I will see the movie tomorrow and give my opinions then. As of the moment, I don't have a very good feeling, believing that, ultimately, Zombie may have tried to make Michael a "sympathetic" character--there's no way around it when you delve into somebody's background, trying to explain things too much in an attempt to "justify" or "rationalize" somebody's behavior. When one does that, they're generally looking for empathy/sympathy. That was the beauty of the original--Michael's ultimate motive was unknown, so one didn't know what to expect or how to relate which leads to the biggest fear... That of the uknown. I have some thoughts on how the story couldn't have taken some real, geniune twists and played upon the audiences expectations while also making it relevant to real-world issues of today that would have been quite interesting in my opinion, but alas, I know this movie, with its gore and high body count, probably isn't aimed at the approach I would have taken.
