SDCC 07: Live From the Warner Bros. Panel, Anything Cool?

Inside you'll find out quick l,ive report from the Warner Bros. panel, which is taking place as I write this at the San Diego Comic Con. Horror films featured were One Missed Call, Whiteout and The Invasion. Read on for the skinny and watch for exclusive interviews later this weekend.

WARNER BROS. PANEL NOTES:

Nicole Kidman couldn't make it to promote THE INVASION as she was still in Australia, but she filmed an intro to the trailer, which featured out first looks at humans transforming into the aliens. After saying "uhm" about 6,000 times, Kidman called INVASION "an interesting and disturbing twist in the original" The clipped looked pretty cool, so hopefully we'll have something cool to check out in theaters this August 17.

The Invasion tells the story of a mysterious epidemic that alters the behavior of human beings. When a Washington D.C. psychiatrist (Nicole Kidman) discovers the epidemic’s origins are extraterrestrial, she must fight to protect her son, who may hold the key to stopping the escalating invasion.

Then they showed a clip from ONE MISSED CALL, which looked really interesting. It looked like the original only with a higher budget. The ghosts were extremely creepy, as they had giant black holes where their eyes were. There were crazy images flashing across the screen like a ghost version of Jesus and people lynching themselves. The tagline was awesome "What will it sound like when you die?" Stars Ed Burns and Shannyn Sossamon were in attendance and were asked the most moronic questions ever, to which the fans were rewarded with free iPhones. I hate them.

In “One Missed Call,” a chain of people receive terrifying cell phone messages of their own final fatal moments. Though the messages can be deleted, their number is up. Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) is traumatized when she witnesses the gruesome deaths of two friends just days apart. Even more disturbing, she knows that both of them had received chilling cell phone messages—actual recordings of their own horrifying last moments. Impossibly, the calls were received days before they died, but each death occurred precisely when and how the messages foretold. The police think Beth is delusional—except for Detective Jack Andrews (Edward Burns) whose own sister was killed in a freak accident that bears a strange similarity to the deaths of Beth’s friends. Together, Jack and Beth work feverishly to unravel the mystery behind the ominous calls. But even as they get closer to the truth, Beth’s cell phone begins to ring with an eerie tune, and the readout says One Missed Call…

Lastly we got our first look at WHITEOUT, which features the first ever murder in Antarctica. The clip featured Kate Beckinsale in snow, then more snow, then more snow. Then we see a dead body, a killer's leg and get some quick dialogue explaining the plot. It looks like it has potential.

The ticking-clock “Whiteout” follows U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko as she uncovers the first murder ever in the Antarctic just as the sun is about to set for six months. She must catch the killer before he leaves the ice or be stuck there with him in the dark for six months.
