According to a small blurb in an article on Variety.com, Platinum Dunes is aiming to get their remake of Friday the 13th in theaters by 2009. I personally think this films life depends on how well Rob Zombie's Halloween does at the end of the month, so fingers crossed. No word on whether Jonathan Liebesman is still attached to the project, but we've heard that they're not using Mark Wheaton's story. Watch for the return of Jason Voorhees and his mother in 2009!
There will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth over this, but let me be the first to say... THANK YOU, GOD! FRIDAY THE 13TH is one of my favorite films of all time, and has probably had more impact on my life than just about any other movie except JAWS & the Godzilla films. Still, when faced with a choice between a remake and no F13 movie at all, I'll take the remake any day! It's been too long since Jason stalked the silver screen!
Like Halloween, this story has alot of potenial with a good prequel idea. What Jason was like as a boy before he drowned, the relationship with his mother. Could be good with the right script.
i dont see how a prequel would be all that interesting with jason. i love the f13 series. but i dont see how this would be interesting. even if they do what rob zombie is doing with halloween, i dont think it would be nearly as interesting. either way, i love f13 and ill go see it.
SAW RUIZ. What backstory do we know about Jason ? Here's what we know, let me know if I'm missing something. Jason's mother worked at the camp where he was attending when he drowned in the lake when the counselors were not paying attention. That's it. They spent maybe 2 minutes of film discussing what happened to him in all 10, 11, however many sequels there are. We know nothing else about his childhood. Lots of room to expand on the story.
Put it this way, All F13 movies are shit and always will be! No story, no dialog, and bad acting. I don't really care if this movie gets made or not. Every movie, Tennagers going camping, camping to place where all the murders took place. Jason still lurking around the woods and lake. Now this is one series that should be put to rest finally.
I agree.. I'm not a huge fan of remakes or even the idea of them, but there really is nowhere else for the franchise to go. So it's either a remake/reboot or let it die. And I love Jason, so I'd like to see a remake done well.
First of all, who said anything about a prequel? The word used was "remake". The only thing more puzzling to me than the fanboy aversion to remakes is how hard it is for some people to let go of the continuity of the earlier films. A remake means starting over from scratch, not adding new backstory to the existing films in the series. Even Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, which includes the events of Michael's return to Haddonfield after escaping Smith's Grove, is set at in a different year than Carpenter's original. It may show more backstory, but it is in no way a prequel to the original HALLOWEEN, and this will likely not be a prequel to F13. And mike1982, if you're going to make broad, bashing statements about the F13 films, two things... First, see more of them so you actually know what you're talking about. You've described the plotlines of roughly three of the eleven F13/Jason movies. Whether the movies are "shit" or not is a matter of opinion. But blowhard opinions from people with no practical knowledge of what they are discussing are always shit, without fail. Second, why post to this topic in the first place if you really don't care?
I really need to write that script for a Friday movie that I have been meaning to do for years:)
Im all for a reboot. I love this series in all its shitty glory:)
The more Jason the better!
Wow...I guess if "halloween" goes tits up at the box office, that will green light All the classics getting re-made..."friday" just might be cool though,as long as its just the 1st one,we dont need a remake the other ones, just the 1st movie may help the others stand a bit taller ya know?
like it or not horror remakes are always going to be there. every thing has been done in the genra.. its hard to come up with an original idea for a horror flick these days.. im all for this movie being made, i would be super pumped for a nightmare on elm street prequel.. freddy when he was the sprinwood slasher before the parents burned his ass! that would be the shit! I think a breath of fresh air is exactly what these franchizes need! I for one would rather see any remake, than another saw piece of shit! they need to stop making saw.. they're all the same, and they all suck ass!!
JKROUSCOP. If your referring to my use of the word PREQUEL, it was simply MY opinion of what I think might be a good idea with the right script. REMAKE,PREQUEL,RE-IMAGINING, WHATEVER!
And your "REMAKE" definition about starting from scratch, no new backstory ??? WOW. Are you serious ? Where do I start, which films would you like me to name that have been remade with additional new story? HILLS, TEXAS CHAINSAW, to name a couple. Go watch the originals then tell me they did not ADD new elements to the remakes. I'm not hear to argue , I'm simply stating MY opinion. You don't have to agree, and that's fine, just understand what my point is
yes, i too need my Jason fix. and i don't need him sharing screen time with an JOHNNY COME LATELY losers like freddy anymore! i hope they do add a backstory to how Jason grew up, and i hope they show Jason's mother killing campers BEFORE he drowns. cuz you all know she did and was crazy before then.
