Five Halloween Clips, Bonus Behind-The-Scenes Footage
Wednesday, August 22, 2007

By: brian
Comments

Damned if I was gonna go to bed without posting these for everyone... If you head on over to BDTV you can see FIVE, count em FIVE brief scenes from Rob Zombie's controversial Halloween remake. In addition to the clips (some of which are re-edited from the final version of the film - please do NOT begin bashing the editing style based on these clips, Dimension gave em to us like that, but that's not how they play out in the film itself), I also put up a brief behind the scenes clip of the scene where Michael smashes the car window to get Laurie. It's not terribly exciting, but if you look REALLY close you'll see a blurry guy standing in the background - that's me! Oh, by the way, (and I've been waiting to say this all week): 8 more days til Halloween, Silver Shamrock!

Pretty cool I must say. Hey, what's the deal with this Joe Grizzley guy? I'm not to keen on his dialouge, but it may just be the character. Any insite on this?

If I'm guessing correctly Joe Grizzly is a truck driver Michael kills on his way back to Haddonfield. In the early mentions of this character in news updates and rumors, he was referred to as a truck driver, and Michael's attire in the scene indicates that it takes place during or shortly after his escape from Smith's Grove. The scene probably takes place at a rest stop, and it's likely that Michael takes Joe's truck. The other possibility is that Grizzly has just delivered supplies or something to Smith's Grove and is using the bathroom there when the escape occurs. These clips rock (especially the scene with Laurie running back to the house!), and it's nice to see so much positive feedback for the recent clips, pics, etc. from this movie. Can't wait for Thursday the 30th (Preview screening passes, baby!!!)!

Wizard of Oz. Wow. The remake train must be a 1000 cars long by now. Again, not trying to sound like a hypocrite, but somewhere along the way, it's gotta stop. I'm still banging my head over "Enter the Dragon". If they start remaking Dirty Harry, then someone will have to shoot me in the head.......slowly. Anyway, back to Halloween. I'm quite surprised at the reaction of the "Michael grabbing Laurie out of the car" scene. I have little problem with the dialogue. To me, it's pretty realistic, you can't script that stuff. I'm sure if I was in that situation, and that happened, I'd probably thrown in a couple of "Fucks"....at least.

Back from checking the footage. Johnny, I don't think you have to worry about spoiling anything. The footage is pretty brief and what you would expect. My only surprise is how closely some of the dialogue mimics the original. One thing I've been chomping at the bit to comment on for a long time is what's up with the sound editor using a harmonizer modulating the original theme a minor 2nd. I'm not going to go crazy about this, but I personally would've rather had them keep the original unalterred. The new theme kind of sounds like a demented nursery mobile that you see in a baby's crib. Again, I haven't seen the movie yet (working on that) so I don't know if they're going to change that or not. I can't rave or kill the footage either way. It is what it is. McDowell's humanizing of the Loomis/Myers relationship makes for an interesting dynamic that was probably one of ROB's chief goals with this "reimagining."

I know we are not suppose to comment back and forth on here but does anyone else notice how much more civil it is here then in the threads? Weird! I watched all the clips and some I enjoyed...others I kind of shook my head at. The Joe Grizzly scene was dumb! Ken looks stupid and his dialog was horrible. I'm glad he dies quickly! The chase scene was awesome. I love the fact that Michael is relentless and doesn't give then time to think. The part where Laurie gets pulled out of the car was good...other the the bogeyman line. The escape was decent. So far it's looking to be good.

Rumor Watch — The Remake of Jaws: According to FilmRot.com, Steven Spielberg recently gave an interview in which he talked about the rumored Jaws remake. "Jaws isn't solidified in gold or anything,” the director said, “and there was plans what seemed like years ago to re-release it with renewed special effects following the success of Jurassic Park.” On whether or not he would like to be involved, Spielberg said, “It's something I wouldn't instantly discount - Hitchcock remade his own film with The Man Who Wasn't There and ended up, in my opinion, making a superior film the second time round.” LMAO!

There is a scene out there where Michael grabs the mask in the attic (for the first time) the music is the original theme without the tainted "tint bang" going on. Now I don't know if it was an edit or not, but it was cool. I like they kept the original score during the Laurie chase scene and it was nice to hear some of the original dialogue. We'll see....

On that note.....I'm going to change the subject a little. Haddon, Laser, et al. I have a question? Try not to smash me for even broaching this subject without listening to the explanation.....As Kiss fans, do you think Unmasked could've been ssooo much better of an album if it had been mixed more in a more metal fashion. Vinnie Poncia really emphasized that thin, tinny guitar sound (I guess they were going w the late 70's proto/streamlined bullsh%t a la The Cars and Foreigner, as well as that disatrous disco phase). Some of the songs are quite good, but lose it with the weak overall sound. If they had put more stock into the classic Ace thick, Les Paul/Marshall sound, I think the album would've been much better. I can think of a few Kiss albums that are far worse than Unmasked. Hot in the Shade, Dynasty, Asylum, and Psycho Circus jump out without a moment's hesitation.....Oh yeah, I forgot about Gene's piece of sh%t musical contribution to the annals (literally) of human history.

If JAWS gets remade, atleast the effects and the shark would most certainly be alot better, but I agree that the acting was top notch, hard to duplicate. How about The Exorcist being remade? Sounds crazy, but probably not far off. SAURON, you forgot "Music from the Elder", and how about Peter Criss's solo record from 78'. KISS without Ace is Shit. Period. Sorry, nothing more to add here about HALLOWEEN. 8 more days to go.

Sauron, I think the Unmasked album was over-polished. Poncia wanted a pop sound and he definately got it. Notice the mix on all the guitars. Just overdone. If Eddie Kramer would've produced that album it would've been a lot better. Bob Ezrin would've probably screwed that one up at the time (Look at "The Elder.") I thought there were a few songs that were good on Unmasked, some were crap. They were just reaching to the pop audience. KISS did a lot of changing to meet the needs of different genres. It worked sometimes and sometimes it didn't. Unmasked was during the phase of overmixing and too much polish. I think it could've been a lot better with a different producer. Poncia was just too pop.

I think everyone should leave P.W. out of this because he's been here a very long time and has always presented a civil, balanced opinion. That's just my take on it.....Haddon, I actually kind of have a spot for 'The Elder' because it has a pretty heavy sound (when they finally get around to it) AND some decent songs. 'The Oath' and 'Escape from the Island' rock much, much more than anything off of Dynasty or even Hot in the Shade. 'I even can stomach 'Mr. Blackwell' and 'Only You.' Obviously Gene was in his follow the leader mode trying desperately to catch the 1981 Dungeons and Dragons, Mythic-Rock starting to emerge at that time. Yes, I know he was always a storyteller thru comics and such but the album doesn't blaze any trails, it merely regurgitates stuff that was done much better by other acts at that time. I am also a HUGE fan of 'Creatures of the Night' and that obviously had no Ace. It definately is, to quote a book on the history of metal, a "dark classic." Another great (in my humble opinion) record is Paul's solo album. It does walk a little on the soft/poser side but there are some great moments on that album and it does manage to consistantly rock when it needs to.....

I decided to give it a chance. But like you said I was always civil and tried to have intelligent conversation as oppossed to saying...McDowell sucks, Zombie sucks, etc. That is childish and as a long time poster, it makes me nuts when others waste some good post with that nonsense. There are probably people on this board that are actually here to gather or may want to portray some sort of opionion but they won't because they are afraid of the way some of you will respond! Grow up! Sauron, the Elder was actually OK, but it got lost in translation. The story was kind of broken (kinda like H6, but better). I liked The Oath, Dark Light (Ace is definately my favorite) and I. I liked some of the mix and some of it I didn't. I liked Creatures, but missed Ace so it took something out of it for me, but I liked some of the songs. The drums were heavy and it had a flavor of it's own! I actually like Paul's solo album also. Cancer here with a "how goes it?" to all in BD's Halloween land. Starting to get pumped about checking this flick out. Glad to see all are sticking to their guns, yet attempting to stay civil. I believe I've said all I can for now on all things Halloween. I'm gonna "log off" from all pics, scenes, and so forth until the "re-imagining" touches down. Don't want to be over-anticipating something I've seen in a clip and miss out on ANYTHING. All I can say for sure is I hope I don't leave the theater with the same numbness I did leaving Resurrection. Looking back, I wasn't even that disappointed. I guess, and I don't thimk I'm alone here, I expected the POS that was Resurrection, and I hate that. I'll be out of the loop all Labor Day weekend, so I won't see the flick when it opens. And, what may be worse, I'll miss out on the smackdown I'm sure will ensue here. I'm sure it's gonna get crazy here, so I'm aiming to see it WED/THUR after openning weekend. Looking forward to seeing what you all think, albeit after the fact.

Yo man! I heard a couple of Vinnie's songs and they weren't too bad because it was studio, but as a KISS member, he WASN'T! I saw Vinnie live twice w/KISS. He wasn't good the first time and the second time he tried the Jimmy Page violin bow guitar solo. My ears almost bled! Now to this Halloween review that P.W. introduced. Not good about the movie, but extremely funny! He described Micheal as "Jason with a better mask." and "not creepy, just gory." I know this is one Dude's opinion, but this is what I was afraid to hear (now to all you guys who think I'm a hater, listen up....) I'm still going and will base my opinion on my own judgement. Here is the last paragraph of the review: "When it’s all said and done, Halloween is just your run of the mill slasher film. Go see it if you enjoy blood, guts and teenage boobies. Skip it if you’re hoping to see some sort of fantastic refreshing look at Michael Myers because you’ll be disappointed with what you see. I think Rob should take a cue from his own film and start wearing a mask whenever he goes out in public so people don’t ask him why he didn’t try and do something different with such an iconic horror character." This should start some talk...... Get R Done!

I read it too but I also read more positive reviews. So I guess it all boils down to seeing it for ourselves. That guy was funny though and brought up some good points. I can't wait till this releases so I can finally form a straight forward opinion.

I wasn't the one who started name calling and all of you don't know nothing about me. I know I'm better than all of you then going on a site trying to find something positive about a horrendeous movie. I have more of a life than most of you to spend hours on here going back and forth on something no one is going to win until August 31.

Hey KayStar...everybody was not talking about you. Ignore it and move on. You're allowed to make your opinion. Like Haddonfreak said just be civil about it. No need for the name calling and threats. Too me this is way better then posting in the actual threads because at least here, you can debate.

Everyone says to me that I should move on and be civil about it. Its like what the hell?!? I didn't start name calling until two specific people did. I didn't start this and I'm not going to sit here and let people say what they want about me.

But it's just 2 people. As long as you say something back...they'll reply. It will not stop unless you or one of them decides to be the better person. When you guys go back and forth it totally screws up any good debate going on because the focus goes from that to arguing. If that's what you want to do then fine but all I am saying is be the better person. They are obliviously getting under your skin. So when they fire back at you...which they probably will do again. They know that it will get you going. In the end it's up to you.

PL, that was funny! I thought Gin Blossoms did a pretty good Christine Sixteen. Anyhow, should there be a remake of the Clockwork Orange? That is another movie where there would be an argument of whether or not it should be retouched or not.

Hell no they shouldn't remake "clockwork",I'm opposed to them even coming close to touching that gem of a movie, likely in the same way ppl feel about "halloween"....

YOU started the name calling. I have not gone down that road yet. All I am saying said is that you can try and be articulate in your post as opposed to simply saying that someone with the acting credentials of Malcolm McDowell sucks. You can't say someting so silly and expect to be taken serious. Think about it logically. It comes off as childish and everyone on here knows it.

Btw...if ppl want a "fresh" look for "clockwork",they can go to the library and read the fuc*ing book, way back in the early 90's,Mr. Burgess finally got it printed w/ the extra chapter he wanted....yes, it ends in a good way,Alex makes the right choice....on his own if you know what i'm saying...

I still think KISS should release a new album. Paul Stanley did it with live to win and had a successful tour to go with it. Gene's solo album As*whole to me sucked. It was just to predictable. Eric Singer has a solo band ESP. He just released a dvd of his concert footage. Tommy Thayer isn't doing much of anything musically besides working on Kissology. By the way Kissology Vol.2 is great and worth the price. Paul Stanley stated that the reason they don't do a new album is that they might regret it later and he refered to bands as the Rolling Stones, The Who and others that tried to carry on with new stuff and were dissapointed because of it later. I think Paul Stanley still is a talented frontman and vocalist. Tommy Thayer is the closest we are gonna get to Ace but Tommy is still a good guitar player. When it comes to Vinne Vincent I believe his success was only the brief time he was a Kiss member. His solo stuff sucked in my view and at concert he played as well as Ray Charles would if you gave him a guitar. A new Kiss album is probably never gonna happen but Never say Never!

I didn't start the name calling GoliathSlasher started with me. Anyways Malcolm McDowell has done good in his past films but in this one his acting is horrible in my opinion. I mean its not all his fault, its mainly the writing. It sounds so ridiculous. Anyways Scout Taylor-Compton she sounds like a baby whenever she opens her mouth. Rob Zombie tried to give a little something extra to the movie and it just didn't work.

I SAW HALLOWEEN LAST NIGHT! it was everything i hoped it would be, so badass and the kills were very violent, i felt really bad for danielle harris when she dies.. thats all im saying.. i loved it but i dont think critics are going to be too fond.
