naw man, you guys are looking at it the whole wrong way. he's trying to make an artistic horror movie vision of spawn, kind of like what normal people and his victims would see him as since he's always in the shadows lurking, watching. but, then when you wanna know who the person behind those shadows really is, you go back to the comics and start from the beginning and follow that whole journey, and discover it goes beyond just "Spawn" and it's a curse that's lasted for centuries and there's been many hellspawns, and that opens it up to the whole spawn universe. i think it's an awesome way to approach the movie scene, cause it's an original idea, and has potential of really kicking some major ass and being violent, brooding, gritty, and sick... just like how spawn was created and how he should've been portrayed on film in the first place! i thought the original spawn film sucked compared to what he is in the comics, and didn't do spawn or todd mcfarlane any justice at all. but, it's good he's looking back at it that it was a victim of it's time, and sort of like a test run... just like, "what happened with the original Fantastic Four movie" as it was said in the BD post. seriously guys, i think this is an awesomely innovative way of thinking for todd to proceed with the spawn films... and you guys should be excited too for the possibilities! have an open mind about it...
