The Weinstein Company and Genius Products announced today that the two films that made up the classically under-rated Grindhouse (review) release will hit DVD on two separate, extended and unrated DVDs, according to IGN. Read on for details on "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror".

Quentin Tarantino's serial-killer homage to the old school car chase film, Death Proof will hit shelves with over 30 minutes of additional, never-before-seen footage including the maddening "missing reel" (containing the excised lapdance sequence) as well as a black and white segment in the film's second act. The DVD will hit on September 18, 2007 for a price of $29.95. Features will include:

-Finding Quentin's Gals
-The Guys of Death Proof
-Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike
-Introducing Zoe Bell
-Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke
-Double Dare trailer
-International Poster Gallery

Meanwhile, the Robert Rodriguez zombie entry, Planet Terror, will attack with more footage, deleted scenes, a full commentary and the infamous missing reel. That disc will drop on October 16, 2007 for a price of $29.95 and its features will include:

-Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez
-International trailer
-Deleted Scenes
-Cooking School
-10-Minute Film School
-The Stunts
-The Make-up and Effects
-The Badass Babes
-The Renegade Guys
-The Costumes
-The Production Design

first, thanks very much for posting this info. ive been scrounging for anything. [begin rant] why cant they even do a limited run of it as it was meant to be seen? (with missing reels optional and all extras on a second disk) what a bunch of bull. cut the movie apart and chastize the film-makers because of the studio's poor planning and immediate jumping-of-ship. they didnt even give this a chance to gain some word-of-mouth momentum, which it would have (i can recall many friends being pissed when they couldnt see it only 2 weeks later).

So Death Proof has no Audio Commentary? What the hell?

Will the extra material for both films be on the actual movie or just extras?

This film was in no way "underrated". In fact every horror site, this one included, (Except Arrow's site funny enough.) Has hyped this film and hyped this film, and even after it came out, to an awful run at the boxoffice, and lukewarm fan response, (Key word: Fan. Not critical.) you guys are still hyping this film. The one thing I am happy for is that it's being split into two dvd's that way Rodriguez's film will outsell Tarantino's egocentric, and let's face it, Uma-obsessive, borderline creepy Thurman stalker-ish, if-I-can't-have-her-I'll-take-her-stunt-double, 30 minutes too long crapfest.... I'll buy Planet Terror hoping that Eli Roth's Thanksgiving trailer will be included with that film. I will not however subject myself to Death Proof ever again for as long as I live.

That's cool, but what about the faux movie trailers?

Come on, you guys. Do any of you honestly believe there is not going to be a special edition later on with the theatrical version of the whole movie? And do you honestly think there was ever the plan to NOT start off with separate releases of both movies? Come on. ESPECIALLY with Tarantino recutting it into a longer movie for Cannes? Of course there are going to be multiple releases. Do you guys live in the year 2007 or do you live in the year 1997, before double-dips were commonplace? Heads out of asses please, folks...

I was afraid of this. That's the plan isn't it? They'll release it as 2 separate movies and then they'll release it as the full Grindhouse movie in the months to come. Who's really paying for this? Us fans or the fools who didn't see this movie?

what the hell this is just the greedy ass producers just trying to make a buck. It was amazing as one film not two! Now the fans are gettting the shaft. thanks weinstien way to rip us off. This is just spitting in the fans face. I loved Grindhouse, it was released as a double feature and so why cant it happen now? greedy pricks have no respect for the film. I'll buy them I'm a fan but it is just showing what the producers see the film as. Oh well great film but are the fake trailers going to be on it? i just hope they dont fuck us over like what happened with the Sin City DVD where there was a bare bones version then 3 months later a fully loaded DVD shows up. Like the movie didnt make enoght money. please you greedy fuck mook producers relkease this as one film, a 4 disc DVD would be nice I was looking forward to this film for a very long time and if your gonna ripe of the fans give us something worth while. Well thats my rant on the DVD relaese.
