Busy, busy, busy...

So it has been quite a long time since I have written. Drew and I have been slammed with finishing up both movies- and will be working right up till New Years Eve to finish everything. But I wanted to take a moment and thank you for your support. I really mean that. The Unborn trailer has been so well received, and frankly we couldn't be happier with it. The challenge for us on The Unborn was to create a horrifying PG-13 movie. We couldn't dip into our usual bag of tricks - spraying body parts to create scares. Goyer's script did have amazing imagery- and that was what attracted us to it. But Drew and I would spend many hours debating whether Eli Walker (the old man) was scary enough- or if a scary kid digging into Odette's stomach would freak people out. It was a risk for us, but it feels like people are responding to the trailer, and I can assure you that the TV campaign will provide even more scary moments. Look for those commercials around Christmas.
Jason Voorhees is back, and now you know what he (and we've) been up to. That trailer hit the web on Friday and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Since the day we started Friday 13th, we've liked the idea of bringing back the countdown trailer, from the original. Bill Neil, who along with Michael Jones, created that trailer are fans, like us. They understood how important it was to be true to the original, but at the same time bring it into 2009. Most of you have seen a couple of our movies and know how much we love horror films. So let me ask you this question. Would we create a trailer that gives away every kill??? Let me remind you - this isn't our first time to the barbeque. I've also read much of feedback on the poster. We went through 50 different concepts to arrive at the one you'll see in theaters - and all the things I've read were things we considered. Is the machete to long- or too short? Is Jason's neck too wide? In the end, we love the imagery and quite simply- feel that Jason looks terrifying. I want to let you in on something- and Warner Bros. would kill me if I give too much away, but suffice to say that the poster isn't the only imagery you'll be seeing for the movie - and what is coming will blow you away. It is coming soon and when you see it - you'll know what I am talking about.
As we get closer I am going to try to write more, but keep posting, because I read everything.

the poster looks good the machete is kinda long but oh well. As for the trailer thought it was pretty damn good can't complain. Just hope this is better than rob zombie and how he butchered my beloved Halloween. |
 | jrsjr81 9:57am, December 8, 2008
Hey Brad, I love the look of Jason in this movie! :-) I especially love Jason's thick neck! :-) It's really freakish! :-) I sure do hope that we get to see Jason unmasked in this one and I also hope that we see Pamela Voorhees and little Jason's scenes reinserted back into the movie as well! :-) |
 | Zombie Dude 1:29am, December 9, 2008
I think Jason being unmasked is one of the most important elements of a Friday movie. It's such a disappointment when it doesn't happen (which seems to be the case with the New Line sequels). I hope this gets released in Australia at the same time. Every site I check keeps changing the releases date and I'd hate to see it after everybody else. Love the trailer btw and sack Jason looks pretty neat. |
 | XIØN 5:34am, December 9, 2008
Anything better than Zombie's crap..please!
|
 | PsychoSlasher 7:47am, December 9, 2008
Brad, I have to say that I must proclaim you and Andrew as the "Saviors of F13." If anything that I saw in that trailer is an indication of what the final product will be...then Febuary is going to be one hell of a ride!
-Thanks,
Pat R. |

Brad, Gabe here, from Argentina.
I've been a fan of the F13 series for quite sometime now (let's say 20 years, since I was born around the time the first one came out) and I absolutely LOVED both the trailer and the new poster that surfaced last week. I can't wait for the movie to be released, and I honestly doubt it will disappoint.
The sack looks great,BTW (Yeah, I know... that sounds dirty). |
 | Zaero 9:18am, December 9, 2008
As a HUGE Friday the 13th fan I want to thank you for the direction that you are taking this. As a fan, the nods as well as the atmosphere from the trailer (and teaser) show to me that you are taking pride with this reboot. Very excited for February 13th. |
 | innspecter 9:58am, December 9, 2008
I think the trailer looks fresh and exciting. I guess the only thing I'll miss about the original Friday movies are those sweet 80's babes, but I'm sure you'll have adjusted that to 2009.
Sack-head Jason looks great. He really reminds me of that terrifying image from The Town That Dreaded Sundown VHS cover box, and that's a good thing!
My favorite Jason was in Part IV, so that's where I'll draw my comparison from. Past experience has taught me not to rely or expect things solely based on trailers, but you have intimated over this blog that you're a fan, and that gives me hope. |
 | Protecious 10:48am, December 9, 2008
Thanks Brad. Friday looks great. from one fan to another thanks! |
 | THEhorrorBUFF 12:42pm, December 9, 2008
Yup I'm a HUGE F13 fan - I DEF appreciate the look/style you are pulling from parts 2-4. Won't lie, originally was saddened to hear Jason would ONLY be killing with a machete - but after seeing the trailer I know thats NOT the case. In the earlier films the selection of weapons made it fun & never boring! INCREDIBLE job on the 'baghead'. Loved part 2! As for the poster - its cool! Reminds me a tad of the VENOM poster - but this is waaay cooler. My anticipation is already in high gear for this film ... let the countdown to FEB 13, 2009 begin! Oh - love the count down in the trailer too! |
 | spykderdtc 12:59pm, December 9, 2008
Brad, I have very much enjoyed all of the Platinum Dunes remakes, and Friday the 13th appears to be just as promising. To be honest, I have had complete faith in this remake since the news broke. Finally, we get to see the trailer and I was blown away, as usual. It was shocking to see a trailer for a Friday the 13th movie that actually seems suspenseful and scary! |
 | andy33123 2:05pm, December 9, 2008
The Poster is Atmospheric & Creepy and sets a great tone for the film... and the Trailer was FLAWLESS!!! I'm excited to see the advertising campaign for television. I remember catching most of the Texas Chainsaw Tv Spots when they aired (and I still have them). Once again you guys have nailed the marketing process! |
 | stewietantrum 2:16pm, December 9, 2008
From all the images, trailers, interviews, etc. that have surfaced, I am confident that this will be a true Friday the 13th film. I like that Jason will have both the sack and the infamous hockey mask. I also like that (according to what I've read) it's going to have all the blood, guts, and nudity that a Friday the 13th film should have... not that gratuitous nudity really does it for me, but it shows that you're staying true to the franchise, which--as a long time fan of the series--is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work! |
 | brandonsl21 2:40pm, December 9, 2008
Ya know, yeah maybe his neck looks a little big and maybe the Machette is long but ya know what this is something NEW this ins't the same old tired stuff from the other 10 films. This is a new take on Jason and Friday the 13th and I am looking very much forward to it. I will say this that the trailer was very cool and love it but judging from that is does look a little like TCM & TCM: The Beginning. But Feb. Friday the 13th we will all find out if this will be great or suck. Halloween has always been the leader in the horror films in scare's and financial. So here is Friday's chance to maybe put Halloween in 2nd place and finally be #1 or Friday will remain second best who knows!!! |
 | francesco 3:16pm, December 9, 2008
the F13 poster and trailer are AMAZING! can't wait to see this flick.
i just hope for an opening ending! don't kill JASON!!! |
 | flesheater123 3:29pm, December 9, 2008
holy shit the whole time I was thinking that the unborn was R and then I found out it was PG-13 so I was like mehhh but after seeing goyer's dark knight I know he has the true power to push everything in a PG-13 it shall be a cool ass HARD pg-13. I am ready.
As for F13 that shall be amazing, I was really really angry when I heard that they were remaking it but I have faith I loved every movie you put out and every remake was amazing so F13 shall be the same I hope. |
 | Myers54 4:00pm, December 9, 2008
I will echo my comments that I wrote the other day on BD. Friday the 13th Part II is one of the very first horror movies I watched as a kid (and I mean a kid...I think I was 4 or 5 years old). It has a special place in my heart, and from the looks of thing you have recaptured everything that made Jason special. I know the Hockey Mask is iconic so it had to be in the new flick, but the "Sack Head" just looks down right sinister. It just looks like everything Friday the 13th should be in terms of a reboot. So far so good. Can't wait til' February 13th. |
 | godzilla voorhees 4:17pm, December 9, 2008
actually brandonsl21 friday the 13th is #1 financially halloween is like number 4 or something |
 | foofighter24 4:26pm, December 9, 2008
Thank you for turning a beloved movie icon and franchise into another non-descript modern slasher. You have already sapped the soul out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies, and now this steaming turd is going to do the same to the Friday the 13th series. You guys do a great job of marketing to the teeny bopper crowd, I just wish it wasn't at the expense of the real Friday the 13th fans. |
 | themanbehindthemask 5:12pm, December 9, 2008
Hey Brad, i just want to say i think that you guys over at PD are doing a great job with this movie. The new trailer, Jason's new bag-head, and everything else having to do with this pic is great! I am really looking forward to this movie more than any movie i have ever seen....take that "The Dark Knight"!!!! |
 | qmanaman1 6:16pm, December 9, 2008
Im a long time friday fan, maybe not as much as i use to be (though saying that i'll be flying to the states to see the film from the UK)a little sad i know, but i need a holiday and i might as well go when this is out :P)
but ever since you guys were said to be making the remake, i was happy. you made a good job of the other remakes and from what ive seen so far im very pleased and excited. Mask, machete, Jason all look great.
|
 | codydean 6:19pm, December 9, 2008
I Just keep getting more and more excited for this film! Thank you! |
 | tszilla 6:27pm, December 9, 2008
Don't change anything! So far you guys have nailed everything on this movie, and there's no reason to think you'll mess it up now. |
 | scabboy 6:51pm, December 9, 2008
I thought the trailer was solid, it homaged the past films in many ways including the 1,2,3,4,5,6... counting. One thing I loathe is the fact that Jason laways has to be depicted with a machete. A machete is such a generic signature weapon and from parts 9 down to 2 he rarely used it. I'd love to see Jason on the poster with a nice, brutal double-sided ax myself. |
 | justice rehnquist 9:26pm, December 9, 2008
Brad,
I agree with my fellow members that the Friday the 13th trailer was well done.
I especially liked the scene where the girl, after falling off her water skiis, sees Jason with machete in hand walk down toward her - PURE BRILLIANCE BECAUSE THE SCENE IS SHOT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!! I can't emphasize enough how much more erie and scary horror is when it occurs during the "safe" time of daylight. TOO MANY HORROR FILMS RELY ON EVERYTHING OCCURRING DURING NIGHTTIME & HEAVY RAINPOUR. Kudos to Marcus Nispel (and I'm assuming Cinematographer Daniel Pearl) filming in beautiful daylight to show Jason in true "terror" form.
Brad, please keep up the good job with Platinum Dunes. I gained newfound admiration for director Michael Bay after I learned that he established Platinum Dunes to remake classic horror titles. Good for Bay!!
I hope you keep up the Blog more regularly. Thanks again!
|
 | makaveddie81 9:54pm, December 9, 2008
Please have Jason wear the traditional green work shirt and gray pants (albeit a little torn up and dirty) and make the mask whiter. The over-sized jacket makes him look like a little kid wearing his Dad's outfit. The old-school look is long overdue. |
 | makaveddie81 10:06pm, December 9, 2008
For the sequel ;) |
 | Penhall 4:56am, December 10, 2008
Mr. Fuller, in nearly every interview, you and your producing partner go on and on about the "insane" amounts of drug use and nudity in this film. I'm not saying I dont wanna see a little t&a, but you make it sound like a porno version of Harold and Kumar with Jason guest starring. The original Friday series (the classic Paramount ones released from 80-89) had some nudity and drug use, but it wasnt overboard. In fact, part 3 and 6 had no nudity at all. The only ones that had a lot were 4 and 5, and even those didnt have an "insane" ammount. My point is, I wanna see a good, scary, and fun Jason movie. But having wall to wall sex and drug use is not what the Friday films are about. I dont wanna see a damned porno on Friday, Feb 13....I guess it doesnt really matter what I think because its done, but I just want you to realize that there is more to a Jason movie than non-stop sex and drug use. Go back and re-watch parts 1-8 and you will see that. |
 | protoplasm 5:36am, December 10, 2008
Unborn looks sick! It's one of a few movies I'm really interested in the next year. As for the Friday the 13th I guess it's a good move to not continue in the series as the tenth part moved a lot into the future. Let's hope the kills are good enough to keep me watching! Anyway is there a way to contact you, Brad? |

I am once again excitied to see a horror movie. It seems you guys are putting alot of hard work into this movie and want it to be the best it can be. I can't wait. |
 | Dream Master 10:47am, December 10, 2008
I'm sorry, but I don't agree with PENHALL.
You guys don't get it. Brad always talk about "sex and drugs" to assure us that there'a going to be these elements.
And actually, I want LOTS of nudity+sex. We need a movie with balls 'cause it will surprise audiences who only see gore in today's horror movies, like "Chainsaw Massacre" or "Saw".
Oh, I saw a new "version" of the trailer on IGN, with a new song. PLEASE, KEEP THE "DRAMA QUEEN" ONE. A LOT BETTER.
Keep up the good work, guys! I read EVERY interview and I'm amazed how it's turning out. Congratulations.
I just hope we get the "ki ki ki ma ma ma" on every death scene. |
 | RobinSH87 3:28pm, December 11, 2008
Overall, I think it's looking really good. What matters in the end isn't the length of the machete or the size of the neck or the color of the jacket, it's that it seems you've brought back the true essence of Friday the 13th. Jason has new ways, but he's essentially what we all know and love, that unstoppable mama's boy gone wrong. |
 | disanti 5:04pm, December 11, 2008
Thanks for posting something while I'm on vacation! This is the first time I've been allowed near a computer on this trip and it's a nice surprise to see an update, thought you had forgotten about us. I like the majority of the things I see coming out about the movie so keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the surprise that's coming either! The trailer is awesome, I watched it over and over again for a few days in a row haha. Keep the updates/pic releases coming!!!! |

people told me that this one is AMAZING!
so what are u waiting for? |
 | aughoti 10:44am, December 13, 2008
UNBORN looks fantastic. I had a lot of fun requesting friends view the trailer - hopefully we'll have an atypical bunch of folk ready to see it on release.
I'm not sure what to think yet of the F13 sequel - I will see it because I remember being freaked out by the series as a kid - but, if it goes to a new level of sadism with drawn out killing, I'll be bummed more than pleased, because I won't be able to suggest friends should go see it (we have a lot of discussion about what is working for us or not, and the visceral chill is something we seek more than the extended kill). Quick kills were ok it's just the long drawn out agonizing stuff that irks us. I wouldn't expect to see that in F13 films anyways, so, keeping my fingers crossed.
Lastly, I've ALWAYS wanted to see someone tackle a new version of Nightmare's DREAM WARRIORS installment. I hope you guys get there. The concept was better than the execution in the last one (har har) so.. if you get a chance to set this up, *please* go for it and make it work! |
 | Spymunk 3:03pm, December 14, 2008
I hope my friends online will answer me on this, or maybe Platinum Dunes themselves. I just read some comments on here that made me blink and I am wondering if this is true - did you guys decide to cut out Little Jason and Pamela from this movie? PLESE DON'T DO THIS! The origin of Jason - replete with Little Jason popping out of the water - and Pamela - ESSENTIAL! True? |
 | Wlad 8:54pm, December 14, 2008
Great trailer and great poster, Brad. No complaints here. I love this back-to-basics approach. This movie feels a lot like it belongs next to the old series' best (parts 2,3,4). When was the last time we had a great, truly scary and brutal Jason movie free of gimmicks? |
 | Nasty Visions 2:34am, December 16, 2008
Brad,I have enjoyed your past remakes and truly enjoyed the TCM. Intense, very gory, and new spin on a twisted family. Also The Unborn looks like it could be great film. Yet, with all the horror remakes that have came out in the past. None of them come close to bringing a new spin to make them stand out as unique and visionary. I hold my breath on F13.
But as for the Nightmare on Elm Street. My personal favorite slasher/maniac. Your dealing with a character than has far more depth than Jason. You need to shock us on this one. Bring more to the table than just gore. Develop a character that will mess with conscience of the audience.
You have the opportunity to make Freddy so scary he'll truly give people nightmares. I believe if you show his past and the horrible things he did to children. The consequences of his actions. You'll have the basis of truly horrifying character. Please develop the character, show us what we don't already know about Freddy. Or what we do know but just haven't seen. There's so much potential in this film than being just another gore fest.
Sorry for the long post. Just a big NOES fan from way back. And I want Freddy to really scare the hell out the most hard core horror film fan. |

Welcome back Brad! I thought this blog was dead. The new trailer is great, when will we see it on TV? I like the new poster, however I prefer the simplicity of the first one with just the mask. Whatever. You have shown a great appreciation for the series time and time again, and I can't wait to see the final product. And the sequel. And the 2nd sequel. And... |

Hey Brad; I would just like to say that what your doing with the new Friday looks ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! You guys are doing something that very few producers seem to do, and that's listen. You want to make the movie as good as you can while sticking close to the original but at the same time, you listen to the fans and that is a very key factor to get people to see your movie, it looks very eye-appealing from what I can see. Again, a really really great job with what you and Andrew and Michael are doing with this franchise, I am counting the days till the new Friday, as well as a sequel maybe??? Good to hear you back on the blog! |

this is totally unrelated but...(maybe i should tell you that i'm a fan of classic horror movies first...lol)...i would love to see a remake of both - Christine & Cujo - I think you guy's did an awsome job with the remakes of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" "The Amityville Horror" & "The Hitcher" ( I own them all...lol)...I was also thinking, why not consider Johnny Depp as Freddy in the new Nightmare (that would return him to the genre & the movie that got him started back in 1984)...just a thought...keep making these awsome movies boys, my favorite part about horror movies is the blood & gore, and you guys sure put alot of that into your movies...lol. |

Hey Brad where is this Friday the 13th imagery that's going to blow us away? Where is it? You said that it would be up after the holidays. Well it's the 16th of January, the holidays are long gone and I'm growing impatient. |
 | AceMan 7:59pm, January 23, 2009
Brad, I must say that I am truly excited to see this film. Being a true F13 fan, I keep replaying the trailer over & over because I can't wait until Feb 13th. When I first heard rumors about this film I had hoped it would release on my birthday Friday March 13th, 2009 so I could book the theater and have a KILLER party. By the way, to the comment on too much sex & drugs remember are why poor Jason drowned(so we think)in the first place. So of course its in the film and the more sex & drugs the more fuel to Jasons' rage. Cinema has come a long was since the original 1980 release, SEX SELLS. Taking pieces from 1-4 was an awesome idea. I have friend whom has never seen the original and our theater is showing it the night before this release which should help the film. How would U make a sequel to this film though? This film will do great. I am a walking advertisement and making sure of it. Keep up the good work Mr. Fuller. |
 | g1ng3rsnap9ed 2:15pm, February 1, 2009
Okay, I have a LOT to get off of me chest with you greedy, money-hungry bastards.
I made this account specifically for the occasion.
First off, haven't you prematurely ended enough Horror franchises TCM, F13, and now A Nightmare On Elm Street?
Not only this, but Robert Englund will not be replaying Freddy!!? If you remake ANOES, that is one thing, but
an actor other than Robert Englund playing Freddy Krueger!!? That is downright blasphemous!!!
There is no need for the original Nightmare to be remade, it has aged elegantly, and holds up
even to today's standards. (Which actually are quite low, due to talentless hacks like you.)
However, since for whatever reason you feel the urge to do so, ($$$) just give the fans
Robert Englund as Freddy. If not as Freddy, give him at least ten minutes of screen time in a
cameo or whatever. If not, then I swear to God that I will start the greatest cinematic boycott ever known against your film. Me and my friends will do whatever we can in our power to prevent your films from making money, boycotts, posting spoilers in the anticipation Threads on theinternet, anything that can possibly take that extra 8 bucks away from you. So please, for the love of the fans, (And for your love of money.) let Robert Englund play Freddy.
If not, then I hope that anybody and everybody and their entire families at platinum deuche (OOPS! That's not a Typo!!) rot in Hell you talentless, greedy, selfish, money-hungry low-life hacks. |
 | AceMan 7:57am, February 13, 2009
Brad, saw the film and was kinda disappointed. My buddy and I kind of created our own idea on how the movie would unfold, guessed the opening and Amanda's group to the "T". Don't want to spoil film but I would love the opportunity to send you what a true fan of this film expected to see. Don't get me wrong, it has many positive aspects but when a packed house left at the films ending, really had nothing to talk about. I was only 8-years old when my older sister decided to sneak me into the original film back in 1980 cuz she was stuck babysitting. I was hooked from that point. Back in 6th grade, my drama teacher called my parents in for a meeting cuz we were broken into groups to write, star and develop props for our very own stage play and as the leader developed a Friday the 13th play(I know, impossible but remember just a sixth grader). My point? That is how big of a fan I am. Yes, I had high expectations for this film and bragged how it was ingenious from a marketing standpoint (being a Marketing Director, myself) to reintroduce the franchise to a whole new batch of screamers that have virgin eyes for this horror icon. As mentioned in an earlier comment above, accompanied soe friends to view the original as our cinema was showing it just before the Midnight showing of your film. I was surprised to see almost 3/4 of the seats full with 17-25 year old males & females that wanted to see where the remake was coming from. Had a real opportunity to blow them away, but gave them something just OK. Won't give away the ending but of course it was expected. Movie is projected to do 30-35 million by Tues. I spent $12.75 x 6 (invited friends)to the film cuz I wanted them to see why I have loved this franchise for over 20-years. I know you worked hard on this film for almost two years and it was a decent film. Yet, wouldn't you prefer to deliver a "great" film that leaves people talking? The Scream franchise comes second to this one on my list of horror movies. You had a real chance to tie in some twists that would have blown the crowd away and screaming for more, then called all there friends and would have been repeat customers. 30 million could have easily been 40-45 million opening weekend and new fans panting for more. Would love to send my notes. Respectfully,
AceMan |
