After a rash of negative reviews, Rob Zombie's Halloween (review #1, #2, #3) remake still managed to pull in a whopping $26,503,000 this Labor Day weekend; with a budget of only $15 million that's a huge success. What's shocking is that even after such a monster opening, Bob and Harvey Weinstein doubt they'll move forward on a sequel, "I never say never never... but it would have to be something very, very different," Bob told Reuters. Is this the end of Michael Myers, or maybe Robert Englund wasn't lying when he said New Line is still working on Freddy vs Jason vs Michael?
This is bull-shit! There will be a sequel for sure! Who are they trying to fool here? As long as they make a profit they will continue to make them. Hence the Saw series, The Hills Have Eyes 2, TCM - The Beginning and the many others.
After this piece of shit can you blame him? Somehow, someway though I suspect that this is a ploy by Weinstein, Weinstein, and Zombie et. al to get a surge in viewership through a sense of finality. It had a great weekend, I have to concede. It's overall success will be determined by the rate of declination over the coming few weeks. Tymishu, you're going to be happy.....the next 50 should be up tonight for your viewing pleasure.....
I'm looking forward to it Sauron! LOL! One question though and be fair because I know that you are. Was there anything that you enjoyed? There has to be at least 1 or 2 things that you liked and don't take the easy way out and say the credits! LOL!
jesus this constant ragging from you sauron.. the movie is a success, people who saw it except for critics loved it. who cares if there is a sequel? i like this one just fine by itself.. but danielle harris's annie would still be alive if there were a sequel.. can you say "boobies"
I don't think its a good idea to end the halloween series. :(
I'd be very dissapointed! But if this movie did well at the boxoffice there has to be a sequel - i guess thats how theese things work.
ymishu, I wanted to putr the 50 up first, but since you asked, I'll give you a couple of things that I thought weren't that bad. A) Sherri Moon (believe me, I'm as shocked as anyone to admit this because many of us took turns w the whore label. She actually generated more sympathy and credibility with her clothes on. B) Daeg Fraech: kind of captured the character that ROB wrote (though I don't think that it was good as Myers). His schizoid schpiel was a weakness (that's going on the list) but overall I thought he did a pretty good job. C) Tyler Mane: for the most part, he did his job to carry the proper menace. Maybe I could see where a lot of the lovers of this movie are coming from in terms of Mane being the second-best MYERS in the franchise. NO FUCKING WAY though that this ranks even in the top 4 of the franchise AS A MOVIE. D) Danielle Harris and Boobies. Enough said. E) The one segment that I actually thought worked for the movie was the photo scene. From the POV that this is all Myers has as a link to his halcyonic past and that Laurie is desperately grasping for straws trying to understand the significance had A LOT of poential. But again, sloppy writing and really bad technical work killed something that could have been good. F) William Forsythe's mouthiness. While the dialogue was hurried and childish, the humor and trashiness of it was fairly enjoyable. A thought occurred to me yesterday while discussing this with the others who went with me to the opening. ROB would be way better served to work with some experienced industry technical people the next time he makes a movie. Much of the shitiness of this movie could be righted with a less sloppy production. ROB would still retain creative control and his vision would prevail, but I think he needs to either grow as a filmaker beyond his core set people or quit altogether. This type of filmmaking has a real short shelf-life and he could still retain artistic integrity but simply employ better technicians to craft a more cohesive product. Anyway, just a thought. The final 50 should be up later.....
I just saw it and I liked the overall atmosphere of the movie. Although it was slow in some parts i would'nt trade it in. I get the impression that Rob left alot up to interpretation than picking it apart to death. Which is what most critics do and have been doing since the scrpt hit online.
I was worried about this movie, but I saw it and loved it. Sure, it didn't hold a candle to the original but it was a different movie. I've got to hand it to Rob Zombie, he did a great job. They should keep the series going because I'm sure as much as everyone says negative stuff about this one if there were a sequel you'd go see it just like I would.
I would like to thank Rob Zombie for leaving such bad taste in the producers mouth that they have sworn off any sequels. Yes the movie made money it's first weekend, but that was mainly based on curiosity and word of mouth. Everyone who saw this liked it? Who the hell are you talking about? The reviews from fans all over are nothing but negative.
Rpb accomplished his goal. He killed the franchise once and for all. I'd love to hear what he has to say over this recent thrashing of his "good name"
This movie was terrible. Anyone who says anything positive about it in an capacity is brain-dead dumb-fuck and needs to have the shit slapped out of them. The Weinsteins don't want to make any more because they have more taste than you inbred half-wits and know they financed a really shitty travesty of a remake.
Who cares you didnt like it so what. That means it sucks just because"you" didnt like it? Thats ass backwards and closed minded.I liked it for one and when leaving the theater people were liked that kicked ass. It did kick ass.Id pay to see it again.
Sorry, it was not just the critics that didn't like it. Just take a look at all these posts, posts from other sites, and actual Halloween website masters. Oh well. It did what they wanted it to, it made good bucks over the weekend. That was expected. Just with the interest alone, that doesn't surpise me. I wish it would've turned out better, but it just DIDN'T!
Well....like i said ,it wasnt perfect, but i'd rather see it than whatever loogie hollywoods hawked out on their "Dorks are funny people too,And they can make movies" couch trip de jour.....Save for "death sentence" that seems kinda cool.....
For all those Rob lovers out there who feel bad because his movie is being trashed, go to the following site. They are interviewing the actors of Halloween and they are falling over themselves kissing Rob's butt. http://www.myspace.com/99704870. You guys won't feel so bad now. BTW, I actually like a lot of Rob's music. It is great to exercise too. A lot of it rocks! It is just his movie making that lacks. I agree that it would be a better production with better production professionals. He should also go to script writing/dialogue class. If he engages in that who knows what will happen.
really people, see it a second time, much better when you see it again. believe me, the first time i saw it friday, it was good but nothing mind-blowing. i saw it again later, wow. amazing.
Flawed movie? The original was just as flawed. I'll give you some examples of how flawed was original was. Someone in an earlier post said that Michael killed Linda in this movie just to kill her? Was she not killed in the original for no good reason? In this version, she screamed nasty things at him him while walking with Laurie and Annie. In this movie we saw, Mikey didn't like to be messed with. By the way wasn't Annie killed in Carpenter's version for no good reason? How about going away as a little boy and 15 years later not only can you somehow drive, but can also navigate highways and the town of Haddonfield that shouldn't really be remembered all too well since, I would assume he would be rather small to see out of the car. How about Loomis and the Sheriff patrolling the neighbohood all day and night, but never seeing the stolen car parked a mere few yards away with it's wheels curved outwards to the street until it was conveniant to the plot. Point is, both movies are flawed in some way. Carpenter's classic isn't without warts. By the way, didn't Carpenter take the money and run after part one. He wanted nothing to do with part two because, as we have all come to find, he has been a flop of major proportions since then. One decent film
after that... "The Thing" (a re-imagining curiously!). Halloween was easy for him because, he was inventing the genre of the slasher film with it. No where to go except to the top. No other slasher film can ever live up to that standard and Carpenter knew this. I didn't care for Zombie making Michael
sympothetic in this movie, but come on. He is after his sister for crying out loud. Carpenter didn't make Laurie
his sister until the sequel, because he too would have had one heck of time trying to explain why Michael was trying to KILL his sister in the first place had it been in his plot. By the way, I'd say another flaw. Zombie had to work around that flaw and should be commended for having the balls to even try. Can't say the same for Carpenter! I never watched a Zombie film prior to this, so I do not have a reference point, but will say he deserves a sequel, if these chicken s**t producers will pay him. I guess another pitiful sequel with actors from Dawson's creek and rapper 50 cent would please some on this site.
I thought it was a pretty damn good horror movie on its own. The "second act" kind of lagged but it served its purpose. The third act is pretty creepy if you get into it. I watched it with a group of people after drinking and I thought it was decent. Then I went back and saw it by myself and I think the people I was with is what make it seem subpar to me. When I saw it by myself and pushed the original out of my head, I thought it was pretty damn good. I heard several people say it was the best Halloween next to the original. I thought it was atmospheric, realistic (except for the over thte top white trash shit and Loomis' overacting), and genuinely creepy. Those of you that won't stop bitching went into the movie wanting to hate it, and guess what? You ended up hating it. Go figure. Thorn sucks ass.
There have been so many different rumors about the Freddy VS Jason sequal. If done right and with the right plot, Freddy Vs Jason Vs Michael could work, but its a stretch
Freddy VS Jason was nothing but a spit in the face for the people who liked those franchises. It was hooky, lame, and garbage. It's a guilty pleasure at best! If they do a Freddy Vs Jason Vs Myers...that would be worst then any damage a director could do with a remake. If that comes out and it's successful? Be prepared for Chucky Vs Myers! LOL! Could you imagine that? Or Pinhead Vs Ash Vs Leatherface! They'll keep doing them over and over! There is no need for these movies at all!
Well i work at a movie theater and everyone that has seen it has liked the movie, so the ppl that say everyone hates it dose not know what they are talking about! And J-SYXX why dont you come try to slap the shit out of me!!!
Yeah, the original had flaws a plenty...someone actually trips on a dolly track, and its kept in the movie (PJ Soles),no one notices a government issued vehicle is stalking a boy at a school? obviously, some things are petty and needed for the story's sake but it's fun to nitpick sh*t now and then.......Btw,anyone notice in the remake when lynda calls Laurie after getting banged in the Myers house? a cordless phone?? after like 16 years,we still have phone service in the Myers house???.....lmao maybe it was Mr."I wrote "suck it" on my arm cast"...coulda been in his name still......lol
Hey PW, I understand the original had flaws. I could probably name them fromc scene for scene. However, the story and the (rest of) the production made the movie the classic it has become. Like I said before, the original isn't a timeless classic for no reason. The movie was freaky, scary and suspenseful. My problem with the Zombie movie (I will say it again) is he stated we would really get to know the characters and it will be a freaky, scary, suspenseful movie. He lied! Zombie's version is basically just a slasher film put out because the title and the script and production was just not that good. Like I said, I liked parts, but a great movie it is not. I still think for a Halloween movie it is better than some sequels.
If you think of flaws, probably Halloween 6 is the worst as far as production value. That should've been scrapped and redone. Halloween II which I liked, continuity and the sequences are way out of whack. Oh well, such is horror. I just want to be freaked or scared.
Good I hope it does end. Franchise shouldn't have gone any further past H20 or Halloween II for that matter.
Although I enjoy the sequels to an extent, they were always unnecessary.
The remake was proven even more useless, since it offered nothing new or worthwhile to the table.
Let this franchise die.
Ok here we go. This movie was f****n' dope. Too many people are TRYING to compare it to the original and/or the other sequels. DON'T. This movie is how Zombie sees it. Some of the original he agreed with, some he didn't. Its how HE wants it. I LOVE the series, I LOVE Michael Myers, do I want their to be more? HELL YEAH! BUT, I also don't mind the way he MAY have ended it. Too many people were expecting a duplicate of the original. Zombie stated from day 1, that its NOT going to be just a remake. So why you all STILL expected this is beyond me. Another thing that bugs me, is people saying "too much blood" "not enough suspense"....GET OUT OF THE 70's! That s**t might have worked back then to scare people, but nowadays people have seen it all. What worked back then, doesn't work now. You have to evolve, and spice things up. That's what Zombie did. I give him MAD props for not only taking on this movie, but also doing a damn good job with it. I also happen to think Tyler played the perfect Myers. What would you be more scared of? a 6'0 skinny dude coming after you? or a 7'0 monster? I also liked how instead of focusing on a "supernatural" reason for killing (like the other films) Zombie portrayed Myers as just a f****n whack job. Its more believable and scarier to think this dude is just f****d up, and loves killing, then some hidden force possessing him to do it. What really pissed me off, was before I went and saw this movie, I read Mr. Disgusting review. He couldn't have been more wrong. Myers "Lacking" the stalker style? Did he even watch the damn movie? He's watching the girls as they are in the library, then following them down the street, then standing outside their houses, standing behind them in their houses.....How is that lacking? His complaint about why Sheri moon is dating a "uber old, cripple" is f*****g stupid. 1. he's not even that old and 2 he WASN'T crippled when they met. That is stated in the movie. He's not even a cripple, he just has a f*****g broken arm/hand. I don't mind people giving their opinions at all, but if you're going to bitch, at least make sure what you're bitching about isn't false. Otherwise you'll just sound retarded.....Yea.....and I mean short bus retarded.
to Dekayd,
wow you are just dumb. i like reading through people's opinions and see what their reasons are. but really you are embarrassing. do you have any ideas about basic concepts such as suspense, conflict, etc?
I don't think this movie is a comparison to the origninal, because 99.9% of the true Halloween fans know that there is NO comparison! For me it wasn't the revisioning or the story. It was the script, dialogue, and the production value. That is what did it in for me. Rob's revisioning is fine, it is the way it is presented to the general public that is the problem.
come on, guys... you have to admit it was pretty awesome when the the shatner mask was pulled out for the first time in this movie... totally caught me off guard
Just because it did good in the opening weekend doesn't mean its a good movie. In the long run its not going to be that good. But you cannot compare Rob's "revisioning" to the original.
regardless of what everyone is saying, i thought it was an awesome movie. there were some things that rob took out of the movie that i thought would've been good to keep in, but overall, i was blown away with how good it was... i was expecting much worse. and for the weinsteins to say they're not down for a sequel, well that just sucks. already, i have been coming up with an awesome continuation of rob's story along with aspects from both films' (carpenter's and rob's) that would blend together, plus just awesome ideas to play off of considering how things were left at the end of this film. bottom line, with how well this is doing at the box office, even despite how bad it's getting treated critically... i have to say that they're fucking stupid to not continue the franchise as a new beginning. hopefully, if this is so, and the weinsteins definitely don't want to do it, the rights will be available so someone else can. maybe even a company that could bring the sequel with an even fresher taste (lionsgate anyone?). anyways, that's my thoughts. everyone can yell at me now.
i cant comprehend how an amped up version of myers is worse than the joke he became over the previous years.
is rz's film groundbreaking? not at all, but what it is is a beautifully shot, brutal, and fun flick.
Simply because Mr. D asked, OK people, here we go: 51) A sweet little novel entitled "The Devil's Eyes" Oh how fucking precious. Wasn't it just such a brilliant stroke of genius for ROB to reference out a classic Pleasence line all the while "reimagining" it as a compendium of the psychology of a child serial killer. Again people, What THE F%^K movie were you watching. 52) Was this a Halloween movie or was it the A&E/Lifetime Behind-the-Scenes story of ROB Zombie's dysfuncional childhood. 53) Unless Andre the fucking Giant made a pit stop in a certain Illinois town, Michael was a litle too big for believability's sake (though Mane played it well). Which leads to 54) For a kid who refused to eat, he got big prety damn quick. 55) Nice take on Loomis givin up on the kid who's supposedly become his best friend to go make the duckets exploiting the murder of 4 innocent people. Donald Pleasence would be proud. 56) WQhat the fuck was up with Loomis being a hippie, slacker, incompetant dumbass. Again, Pleasence would be proud. 57) Loomis' REALLY bad hair day. 58) 4 guards on duty coverring a maximum security state-run hospital during the transfer of a highly publicized murderer who just happens to be 7'0/300lb. 59) For a guy who can barely walk, he got himself into REALLY good shape with superhuman strength and lightning quick reflexes (them coyotes don't go down easily there Tex) pretty quickly. 60) Michael Myers DOES NOT CRY like an ornery bitch people. Repeat that: Michael Myers DOES NOT CRY like an ornery bitch!!!!! 61) Brackett's response to his beloved daughter dying in his very hands seemed more reminiscent of an actor staring at a certain extremely hot 4'11 actress (who just happens to be topless) than a father crazed by his child's condition. Not a peep or a scream.....just scopin the boobies. 62) The two desperate attempts to recreate what many of us feel is the climactic moment in the original.....the pumpkin scene. ROB tried it twice. The hanging scarecrow deal was pathetic. The tombstone was less pathetic. Which leads to 63) Most of the weakness in this movie stems from sections where ROB tried to ape the original. Most of it didn't work and ROB would've been much better served to really do his own movie if he couldn't get it any closer han what we saw. 64) Clever little Mikey buried the mask and the murder weapon. Really dumbass police force couldn't find the central piece of evdance in the supposedly most highly publicized violence spree in state's history. 65) Three really unlikeable sluts as a "reimagining" of three really likeable characters who have probably survived the test of time exactly because they weren't simply cannon fodder. Which leads to 66) ROB really took the easy way out with the entire script making the ugly characters die and the pristine characters survive (which is ironically probably why virtually no one survived) I mean not everyone who sufers the fate of these characters deserves it as some sort of fucked up social payback to bring harmony and concordance to the emo and downtrodden. That's why it's a savage crime people. The terror stems from the innocence, not the ugliness. DUH! 67) Blood substituting for fear. 68) Brutality substituting for storytelling and 69) Boobies substituting for character development. 70) Michael Myers IS NOT a schizophrenic. He's conscious evil masquarading with a catatonic front. 71) Myers as a faceless/nameless evil (The Shape) that could emerge anytime, anywhere as opposed to Myers as a sympathetic/misunderstood/emo/headcase succumbing to instances of uncontrollable rage. Which leads to 72) Evil Has A Destiny. Last time I checked, Darth Vader hadn't legally applied for a petition of name change but you sure wouldn't notice it after sitting for 1hr and 49 min through this cinematic masterpiece. 73) What destiny? How does any of that make any sense or relate to what ROB put forth? 74) The last time someone had sex with a character wearing our beloved Shatner mask it was during an incestual S&M peep show richly attended by a forgotten cult of the druidic descendants of some stupid assed celtic rune seeking to 'breed the seed' of a certain famous horror icon. Did we really need to travel down that road again and stir up bad memories from 1995.
75) Pamela Susan Shoop=Danny Trejo..Pamela Susan Shoop=Danny Trejo...Pamela Susan Shoop=Danny Trejo....You see where I'm going with this people. If you are under 18 and haven't had the priviledge of watching a certain other Halloween sequel then I don't expect you to understand. In the water=Out of the water..In the water=Out of the water... and on and on it goes. Real original stuff here. Quite a "bold, new, innovative" direction for the horror movie industry. 76) Nobody asked where the hell the baby was about 5 min. into the search of Casa de Myers. Um yeah, wouldn't Sherri have been noticeably pregnant for oh say about 9 months, and wouldn't someone have known that there was a third child living in the house. But msteriously a baby is nowhere to be found. A dumbass, apathetic redneck is just able to swoop in and myseriously whisk away little Laurie strode undetected by oh say the 20-30 law enforcement officials that were converging on the scene. Nobody cared to ask after-the-fact. Nice continuity work there Robbie. 77) Michael Myers does not feel up his older siser. That shit was just sick. 78) Can anybody who's a an of the original HONESTLY say that THIS Loomis was an improvement over Pleasence. On one hand we have a quiet/tortured/dignified/lone voice in the dark whose life's work becomes the surpression of evil. On the other we have a sarcastic/lazy/poorly-groomed/incompetant huckster who apparently travels 150 miles to cover his a%s. 79) Pleasence was written as the earnest, dilligent, tireless conscience dedicating his life to reaching and then confining the boogeyman. McDowell was written as a half-assed salaried employee jumping ship at the first chance which is beautifully summed up by "this'll be my last visit Michael. yada yada yada" What a wonderful "revision." Is everyone in a position of authority a worthless slacker in ROB Zombie's world? 80) Dee Wallace Stone and Pat Skipper about to get intimate by the fire. That shit is just wrong on so many levels. 81) Like I said before, this "reimagining" is more reminiscent of Ron Howard's "reimagining" of 'The Grinch' than 'The Dawn of the Dead.' Big, bloated, and bloody (disgusting that is). 82) When exactly was this movie supposed to take place? A very confusing timeline to say the least...83) Paul Greengas actually got nauseous at the premiere. Chock one up to the Zombster. 84) Michael Myers DOES NOT keep pet rodents for freaky assed/twisted shit entertainment value...Nor does 85) Michael Myers dissect said rodents for feaky assed/twisted shit/fetishistic entertainment value. Nor does Michael Myers masteurbate to said freaky-assed twisted shit, but hey since it was excised from the script we can let that one go. That doesn't mean that ROB didn't want to put it in the script. Someone had the good sense to push the pause button on ROB's unrestrained creative "vision" with that one. Mercifully. 86) "Driller Killer" followed by 87) "look at the dumper on your daughter" followed by 88) "I did all the heavy lifting" followed by 89) "That was some real faggoty-assed shit there" followed by 90) "I WANNA GO HHOOOMMMMEEEEE!!!!!" 91) Malek Akkad, as the caretaker of this franchise, trying desperately to cash in on the spineless Hollywood flavor-of-the-month remake fad raping our beloved masterpiece to further his own ambition. As well as...92) Malek Akkad pathetically trying to curry favor by choosing a celebrity with little filmmaking credibility and an even shorter scriptwriting resume and then setting up a Myspace feeding-frenzy by a bunch of pathetic preteen sychphants desperately trying to get their avatar on that special "ROB'sFriends" list by blindly singing the praises of a filmmaker who has not paid his dues. 93) As I said before...you don't see many bands trying to cover "Stairway to Heaven" who have a career the next day. A certain someone probably should've taken a lesson from the industry that he did pay his dues in. 94) The complete lack of objectivity by independent horror resources that should've seen the proverbial writing on the wall and raised the alarm as to why the hell this movie needed to be "reimagined" in the first place. THIS site at least had the conscience and the honor to tell it like it was at the end. Let's all try to think back to how 'Fangoria' was salivating all over the industry floor so to speak when Camp Zombie doled out the favors of candy kisses and breaking exclusives in exchange for positive, glowing buzz for a project that not only hadn't earned them, but that should have been raising a few eyebrows, to say the least. 95) Rob's technical people definately need to pay for a couple of refresher courses on basic filmmaking technique 101 (continuity anyone)? 96) Way too cameo heavy (I mean, again, what was Sybill Danning required to do) 97) Loomis went down like a cheap whore. Way too disrespectful to a favorite franchise character. 98) Fucking snow in a Halloween movie. Yeah I said it before, but it was so out of line that it definately needs to get repeated again to hammer the point home. 99) Apparently the Weinsein's thought it wasn't all that as evidanced by the following quote, DESPITE THE EXTREMELY STRONG OPENING, "I never say never... but it would have to be something very, very different....." If this formula is bringing in the bucks, AND ROB was extended for 2 more pictures BEFORE the actual release of this product, then why is the boss saying we need something completely different? It sounds to me like the quote/unquote "fanboy" voice that supposedly influences nothing may actually be ringing loud and clear over at Dimension based on the overwhelmingly negative critical and fan-based views or that the Weinstein's maybe really didn't appreciate Rob Zombie's artistic vision after all.....And FINALLY the one hundredth reason why this movie was a complete nightmare.....100) despite the best efforts and arguements by the teenybopper crowd to spin this otherwise, anyone with half a friggin brain can tell you that after months and months of anticipation, sniping, and spin that this movie was a complete friggin disaster. It's really that bad folks..........
60) Michael Myers DOES NOT CRY like an
ornery bitch people. Repeat that: Michael Myers DOES NOT
CRY like an ornery bitch!!!!!
umm.....halloween 5 much?
I will say this..... why is it that everyone who seems to love this movie can't seem to spell or form any type of a real sentence. Seriously look through the forums. One long paragraph, misspellings, improper language. What to expect of fans of "snorkel" and "skull fuck" eh?
Guess Zombie's audience IS full of retards and inbreds after all.... Nuff SAID!!!
Sauron your a mumbling bitch I'll bet your like 17 man shut the fuck up bitching, and you gave us the other 50 ''just because BD asked''did you ou bitchsuck his dick when he asked too?You stupid dicksucking faggit your 50 ramblings ''half which made no sense''was just a weakling attempt from a Freddy fan to derail the momentum of this film IMO it was the greatest emake since Night of the Living Dead Rob delivered man big time and people are tired of hearing you bitch, and BD I'm still waiting on where you place this in the series dipshit...........Bloodydisgusting.com sucks
Ok....what kind of person honestly says "bitchsuck"? Again, i'm not trying to be Captain save-a-ho,but Sauron will at least give reasons as 2 why he's not into something, and it's ok to disagree w/ someone without busting on em-there was sh*t i wasnt too keen on about this movie as well, but it was'nt all bad,so sh*t happens-tommykfw1-i doubt you could find tits in a strip club,so just shut yer gator..."bloodydisgusting .com sucks" Ha!
The movie should have stuck with it's original ending of Dr Loomis not dying and Michael being killed. The ending is actually sad as your hear the voice of the young michael going on in Loomis' head. Although there was not a lot of character development with the Carptenter side of the story, overall it was worth seeing. I mean I almost threw up when I saw the last Halloween film when Busta Rhymes kung-fu'ed Michael. He could take several gunshots, being burned, stabbed, decapitation, but the only thing that could kick his ass was a middle aged fat less than mediocre hip hop guy? Come on guys Zombie's version was way better than that crap.
Can someone please tell me what is so "reinvisioning" about this movie? The only difference in terms of story from this movie and the series is he shows Michaels childhood life for 30mins. When he escapes and gets back to Haddonfield it's John Carpenters movie done horrible. He didn't reinvision anything. He just took JC's movie and smashed it into a 40min hack job instead of 90mins. The movie just didn't "feel" like a Halloween movie. It felt like torture porn. The dialogue was terrible, the writing was amature, and the acting was B-quality. Also in the original Michael kills Annie because she calls him a jerk and pissed him off. Also in one of the deleted scenes from the original there is a scene where Linda comes to Laurie's house before she heads over to Doyle's to babysit and tells her that the guy they saw at school and followed her over there. In the original michael was the shape not Laurie's brother. So it appears he just randomly picks them out and kills them which adds to the fear factor of why is he doing this.
Another thing is...while the orignal has flaws you don't see them. It took years of scanning the film to catch alot of the things people talk about now. I am willing to bet that 99% of the people that say "well the original has flaws", only know they are there because they read it somewhere online and went back and looked for those in the movie. That my friends is called great film making. JC was able to make a movie on a low budget that had alot of technical flaws but was good enough to hide them from the audience. Ask your average non-die hard halloween fan and they wouldn't be able to tell you any technical flaws in the original because you flat out can't see them unless you are looking for them. The movie pulls you in so much that you focus on the plot/fear and miss the little things like the Doyle's having one door when Annie drops Laurie off, and has a totally different front door 5mins later.
Oh and Annie not dying in this film? Trust me I am almost 100% sure she was allowed to live strickly due to if they decide to make a sequel she could be in it to pull fans back in. Daniel Harris is a Halloween icon, and he scenes were by far the most enjoyable. I would have much prefered her in the role of Laurie. She could have added so much more to the film in that role. The new Laurie was god awful, the no acting B-level hack.
There you go Tymishu.....a cool 100. I'm going to try and repost the whole thing later in another thread for posterity's sake. (with Mr. D's permission of course).....
again : "writing!"
Heck I even went and saw it again, just to give it a chance, but... Anyways another example:
The whole scene with the Bennet Tramer reference (to lamely establish Lauries insecurities around boys) turns into a sex joke. In the original Annie jokes a little about this, but she actually shows some concern for Laurie, the issue comes up in the dialogue about 3 or 4 times in the script, without taking us out of the events. That may sound like a comparison to the original but it really isn't. It doesn't take a lot of time to rewrite creative dialogue and then insert it within a scene where it could work - or BETTER YET come up with new ways to show us how much these people matter to each other and to us, any less than that is taking advantage of an audience's intelligence as well as another kind of thievery that really hits the wallet. There are a few scenes where more character development like this could and should have been used -- which is too bad because it's a good example of how the director failed the actors as well. All things said, It's the directors responsibility, even if the 'best boy' screws up...its the Director that, at the end of the day, takes the rap; the captain of the ship. Even the Titanic had an amazing first few days.
And again I have to agree with Sauron and a few others that have spoken, number 75 really rings a bell... even the music was a direct copy of the Halloween II scene you mentioned.
Heres an idea....Sherimoon69 (great name by the way) suck my dick. Seriously. Let's not waste time bitchin on the internet (like your a real hard ass) and just come here and take it all down your throat? This movie was the shit (my opinion) don't give a fuck what you or any other motherfucker thinks, you have your retarded and close minded opinions, and thats cool. But if you want to try and get personal thats a different story. You're prolly some 13 year old kid, tryin to act hard online, all pissed and emo at the world, cuz your mom doesnt love you, and TRIED to abort you, but the dumb bitch can't do anything right anyway.
still don't know what the haters think they are going to acheive posting countless times, why they hated the movie. they are not going to change the minds of people that liked the movie.
People don't like what they read so they have to get personal... Same thing, different thread... Anyhow, you know the critical failure of this movie isn't all Zombie's fault. The Weinstein's and Akkad allowed this movie to be made the way it was made. Or... was that the best they could do with what they had and there was already a commitment there? They produced the thing, so I think that is a good question! Someone also wrote that this movie was beautifully shot. I think that could be the case if you could actually SEE the film due to it being so dark and if you could actually see what was being shot because it appeared to be filmed in an earthquake! BTW, 101) Bathroom stall getting busted up with the advertisement window on the otherside shattering - cut to a hardly bent bathroom stall with the advertising window in place. Once again continuity.
Sauron is it true BD likes it in the ass????This site sucks and Laser please dont give us the whole ''don't get Sauron angry deal'' were on the web bitch in real life I would pimp smack him like the bitch his dad is,and Sauron BD likes the taste of your spunk I hear assboy.......holla Best Remake Ever
hey everyone...first post here.
I'd really just like to say that I find the most interesting thing about all of this is not the bashing, not the praising, but the sheer amount of DISCUSSION Zombie's film has brought with it. I enjoyed the film and appreciate where Zombie is coming from/ going to with his film making thus-far.
As a genre fan, I think it can only be a good thing to see this much passion and conversation regarding a beloved franchise vs. creativity(and it really is EVERYWHERE...)
To the "intelligent poster" above.
Well......slap the shit out of this brain dead fuck...........because I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Was it perfect? Of course not, what the hell is, but I still enjoyed it alot. I actually expected it to be alot worse. Also, for anyone who feels Zombie "killed" this franchise, and the Weinsteins are "ashamed" etc, give your head a shake. They wouldn't sign him on for 2 "yet to be determined" movies if they didn't have total faith in him. If you didn't like the movie.....good......forget about it. You can come back here and do your "I fuckin' know better than anyone how to make a movie and Zombie sucks routine" when he makes his next one.
The public loved it. Not the critics, but I've heard from so many people that they loved it and I have yet to hear from someone who didn't like it. The word of the mouth is very good.
It wasn't perfect, but if it is the end, better to end the series with a great movie than a sh**ty one (*coughResurrectioncough*)
And BTW....I wouldn't call BD the most reliable source of reviews in the industry. I mean, the Shining gets a 3.5 but I Know Who Killed Me gets a 4? What gives?
let's just say i've had the privelege of seeing the alternate ending as well as a much much better version of how he escaped the institution... seeing those two versions made me very very upset about what they put in the theatrical version... i'm positive that many of you guys already know what i'm talking about.. but i suppose the scene with the two night guards was too brutal for an R rating... maybe in the unrated dvd... we'll see
Roberco I know what your talking about. The "unrated alternate" version (what I call it) had some cool scenes, but DEF lacked in an ending. The theatrical ending was def the better way to go. I do enjoy the 2 guard on 1 girl scene. Wish It could have been left in.
Huh? wtf you mean, "on the web real life",tommysw1 or whatever the fuc* your name is....i am on the web....in real life last time i checked, all you see is someone explaining why they aint into the same sh*t you are-and explaining why, i know its hard for you to wrap your brain around that seeing as how your clearly a dipsh*t who can only bust (i use that term loosely) on another dude by droppin f*g lines...so dont even address me in here, i doubt you'd know a real horror film if it broke in your (mom's) house, and jacked your anime dvds....di*kcheese
Btw, am i the only person who thinks the actress who played Judith in the remake, looks like a dude? nice body,though...to bad she was bitchy little skank,i dont blame lil Mikey for cut and shufflin her as* lmao
my god its about time someone puts the the lame halloween movies to rest, and gave birth to a new michael mayers.the bathroom scene at the truck stop people at the theater were shocked!the dark and blue lighting was just brilliant! godbless Rob thank u for this film because the last 2 simply sucked.ive seen it 3 times and its going to be while for when i get tired of it.
I'm going to play the Devil's advoate again. There was a lot of interest in this film due to the mere fact it was Halloween. A 26% drop off from one day to the next does not signify that "the public" loved this movie. A lot did, a ton didn't; otherwise you'd see those numbers reversed. I really enjoyed it for a typical gross-out, tittie infested slasher flick. A remake of Halloween, no way! Just didn't do it for me. Either did most of the sequels. Roberco, I agree with you (4:41 post). They could've kept the other version (and all those cameos would be history), got rid of the rape but kept the escape, and edited it just a little and it would've been better than the theatrical version. PL, you got that right (9:09 and 9:12)! Yea, Judith looked like Sarah Gilbert from "Roseanne."
Oh well....i'm still diggin the new action figure i picked up fri before the movie started...the theatre was pretty packed, i got a kick outta the teenager who was forced to work the entrance checking IDs and tix only b/c i'm sure there was a ton of 17 yr fu*ktards tryin to sneak in....back in the day my moms called the theater when HALLOWEEN 5 (vomits) came out....and they let me in...i was like, well, 17 lmao
I can't wait for the DVD. I want to see the special features, and if there's an "un rated" version, and if there is, is it similar to the one so many have seen? Either way the movie was BA. I think so many people didn't like it, because no matter what others said, they still sat there trying to compare it to the original. If you sit back and not even think about the original, and just watch Zombies movie, I don't see how you couldn't enjoy it. Now when you sit there, and hold the 2 side by side, yea, I could see how you would be disappointed. But don't. This movie was a very unique, and pretty different view on Myers. I dug it. What really gets to me, is when people say "Oh if you like this movie, you're retarded" or "brain dead." Who the f*** are you? Since when does disagreeing over a movie make someone dumber? Or less intelligent? You people need to just stop making everything so god damn person. Give your opinions, tell why you think something kicked ass or why it f***ing sucked. But why start to try and act all hard? Over a movie? Grow the f*** up men. I would love to see what people thought of this movie, if it was the exact same, but the only difference being Carpenter directed this "remake." Because I bet half of you, (not all) would be singing a different story. To me this film gave back Michael his brutality, his blood lust, his sadistic style. 4-5 were just down right sad, 6 was pretty damn good because he had that brutality and sickness, 7-8 he became this "poppy" figure who does cameos with s***** rappers and models. At least Zombie brought back the good old Michael. I'm def f****** happy for that. The only, and only beef I have with this film, is the acting of sheri-moon. Don't get me wrong, 1000 Corpses and Reject's she was f****** amazing! Plus she's hot as hell! But I just couldn't get into her acting in this movie. But MUCH and I mean MUCH props go out to Daeg Faerch. He actually held his own and played a damn good young Michael.
I would guess if there was anything new on the DVD, it would be the workprint. It has a lot of different scenes, etc. It is actually better then the theatrical version in many ways. Hey Dek, just a note: If Carpenter remade his own movie, it would be better than this one. He is more of an accomplished filmmaker. But he wouldn't remake this one or any other Halloween becuase he knows even HE can't duplicate his own classic! BTW, I can't understand why you couldn't get into Sherri Moon Zombie's acting. I think that was her best performance she has ever done. Also on another note: Someone mentioned that Michael killed all these characters that were bad, thus took out the fright (or something like that). I agree with that. When a killer kills a jackass, then we actually root for the killer. It is when a killer kills people that are good, it takes the story into a different direction. I noticed in the Zombie version, Mike kills a lot of a$$holes and people we just don't care about or wish they were dead. It is hard to sympathize with that, and that takes the scare factor away. That is just my observation.
He didn't destroy anything. This franchise was destroyed when they started putting out 4 and up. You can't even say that. You know damn well too that if they want to make a sequel they will. They will figure out some way to bring him back. Now if you want to say Zombie made another shitty movie for the franchise, thats ok, but to say he "destroyed" it is just dumb. There will always be the other movies, always be the shirts, toys and so on. There will always be fans. It's not dead or destroyed, and never will be.
P.S.
What made the people he killed bad?
Danny Trejo? Malcolm McDowell? The Strodes? Linda? Bob? These weren't "assholes" in anyway. Maybe Judith, Her bf, and Ronnie were, but thats only 3. The rest of the movie he was killing off innocent people.
I already mentioned the Strodes and Trejo I'll give you. No one can tell me that anyone would give a crap about the others. Zombie didn't even make these guys deep enough or made them out to look ridiculous. Loomis, he is only presumed dead. You could take that any way you want. I just mark him down to a vicious headache. Wasn't McDowell and Mane signed on to the next movie that "isn't coming"?
How could you not care about Trejo? He was the only one (besides McDowell) who took care of Michaels in they asylum. As far as McDowell, I would think anybody who bleeds out of their eyes, nose, mouth and ears after getting their skull smashed together would be dead. Besides yea they were signed on for the sequal UNTIL Zombie went back and re-shot some part and the ending which u saw in theatres. In the first ending Loomis lives and Michael gets shot down.
I'd just like to say "Eat a dick!" to anyone to can't form their own opinion and has to bash others for liking a movie that you don't How childish is that? I liked it, thought it was awesome. It gave me a feel of nostalgia, especially watching it at the drive-in. If it's not f'ing Transformers or something the mainstream movie crackheads put out, it gets crapped on. What a time we live in......
Come on folks. Be realist. At the end of the day, it boils down to cold hard cash. The studios will continue to push out sequels as long as they make a profit. They have already made a profit on this one. Also, some other director and writer will come along and say that they can fix this mess and will probably get their chance ala Zombie. You can bet you last dollar on that. If you can continue to push out sequels after part 5, 6, H20, and Resurrection, movies that were absolute garbage, you will get another soon enough. See where I'm going with this. It's all about the Benjamins. By the way, did Busta Rhymes win an academy award after the last internet garbage movie. What about L L cool J? Did Jamie Lee Curtis revive the series? No! But did she pump up the box office receipts? YES! That's how and why Ressurection was made. It's exactly why there will be another Halloween in a couple years with Zombie or the next so called savior. It's not rocket science it's the movie business.
Dead on P.W. I would be shocked if they did not attempt a sequel. But here's where I think it gets diluted, dumb and unbelievable. Did Michael not get shot by Laurie at point blank range in the face/head area? Let's not forget the shots he took from Loomis. How the hell does he survive that? This is where most horror franchise's lose it. Someone comes along with a new (dumb) idea how they somehow come back from the dead. And there you have it, 3,4 more bad sequels, but a ton of cash in peoples pockets.
does make sense..McDowell signed on for 2 more halloweens BEFORE the reshoots (where he does survive)..so i guess no sequels since they basically killed him off, or at least it looks that way in the theatrical..
Hey Dek, I said I'd give Trejo to you. Yea, it was a shame that he got knocked off. I also saw the first cut, it was better than the released one, but whether or not Loomis got the big head squeeze, people have a way of coming back to life in horror movies though. I have a feeling that this series is not dead. I thought Akkad owned the franchise, why does Weinstein get to crack the whip and make the decision for the future of Halloween? The way things have been going, it would probably be a good idea if the Weinsteins got out and let someone else do the producing so they can keep the next director in check so we can have a better movie. Obviously Jr. Akkad doesn't have the skills either. BTW, good work PW.
Thanks Jonny and Haddonfreak. Just trying to apply a little common sense.
Maybe Lionsgate can buy the rights to Halloween. Someone posted this earlier and have to agree. They'll put out something decsent. BTW did Michael get shot? I couldn't tell and don't think anyone else did. It's like Tony Soprano...did he die? It's up to us to interpret.
I agree Haddonfreak, and sorry for mis-reading your Trejo comment. All i know is I would love a sequel to this, and wouldn't mind if Zombie did it. Think of this, even if it is Zombie who makes another one, atleast all the negative s*** he's getting, will help him to make one thats up to the perfect standards of some of you out there.
Why have Zombie make the sequel when you can have the three or four losers from parts 4-8 do it. They can go back to Salt Lake City, Utah to film inside of barns again. Bring back the mysterious Thorn caped guy too! Hey, have Michael kll a few more teens at the barn party. I guess those movies were of high quality. LOL
One more... People are sulking because Zombie "somewhat" humanized Michael in his version, but okay to have Micheal appear to be sulking behind bars at the end of part 5. That was after being trapped in a net inside the new and improved Strode mansion. How they didn't get an Oscar is beyond me.
And dont forget the crying part in H5,the stuff legends are made of...any movie w/ a killer in a mask that looks like a cross between a crackhead and a retarded cabbage patch kid, deserves 2 oscars.....
Um...dont psychopaths USUALLY kill innocent people??? i'm not understanding the issue w/ who was an as*hole and who didnt "deserve" to get whacked by a dude whos basically a building with legs......
Johnny, PW, Laser, Haddon, Daveberg, Syxx, Housetop, Halloweenfan, Ledhead, all exempt from this. As longtime residents of these parts you've earned the respect to say your peace. However, one of the things that really strikes me as funny is everyone bashing the haters for comparing this to the original. The new mantra in these parts is that ROB made it his own film and that we need to separate THIS movie from Carpenter's vision.....BBUULLLLSSHHIITT.....Let's all try to fucking remember that ROB Zombie himself said that he felt there were inconsistancies in the original that he needed to "reimagine." It came right out of the man's mouth himself, so waste my time with the semantics of separation. ROB himself compared his vision against Carpenter's and now every little whiny seventeen year old bitch who fancies himself as having a clue about Halloween is trying to run away from their master's previous egomaniacal rantings. HE FUCKING SAID, there's no backing down and that ship has sailed. PERIOD. It's a Halloween movie and will be treated as such. The movie was shit. The script was shit. And yes, the director was shit. The movie sucked, plain and simple. What;s really comical in all of this is that we seem to have acquired a bunch of brand new brave souls around these parts myseriously appearing roundabout Aug. 31st to wax poetic about their pubescent opinions. The movie sucked. I've proved it. The critics back me up. Blind wannabe fanboy c^nts can whine all they want until Saw 4 becomes the hot new movie to put the moves on their rather limited attention span.....
first of sauronthepowerful you can suck my dick as well. 17 year old bitch. I ain't fuckin 17, thats for damn sure. So because he said " inconsistancies in the original that
he needed to "reimagine." he's comparing his to the OG? I don't think so. All that means was he thought shit needed to be fixed. You dipshits are comparing every frame, quote, action to the OG. THAT'S what he didn't want. Thats fuckin stupid to do. Why would you want to see the SAME fuckin movie again, scene from scene, just done in the present time? You probably liked The Omen remake then. If you want to see Carpenters Halloween then watch the that shit. Oh and that shit about you "proving" the movie sucked, just cause some uptight, loafer wearins pussys said it did was fuckin lame. That doesnt prove shit! Its your retarded opinion and your opinion don't mean shit to me, as well as the critics opinions. Saw? Fuck that movie. That movie sucked ass. That movies a fuckin rip off of Se7en anyway! Your probable going to argue that Saw was Original, and nothing like Se7en. I don't know who you think you are "thepowerful" but judging by that name, I'm going to assume you're a 25 year old man, living in his parents basement, still a virgin, who doesn't have a job and plays video games and watches movies all day. Get aborted.
LOL. I am, and forever will be blown away at how serious everyone takes a movie. It's beyond comical. Sometimes it comes across as though lives depend on the outcome. I find it hard to even comment sometimes due to the fact I'm laughing so hard and the tears often blur my vision. I love the entertainment of reading these comments ( especially Sauron's, the man's posts comes across like a Stephen King novel at times, and that's actually a good thing ), but sometimes I actually get a little weirded out. It's not about the movie being scary.........it's about some of YOU being scary! Your compassion is overwhelming posters. Yikes.
And again, I did like the movie......it was a trip. I guess I didn't get up in a bunch about it at all, since I can look at it with reason.......it's just a movie..........period.
I'll say again....if it were'nt for the '78 original there would'nt be slasher films (or horror, for that matter) the 453674869879780000,00000 imitators that followed are pure testament to that, that's the movie these wannabe films jerk-off to.
....and in my defense i dont take these movies TOO seriously, its all in good fun in my book....Star wars, however,is a totally different story....I'll fight over that sh*t LMAO
I understand the significance of the original Laser, believe me I do, but you know what? My feelings for it haven't changed, not after part 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or this one. I still love it the same, 29 yrs hasn't killed it, and 29 more won't either. The point I was trying to make is how crazy everyone is getting over this whole movie. It's insane, it really is. It's just a movie. I'm not trying to disrespect any of you, all I'm saying is this......if I was knowingly going to be in a room with you guys, I'd pack a gun or two. For my own safety. LOL.
I don't movies too serious, but when people want to go ahead and act hard and make shit personal, THAT'S when I get pissed. I stated from my first comment on, opinions are opinions, and I'm cool with that, but don't sit there and try and make it personal. Fuckin callin people "dumb" or "retarded" or tell them they have no right to voice their opinions just cuz they like a movie you don't. If you hate this movie thats cool, if you want to give your opinion why it sucked thats fuckin' cool too. But don't sit there and tell me I'm dumb cuz I like it or that I'm not a "true" fan, or that I don't "know what horror and suspense is" cuz thats all just bullshit.
Well said severed...I may give ppl sh*t about liking this,or not liking that, but thats just my sense of humor,i joke around alot and if ppl wanna be uptight and wear their feelings like a button that "please push all these, its real easy" thats their right, but they should'nt pis* and maon if all it does is gets pushed,by myself or someone else....
Man, the personal jabs keep comin'. Yep, Zombie DID say there were inconsistencies that he thought needed attention and he even listed a few. I think (as a director) if you think you "have" to fix the orginal or parts of it, you are putting yourself out there for comparison. There is absolutely no way around it. I think it is up to the viewers if they want to compare it or not, but Sauron was right when he stated what Zombie said. He did say it, therefore putting himself out there to fans and critics alike. When you reinvision something, you are taking something that is already been done and redoing it in the way you think it should be done. Once again, that automatically sets you up for comparison. There is no other way around it. Nice points again PL. The original sparked the whole genre.
OK, I got some ammo for everyone. Here is a quote for you all. We can start a good discussion on this one. Here goes: "What really drew people was the fact that it wasn't a remake -- it was Rob's version of the story, as if the original 'Halloween' had never been made," Weinstein said. I will comment first. That is the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever heard!
I went in to this thinking it would suck BIG TIME for a lot of the reasons that most people did not like the movie:
1. Giving The Shape a Motive.
2. Too many horror icon cameos to distract from the story.
3. Chucky as Brackett = Come On!
4. More overt violence instead of suspense/terror. (save that for Murder Setpieces)
5. Malcom McDowell as Loomis - They should've got David Warner.
6. etc and so on.
In the end I found myself just giving in and treating it like a totally new movie - and I enjoyed it.
As always what happens for me when I see a movie is to "let go" and just watch it.
Yes, things annoyed me about the movie : Especially Annie/Laurie/Linda - they all sucked bad.
All I know is that while I was watching the movie I was having a good time.
I really swore that I wasn't going to stoop to THIS, but hey what the fuck. To the longtime residents of these boards who have EARNED the right to speak the peace, I hope you can excuse the immanent immaturity of the following.....Dekayed: If you could actually formulate a coherent sentence that made any semblance of sense, then your opinion might carry more weight. However, since you whine incessinetly like a little bitch experiencing the joys of your first period COUPLED with the fact that YOU indeed appear to be one of the above said neophytes who seem to have been born long about the 31st of Aug. around these parts, I really could care less than the last sheet of soiled a#stissue that I ran up my crack what you think or say on these boards. Your desperately sad attempts to talk 'thug' are comical. What are we supposed to take you more seriously because you talkin like you run the show. PUH-FUCKING LEEZ!!! LMm-FAO. As far as "Go watch that shit....." Yeah that about sums up the collective credibility that you bring to the table. Could possibly be the first time that I've heard Carpenter's original referenced as 'shit.' YOU indeed appear to be a charter member of that special 'ROB'sFriends' club who were chosen to take a shot-in-the-mouth and then puked it back up to sell on ebay as proof that a celebrity chose you as his semenal recepticle. Don't you just feel all noticed and special. Now run along and tell your literary wet nurse, Mr. Cummings that while defending his feminine honor you finally managed to achieve the sum total of your life's every whim and desire to attract the attention of Sauron. As to the meaning of "thepowerful," I think you might want to ask your girl about that one.....
haha wow. You got me buddy. Mr. The (space) Powerful. Talking "thug"? What's thug? If saying that I'd knock you the fuck out if we ever met, is "thug" then god damn I am that nigger. But once again, I'm not going to sit here and talk hard online, you've now made things personal. Fuck the movies, I think we should meet up. Seriously. Run the show? Why the fuck would I want to run this show? haha. A place where a bunch of pussy's TRY and feel important by talking shit about movies? You could have this show. I sure don't want to take away the only thing keeping you from slitting your wrists, cuz the rest of the world could give a shit that you exist. :( Please don't. But since you want to ramble on about people's sentences not making sense, you should def, check out spell check when you try to use "big words". But anyway, I'm done with you, Go ahead and respond, say the same shit about how some of us haven't "EARNED the right to speak the peace" (I think you meant their peace) and bla bla bla cry cry cry "I'm a bitch, you suck dick, you're immature" Because instead of talking look me up in Lombard, Illinois
Weinstein actually had the nad to say that? these ppl are responsible for trash like "hannibal rising"(the book is better, but not by much) if the '78 version "never happened" he would'nt have the job he has....i would wonder what Mr Carpenter thinks of the remake?....on 2nd thought he probably didnt bother to mess w/ seeing it...another reason why this should be the last movie...it should just be done and closed, ya know?
"i'm not going to sit here and try to talk hard online" yeah, "try" is about it....awwww....is somebody butthurt b/c someone was mean to you? If your done then just drop it,and finish looking for your tampons,Degay13
its funny because i've seen the other version.. and i personally think it's really great with the added scenes... as well as the subleties that were taken out... however, i remember that what I am seeing and enjoying is not the version in theatres... not the final version.. and makes it seem kind of obsolete... I guess Zombie felt he needed to cut and paste things together here and there late in the game... maybe insecurities or something?.. anyway.. I'm upset at the one that was officially released but whatever... just movies
Hey, can't we all just get along and stick to the topic instead of name calling and threats. It's just a movie for fu*k's sake. Guess what ? Were all going to wake up tomorrow and this movie will have done nothing to you and your life wether you loved or hated it. Move on. More of our favorites will most likely be remade at some point, get used to it. It's not going away. I've enjoyed most of the posts here, the good and bad reviews, that's what makes a great debate and discussion, our opinions. 26.5 million more than likely means HALLOWEEN 2 is not far away.I thought overall RZ's version was just ok, not great( MY opinion). But I probably would see(or atleast rent) the sequel if it comes just out of curiosity.
Good idea, moving on, so am i to understand that at 1 point Loomis lived and we had a re-shoot for the ending? like i said before, I saw good ol Samuel MAYBE knocked out (eyes closed and all) so it was kinda open as to he was dead or taking a nap from getting his face smooshed....which would hurt like a bi*ch btw.....lol comments?
Loomis could've been dead or alive. Who knows? It's horror! Before the re-shoots, a lot of Zombies Firefly's were not in the movie. There was no coyote hanging from a stick, there was a lot more dialogue in the early parts of the movie. There was no scene where Brackett tells Loomis about "Boo" Myers being taken to the Strodes. Micky the Monkee did not sell Loomis a gun. Loomis lived and there was not a "Grindhouse" ending where Laurie was stradling her brother shooting him in the face. Oh yea, no Bob being pinned to the wall either. A few different killings and a rape (how twisted is this guy?). It was still dark and shakey with a lot of crap dialogue. It still needed an enema. Oh yea, NO Christmas music and it opened up with "Monster Mash" instead of "God of Thunder." I think Rob reinvisioned his reinvision. HAHAHAHA!
101) Attempting to put Mr. Sandman in as a reference to the old days. Could we at least have gotten the non-turtle version. Just one more little nitpick detail to add to the pile. Reviews are up (a whopping total of six FIVE DAYS AFTER the release date) over at Yahoo. No grade higher than a 'B-' along with a few C's and D's. Let the delusional try to analyze their way around that.....
I think a solid C would be about right. An A or B might be stretching it. I think I need to see it again and see how I feel then, (I'll wait to rent or buy it). It's obvious though if your an RZ fan and love the trashy style of House of 1,000 Corpse or Devil's Rejects (I do like that one), that Halloween was a huge success to you. Though's who are a little more into the traditional, old school horror will hate it. I can understand and relate to both sides and arguments. I think it's a waste bashing someone's opinion. It's all about the differnce in taste. I'm sure RZ had a good idea that he would take a verbal beating with his version of Halloween, implementing his film style from those who find his 70's style explicit violence and gore repulsive.
I guess I gotta make this request official. Mr. D.....would it be possible for me to repost the Top 100 List in a new threa. I could clean up the language to make it more professional and such. MyersClaus lives!!!!!
it makes me laugh how much you guys are arguing and taking this whole thing so close to your heart! i have been an (i'll even admit...) obsessive halloween fan since i was a toddler. i have followed the movies relentlessly and passionately, even still today. but first of all, it's quite obvious the halloween series was already in the hole, so why get all hyped up if it's your opinion that you hate the flick?? second, it's just not worth getting so heated over... if you hate the film, whatever the reasons are or how many there are, then good. keep it to yourself, rather than insult and mock those who are just trying to defend their opinions. bottomline, if you like it, then like it, if you hate it, then hate it... everyone stop getting their panties in a bunch. it's an already fallen franchise. if you hated it, just remember the goodtimes, and dont look back. boom! conflict solved.
Wonder why it's always the passer by (so to speak) that thinks we are all argueing and fighting? well, i'm sure i'd think the same thing now that i think about it,lol...course it's most of these random ppl who ACTUALLY get as* hurt over these things and that gets a bit retarded (I.E. posting for no reason other than to try to start a pissing contest) could be wrong, but it seems us "regs" dont really do that.........to each other anyways lol
I see shit is still heated around these parts...I've been away briefly, but I'm here to give my thoughts on the flick. Overall it was an okay movie. There were a few things that worked and many things that didn't. As far as the white trashiness of the movie goes, I was cool with everything but the first 10 minutes or so. That cussing was way over the top. I was kind of surprised by the early Myers years. I thought Daeg put forth a noble effort and I thought the Dahmerisms was kind of a nice touch. The tree branch scene was cool as well. Also, it should be mentioned that Sheri put in a moderately decent performance that I wasn't sure she was capable of. The sanitarium stuff was just okay. The last third of the movie was alrite as well but it was obviously poorly edited and crammed into too short of a time period. Sheriff Brackett was essentially useless to the plot. I prefer to not compare the original to this simply because the original is obviously far superior. But I knew that before going in. I think it's more accurate to judge the movie based on today's standards. RZ said there were inconsistencies so he was definitely setting himself up on that one. Sauron I read your 100, good stuff. You make some pretty valid points, but many of them were small things that didn't affect my view on the movie too much. The only thing I would prob. disagree with is Malcolm McDowell. Now, he was definitely no Donald, but I thought overall he had one of the better performances. He mis-delivered some of those lines, but I think that character came off as pretty realistic. Especially within the context of this movie. Most psychologists aren't certified geniuses who speak brilliantly. Hell, many people I've met major in psych as an excuse to party in college. His actual dialog can be blamed on RZ himself. Overall the directing I thought was decent, but the writing was def. sketchy. Devil's Rejects was better directed IMO. Lastly, I thought the ending was kind of a nice touch(I know many thought it wasn't great). The way it was shot kind of made it work I thought. Anyways I'd probably give the movie a C or so. I'd still say its better then some of those damn sequels (even though it should be judged on higher standards). I guess what saved the movie for me was the negativity that lowered my expectations just before seeing it. I tried not to overanalyze...
Hey MV, if you like it - say it! If you hate it - say it! That is what this forum is all about. This isn't jump on the bandwagon type of thing here, though some would want it to be.
Beautiful LEDHEAD. That was about as good of send off as you could have. A "C" is what we got when expectations were so much more. I didn't hate it, just felt a little short. There was lots to breakdown, but why bother ? I want to see it again (DVD), and see if it gives me a different perspective (good or bad, either way). I don't think anyone won here, lovers or haters, I think everyone got what they wanted out of this. Unless something else pops up about this movie, I'm out everyone. Adios Becha's !!!!!!!
Sorry to see you go Johnny. I was quite enjoying the repoire. If I could convince you to stay then I would formally put in that request now. While things are low right now, I'm anxious to see the overall financial performance at this point. Like I said before, someone wiser than me summed it up best "ROB had better deliver an AMAZING film to justify the hype and hoopla....." Let's be honest, this was nowhere near being an amazing film. Even the long-time writers on these boards are basically saying that while they didn't feel it totally sucked, that it was an overall mediocre product that could've been much better. Even removing my somewhat slanted perspective, you see where this has not really shaped (sic) up to be the grand reimagining that we were promised would redefine a masterpiece.....
Thanks Johnny...yeah as time moved forward on the project and we were given bits and pieces of the film, it struck me that this is a horror remake by a mediocre-decent director with flawed writing skills. So I think it was a bit unrealistic to expect a true cinematic masterpiece (IMO). As far as the grand reimagining that we were promised would redefine a masterpiece is considered, that was simply big talk to hype up the movie. I don't recall that quote actually coming from Rob. It was more of a trailer tagline or something. I'm sure the Weinsteins after seeing it didn't really believe it was a masterpiece. However Rob said it was gonna be different and BOY was it...That being said I think it was hard for many people to let grasp of the fact that it was in such contrast to the original and the style of most of the series. But as far as your previous post goes Sauron, we're in agreement there...
The film has made 34.5 million dollars. Which is still giving the studios fifteen million profit. I don't know if i believe that thier isn't gonna be a sequel after that much profit. House of 1,000 corpses made 9 mill profit and spawned a sequel.
I also think if rob would cut down on the swearing that his movies would be better. He needs to learn how to write movies with better dialogue than just trying to replace it with swearing. I mean every other word in rejects was fuck! He would just be helping out his career if he chose a different writing path.
Definately. Would also help if he tightened up his crew and their/his technical skills. Also, downplay the rhetoric about ROB Zombie being an artistic visionary and the like. Shoddy technique can't always be disguised as an arthouse alternative style to mainstream cinema.....

Hey Hallowfan, I definately agree. The dialogue was so unrealistic, I thought I wrote it! Well, wait a minute. I could've done better. So could 99.9% of you guys posting. The dialogue all through the movie was bad and it did bring down the movie as far as I'm concerned. Other than the shakey camera, dark picture, no scares, overkill, and the rush end job, the dialogue almost dissapointed me the most. It was just terrible! Lets just say it the way it is. Rob Zombie is a rock star who makes movies. He is NOT a filmmaker. With a good crew it definately could've been better on the production side.
Just saw this film. First off, "rash of negative reviews"? I've seen quite a few (village voice, the rub, etc.) singing the praises, so let's try to remain unbiased in the subject line. Now, I was supremely disappointed by Malcolm McDowell. Dialogue wasn't the high point, either. However, I was surprised at how much I liked this film. Tension, suspense, AND graphic violence coexist here, with no small thanks going to Tyler Mane for the menace he brought to the screen. I won't drag on, but I believe this was absolutely the most realistic look at how a true myers modus operandi would play out. On that, I think I liked it so much because the extreme violence was NOT gratuitous. The death scenes shock, but more importantly, they MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE! You should NOT like Myers. He should NOT be like an old friend you visit every few years in a dark room on a big screen. I think Zombie felt he had to drive that home (when he chose to give the psychotic backstory, this was point numero uno he had to get right), and he did it superbly. I was disappointed w/ MM's performance, but I like the direction of Loomis as a little shady, a bit capitalized, and we are unsure of his motives. Daeg Faerch was creepy as hell, and he sets the tone that helps me believe and accept the destructive bull-in-a-china shop that is Myers in the third act. I can't remember the last time I was caught off guard at a movie, but the Mr. Strode scene took care of that (the big SOB just goes right in! Great sequence). Danielle Harris rocked (great scene w/ Laurie on the phone). Brad dourif was under-utilized (as I had feared going in). But, all-in-all, I thought Zombie's vision and work were both not in vain. The story works, the suspense and violence are both there, and, for those willing to come outside their personal comfort zones and truly recognize this as effective violence ( not violence for the sake of), you are in for a hell of a ride. The new and the original will coexist just fine. And , if you were not uncomfortable during this film, you ARE a victim of torture porn, and I hope you can be rehabilitated. The original w/ suspense throughout and no face to put to the evil (metaphorically impaired: no backstory) are still the apex of horror. But this is definitely #2 in the order of merit, and a pefect contrast to the original I'll enjoy comparing over the years. Take care all.
FINALLY! A Good review! Not Just because he said he liked it, But because he gave actual reasons to why he didn't like it. Plus he wasnt trying to insult anybody or start shit. Perfect review CancerTropic.
Points well taken Tropic however, I will respectfully disagree. It was a bit off kilter with the level of brutality and predatory nature of MM but to be honest there were so many other problems both technical and script oriented. Obviously I went in with extreme prejudice against the whole idea of a remake versus a story pick up but, again my opinion, that the whole finished project was just too substandard. However, as I thank you again for defending our collective freedom, I will respectfully acquiesce to your view.
To the other one.....Funny how some people love to run their mouth and parade their manhood and then try to revert back to the "let's keep it civil and professional folks" mantra. If you wanted civil then please explain the following: 9/3/07 11:11am "Sherri you can suck my d%ck..." and this one 9/4/07 8:26pm "First off STP you can s%ck my d%ck as well....." My suggestion, stop cryin like a bitch ans starting shit when others aren't addressing you in the first place. Oh, I forgot, you must be the type of person who constantly feels the need to interject your presence into the middle of situations that did not involve you in the first place. While I was generally railing against a lot of the newbies who jumped on trying to expound on the glory of all-things-ROB, you apparently got it in your head that I was addressing YOU personally and proceeded to start shit. Don't try to change the story now my friend, it's all there in print for you to see. Follow the bread crumbs. Also.....I believe that there is a 100 reasons why this movie sucked list floating around. If you need a 'Hooked on Phonics' Primary Edition to decipher it then I'd be glad to recommend a few literary helper sets. Obviously you haven't been keeping close enough eyes on these boards because there was another minipositive review on what did work or had potential in this movie.....
AND FTR your initial reaction to my criticisms WAS directly addressed towards me whereas I never mentioned you or even indirectly referred to anything you ever said, so I think there's a wee bit of over-sensitivity going on here.....
Earlier, when I referenced MM, I was referring to Malcolm, not Michael (just to clarify). Sauron, I certainly appreciate your views, as well as the manner in which you present your case (great 50&50). And I will state that this was by no means The Godfather, Citizen Kane, or the like. It was also by no means on par with the original. The technical aspects of the film were lacking in many ways (already pointed out by many here, so no need in rehashing). I do greatly respect the pains Rob obviously took in trying to make the fans of the franchise "hate" Myers. After 8 entries, he's like family to the hardcore fans of the ENTIRE series. And after the brutal beat-down in the woods by Daeg, it was hard to watch the death scenes. Not because it was gratuitous torture porn, but because death is SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable, fictional or otherwise. And the mood, setting, and actions during these scenes were obviously far more detailed and meticulously approached than other points in the film. I thank rob for trying his very best to make Michael diabolical again.
i just watched the remake with the original endings and the original film..i personally like it better than the versionin the theatres..go to ssupload.com to watch it...sauron is gay
I think both sides, except for a couple of idiots, have presented decent arguments. Like I said before, I liked this movie overall.......and thats not comparing it to the original, cause that would be senseless. I went to be entertained, as well as wiping out some of the sequels.......mission accomplished. Sure, we could go on about flaws........dialogue etc........but Jesus fucking Christ..........it's a God damn movie, and if you take it to seriously....you need you fuckin' head examined! Sorry I sounded rude and immature, but THATS THE TRUTH.
As far as back and forth jibberish........shit......Sauron has been on here a long time, and more than not, I've disagreed.........BUT....he's always been fair to me........and thats all anyone can ask of each other. This childish behaviour is just that.....childish!
Sorry Cancer, can't agree with the suspense and tension, and I thought there was plenty of gratuitous violence. To me it was very predictable and it could've been so much more. Zombie could've made it a little eerier (at least). I even wish there could've been a little bit more in terms of little Micheal diving into the dark side when in the hospital. He just kind of went to not eating to stabbing the nurse, and then WHAMO... Done. There was not a good transition at all. However, there are points I did like. I thought Tyler Mane WAS really good as Michael. He put his own to the original. Deag was good also (though Zombie could've done more with him) I also liked some of the action. However, this was not any more than a typical 'slasher" film. I really couldn't find the suspense or tension in this movie. The production value was not good. It was a good popcorn movie though. Champs, good point on the original cut, it was much better as a whole, however, it was good that some of the original cut was edited, but they should've kept some of it. It would be nice to have a combo of the two cuts. For all of you who love this movie, keep loving it. It is your taste that counts. We are all different. Some of us like this movie, some love it, and some hate it. We all have our opionions and we are not going to change no matter what is said. However, we should all be respected and not receive personal attacks. I've been saying this for months. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
I can see a 3 day stint at the hospital under the sway of narcotics made me miss this place some, damn i need a laptop.....anyhoo i watched "species", and for some reason (drugs, pain) i thought Sir Ben Kingsley coulda rocked as loomis......no,really Comments?
ANYONE would have been better than McDowell. Laser, man, it's a SAD DAY in the annals of movie lore when Sherri Moon Zombie not only outacts but overall buries Malcolm McDowell. Don't get me wrong, Malcolm McDowell is a supremely talented and enjoyable actor, but damn. Maybe he was really sloshed all the time as ROB was joking about (highly doubtful) Kingsley would bring a certain stoic sterness and probably even a sense of obsessed menace that this Loomis sorely lacked. Another great choice would've been Daniel Benzalli. He is a topshelf character actor who eearily resembles an older version of Pleasence and his menace is disconcerting. ROB talked about Jeff Bridges and honestly I believe that he wrote THIS Loomis with Bridges in mind as opposed to McDowell. Bridges would've played off the part much, much better than McDowell. Anyway, as predicted, the box office dropped 65% from 26.3 (3 day) to 9.5. This movie will finish 4th in the franchise financially, behind 1, 2 and H20 (based on PURE ticket sales).....
I would venture to guess that they would be smart to put both versions of the movie on DVD at some point. DVD rentals and sales will probably be good. I'm with a lot of you about McDowell. There was something lacking there.
I agree w/ you both....there where scenes and some lines that just oozed pure cheeze in my opinion, and its 2 easy to make fun of em...like the aforementioned Myers house still having a phone service when Lynda calls Laurie......w/ a cordless phone after having sex in said house (ewwwww)
Whats up all? I'm a newbie to here, and 1st and foremost I have to say that the '78 version of "Halloween" is hands down the best horror film of all time.Period. That being said, I was a bit skeptical about the remake at 1st myself, but having seen it,it didnt suck half as bad as i figured it was gonna...the scenes and some of the dialog was rushed and at times corny as hell,I could pick this film apart frame by frame if i wanted, but thats not to say that it had it's moments,I rate it just a tad behind the original and part 2,wich were'nt exactly perfect either, but ANYTHING is better than the sequels that where squirted out like so much foul smelling pus from a zit, just b/c some dead camel jock wanted to only to get richer...
Btw, I agree with Sauron about McDowell,I was really amped when I found out he was playing our man Loomis,i'ill give him credit for trying, seeing as how he claims to have never seen the original, but he would start good, then just kinda fall short...a different but "same" outtake on the doc was cool, but just not cool enough...
Jesus...I just read more of everyones past few posts and it seems theres a group of ppl who get along fine, agree or not,but i've noticed some just popping in to talk sh*t and nothing else....kinda retarded lol o well,I just love horror and like to discuss it, so you'll get no lame,teen-age sh*t talk from me. hope to hear comments from the cool ppl. Peace.
Ditto on the "different" version of the remake...we shouldnt be shown an ending that tries to make us feel sympathy for someone who is supposed to be pure evil and unstoppable,so that other ending was lame in the highest degree, no wonder he did big time re-shoots lol
Welcome Redmad... Hey, both endings work depending on how you interpret the story. If he wants his sister to live, the first ending works. If he doesn't, no. Anyhow, there is so much about that movie that hits nerves around here, you may have joined a little late. You can certainly stir things up of other posters still visit. Hahahahaha....
I did like the fact Loomis lived in the other version, though he did'nt quite appear to be completely dead in the theatrical release, but it appears that could go either way,his eyes where closed but ya never know....anyhoo i'm sure the dvd will have a fu*kload of extra features, wich is cool
Ben Kingsley: superb nomination considering you want an actor similiar to the original. Good one PL. My choice for that would be Ed Harris (outstanding in all he does). Bridges woulda succeeded where MM fell flat for the "new" Loomis, but my ultimate choice for the "new" Loomis Rob was going for woulda been Kurt Russell. Also, I enjoyed the new film because my expectations were not highbrow. If I went in expecting a Halloween, Cape Fear, or Sixth Sense, I woulda been setting myself up for failure regarding liking the film. There is no way I would have liked this film if I were expecting a grand, cerebral vision. And this is to help others enjoy the film. Don't necessarily lower your expectations, but simply understand the dynamic you are in for.
Also, welcome to Red M. You had some great comments. But, question: did you personally see Moustapha riding a camel in a race of some sort and, if so, know him in a personal, friendly nature to qualify using that description without displaying a bias toward an ethnic group or nationality of persons? If not, please check that BS at the door when you enter. We all have our own beliefs, but this forum isn't the time or place. Thanks.
Guess that did come across a bit racist sounding,huh?.....i'm not here to offend anyone,so i apologize if i did, truth be told,i just forgot how to spell "moustapha" and i have a strange sense of humor pertaining to certain things lol, just take some of the things i say w/ a grain of salt, and i'll try to word things differently b/c sometimes i come off wrong. Thanks in return.
Good call on your picks for "what ifs Loomis actors",Cancer, Harris coulda pulled it off nicely, but my ultimate choice woulda been Sir Anthony Hopkins....wow he could nail that character w/ his eyes closed running backward lol
Btw,thanks for welcoming me I do love discussing horror (and star wars,i'm a huge dork and i dont give a sh*t)not that i'm an expert, but its in good fun for me....
No issue, Red. I doubt you had any ill intent, and enough said on the matter. I believe pissing lasers mentioned hopkins before, and I thought that was the ultimate as well. I also think Patrick Stewart or Ian McKlellan coulda brought a lot to that role. We could probably go all day on this. I think Rob did say it best that there is no shortage of fine mid-fifties to early sixties actors out there.
I think Ben Kingsley might have done well. I don't know so many people could have fit in the role. I think if Rob would have wrote the movie better Mcdowell would have nailed it. I was wondering you guys were kind of naming people like Kurt Russell and others that might have been a stretch but do you think about Burgess Meredith. I know he is dead and he had this raging raspy voice but I think he could have the loomis look with some Hollywood work. But I think he fits in the stretch side.
They shouldnt do a sequel, but i'm sure they probably will,it is kinda curious why Zombie re-shot the ending in the way it was changed...wasnt wide open, but wasnt exactly all tied up either,it could go more than 1 way...
Been a while so bear with me. I think there will be a sequel. The money isn't great, but it also isn't the bomb that I predicted (read: HOPED) for. This will settle quite nicely at fourth in the franchise adj. for inlation after 1, 2, and 7. I'm not going to take anything away from the box office performance right now, but I will say that I think the budget is a little north of $15mil. There was a TON of media saturation and those television ads don't come cheap (and there were a lot of them) The Weinstein's right now have been taking a lot of shit because they reported Grindhouse in at a $67mil budget but when the books were examined, it was discovered that the actual cost was around $93mil due to the heavy TV coverage. Their reporting was an obvious attempt to cover the money pit that that project became. Obviously Grindhouse bombed and this didn't. However, I have a little trouble believing that with today's costs, the large, semi-known cast, and the excessive Tv promos that this movie kept the budget down that low. Here, I think that they expected something that was going to generate around $80-90mil ala Saw 2, Saw 3, Fred vs. Jay, Chainsaw, or Hostel. This film doesn't even appear like it's going to top Amityville or Dawn of the Dead. With SO much hype going around from Camp Cummings I think you can see why the Weinstein's may have issued THAT statement about needing to see something TOTALLY different in order to proceed with a sequel. Let's face it, this project has gotten destroyed from just about every critical angle both print and fan based. Yes, it made money, but apparently not enough to get it into the upper tier of recent financial successes.I can't really harp on this right now because I went in (and came out) with some of the obvious prejudices about this whole project so any analysis I give is going to appear tainted to undercut ROB (as if the movie didn't do enough to do that). Time will tell, but I think that there will indeed be a sequel. Unfortunaely.....
It would have to be so bada*s and different...like it should pick up where we left off, like Laurie could be all doped up at the clinic, and Myers could somehow track her down there....no , wait.......lol
Something different would be nice, but if a rehash of H2 is going to be in the works... PLEASE, no bullet holes to the eye sockets. Let's do something real and let's bring back some SUSPENSE! This latest work had none. Also, with all the slasher flicks out there, there really isn't any more shock value in these movies, so suspense and scares must return!
