Rob Zombie's Halloween (review #1, #2), despite being destroyed by critics, is on track to gross a record-breaking $23-$26 million during the four-day Labor Day weekend as this past Friday it scored an estimated $11 million, according to Box Office Mojo. In addition to this news, inside you'll find our THIRD review for the film, this time a semi-positive one from B-D reporter SpookyDan. Read on and don't forget about our Legion of Michael contest.

Halloween Revew by: SpookyDan Wow, I am almost at a loss for words on this one. Zombie has a big chore here recreating and re-envisioning one of the best horror films ever created. For what it’s worth, I consider the original to be a perfect film. Now to take this new one and review it is tricky. I did like the film, quite a bit. But this movie has it’s problems, like the lack of reason for Michael to hunt down his sister, and its overly long run time. The first two thirds of the movie is the genesis, and the best part, then the last third is a re-imagining of the original Halloween. Zombie pulls out all the stops to bring us a fresh take on the franchise. This is by and far one of the best entries. Full of nudity and gore and containing some of the most violently intense sequences put to film! Thumbs up for the boobs and lots of em!!! Danielle Harris gives a fearless performance with this film, doing the majority of her scenes bloody and topless. Malcolm McDowell as Loomis, does adequately here, but you can see why his career has lead him down path of direct to DVD shit. His performance is well crafted, yet screams of low rent. As if he lost his ability to play it down for cinema, very TV like in its delivery. Michael Meyers young and old... Both fine both not very scary, but both VERY violent!! I bought them hook line and sinker. These two cats let the blood flow! Ken Foree Steals the movie with his role as trucker in a truck wash, being the sort of comic relief through his scenes. A noticeably weird thing is the cherub like faces the younger cast has and contrasting to the wrinkly and cracked faces of the older part of the cast. Save for Sherrie Moon who is hot and doesn't fit either afore mentioned characteristics. The film looks amazing from start to finish; every frame could be a publicity shot or poster on the shelf at Spencer’s gifts. It looks just plain beautiful. By now you have seen the new mask, and it is the best one in the franchise this thing is just plain scary. Oddly by being so scary looking it takes away from the earlier animal like feel that Michael always had. Now and this whole movie supports this, Michael is a person, he talks, he smiles, occasionally has a consciences... Not the eyes of pure evil. A few unintentional laughs through as we meet every horror character actor ever put to film. Each time taking us out of the movie and cheering for them. Also, The sudden arrival of the grown up Michael is funny, because he went from a fat kid to a WWE sized giant. Zombie has a weird fixation on food in this film, and does a strange task of always making food and eating a disgusting ritual. But overall the film is a worthy entry into the legacy of the much beloved franchise. Worth your money and worth you time. Even the most hardcore horror fans will walk out speechless. Both out of respect and love of the first and then out of the sheer amount of balls it took for Zombie to make this film. Here is where I have to compare it to the original. Carpenters = masterpiece... Zombies = good film.
