Apparently the buzz was true, Sony Screen Gems is setting their sights on remaking Tom Holland's classic '80s flick, Fright Night, which starred Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Roddy McDowall and Stephen Geoffreys. According to STYD executive producer Scott Strauss (who may or may not still be attached) wants to take Fright Night in a different direction - one involving an amusement park in some way. No other details were revealed, but they are currently out to writers. In the original, when a teenager learns that his next door neighbour is a vampire, no one will believe him.
Ah, the ol' "Lets remake Tourist Trap but call it House of Wax" switcheroo! Remaking Funhouse (i assume it's too soon for a Dark Ride redux) and calling it Fright Night is genius!!! Genius I say!
For the love of all that is holy, quit making freakin remakes. if i want to see it, i will watch the original, which is always better that the remake. I'm sick of it. Greedy Hollywood Bastards, put something out thats original.
the funny part is that Six Flags' halloween thing every year is named "Fright Nights"... the original was cool back in the day but its pretty laughable now, so dont get your panties in a wad over someone wanting to "update it". however, it seems like every classic horror movie ever made is going to get a remake eventually, and that is kind of retarded to me
Holy beJEEZus!
Sounds like they'll just take the name and make a completely different movie.
No vampires.
No suspense.
No good setup.
They'll cast teens from High School Musical in it and make it a PG-13 haunted theme park movie.
Can't say I'm excited about this idea, but I have to reiterate... Sony won't be making anything out of anyone's favorite movie. They'll be making a new film called FRIGHT NIGHT. It won't have any effect on the quality or the nostalgic appeal of the original.
A terrible, awful idea. I *love* the original FRIGHT NIGHT, but I have zero interest in seeing this. The idea of doing a remake -- which I don't like in the first place -- is to RE-make a movie, not to make a DIFFERENT movie. They want to go in a different direction? Set it in an amusement park? Blech. I'll pass.
