SpookyDan just sent us in some more coverage from this year's San Diego Comic Con, which featured writer-director Tim Sullivan talking about 2002 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillies and it's star, Robert Englund, talking about the film and the potential return of Freddy Krueger to the big screen. Read on for the skinny.

Tim Sullivan speaks out on 2002 Maniacs/Robert Englund discusses the next chapter for Freddy and the future of both franchises!
By SpookyDan

Friday the San Diego Comic Con started off big with a 2002 Maniacs panel hosted by writer-director Tim Sullivan, actor Robert Englund, co-writer Chris Kobin and actress Amy Baniecki. The group discussed the upcoming ventures for the Maniacs franchise. Towards the end of 2007 Englund’s busy schedule will free up and the gang will be available to begin the filming of the long awaited sequel, 2002 Maniacs: The Beverly Hellbillys. Englund spoke on the current state of horror, “A nice corner has turned for independent horror with all the great films and new filmmakers emerging Like Adam Green's "Hatchet", Scott Glosserman's "Behind The Mask", Joe Knautz's "Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer" and many other indie horror films that I have been in.:”

A very strange Comic Con moment then took place, possibly the strangest one that I have ever witnessed... Johnny Legend, one of the films Minstrels, showed up with his guitar and did a sing along to the song he wrote for the original and latest Maniacs film “The South Will Rise Again." Now just imagine a room full of Comic Con attendees shouting and singing along a rousing “YEEE-HAWWW” with the song. Just plain weird!

Coming up next for Sullivan is his film “Brothers of The Blood”. He was pretty cryptic about this one, but did scoop us that it is an epic vampire story that will be starring Thomas Deckard of the new “Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “Heroes” TV shows. Set to be filmed in 2008.

Then of course the question that was asked about four times from a variety of audience members,”Will there be another Freddy film?” On this Englund says, “Jeff Katz was the main man sheparding the franchise, he has recently moved studios and that may bridge a gap that was holding any sequels up.” When asked about another Freddy vs Jason he said “I know there have been discussions with John Carpenter about a Freddy and Jason film, so all I can only assume is that MAYBE they are working on a script with Michael Meyers.”

Lastly both Sullivan and Englund confirmed that they have each been approached to possibly be involved with the next season of Masters of Horror, but wouldn’t say anything more on the subject.

Watch for more on 2002 Maniacs: Beverly Hellbillies soon.

Blah, Blah, Blah. I think Robert is afraid of people forgetting him, so he comes out every six months and says "Yeah, we're gonna do another Freddy movie." Quit talking and start with some action man!
