Over on IMDBPro it lists the sequel to Neil Marshall's astounding horror pic, The Descent, will be titled The De2cent, because that makes a whole lot of sense. No word on if this Se7en-esque title will stick, but Christian Colson is said to be returning as producer. The Descent was Neil Marshall¹s hotly anticipated follow up to his 2002 hit Dog Soldiers and told the story of an all female caving expedition that goes terrifyingly wrong. Set in a cave system deep in the Appalachian Mountains.
I actually really dig that title. At least the 2 looks like an S. And I agree about this movie, it was incredible. It was the first horror movie I was actually counting down the days until it was on DVD. I don't know how they will do this, but if it can be as good as the last one, this may be one of my most anticipated horror movies in years, behind Silent Hill 2.
unless it's from the same makers, it will most likely suck. but who knows.
the first one was the first horror movie in a long time that was actually scary!
The first movie sucked, and the title for the second one is trying to be like "se7en" or just try and appeal to the idiots online that spell shit wrong on purpose. Either way.. I'll pass.
the descent sucked - what a trash film, so over hyped by many horror sites, including this one - it was a yawn fest, god, do we really need another one ? I sure as hell won't watch it.
Welp, I for one will be seeing it, as I really enjoyed the first. I can think of way more horror movies you idiots on here loved that was way worse off than The Descent. But opinions are like assholes, which there are many on here, you have to act like one to make it seem like someone is cool and shit. Calm down guys, if you don't like a movie, move on, just cause you think it sucked, doesn't mean everyone did...so chill out:-)~
There are two kinds of horror fans... Those that are there for the guts. And those that are there for the brains. The Descent was original, smart, (key word.) horror entertainment. Some people won't appreciate a good story no matter what you do with it. They need immediate stimuli, sort of like pitbull puppies, they need something their eyes can follow at a speed comfortable for their internal information processing centers. A few here have trumpeted their affiliation with this group. My opinion being that I don't think we need a sequel. The Thing didn't need a sequel. But if it must be done. Marshall better be handling the film, or I can't say I'll be excited... The name's a bit wonky. That spelling has pretty much nothing to do with the content of the Descent mythology. If anything a better title might be Ascent, meaning the blind cave mutants are coming "up" to our world... Or something better.
How could they do a sequel, in your mind. I'm trying to think of some way to make a good, compelling sequel without it being basically a repeat of the first film. The idea of the creatures coming up to our world doesn't exactly click with me completely. I mean they could play on a point made in the original with them coming up to hunt animals, like that huge moose. You could have a group of outdoor people taking a hike, ending up there and having to spend the night, but being attacked and dragged down to the caves.
The first one was really emotional, and I felt bad for the people that died, something I haven't felt in a horror movie ever. They need to make sure to keep the emotions in and don't fuck it up. Hills Have Eyes/Hills Have Eyes 2 is a prime example of what not to do.
While The Hills Have Eyes 2 is a prime example of what not to do, it can also be said that 28 Weeks Later is a good example of what a movie can accomplish within the same "world" sans director and original cast. That's why I refuse to entertain the idea that this sequel will be a flop..or a success. You really just won't know until it comes out and you, or reviewers you trust, see it!
Good call on 28 Weeks Later. Though I still think that film was the exception rather than the rule. Admire your optimism.
