The prequel, which shoots this April in Bulgaria, goes back to the farm to finally learn the story of John Rollins -- the simple North Dakota farmer, struggling to save his farm and hold his family together. When he places a mysterious scarecrow in his field his luck changes for the better...but it may be at the cost of his sanity. Read on for the casting breakdown. [JOHN ROLLINS] – appears to be 33 years old, CAUCASIAN, married his high school sweetheart after she got pregnant and is still madly in love. He’s a good Christian man struggling to keep his corn farm from being overrun by flocks of crows. An accident in the barn leads to his discovery of an old, scary-looking scarecrow that John decides to put in the field despite his young son's urgings to destroy it. As his crops suddenly flourish, his mind and home life begin to disintegrate. LEAD STAR NAMES ONLY [MARY ROLLINS] – appears to be 30 years old, CAUCASIAN, John's wife. They married young after Mary got pregnant and are still madly in love. Stressed by the lack of money and the failing crop, Mary supports her husband with affection and patience. The harder she tries, the more John slips further from her -- ceasing to attend church and starting to drink. She begins to fear him and must protect their family as he lashes out in unnexpected and violent ways. Lindsey gets worried about her parent’s relationship with the financial troubles on the farm. Although her father tries to reassure her, Lindsey senses something is wrong. As the corn crop begins to flourish, she blames her father for sacrificing family for his fields and fears what he may do next. When he sees the scarecrow for the first time, he begins to cry, telling his father that it is a bad thing that must be destroyed. Even though he is the youngest member of the family, Michael might just be the one who could save them. Jude strikes an immediate friendship with John and encourages him to put out the ugly scarecrow. Jude offers guidance when things start turning bad.
