Horror in your House—February 27, 2007 By: Tex Massacre Autopsy: Blue Underground A pathology med student and a priest team up to investigate a wave of suicides blamed on sun spots and discover a number of them to be actual murders. Blue Underground re-releases this Italian horror classic from director Armondo Crispino The Bride and the Beast/The White Gorilla: VCI When Laura and Dan get married, she's more interested in Dan's gorilla. It's revealed through hypnosis that she was Queen of the Gorillas in a previous incarnation. The first set of features from VCI’s Positively No Refunds Double Feature line features a pair of killer Gorilla flicks. Chainsaw Sally: Shock-O-Rama/POPcinema (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK) A young woman, traumatized after witnessing the murder of her parents as a young girl, grows up to be a serial killer whom gets her inspiration for killing from horror films. Original Leatherface Gunner Hansen swings the saw one more time as the ill fated father of little Sally who later utilizes that same instrument to exact her own brand of vengeance on the slime of her small town. Godfather of Gore Herschell Gordon Lewis also appears. City of the Living Dead: Blue Underground A reporter and a psychic race to close the Gates of Hell before All Saints Day after the suicide of a clergyman caused them to open, allowing the dead to rise from the grave. Italian gore guru Luci Fulci’s classic zombie film gets the re-issue treatment again this week. Count Dracula: Dark Sky Jess Franco's version of the Bram Stoker classic has Count Dracula as an old man who grows younger whenever he dines on the blood of young maidens. Christopher Lee stars in one of more accessible films from Spanish exploitationeer Franco. Deep Red: Blue Underground A musician witnesses the murder of a famous psychic, and then teams up with a feisty reporter to find the killer while evading attempts on their lives by the unseen killer bent on keeping a dark secret buried. Arguably Director Dario Argento’s first true masterpiece, Deep Red gets a re-release and includes the rarely heard Italian language track added on for a bonus. Devil’s Highway: Image Full of road-weary travelers with secrets to keep and lies to tell, a gritty tour bus follows a sun-baked desert highway. But one fiendish spirit rides among them with a brutal plan to cull the passengers, one life at a time. Shane Brolly (UNDERWORLD) and Natassha Malthe (BLOODYRAYNE II) star Don’t Torture a Duckling: Blue Underground A reporter and a promiscuous young woman try to solve a series of child killings in a remote southern Italian town that's rife with superstition and distrust of outsiders. Another Lucio Fulci giallo gets back on store shelves thanks to the crew at “Blue” Dreamland: Image Stranded in the Nevada Mountains between Las Vegas and Reno in the desolate and radiation-poisoned nuclear testing grounds of Dreamland, young couple Megan and Dylan stop in a greasy spoon cafe where they learn about the infamous "Area 51" secret government base a few miles away. After they get back on the road the car dies, and Megan, Dylan and their broken-down Lincoln are left alone in the dark, desolate desert. Out of the night, a visitor appears in the rear window of the car... a visitor from another moment in time. Not to be confused with the Agnes Bruckner starrier release last year, this one come from HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES Sound Editor James P. Lay The God Memoirs: SRS Cinema Alone and isolated in an uncompromising world, one man's quest for understanding and reason pushes him to the limits of sanity. In trying to navigate a life that is decaying with paranoia, hallucinations and delusions, violence emerges; but is this violence in the name God or an ingrained instinct of family. Something of a departure from the folks at SRS Cinema, who usually go for the more obvious horror and exploitation? This could be worth a look if it exceeds the usual fast food budgetary constrictions of their standard releases. Inferno: Blue Underground The second film in the “Three Mothers Trilogy” has a American college student in Rome, and his sister in New York investigating a series of killings in both locations where their resident addresses are the domain of two covens of witches. Argento’s follow-up to SUSPIRIA loses some of the fantasy but not the Grand Guignol scale. The Legend of Bloody Jack: Asylum You're a naughty one, Bloody Jack! Thought to be merely an urban legend, the fearsome Jack proves he's all too real when a family member manages to return him to the corporeal world. Who will be Bloody Jack's next victim? Keep your eyes open...or you might just lose them! Finally, a feature film from short film maverick and frequent Steve Odenkerk conspirator Todd Portugal (BAT THUMB, THUMBTANIC and THE BLAIR THUMB). One Missed Call 1 & 2 (4-disc set): Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters Cell phones may not be responsible for causing cancer, but they're certainly deadly in this pair of Japanese horror films. Fans of the J-horror tradition will not be disappointed by these movies directed by Takashi Miike and Renpei Tsukamoto. Prayer Beads (2-disc set): Dark Sky CGI/SFX master Masahiro Okano presents this disturbing and graphically shocking horror anthology, whose nine creepy chronicles of bad karma and nightmare logic are bound to a string of Prayer Beads. The Return: Universal a traveling business woman, begins having nightmares of a murder that occurred 15 years ago. Soon she is drawn to an old farmhouse, where the murder took place. Sarah Michelle Geller returns (pun intended) to the world of PG-13 horror. God only knows why Sam Shepard agreed to be in this. Shock: Blue Underground A couple is terrorized in their new house haunted by the vengeful ghost of the woman's former husband who processes her young son. Former Argento flame (and mother of daughter Asia) Daria Nicolodi stars in one of the last films from acclaimed filmmaker Mario Bava. DVD features interviews with the master’s son Lamberto (DEMONS) Synesthesia: ADV Films Mari suffers from synesthesia, a rare disorder that mixes up the senses. She’s lived a sheltered life, but when her adoptive parents die mysteriously, Mari’s condition may hold the key to catching a dangerous serial killer. Now she and Shinsuke, another synesthete, must catch the killer before Mari becomes his next victim. Vegas Vampires: CodeBlack/Vivendi Visual Ent. Las Vegas is the setting for this horror tale, which sees a gang of vampires besetting the citizens of the gambling Mecca and causing havoc for the local police force. “Tiny” Lister stars in this undead flick from Fred “The Hammer” Williamson (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN)
