If you buy every horror movie that is released on DVD, you're a sadist. You're also going to be broke this week, with a shit ton of releases, most of which would ONLY be of interest to horror completists. But the From Beyond, Scarecrows, and The Burning releases alone should get every fan into stores this Tuesday. Read on for details on all 30+ DVDS hitting stores tomorrow!

Horror in your House
September 11, 2007
By: Tex Massacre

The Addams Family Volume 3: MGM/Fox

The Addams Family is not your typical family: they take delight in most of the things that "normal" people would be terrified of. Relive the misadventures of America’s favorite frightfully funny family.

More satirical 60’s fun with Charles Adams, creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky Tv classic.

American Cannibal: Koch

Reality television reaches a preposterous extreme in this spoof of the addictive genre. Told through reality-techniques in a sub-documentary style, AMERICAN CANNIBAL captures the journeys that two television writers take in a last-ditch attempt to find success, no matter what the cost.

Now that’s a reality show that I’d watch. First people we eat are the insipid players on Big Brother...come one…who’s with me.

April Fools: CodeBlack/Vivendi Visual

A year ago, DeAnna played a cruel April Fools' joke on nerdy Melvin that inadvertently ended in murder. Now, DeAnna, her boyfriend and her pals are being stalked by a hooded figure. Is Melvin still alive, or is someone avenging his death? It's up to one of the teens' police detective father and his partner to stop the killer before he strikes again.

Beauty Queen Butcher: Camp Motion Pictures

This CARRIE-esque horror feature centers on Phyllis, a painfully withdrawn teenage girl who has become the subject of merciless ridicule at her high school. The events escalate when Phyllis is persuaded to enter a beauty pageant, forcing her to take bloody and bitter revenge on her tormentors.

More microbudget madness from your friends over at Camp Motion Pictures. Where do they find these flicks?

Blueprint for Murder/Man in the Attic: Fox

BLUEPRINT FOR MURDER: There's no doubt that Lynne is beautiful, but could she also be deadly? This is the question her devoted brother-in-law Whitney must ask himself when first Lynne's husband (Whitney's brother) then her stepdaughter die mysteriously. Torn between love and suspicion, Whitney must act quickly to prevent more killings.

MAN IN THE ATTIC is the third adaptation of the psychological thriller, THE LODGER written by novelist Marie Belloc Lowndes in 1912. A young Jack Palance gives an outstanding rendition as the sinister-looking, secretive soft-spoken pathologist named Slade. His character plays a Jack the Ripper type and rents out a gloomy attic in the heart of London where he conducts odd experiments. All of the sudden, several women are turning up dead, all of them showgirls.

This is the first batch of MGM/Fox Midnight Movies releases. It looks like their making up for lost time, by putting out a boatload of these flicks, custom designed to drain my pocketbook…and yours.

The Burning: MGM/Fox

Years after a summer camp janitor is severely burned and disfigured as the result of a teenage prank gone awry, he's released from the local insane asylum and returns to the scene of the crime to seek revenge against those who harmed him.

Chosen Survivors/The Earth Dies Screaming: MGM/Fox

CHOSEN SURVIVORS: After being selected at random by a computer to seek safety in an underground bomb shelter on the eve of a nuclear attack, a group of refugees makes a horrible realization: They're sharing the space with a colony of vampire bats. And since going back above ground isn't an option, they're forced to stay and fight for their lives.

THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING: Upon returning home from a mission to outer space, an astronaut realizes that the Earth has been overtaken by a colony of savage alien robots who have reanimated the corpses of the dead to do their dirty work. With few human survivors left, he must mount a counterattack to protect the planet from utter destruction.

Curse of the Black Dahlia: Crystal Entertainment

In 1947, a body—cut in half—is found in an abandoned Hollywood lot. Today, an office building with a marketing firm stands upon the infamous crime scene. When a group of employees are forced to work late to complete a project, terror ensues. Is the building haunted, or is there a new murderer in their midst? It's up to Jennifer, the company's project manager, to find out before her entire group meets a grisly end.

Amazing…this must be like the 10th Black Dahlia movie and they all suck! At least Fincher got Zodiac right.

Cursed/Dark Water: Dimension

CURSED:A werewolf loose in Los Angeles changes the lives of three young adults who, after being mauled by the beast, learn that the only way to break the curse put upon them is to kill the one who started it all!

DARK WATER: Life becomes a living nightmare for Dahlia Williams and her daughter when their new apartment begins to take on a life of its own.

A double disc re-release from Dimension for two films that weren’t worth owning the first time around.

Dark Water/The Princess Blade: ADV Films

This two-pack from ADV Films brings together the best thrills and chills from today’s Japanese cinema! DARK WATER is the basis for the Hollywood horror film starring Jennifer Connelly. PRINCESS BLADE is the story of a ruthless warrior princess on a path of revenge against the leader of her ninja clan.

See the original DARK WATER here and skip the lame U.S. remake above.

Devils of Darkness/Witchcraft: Fox

DEVILS OF DARKNESS: A writer is at a loss for words when he uncovers a cult of bloodthirsty Satan worshippers led by a charismatic vampire living underneath a cemetery in the French countryside. Can he curb these insatiable beasts on their quest for human sacrifice, or will he join their long list of innocent victims?

WITCHCRAFT: When her grave is disturbed by greedy land developers, a vengeful witch who was burned at the stake some 300 years ago rises again to terrorize the descendants of the family who killed her.

The Evading: York

Depressed and delusional over the death of his wife, Josh Carter imagines that he is being pursued by a haunting caped figure. As this nightmarish chase continues, Josh suspects the monster was involved in his wife's deadly car accident. It isn't long before Josh wonders if the pursuer is actually an otherworldly messenger sent to warn Josh of his own fate

Trippy concept. I wonder if they pulled it off?

The Fly Collection (THE FLY, RETURN OF THE FLY, CURSE OF THE FLY): Fox

THE FLY: Scientist André Delambre has invented a matter transporter. To perfect his machine, he decides to test the device on a human subject -- himself. He steps into the chamber unaware that an ordinary housefly has accompanied him. His head and arm become horrifically switched with those of the fly.

RETURN OF THE FLY: Years after his scientist father met a unique and gruesome end as a grotesque man-fly hybrid; Philippe Delambre is determined to carry on his dad's dubious work. With the help of his uncle François, Philippe re-creates his father's matter transmission device. But the machine still has a few bugs in it. Philippe soon finds himself sharing his father's fate with horrifying results in this classic sci-fi sequel.

CURSE OF THE FLY: The third installment of the classic Fly series, this sci-fi adventure follows Henri Delambre a man determined to continue his deceased father's experiments to create a teleportation machine. Unfortunately for the scientist, his new daughter-in-law, a woman who secretly escaped from a mental institution, displays a bothersome curiosity about his secret research.

Is it just me or seeing the title RETURN OF THE FLY, make me want to break out into Misfits songs?

The Food of the Gods: MGM/Fox

On a remote island, a farmer discovers a strange, gooey substance that causes animals to grow rapidly. His problems begin when the creatures get hungry - they prefer human flesh. Based on H.G. Wells' novel of 1904.

Where’s the 2-disc special edition with the horrendous sequel (GNAW—FOOD OF THE GODS II)…come on baby, that’s the only way anyone is ever gonna pay for it. Give the fans what they really want!

From Beyond: MGM/Fox

Out-there scientist Dr. Pretorious and his assistant, Dr. Tillinghast are working towards breaking through earthly perceptions and revealing a new alternate universe. They do this by stimulating the pineal gland of the human brain, which enables people to see the strange creatures that inhabit a parallel dimension. Unfortunately, these creatures can now see humans as well, and they are none too pleased with it. Dr. Pretorious is killed by the floating monstrosities, but the police blame his assistant for the murder and lock him up. Only Dr. Katharine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) believes the insane tales of Dr. Tillinghast, and it's up to her to shut down the experiment that threatens to unleash the other-dimensional creatures on this universe forever.

Ah….Stuart Gordon does Lovecraft. All is right with the world.

Gorilla at Large/Mystery on Monster Island: MGM/Fox

GORILLA AT LARGE: After a man turns up dead at a peculiar carnival, police suspect Goliath, the world's largest—and angriest—gorilla. But as more killings ensue, it soon becomes clear that nearly everyone in the carnival has motives for murder.

MYSTERY ON MONSTER ISLAND: A group of shipwreck survivors find themselves stranded on a bizarre remote island in this low-budget offering loosely based on Jules Verne's Mysterious Island. When a young man sets sail for a last adventure around the world before marrying, he and his fellow travelers wind up discovering amazing natural beauty and a fortune in gold -- not to mention prehistoric beasts and cutthroat bandits.

The Haunting of #24: MTI

John Hare has always had bad dreams, but nothing's prepared him for the terror that awaits him when he moves into apartment No. 24, where the horrific noises outside his door are most certainly real. Despite the grim warnings of his cuckoo neighbor, John stays put in his new digs, and his nightmares only grow worse.

The House of Usher: ThinkFilm

In this retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale, Izabella Miko plays Jill Michaelson, a woman whose lover and best friend (a pair of brother-sister twins) vanish from her life -- only to reenter it when one of them dies. When Jill travels to their New England town for the funeral, she soon learns that the brother suffers from the same malady that killed his sister, and Jill herself begins to feel the haunting effects of her friend's spirit.

This version of HOUSE OF USHER really ups the incest factor. Oh and the MTV factor too.

House on Hooter Hill: Secret Key

Glori-Anne Gilbert stars in this flick from the gang that brought you the classic, WITCHES OF BREASTWICK and BREASTFORD WIVES! Bring them on…you know what I mean.

The House on Skull Mountain/The Mephisto Waltz: Fox

THE HOUSE ON SKULL MOUNTAIN: When the relatives of a recently deceased voodoo priestess gather at her sinister house on Skull Mountain for the reading of the will, they discover a killer in their midst who wants to keep them from collecting their inheritance.

THE MEPHISTO WALTZ: A music journalist scores the interview of a lifetime when a terminally ill piano virtuoso agrees to talk to him. But the opportunity doesn't come cheap—the price is giving up his soul. Although the writer's wife suspects something's wrong, she has no idea her husband's been possessed.

The Lost World (1960) Fox

An eccentric scientist returns from the Amazon with news of a distant plateau where creatures from the dawn of time still prowl the jungle. To prove his story, he gathers a team of explorers, including a journalist a playboy-adventurer, a beautiful socialite and a pilot with a secret plan of revenge. But an unexpected attack on their camp leaves the group stranded in a world of dinosaurs and other exotic creatures, where humans are no longer the lords of the earth they are helpless prey.

This special edition also contains the badass 1925 silent version as well. Double up on Dino-fun!

MGM Movie Scream Legends: Vincent Price (THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES, DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN, MADHOUSE, TALES OF TERROR, THEATER OF BLOOD, TWICE TOLD TALES, WITCHFINDER GENERAL; 5-disc set): MGM/Fox

Seven films and a bonus disc which includes "Vincent Price: Renaissance Man," a documentary that charts Price's influence on the horror genre, as well as two featurettes ("The Art of Fear" and "Working with Vincent Price").

NAILED: Image

Two hoodlums on the lam seek refuge in what they think is an abandoned house. But once inside, they find a sickly man whose "caretaker" appears to be the house itself! Now the two intruders are dying to escape to jail to get away from the house's sinister, horrific clutches in this psychotic, pounding nail-biter that will shock you to your core!

Phantom from 10,000 Leagues/Beast with 1,000,000 Eyes: MGM/Fox

PHANTOM FROM 10,000 LEAGUES: An unusual radioactive rock on the sea bottom mutates the ocean life into a horrible monster. When charred, radioactive bodies begin to drift ashore a scientist and government agent investigate the phenomenon, and it's connection to a local marine biology professor.

BEAST WITH 1,000,000 EYES: An alien space craft lands in the desert. The alien takes over the minds of some of the local humans and animals and is able to see through them. The animals attack and the terror begins.

Pharaoh’s Curse/Curse of the Faceless Man: MGM/Fox

PHARAOH’S CURSE: Archaeologists in Egypt find one of their crew has been turned into a blood sucking mummy after they have unleashed a three thousand year curse by entering a Pharaoh's tomb.

CURSE OF THE FACELESS MAN: After pulling the remarkably preserved body of a faceless Etruscan gladiator out of the ashes in Pompeii, two scholars -- Italian archaeologist Carlo Fiorillo and American medical researcher Paul Mallon—debate whether the body still harbors any life. But one thing is frighteningly certain: Death seems to find anyone who spends time alone with the petrified body.

Pirates of Ghost Island: Lionsgate

The celebration's over for a group of exuberant young graduates whose party cruise goes off course in a thundering storm and lands them on what they think is a deserted island. Of course, they seem to be alone. But lurking beyond the shoreline is a band of ghostly pirates who've been living there for the past 200 years.

I blame Johnny Depp for this film. Actually I blame Johnny Depp for a lot of my problems. If it wasn’t for Johnny I’d have the looks, the money and the hot French girlfriend.

The Return of Dracula/The Vampire: MGM/Fox

THE RETURN OF DRACULA: Count Dracula kills a passenger on a train in Transylvania and steals his identity. He comes to a small community in California where the Mayberrys are expecting their cousin from Europe. His strange behaviour, sleeping all day and going out at night are surprising to young miss Rachel Mayberry. A policeman from Europe comes to investigate while Rachel's best friend Jenny dies unexpectedly. And the count plans on giving Rachel the gift of eternal life.

THE VAMPIRE: Dr. Matthew Campbell has been experimenting on methods to regress the mind to primitive instincts so that we can find methods to improve our brains and not get taken in by cheap horror movie hogwash. He's developed a drug made from vampire bat blood and has begun treating himself with it. But instead of improving his mind, he's become ill and addicted. He dies, but not before trying to warn fellow doctor Paul Beecher. Fortunately for us, he dies before he can say more than that pills are to blame. While still at Campbell's house, Paul finds a bottle of pills and pockets them. He's also got another bottle of pills in his other pocket that he takes for frequent migraine attacks. He goes home, puts his jacket on a rack, and then he's struck with a migraine. He asks his daughter to give him the pills in his jacket pocket, and of course she gives him the pills of evil. He is instantly addicted and he must take one pill every day. Each time he takes a pill he turns into a hairy and very insane killer, and he doesn't remember what he's done, except as a vague dream. Can the police and the other scientists who work nearby figure out who the killer is and stop him before he kills the beauteous new nurse that he has just hired?

Return of the Living Dead: MGM/Fox

On his first day on the job at an army surplus store, poor Freddy unwittingly releases nerve gas from a secret U.S. military canister, unleashing an unbelievable terror. The gas re-animates a corps of corpses, who arise from their graves with a ravenous hunger for human brains! And luckily for those carnivorous cadavers, there is a group of partying teens nearby, just waiting to be eaten!

Uber-awesome special edition would be my pick of the week except that I’ve been waiting since like 1988 for the next film to finally show up for sale somewhere (beside the bootleg table)

Scarecrows: MGM/Fox (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

After pulling off a major heist, a group of ex-military outlaws commandeer a plane for their getaway. But when one of the group betrays them by parachuting out with the cash, the rest follow -- and find themselves in the middle of a nightmare. They take shelter in an abandoned farmhouse set in a cornfield, where sinister scarecrows soon come to life and start taking them out one by one in this spine-chilling cult classic.

See the only scarecrow film that ever mattered!!! Finally on DVD. Do you hear that one fanboys!!!

Signs/The Village: Touchstone

SIGNS: The Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, wakes up one morning to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard. Graham Hess and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch, with growing dread, the news of crop circles being found all over the world.

THE VILLAGE: An isolated, tight-knit community lives in mortal fear of an oppressive evil inhabiting the forbidden forest just beyond their tiny village. So frightening that no one ventures into the woods ... until one villager dares to face the unknown.

Another two-fer of film from the lesser-Disney lines that no one liked the first time around. Actually, I tell people that I really liked THE VILLAGE just because I know that pisses off M. Night Shyamalan fans….and who doesn’t like pissing off Night’s little buddies.

Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror: Xenon/Lionsga

Hosted by Snoop Dogg, this hip-hop horror trilogy begins with the story of a girl who tags murdering gangsters with the mark of death. Then, a greedy redneck plans to evict four retired military servicemen and suffers the veterans' grisly wrath. Finally, a rap star's bloody climb to the top leads to his retribution.

Fo-shizzle friends, Lionsgate stuck this one in the After Dark fest but gave the flick its own separate release later—so, technically this one wasn’t “to die for”. It was still pretty fly. Plus Tim Sullivan (2001 MANIACS) had a hand in scripting and that dude rocks!

Supernatural: The Complete Second Season: Warner

Twenty-two years ago, Sam and Dean lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. As a result, their father, John, raised the brothers to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it. Sam, however, wanted nothing to do with this violent and dangerous life, and he left it behind, until the day Dean appeared on his doorstep with troubling news. Their father had gone missing on a "hunting trip." Sam and Dean have spent the last year cruising the highways of the United States in their 1967 Chevy Impala, searching for their lost father and encountering creatures that most people believe exist only in folklore, superstition and nightmares. Along the way, they have battled the various supernatural threats--and each other as well, for their sibling rivalries and conflicts were never far from the surface. Finally, they found their father, just as he was closing in on the Demon who claimed their mother.

Tales from the Crypt/Vault of Horror: MGM/Fox

TALES FROM THE CRYPT: When a sightseeing trip leads them astray, a group of tourists (including the glamorous find themselves lost in an underground labyrinth where they come face to face with a monk who foretells their futures.

VAULT OF HORROR: Trapped in an office building basement, five men reveal their darkest dreams in this compilation of chilling tales pulled from the E.C. Comics archives. In "Midnight Mess," a man stumbles into a restaurant after murdering his sister, only to discover that he's surrounded by diners with an insatiable appetite for blood. But that's only one of the terrifying gems you'll find locked in the Vault of Horror.

I don’t really need to tell you that this is not HBO’s TALES FROM THE CRYPT do I? Same source material though. Check it out for some retro-anthology terrors.

Urban Gothic: Season 2: Media Link

The second series of cult classic Urban Gothic offers more bite-sized tales of terror -- from cannibal killers to the darkest of teen love stories, leading finally to the terrifying secret conspiracy behind the horrors. This unique anthology also includes an exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary, as well as further unpublished documents and footage about the Urban Gothic world. The city is still alive—and now it's hungry!

Welcome to the Grindhouse: DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE/PRIME EVIL: Deimos/BCI Eclipse

DON’T ANSWER THE PHONE: Vietnam veteran/photographer terrorizes Los Angeles by going around strangling young women in their homes while taunting psychologist Lindsay Gale by calling her radio call-in show to describe his misogynistic ways. PRIME EVIL: A group of evil monks surface in New York City sacrificing humans left and right to Lord Satan. Fortunately, a brave and determined nun infiltrates the sect in an attempt to end the immortals' demonic sacrifices.

Welcome to the Grindhouse TRIP WITH THE TEACHER/MALIBU HIGH: Deimos/BCI Eclipse

TRIP WITH THE TEACHER: How far should a teacher go to protect her students?

As Kim enters her final year at Malibu High School, she has a few problems. Her grades are poor, her boyfriend has dumped her for a snobby rich girl and her financial situation is disastrous. She makes an after hours meeting with a teacher to improve her grade point average and soon, she is working her way through the entire faculty room.

Witchfinder General: MGM/Fox

Set in 17th-century England, this chilling tale follows corrupt official Matthew Hopkins who claims an ability to discover witches. But he uses his power to gain money and favors from people he's fingered in return for declaring them innocent. When he arrests and tortures Father Lowes Lowes's niece's fiancé decides to put an end to Hopkins's sleazy practices and goes on a quest to seek vengeance.

Youngary, Monster from the Deep/Konga: MGM/Fox

YOUNGARY, MONSTER FROM THE DEEP: What first appears to be an earthquake turns out to be a monster burrowing under the Earth's surface. Feeding on raw energy, scientists believe a chemical solution may defeat the monster. Time runs out as the monster runs amok.

KONGA: Dr.Decker comes back from Africa after a year, presumed dead. During that year, he came across a way of growing plants and animals to an enormous size. He brings back a baby chimpanzee to test out his theory. As he has many enemies at home, he decides to use his chimp, 'Konga' to 'get rid of them'.
