'Hellraiser' Remake a Reboot and Not a Remake

Just like Dimension Films did with Rob Zombie's Halloween, the plan for their relaunch of their Hellraiser franchise is more of a reboot than an actual remake. What concerns me is what goes on behind the scenes as stories lead me to believe the Wesinteins are doing what's best for their pockets and not what's bet for the franchise. Pascal Laugier's Martyrs might have been incredible, but what can he do when his hands are tied? Not everyone has the power (or balls) to tell Bob and Harvey to shove off.

From Dark Horizons: Hellraiser"French director Pascal Laugier ("Martyrs") says his upcoming "Hellraiser" will NOT be a remake but a 'reboot' according to an interview with FilmsActu that was translated by 'Antoine'. Mixing elements from both the first film and Clive Barker's original "The Hellbound Heart" novella, both the characters of Frank and Julia will be present. The first draft of the script, written in French, is finished and is being translated in English. Laugier, who admits he turned down an offer to direct "The Strangers" sequel, will then start to write the first draft of the adaptation of China Mieville's short story "Details" for Paramount Vantage." Let's only hope that the Weinsteins let Pascal deliver what he feels is the right type of movie -- but truth be told we all know what's really going to happen....
