'Halloween 4' Scribe Back With 'Valet'

For my money, the best Halloween sequel was part 4. The mask was a bit weak, but IMO Alan McElroy's script got the atmosphere and emphasis on suspense better than any of the others, and until H20 was the only one that seemed as if though anyone involved understood anything about what made the original work. So needless to say, I have always been interested in whatever horror projects McElroy worked on since. Now he's got a new thriller according to Variety, called Valet, set for distribution from Alcon and Warner Bros. His script is inspired by true events involving a parking attendant who became obsessed with a female customer and systematically inserted himself into her life. Hopefully, the message of the movie is "Stop being so goddamn lazy and park your car yourself."

Thats funny because I just got donw watchin Halloween 4. If you think the mask in four was bad, think about fives. That thing didn't even fit his face! But yeah, Valet sounds pretty cool.

Either your on drugs or was born last week because H4, as good as it is, was not even close to being better than H2. All the pieces came together in H2 & H20 was alright at best.

H2 is a standard slasher movie that introduced the stupidest concept in the series (Laurie being his sister). The final chase is good and some of the kills are inventive but to me its always felt more like a F13 movie than Halloween.

No more stupid than the Curse of Thorn & that was a good concept until they erased it along with Jaime Strode like it never happend when H20 dropped. C'mon son, you gotta be kiddin'.

PART 4 FUCKING SUCKED – ALONG WITH 5, 6, 7...

...I rather watch 3 than 4 - 'least it was an original concept

H2 sucked. Carpenter even said when he sat down to write the sequel, he realized there wasn't one. All H2 did was regurgitate everything from the first one and up the blood content. Not to mention most of it took place in a hospital, with a drugged up Jamie Lee Curtis. Yeah, I bet that was pretty hard to write.

Well yeah Curse of Thorn was dumb - but it all stemmed from Carpenter's drunken decision to make Laurie the sister. In the original he was terrifying because there was no reason for stalking her. the sequels kept adding more and more nonsense explaining why. Again, that's part of why 4 worked - it kept it simple and emphasized suspense over slashing.

Part 4 did not keep it simple and tried to justify bringing Michael Myers back to kill his niece... which stems from her being the child of Laurie Strode, which is an even dumber concept than Laurie Strode being Myers' sister... as it is predicated on the viewer believing that Strode is Myers' sister. Also, the acting sucked, there was almost no gore and Myers takes out a whole police station and all we get to see are a few bodies. It's poop.

poop indeed. i did lke the ending kinda bringing it all full circle, but that's like saying you found a decent piece of corn in some poop.

JGrayland

There's no gore in the original either, so why are you using that to 'explain' that 4 is, as you eloquently put it, 'poop'. *Sigh*. Just go see the remake, there's lots of blood and no suspense, which is apparently a good thing.

I'm glad you see things my way. And for the record, Halloween was made at a time when the expectations for a slasher flick were a little different (mainly because it was one of the few slashers that had been made at that point) so it's kind of unfair to demand gore in it.

C'mon J, gore does NOT make a movie great! Fun alot of times, but that means little in the overall perspective. Dead Silence was'nt a supergory flick & that's the best classic tale I've seen since Candyman. As CD said about H4, acting sucked, another made up concept of Michael Going after his neice (Laurie's Daughter). Laurie supposedly died in a car crash...blah, blah, blah. That movie dragged too by the way. Both are good, but H4 better...no way.

Another good point by CD, 2 different eras. You gotta understand how slasher flicks were made especially from '81-'88. In H2, you still had all the elements from H1 that shed light on why michael was after Laurie. If you combine H1 & H2 together, you have got 1 long good movie that makes perfect sense. Who cares if Carpenter made it up after the success of the 1st movie. We mind as well say the same about George Lucas with Star Wars. The fact that it worked is the bottom line.

Save your money for the remake. The midi-chlorines made Michael go to the dark side.

H20 was terrible. Part 4 was really good though.
