According to Variety, Len Wiseman, director of both Underworld films and this summer's smash Live Free Or Die Hard, is in final negotiations to take over the reins of the Gerard Butler-starring remake of John Carpenter's classic Escape From New York. In addition, Carpenter himself will executive produce, much like he did for The Fog remake from 2005. At this rate, with his entire filmography seemingly getting remade almost in sequence (there's a Thing redux in the works as well), someone better whip up a Christine script pronto. Len Wiseman ("Live Free or Die Hard") has decided to "Escape From New York" and is set to helm the New Line remake to be produced by Neal Moritz and star Gerard Butler.

Wiseman's in final negotiations with the mini-major, which won bidding in March for a package that included Butler following the boffo launch of "300."

"Black Hawk Down" scribe Ken Nolan is penning the script. Exec producers include Original's Ori Marmur; Ron Halpern and Frederic Sichler of Canal Plus, which held the remake rights; and John Carpenter, who directed the original 1981 pic.

tymishu78 12:26am, August 15, 2007 Doesn't this seem like the scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back where they are filming Good Will Hunting 2 - Hunting Season, where Gus Van Sant is sitting back counting his money? LMAO! I think John is doing the same. I only hope that they do his films justice. So far we are 1 - 1! The Fog sucked but I actually enjoyed Assault on Precinct 13. Hopefully Halloween breaks the tie for the good.
