruin anyone's favorite franchise. Well, if it does, then I feel sorry for you. I know for sure that my favorite franchises haven’t been ruined, regardless the outcome of these remakes. My VHS + DVD classics are sitting on my shelf, unharmed, and looking good. No "BAD" remake is going to tarnish my collection, simple as that. I'm looking forward to ANOES.
to tell you the truth, I was a little bit wishy washy with the friday the 13th remake. I don't know whether it was decent or a pile of crap. But I'm not against the ANOES remake. It won't top the orignal, but it might be entertaining non-the-less.
I'm still against this remake, recasting Freddy Krueger instead of having Robert Englund is a mistake and this movie will pay for it when it arrives in theaters and doesn't make money.
No matter what they do, no matter how good the acting is, no matter how good the story is, this will never stand up to the original Nightmare on Elm Street and this will never be considered a true Nightmare on Elm Street film without Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. The sooner they realize that, the better, because right now they are making a huge mistake making this movie with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. Face it, there is only one true Freddy Krueger and that is Robert Englund.
hey, how is everyone...first of all i would like to say that, i love what u guy's r doing with these remakes, they're awsome...now, i'm very excited that "Friday The 13th" is coming out on Blu-Ray, i just want to know if u guy's r going to bring the other ones out on Blu-Ray also...like, "The Texas Chainaw Massacre" and all the other ones that u guy's have done...i can't wait for "A Nightmare On Elm Street" to come out next year, i hope it's gonna be really creepy.
I also want to throw in some movies that i would like to see a remake for..."CHRISTINE", "CUJO", enough of this Alien VS Predator crap (i'm not saying that they're not good), but bring back the accuall "ALIEN & PREDATOR" movies, and whatever pops into ur heads...but make sure it's very disturbing..lol.
and i have to say, i love the Blu-Ray cover for "Friday The 13th"...for those of u who have not seen it yet, go to www.blu-ray.com, and type in Friday The 13th...it's awsome.
The cover is awesome. Cujo sounds like a good idea. Hey folks, Katie Cassidy has been cast as Kris. Awesome news. I can't believe I didn't think of her. She was awesome in Black Christmas.
Wow, I just wanted to stop by and thank you, platinum dunes-for stomping all over my favorite film of all time. You guys seriously are bastards. There was still so much A Nightmare On Elm Street (The series) had going for it, what you're doing is like stopping at Star Wars Episode 5 to remake Episode 1. (Well, chronologically that's inaccurate, but you get my point.) I don't blame Haley for taking the role, I blame greedy producers like you for stealing Robert Englund's. Thanks guys, you suck.
With the upmost disrespect, G1ngy
PLATINUM DUNES!!!OR SHOULD I SAY BRAD FULLER: THIS IS FOR YOU
You may or may not actually be reading these comments, but I emplore you to read mine, not because I think my opinion is better, but because I want you to hear what I think of you as a person and the disgusting decision you have made to remake this film. I am a huge Nightmare on Elm Street fan, I grew up with these films in the 80's and grew to appreciate and respect Wes Craven not only as a writer and director, but as a teacher,which he first was. His artistic creativity for the origional film opened my young mind to dreams, psychology, and criminology, which effectivily started out as hobbies in my teens and now are the basis of my career and what I believe to be my souls purpose to be. I believe what you are doing is down right wrong! You are slapping Wes Craven in the face and spitting on his childhood memories. Do you have any idea how hard this movie was to make for him? How many companies shot him down? Probably not, all you do is steal other peoples ideas, demean the story, and reap the benefits, all because you hold no actual talent to any of these creative writers. He may not say this to your face or admitt this, but in his heart I guarantee that he feels you are raping his baby. I have no doubt that you will butcher if not f*** up this movie with all the energy your greedy little hands can get on. Secondly, you are taking a decade of success away from Robert Englund, he is Freddy Krueger. I hear that he has said he wants no part in playing the character again, but that is because you boastfully shot him down saying he is not scary and will not cast him, but egotistically hope that he'll make a camio. Hello! I wouldn't want to work with a discriminating dick either. I dont know who you think you are, but I am not ashamed to say I hope you fail hard core. You have crossed the line this time with your unorigional flare as only you can do so well. For a horror franchise I expect better, but for a copycat why am I surprised. Know you are killing art and true fans will be outraged with your version of this story, we will only remember how you screwd up. With every moment you film this movie imagine a Van Gogh painting being distroyed. Finally, it doesnt't really matter what I say or think you will continue on your path of destruction, whatever you do though "DONT FALL ASLEEP" your dreams may come after you and show you exactly who you really are.
I'm not trying to mean here but, "WAKE THE F*** UP KRITTY". I mean yes, you can't beat the originals, i own all of them and love them, but the reason why they are remaking these movies is that, they want to make them for this generation, i mean lets face it the 1984 version would probably seem like a joke to most people...i'm a big fan of Friday the 13th & Halloween, and when i first heard that they were going to be remade i kept telling myself that they would suck and stuff, but u know what they turned out alright...and u keep talking about how he's "hurting" Wes Craven with this remake, look at "THE HILLS HAVE EYES" & "THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT" (and that one was his directional debut back in '72), those remakes he was a part of, now u can't tell me that they won't include Wes in this movie, i mean c'mon...with the remake of Halloween, Rob Zombie went direcly to John Carpenter before doing anything with it, so don't bad mouth anybody who has the means to make it "better".
Mr.Dunes Fan,
I don't think your comment is mean at all, think whatever you like, I do it's a free country. You are oviously not a fan of origional work. You are the kind of fan that Hollywood loves, you pay money to see shity remakes that completly ruin the story line and replace it with nonsense. I may have come of a little strong above, but I will not apologize. All Platinum Dunes is good for is stealing, they need to make their own film and we'll see if they can actually produce anything worth while. You are the reason Hollywood doesn't want to make anything new. Lets play it safe, not try, is that seriously the message we want to send to this generation? Sorry, but no REAL fan would call the 1984 version a joke and I will voice my opinion and say this remake will not be better. You can't take another persons idea change some names around and call it better. It's STEALING!!!!and not for good intentions, only for profit.
I'm wasn't saying that the 1984 version was a joke to me, i was just saying it to most people that did not grow up in the 80's. and i know it's a free country and ur aloud to say what u like, and that's fine...yes i will agree that these remakes are ruining the original aspects of these movies, but c'mon man, isn't it time for a change, i mean u don't have to like the idea of a remake, u just have to accept the fact that others do...ok, i to would love to see them produce something of their own, but for now, this is what they're doing.
This is my concept for what Freddy would look like in the 2010 film. I like what I’m hearing so far, when it comes to the script/ story of the new film. The original movie was very original and artistic and I feel art direction for the re-imaging should be to. I know that the overall look of the re-imaged film such as Texas chainsaw &Friday the 13th have had this orange grunge tint to them and I’m sure The new Nightmare will have this same look , which is fine with me.
I think it would be really cool to see something totally opposite and use a basic concept of complementary colors and flip what we have seen from Freddy in the past. This would truly separate the new film from the past ones. Freddy’s traditional colors are red & black. So let’s make them green and black, let’s keep the hat, burn scars, knifes, but let’s make a few changes. I would also like to see his clothes more sharp looking and not tattered, personally I think that would be scarier to see a well dressed man, with a burned face and knifes. I know that by changing these things you would catch a lot of crap from fans, but the diehard ones are going to see it regardless. This is just my idea and what I would do if I were in charge of the project.
(A cool fact about myself is that I share the same birthday as the release of the original film 11/16/1984)
It will never be time for someone new to play Freddy Krueger because there is only one Freddy Krueger and his name is Robert Englund. As I have said all along this movie is a mistake and it will bomb at theaters. Jackie Earle Haley is nothing compared to Robert Englund, replacing Robert Englund was the ultimate disgrace to the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.
All the people that are bad mouthing this movie, keep going 'cause that's all the motivation they need to make this movie great...u guy's r doing an awsome job...lol.
So the characters are suppossed to all eight or more of them FORGET that they are so badly abused by this guy that they have internal injuries!!! I think they'd know every morning when they looked down. This script is a pile of shit which just takes bits from the original and sequels and mashes it up with a new story. Copying Tina's death scene!!! Write something f'ing new you unoriginal xxxxers. The casting of Nancy is MORE important than the casting of Freddy, because he's not even in the original that much, just in the shadows etc, but they're even stealing lines from that such as "I'm your b/f now Nancy" - this is pathetic, and hardcore fans will be boycotting it. PPl have had it with this company, they can't write for shit and Wes Craven has already stated that he's HURT by this re-make and that he has no input into it. PD's just STEAL other writers ideas and shit all over them. WE can bitch about them for three years, nothing will make this a good movie, they saw to that by disrespecting the original creator and actors. Why do a remake of something that doesn't need re-making. Plus, they'll never get the rights to CUJO or CHRISTINE - THank God!!! Stephen King keeps tight strings on his movies. The only ppl who will go to see this are either uneducated in the horror genre, or they don't mind seeing shitty films, that they've basically seen before with different actors and a few different scenes. All they've done with ANOES 2009 is gore it up, sex it up, and fxck it up. The original became so huge from fans spreading the word about how brilliant it was - that's really something! This movie is hyped to be shit, but ppl will probably go, hate it and then forget about it. The original is still here, and you don't have to be old DUnesfan to love the originals, I know young teens who hate all these re-makes, but they can obviously judge a good film from a bad one - something you, by name alone, obviously cannot. Kris is the main character in this movie so far, and we all know she's based on Tina because they've stolen the love story with her and Rod, so we all know that she dies. There's no Janet Leigh shock this time around - these guys are numbskulls. I'd love them to write something original, I bet it would be even worse than their crap re-makes. They're not re-boots or re-imaginings, be honest, they're crap re-makes. They just make ppl go and see the original and appreciate it even more - that happened to me with Black Christmas. I couldn't believe I'd never seen the original one, which is fantastic and was so innovative for its time. This generation knows Freddy, they don't need him remade. This sucks on SO many levels. They're casting is so predictable too, I wonder what that gal will look like as Nancy the anti-social, artist Goth, who just wants to get out of town after getting her tits out and slutting it up?
Making Nancy goth is just as stupid as replacing Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. This whole remake is spitting in the faces of all those who made the original Nightmare on Elm Street and all those who love the original. This movie should not be made. This movie is an absolute disgrace to the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
Wow. With the casting of Katie Cassidy in this movie, you have lost my complete and utter interest in this film. She is perhaps the worst working actress in the industry at the moment. Have you bothered to watch Black Christmas? Thanks for ruining the ANOES franchise for me.
So I just started reading the script...can someone please tell me WHY THE FUCK IS NANCY A 'CREEPY GOTH GIRL'? (that is an actual quote from character 'Jesse' for those who haven't read it yet). I guess a detail like this is what PD defines as their 're-imagining' of the story. This piece of shit is going to be exactly that-just what I expected. Jackie Earle Haley isn't gonna save this script...'Remember me? We used to play'...BARF It's no wonder they are using some of the lines from the original. R.I.P. NOES
And OF COURSE these geniuses also figured out a way to throw in an UNDERGROUND TUNNEL. JEEEESUSSSSS H. MOTHERRRRR FUCKKKING CHRRRRRIISSSTTTT! It just wouldn't be a PD remake without a good old fashioned underground tunnel. This news now has me excited for the overblown sepia tone this film (like all other PD remakes) will have. PLATINUM DUNES PLEASE JUST FUCKING STOP ALREADY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH-IF YOU WANT TO MAXIMIZE YOUR PROFITS TRASH THE SCRIPT AND THE CAST AND START FRESH AND GET THE REAL MOTHERFUCKING FREDDY YOU TALENTLESS FUCKING HACKS
I don't have anything against Goth's - far from it LOL. As I've said above though, it will distance the audience from the character, after all that's why Goth's dress like that - to set themselves apart. Besides, it's a boring cliche. I like the fact that the movies going to suck so bad anyway - all their movies have, why should this be any different? I don't see why the name 'Nancy' has to be in this film. If they're re-imagining it as they constantly say - then why? The character has nothing else to do with the original character, why not give her another name - she doesn't even have the same surname or parents' names. The script was written in Januarry, from what PD have said lately, it sounds that it is exactly the script that has been leaked. Of course, they probably released it on purpose to get fan feedback. There really isn't enough time for them to do major differences to the script. The character of Kris is the most well developed, she should be the main, central character. Instead of bumping her off in a rip off of Tina's death. I know LOL, another underground tunnel - it's SO patheticly dull. Freddy isn't returning, Freddy is officially DEAD. He died in 'New Nightmare.' These guys are a disgrace for STEALING Wes Craven's work - what sort of company does that to a well respected genre director? That is ALL they can do though, steal other creative people's ideas, and then fxck them up royally.
"The only ppl who will go to see this are either uneducated in the horror genre, or they don't mind seeing shitty films, that they've basically seen before with different actors and a few different scenes"
RIGHT ON! Remember, Platinum Dunes, this may look like a sure thing because of the name brand recognition associated with Freddy, but this is still a remake that NOBODY ASKED FOR. LONG LIVE WES CRAVEN. Michael Bay needs to stick to toy movies. His approach to something like "Nightmare on Elm Street" is to treat it like a corporate asset, but ironically he's going to develop it in such a way as to forfeit its value as a pop culture touchstone. He doesn't "get it" and never will. Just make "The Rock Part II" and leave the good stuff alone.
When I heard the news about A Nightmare On Elm Street remake I was apprehensive. As long as the movie remains scary with no campy, dark humor, I will watch it. :D
u platinum dunes guys have no respect do u? u money grubbin' sons of a bitches! u obviously don't care what the fans think considering how many petitions have been made against the new elm st. and i say that soaked in sarcasm cuz it's not elm st. anymore. u've also disrespected Wes. Ya the creator. hey y don't u ask ur writer how he would feel if someone took "arachnophobia", and shit on it like ur doin to Craven's masterpiece. Do u have no morals? You don't ruin someone elses artwork! U sicken me....
Why do you guys keep bitching and complaining about this nightmare remake?? I'm thinking that some of you really need to sit back and rethink whats important in your lives..It's a damn movie!! Nightmare was always my favorite horror franchise and while I'm not quite sure I agree with replacing Robert Englund, I'm interested to see what they can pull off considering all the advances that have happened in film making and makeup since the original was made back in the 80's. Even if they do a shitty job with the movie (which I doubt) I will always have the original to fall back on and enjoy (as will the rest of you). I personally believe that Jackie is going to do an amazing job as Freddy and I believe everyone at Platinum Dunes have their minds truly focused on creating something special with this particular remake..Also, nobody's forcing you to see it when it comes out.
* The following is reguarding the potential awesomeness of the Friday sequel, I know this was a posting on Freddy but im trying to put this message in alot of your guys' blog postings in hopes it will be read...
Hey guys, i wrote already about how using some kind of storyline involving Jason's FATHER
is a golden idea, one it's never done before in any of the 12 films...
I ALSO thought of another great idea involving Jason's FATHER, and that is this:
Ive noticed Jason isnt just "kinda retarded" he's obviously mangled in the face, but this
too is also never explained and I think the PERFECT tied together explanation is that
Jason's Father ELIAS is the one responsible for Jason's mangled face, because it's OBVIOUS
Pamela Voorhees loved Jason too much to ever mangle his face in anyway, so how did it become so?
Drowning isnt gonna cut away your face and make it look blistery like in the latest Jason, I liked
the latest one, I honestly dont know why so many people complained, everybody wanted Jason to
go back to crystal lake, you guys did that, everybody wanted to see young Jason and Pamela, you guys did that too,
I can see how you guys really try your best to please the fans more than people appreciate.
with that being said, from a huge fan of the franchise and im not against ANY of the 12 films in the franchise,
they are all simply slasher films with fun, Id watch a Jason movie over the shitty Saw films anyday.
So...to sum it up guys...
For the Friday the 13th Sequel consider these ideas:
*Include Jason's FATHER in this film some how some way for some reason, my suggested reason
is to use a storyline explaining that his father Elias Voorhees was the one responsible for
mangling his son Jason's face.
*ALSO consider using the idea that perhaps Elias was actually having sex with a counseler
while Jason "drowned" or "almost drowned" and that would be a pretty cool revelation as well.
I just think there's got to be more to the mangled face idea because there's no reason or logical
explanation ever really given. The original films kind of made Jason more grotesque with each film so
it was a growing process, but in this remake/reboot he's already mangled as hell...but why? He wasnt
mangled when he saw his mom killed just a bit inbred looking, you could even use something wacky like
Elias was really like Pamela's brother or cousin to explain the retardation...but that storyline might
not be too excepted well. but im just offering my two cents as a fan of this franchise.
YOu could also easily insert some kind of idea mentioning that Elias was with the counseler and got caught
but fled leaving the girl to defend for herself, and since Pamela is decapitated she never had a chance to
go after him next, and so Elias disappeared for years and now has returned (for some reason youd have to make up)
to crystal lake either to Help or Kill his boy.
*And, although this following was NOT my idea, but from a user who posted it on here somewhere I saw a while back
and their idea, which is awesome, is to actually do something involving snow for a damn change, I think it would be
quite creepy to see Jason standing there as it is snowing and we pan in slowly all the way up into his eyes waht a
awesome creepy moment that would be, but that doesnt mean it has to all take place in snow as I know the dick users
are gonna be closed minded on that one, but most certainly it could be considered in the opening of the film and
really catch people off guard with interest.
I hope you guys consider my thoughts above, and this all was written specifically for Platinum Dunes to read
and consider these ideas, I didnt write these for the users because there's always gonna be 1/4 who are
closed minded dicks who get mad when they dont get their ba-ba.
So, Brad and Andrew...if you guys like the suggestions above and want me to shell out more good ideas for a
script writer to use, feel free to send me a message on here. im full of good ideas, im not educated in
films at all but Ive certainly seen more movies than I probably should in my life, so I know a good idea because
I have a pretty good idea of what ideas have been done or not done and what might be cool to do, to offer something
a little extra for this special "13th" Friday the 13th sequel!!
I know I'm a little late to the blog but as a mid-30's Nightmare fan, this remake is disgusting.
You know, there seems to be a rash of these recently and I'm sure it has everything to do with catching the current generation of teens who will watch anything as long gore is involved. I'm willing to bet there will be no heart and soul to this film, unlike the original. It's nothing more than taking someone's art and rearranging it because you couldn't come up with your own. The original is a great film and shouldn't be ripped off my modern day copycats who care only about the dollar sign and care nothing about creativity. Why not just make a sequel? I know why, the kids wouldn't cram the seats like they will a remake.
This is a disturbing trend in cinema. Reboots are OK if they are handled with care (Star Trek) or if the franchise had nowhere to go up to begin with (Friday the 13th) but the original Nightmare had substance and style and more than anything, it was creative.
Don't even get me going on not casting Englund and not having Craven involved.
It's a shame that this movie was made. It's even a bigger shame that it will - even though I hope not - make some profit.
I'm sure the filmakers are patting themselves on the back for ripping off Craven and his vision while calling it theirs.
I pray this film fails.
"Why do you guys keep bitching and complaining about this nightmare remake?? I'm thinking that some of you really need to sit back and rethink whats important in your lives..It's a damn movie!!".........It's a good think not everyone thinks like you or they would be crapping on franchises every single day.
Im very excited about the Nightmare remake...these cats have done one helluva job on everything they've touched so far, I'm sure this film will follow suit...
Honestly, I just thought some things were sacred. It's one thing to re-make halloween, Friday the 13th, etc. Both of the villains in those movies had no personality. All you really needed was a guy that fit the costume, and had fairly good physical timing. They were just a wrecking ball you just couldn't stop. But Freddy, man, that guy was nothing but personality. This is just one of those movies you just don't touch. Hey, I have an idea, why don't you get one of your own? I'm totally boycotting this movie, and will seriously do my best to make sure anyone I know doesn't see this move either, in the theater or on DVD.
Kyle Gallner in my eyes is probably one of the best, if not the best young actor out there...
Every role he takes on, he plays it to perfection.
He is an intense and versatile actor who i only hope becomes an A-list star because he deserves it with so much talent....
Im not surprised his audition blew you guys away :)
Well done PD for casting him and can i just say the rest of the cast looks awesome too.
