Creepshow III (review): HBO This third installment in the George Romero/Stephen King-launched anthology series features five new tales of horror: "Professor Dayton," "Alice," "Rachel the Call Girl," "The Radio," and "The Haunted Dog." A bastardization of the Creepshow legacy, part III arrives as a footnote in the franchise and a prime example of bankrupt filmmaking. Curse of the Zodiac: Lionsgate Inspired by the true story of the Serial Killer who terrorized Northern California during the sixties and seventies, The Zodiac’s use of cryptic symbols and coded messages fueled the police and media frenzy and made him one of America's most notorious unsolved cases. Ulli Lommel’s back with what is assured to be a very different take on the notorious tale of The Zodiac. Gothic Vampires From Hell: Eclectic/Music Video Distributors The band "Gothic Vampires From Hell" knew the music business was tough, but they didn't know that it was that tough! When they meet sexy record executives at Gotham Records they thought they might be sharks, but what they really turned out to be were blood sucking vampires! The Kovac Box: First Look When David arrives in an idyllic Mediterranean island for a conference, his fiancee receives a strange call and jumps to her death from their hotel balcony. Rob Schmidt’s entry in the MOH anthology takes a burning social issue and manages to make an entertaining film—a feat some other MOH veterans failed miserably at. Pan’s Labyrinth: New Line (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK) In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world. This week’s pick is a no-brainer. Guillermo Del Toro's masterpiece is likely the most important genre film since SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Raiders of the Dammed: Image Their bodies are rotting corpses, but their minds are still hideously alive! In the final days of World War III, an unleashed biochemical weapon rendered earth a post-apocalyptic wasteland overrun by cannibalistic zombies. The Perfect Marriage: Lionsgate The beautiful and ambitious Annie discovers that her charming and seductive lover, Brent, has conned her into killing her husband only to steal away her inheritance. They’re Playing with Fire: Starz/Anchor Bay Drive-in goddess and ‘80s action queen Sybil Danning stars as a lusty college professor who seduces a naïve student as part of a sordid plot to frame him for the murder of her wealthy in-laws. The Thirst (review): Starz/Anchor Bay Welcome to an urban underworld of pleasure and pain where flesh-fueled slaughter is the ultimate high. Matt Keeslar of and Clare Kramer of star as a pair of recovering drug addicts recruited by a clan of sex & gore crazed vampires led by the charismatic madman Darius. But as each depraved ‘fix’ leads them deeper into hell, what will be the final price for the most horrific addiction of all? An interesting if blatantly derivative vampire flick from the crew that brought you ALL SOULS DAY. ------------------------ Horror in your House May 8, 2007 By: Tex Massacre Arang: Tartan A veteran female detective, So-Young, and her rookie assistant are investigating a recent series of bizarre murders. Cadaverella: Brain Damage Writer-director Timothy Friend's decidedly wicked version of the classic Cinderella tale substitutes horror for happily ever after. It’s only after they uncover a strange horned skull amongst the artifacts that they become aware of the evil they have unleashed. Night of the Werewolf: Deimos/BCI Eclipse Filmed in the real castles of Spain, The Night of the Werewolf is one of Paul Naschy's most impressive films, a sumptuous Gothic feast that pits Naschy's werewolf, Waldemar Daninsky, against the Blood Countess herself, Elizabeth Bathory. Swamp Zombies: Brain Damage When the federal government takes over his hospital, Dr. Phillips is forced to abandon his radical experiment to resurrect the dead and hastily dispose of his test subjects. Problem is, his experiment works, and soon, his "subjects" rise from the dead to wreak havoc on the nearby swamplands. Vengeance of the Zombies: Deimos/BCI Eclipse Zombies, satanic voodoo rituals and gruesome killings combine to make Vengeance of The Zombies a bizarre ride in the best horror tradition.
