SDCC '08: Brief Chat With 'Underworld' Star Rhona Mitra
Posted: July 30, 2008 @ 3:24am

The San Diego Comic Con is so hectic that we rarely get more than three-minutes to chat one-on-one with a filmmaker, or star. Such the case with Rhona Mitra, who will topline Sony Screen Gems' Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, which arrives in theaters January 23rd. Inside you can read BC's brief, albeit hilarious chat with the star who talks about her role and the possibilities of returning in a sequel. Click here for all Comic Con coverage. ...Read More

SDCC '08: Joe Harris Announces Two New Projects
Posted: July 29, 2008 @ 8:35pm

Announced at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con were two new books from writer Joe Harris (Slingers and Bishop: The Last X-Man for Marvel), which will be published by Oni Press. Newsarama reports that the first is a five-issue series called GHOST PROJECT that features art by Steve Rolston. The story takes place in the former Soviet Union and revolves around the idea that during the Cold War, the Soviets experimented with all sorts of weapons of mass destruction, including the supernatural. It’s due in late 2009 or early 2010. His second project, THE HASHISHIAN, is an original graphic novel with art by Trevor McCarthy. Harris said the name comes from a sect of assassins during the Crusades who were sent out to perform assassinations “drugged out of their minds,” Harris said. Harris responds to the projects on his official blog. Click here for all Comic Con coverage.

SDCC '08: Report From the 'Twilight' Panel
Posted: July 28, 2008 @ 11:50pm

At this year's San Diego Comic Con one of the biggest shockers for me was how hot Summit Entertainment's Twilight was. I'm excited purely because I love director Catherine Hardwicke, but apparently the book is HUGE and the fangirls were on hand screaming, yelling and fighting to be the first to see footage from the adaptation. SpookyDan sends in a report, that includes a brief interview with Hardwicke and star Stephenie Meyer. The film is about a high school girl named Bella falls in love with a vampire. The new couple leads a rival vampire clan to pursue them and attempt to force her to decide if she, too, wishes to become one of the undead. Read on for the skinny. SDCC '08: Mr. Disgusting Reviews 'Ghostbusters' Game Demo
Posted: July 28, 2008 @ 4:18pm

My geek moment at this weekend's San Diego Comic Con was getting to play Sony and Activision's GHOSTBUSTERS video game, which arrives on all platforms this October. I had the chance to play it for a pretty long time and decided to write up my thoughts on the game and play style, which can be found inside. Too bad the panel was canceled because Dan Aykroyd decided not to show up (boo!) ...Read More

SDCC '08: Robert Englund Cameo in 'Elm Street' Remake?
Posted: July 28, 2008 @ 4:04pm

Some fun back-and-forth love at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend as A Nightmare on Elm Street remake news heated up. Platinum Dunes revealed to Bloody-Disgusting that they have yet to reach a deal with New Line Cinema to remake the film, but still, Englund says if they remake the film, he'd love to make an appearance. Dunes Producer Brad Fuller's response? "We'd love to have him!" So even if there's a new Freddy Krueger, maybe we'll still get a sweet cameo from the legend himself. Wesley Strick was recently signed on to pen the remake, which centers on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burnt face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

SDCC '08: Mezco 'The Wolfman' Toy Hidden
Posted: July 28, 2008 @ 3:53pm

Very, very small news here, but equally important. While walking the floor of the San Diego Comic Con for the final time, we came across something really interesting. At the Mezco toy booth they had a red curtain covering a figure saying "The Wolfman". I asked if I could see and they told me Universal told them they couldnt show it, and apparently there's something shown that would ruin the movie. Either way, we can look forward to something cool from Mezco soon.

SDCC '08: Craven on Remakes, Elm Street and More!
Posted: July 27, 2008 @ 6:35pm

During an interview with Wes Craven to promote his upcoming film 25/8, the writer-director updates reporters on the status on a bunch of his projects. First, he has not been approached for the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET REMAKE, which Platinum Dunes has also yet to sign for. The remake to PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS is likely and could be his next project - there is no take on the next film yet. A SHOCKER remake could one day happen, but not likely. On a sequel to 25/8 is tells us that it was planned as a stand alone film, like ELM STREET, but jokes "not everyone is dead at the end of the film."

The film directed by Joe Johnston looks oddly reminiscent of BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, with rich, lush sets... and Anthony Hopkins. In the clip we see Benecio covered in ripped clothes, and a severed body with entrails. Emily Blunt joked about hanging out with gazelles for inspiration, while Benicio talked a bit about finding real inspiration. "We took it back to the convention of the original Lon Chaney film."
